Teddy Story Chapter Two, Lucas's
0:10
first slide. Hello?
0:14
Have you ever been to a theme park?
0:17
With the Crazy noise and the distant screams
0:19
and bells and whistles and loud bangs
0:21
and cloud like sticks of sugar
0:24
filled candy floss, mmmm
0:27
candy floss. Oh, the smells of popcorn
0:29
and food and metal and more food! Mmmmmm food
0:34
- What’s your favorite food?
0:37
You don't have to say. You can think of if you like. OOH!
0:42
God choice! Did you know what I love?
0:45
Yes I. Love. Chocolate. Mmmm chocolate! In
0:48
the next chapter after this one, we go to a house
0:50
made entirely. That means
0:52
completely and utterly
0:55
aaall of it made entirely of chocolate.
0:59
I might eat it before I'd tell it
1:01
to you. Not
1:03
sure it's possible to eat an actual bit of story.
1:05
Not even with my crazy imagination.
1:08
But. I can try! Ooohhh chocolate!
1:12
Anyway, where was I? Oh yes. Have
1:15
you ever been to a theme park or seen
1:17
one in a film or on tele or with a really
1:20
very exciting high and twisting rollercoaster
1:22
and thought, I want to go on
1:25
that! It looks scary, but truly fun
1:28
and amazing and you can hear
1:30
people screaming and happiness and actual
1:33
terror, which means they are also very,
1:35
very scared. And how
1:39
high and how fast
1:41
it goes - If you watch it, it will
1:43
almost certainly make your tummy
1:46
tickle if you ride it. Can you
1:49
tickle your tummy? Tickle, tickle, tickle.
1:52
Marvellous. Well, that
1:55
tickly giggly feeling is exactly
1:57
how Lucas felt when he
1:59
‘plinked’ out the other side of
2:02
the portal. ‘Plink’. Do you remember what happened in
2:04
the last chapter? Lucas jumped on his bed
2:06
three times and with the full jump
2:09
at 12:04 followed his fluffy teddy
2:11
through a portal, a magical door
2:13
to another place in space
2:16
and time. It took minus three seconds to him
2:18
to come out and through the portal
2:20
opening which snapped shut
2:23
tight behind him. If you had a telly in the 1980’s
2:25
and switched it off, it would look like that
2:28
behind him. Black sparkly
2:30
oval to a tiny circle of bright
2:32
light... To nothing. Zzsssccczzzhhhmmm Yes!
2:35
And it was minus three seconds since he jumped through.
2:37
So technically, which means according
2:39
to the facts, he came out of
2:42
it before he went in.
2:44
How Fun! So he came through saying,
2:47
wait for me, landed
2:50
on his feet and found he was repeating the
2:53
last few words and actions he had said and done at the end
2:55
of the last chapter, but in slow motion
2:58
as if he was wading and speaking through
3:00
mud, if that makes any sense
3:03
- can you remember what they were? The
3:05
words he said? See, Lucas
3:07
found himself in his own thoughts, but also unable
3:09
to change what he was physically doing and saying
3:11
out loud - almost as if he was
3:13
moving now through very thick custard,
3:17
mmmm custard. It was the strangest of feelings
3:20
Indeed.
3:20
He found himself jumping ridiculously
3:23
slowly on the spot:
3:26
once, twice, three times the sound of
3:28
it all exaggerated too
3:30
like a - a
3:34
cartoon sound effect - boiyoiyoiyoinggg - and could see that when
3:37
he finally leapt forward, he would find himself
3:39
at the very tippy top
3:41
of the most exciting
3:43
looking yellow bottomed silver
3:46
sided mirror slide he had
3:49
ever, ever seen.
3:49
He looked up at some words in bright, glowing
3:52
light bulbs on a fancy red sign
3:54
right above his head. It read ‘Slide
3:57
of happiness to adventure’ with
4:00
white light bulbs flashing around
4:02
the edges. He had a little bit of
4:04
a bout of deja-vous,
4:07
which means feeling like you have done or said
4:09
something before, if that makes any sense at
4:11
all. Have you ever had that feeling? Well,
4:14
it's called Deja Vu, which means feeling
4:16
like you've done or said something
4:19
before. Have I already.... Said
4:21
that? I think. I think I have.
4:24
Back to Lucas who by now
4:27
had jumped once up and down.
4:29
‘Why not’ bouncing once ‘It won’t hurt will it?
