'The State As Murderers' - Recorded for 'No Justice, No Peace: Families of Police Brutality Victims Speak Out'Part of the Socialism 2012 Conference (http://www.socialismconference.org/)Over the past year we've witnessed a surge police and vigilante violence against African Americans in the United States. From New York to Oakland, the criminalization of African American youth by policies like the NYPD's "stop-and-frisk" have created a climate where Black people are murdered by police departments with impunity. Yet, communities are standing up to police brutality; in Chicago, New York, Oakland and beyond, activists and family members are challenging a system where every police shooting is "justified," and the police terrorize communities without consequence. This event brings together families who are standing up to police brutality and the New Jim Crow across the country.