4:31
He said again, bounced twice, thrice,
4:34
which means three times. He took a
4:36
deep breath and loudly whispered,
4:40
‘Wait for me, Teddyyyyyyy’, as he launched across the
4:42
entrance to the slide, and
4:44
under the fancy, flashy
4:47
red sign, and landed
4:49
feet first, bottom second on a worn
4:52
hessian sack, those rough feeling sacks like you get
4:55
on those helter skelters at fairgrounds. He deftly fell
4:58
on his bottom. His hands
5:00
automatically finding two velvet feeling
5:03
cord handles - velvet being a lovely soft feeling material,
5:06
see if you can find some, and feel it when you're out with
5:08
someone fun, and you'll see what I mean about how lovely it feels.
5:10
And...the sack... The sack. Started to move gently
5:12
downwards, down the slide -
5:14
slowly at first, and then
5:17
vwwwhhnmmmmm seem to jerk to life, propelling
5:19
him so fast down this
5:22
wonderous slide. So whizzy woo fast,
5:24
that his hair stuck up like a
5:26
mad scientist! He really needed a haircut,
5:29
he thought to himself, as he saw his reflection in
5:31
the sides of the slide, as
5:34
he whizzed down. As soon as the sack really started
5:36
to move, a further bit of red
5:38
velvet material appeared out of the bottom of the sack,
5:41
and seem to roll upwards towards him
5:43
like a gentle sea wave and tuck
5:46
him in gently with care. With the speed his
5:48
hands tightly held the two velvet rope handles at the side
5:52
of the Mat and
5:54
whoooosssszzzhhh. He began the
5:57
most exhilarating, which means truly
5:59
most exciting indeed ever, ever,
6:01
ever ride on this crazy
6:03
fun slide. He first went downwards,
6:05
and then upwards, and then spun
6:08
backwards and upside down and roundabout. There were spirals and strange
6:11
bumping stairs of all angles,
6:13
this way and that,
6:16
and all Lucas could do was shout ‘Woohooo thiisss isss awesommmme’ and
6:21
live completely in the moment,
6:23
enjoying himself. Have you ever done that?
6:26
Just enjoy that actual time and that
6:28
actual place and that
6:31
moment - try and do it more because
6:34
good times they pass so quickly, perhaps
6:36
like the first time listening
6:38
to this story. Haha
6:40
I can but hope! Lucas started to wonder if
6:42
this brilliant, brilliant, super duper ride
6:45
would ever stop. Before him stood
6:47
two loop the loops and in the distance he saw a boy
6:49
that looked like
6:52
him in dinosaur pajamas, scream ‘Woohoo’
6:54
off to his left and disappeared downwards at
6:56
the same time as another boy who
6:59
also looked like him, but even older next
7:01
to what looked like his
7:04
actual teddy having a deep conversation that went
7:08
something along the lines of
7:11
‘But if the toy soldiers take the
7:14
giant’s money from the castle, then - then what would the three bears use to
7:16
melt down to make beautiful golden gates!?’ This didn't make any sense - any sense at all. And then....he felt a gentle
7:19
furry tap on the shoulder,
7:25
Oh dear! Gasp! Went Lucas. ‘How old are you now?’ Asked his teddy, or a version of
7:27
his Teddy from somewhen, speeding
7:30
and sliding along backwards, directly
7:33
above Lucas, actually upside down
7:35
and looking very excited... As another
7:37
teddy whizzed across and through
7:41
them both shouting ‘Hellooo Lucas! If this is
7:45
your first time, Hold on tight!’ Lucas was
7:47
so disoriented now, which means
7:49
he was all very confused as to what was up and what was down
7:51
and what was real and what had happened
7:54
and would happen, that he lost his grip on one of the rope handles
7:56
of the sack, as the slide bank steeply
7:59
to the right, and the force of the speed he was going
8:01
meant he couldn't pull his hand back down to the handle and
8:03
grip it. And this all happened just at the
8:05
moment he started to ascend. That
8:08
means go up! A very
8:10
steep incline, which also means something
8:12
going sharply upwards like... Up a hill or a loop the loop! ‘Teddyyyyyy!’
8:16
He shouted, ‘Teddy
8:29
I’ve lost, I’ve lost my grip on the handles - and I - I can’t hold on and
8:32
I’m about to go up a very steep incline like a hill or a loop the loop or something and I’m going to fall
8:34
ouuuuuut’ he shouted quite desperately, which meant afraid
8:36
and quite scared kind of way. He looked
8:38
up and Teddy had gone,
8:40
and Lucas continued to gently panic
8:43
and quickly ascend. You remember, that means
8:45
go up, yes?
8:47
In the first of the loop the
8:49
loops...for yes. Now,
8:52
as he rose up the first
8:54
loop, the loop.....force at at
8:56
least 30 miles per hour....Lucas
8:59
could see there was not only
9:04
one but
9:07
five huge, massive loop the loops in
9:10
a row ...GASP -
9:13
how exciting! How scary! How exhilarating -which means - as I'm sure you remember, truly very supremely, amazingly exciting!
9:15
‘Teddyyyyyy!’ He shouted, and looked
9:17
about trying to bring his flailing arm back
9:19
down to hold the sack handle, but,
9:21
he was going so fast, it was so hard to
9:24
do anything! As he looked to his left, he swore he
9:26
saw his big sister, Maisie in the
9:28
distance, squealing with happiness, sliding down into
9:31
a fuzzy looking spongy tunnel
9:33
really, really fast. He squinted his eyes,
9:35
and she disappeared veering sharply off
9:37
to the right and into the fuzzy looking spongy tunnel
9:40
with a ‘WOOHOO!’ And then from nowhere, Maisie and
9:43
Teddy appeared right next to Lucas,
9:45
on the widest part of the widest part
9:47
of the widest part of the slide, which
9:49
was wider than you being
9:52
your widest 10 times - go
9:54
on! Stretch your arms out and imagine
9:57
10 of those widths. Mmhmm! That was
9:59
how wide this widest of
10:01
wide parts was. They all squealed with excitement
10:04
together as the three then separated
10:06
into three separate loop the loops and got
10:09
to the very tippy top
10:11
of peaks, which means point where
10:13
it's at It's highest - and Maisie Shouted, ‘On your way down use gravity to help you findnyour hsnfle again
10:15
First
10:19
Timer - don’t worry - nothing bad can happen In here.
10:21
It's all about forces’
10:23
and with that she disappeared directly upwards
10:26
with her Teddy Tucked In and nestled into
10:28
her hessian sack, which was lined
10:30
with lovely deep purple velvet
10:33
blankets, and embroidered in gold with the
10:36
words ‘Queen Maisie, Minister of fun!’
10:40
Well, said Lucas, ‘All about
10:43
forces? What does that mean?’ Just as his head was
10:45
forced backwards with the
10:48
speed, fffsheewww! Lucas thought about what Maisie had said
10:50
and wasn't sure what else to do. Then saw another
10:52
version of teddy waving at him just below who shouted, ‘Just relax Lucas, enjoy the ride! Gravity does its thing!’
10:55
And
10:59
it did. Gravity is hard to explain
11:01
and a...real Scientist could explain it properly, but
11:04
essentially - which means... Listen carefully and I'll
11:06
try and give you the important need to know stuff
11:08
- it’s the force we know of that
11:11
helps us - and things -
11:13
stick to our planet we live on.
11:15
Without gravity we might well just all
11:18
ping off into space... And lovely as that might be for
11:20
a few minutes. I'd rather think we
11:23
would get very cold and
11:26
miss things like eeeww, like lying on a warm beach with
11:29
a nice cold drink orrrr Having Ball Games in the
11:31
park with friends or snuggling in
11:33
bed with our Teddy’s and maybe a hot
11:35
water bottle under our
11:37
warm duvet. Ohhhh you should
11:40
be asleep right now, Lucas suddenly thought
11:42
and instead he was having the ride of
11:45
his life, on this
11:48
humongous -
11:50
which means massive, huge, gigantic,
11:54
amazing slide! What a lucky sausage! Mmm sausage!
11:55
So with no fear of having heard several
11:57
Teddy's telling him and his big sis say things
12:00
were going to be okay
12:03
because ‘gravity’, he relaxed and enjoyed the ‘whooshh’ feeling on his ears.
12:04
On the way down on this loop the loop, the
12:07
forces and the angle of the slide made all of
12:09
Lucas's weight behave differently and from a flailing
12:11
arms stuck up and behind him and
12:14
almost a sense of flying
12:16
and weightlessness at the top of the loop the loop, he
12:18
went to a heavy speeding projectile
12:22
- which means very fast perhaps even dangerous moving
12:24
object - and on the way
12:26
down or whooshing and neeeeoowwwinggg and well
12:30
going super, super, super, amazingly excitingly
12:33
fast. The forces at work finally
12:35
made everything including his arm heavier,
12:38
and it was now pushed downwards. He shifted
12:40
further forward into the sack lining, his feet
12:42
pushing against the downward facing edge of it.
12:44
He took his chance to grab the soft velvet rope
12:46
handle with his left hand. Remember how
12:48
to find your lefthand?
12:51
And whooshed along the bottom curve on the first loop and back
12:53
up to the second. Lucas had never felt so
12:56
exhilarated, which means very, very excited and
12:59
petrified too - which means
13:01
very, very scared - at the
13:03
same time in his life. Only a
13:06
few minutes ago, he'd been in bed asleep in the
13:08
hot July morning, in his bedroom, in his
13:10
Nice House listening to his dad snoring, and
13:12
now here he was ...on a super
13:14
fast, amazing, fun slide ride, seeing
13:17
all sorts of strange things, not knowing
13:19
when, how or even if the ride
13:22
ever stopped. For all he knew he would be on it
13:25
forever. Although he didn't see
13:27
any grownups on the side.
13:30
Maybe their bottoms were too big for the thin bits,
13:33
huh!? One of which was coming up,
13:37
‘Whhhheeeooooooofffff’ said Lucas as he looped he loop for
13:39
the second time, but crushed into the back of an
13:42
older looking
13:44
Maisie. ‘Do you mind?!’ She shouted. ‘There is
13:46
such thing as slide
13:51
etiquette, You
13:53
know!’
13:54
‘Ittsss My first time sisssss!’ Lucas managed, still shocked to
13:56
see her here. ‘Oh well. Have you not read your manual?’
14:01
Manuel? No, what’s a Manuel - isn’t he from Fawlty Towers?
14:01
Did your Teddy not brief you? ‘No, there wasn’t time! What and where’s the manual?’ Well whereas the book explaining how to use something, just ask for it. You can ask for anything, but remember your manager gets cross. Yes. The sacral riding and she has the name and I'm in Hacienda and four, five, six. It looks like you're going to say anything you want to work. What happens if I forget? Of course you might see on the iphone, cleans my license chocolate cake with sweets or wouldn't. It's not too much. Probably instantly. The top layer of in Sacramento was in Rosa from horizontal to vertical. That means from lying down, flat to standing up and the kind faith formed in the folds of Hacienda. Beautiful soft, warm voice said to me in the face, smile then disappeared and the Hesi and surface changed with a blue sparkly flash into a steel silver vertical surface and a little door shutter went up revealing summer chocolate cake on a red and white patterned plate with sweets on top and a folded Napkin in a triangle next to it.
15:39
Exclaimed Lucas, so I can order anything.
15:42
You just remember your manners. Thank
15:44
you Deanna. Four, five, six at Msi.
15:47
And with that she wisdom police
15:49
go from the Yummy, moist chocolate
15:51
cake. Chocolate.
15:55
This podcast is making me hungry.
15:58
Lucas, stop for a second. He was a little bit hungry
16:01
too, and he thought it wouldn't hurt to at least
16:03
try to ask for something yummy. I'm
16:07
49, married, I have
16:10
some cookies.
16:12
Please, please, please,
16:16
please. Very much. He
16:19
had it just to make sure he was being polite enough
16:21
and yes, as he had seen macy's
16:24
hacinsack top layer peel back from horizontal
16:26
to vertical position his dead
16:28
now too, revealing it kind man's
16:31
face in the wrinkles of the face
16:33
form to smile and in a very deep, warm,
16:36
velvety voice said
16:42
Lupus, like eating
16:45
them now so it doesn't
16:48
melt or no,
16:51
that's a good tip and
16:53
he watched as the face disappeared in
16:55
its place, melted into a tiny
16:58
Easter egg box sized steel
17:00
door which opened up to reveal
17:02
the most round and perfect chocolate
17:04
chip cookies and Lucas had ever
17:07
seen on a pattern red and white
17:09
striped plate with two Napkins
17:12
in triangles. Lucas
17:14
took the plate onto his lap and put his finger
17:16
on the cookie. Still.
17:20
He said the
17:22
door in the Hesi material disappeared and
17:24
we arranged itself back to the kind of manned
17:26
space. Lucas
17:31
score for a second. Can
17:34
I see the manual
17:37
please at
17:43
the beginning place? I
17:48
think so. I haven't touched my cookie yet,
17:50
but this thank you. Can
17:53
face again disappeared and the small steel vertical
17:55
door appeared once more. This time there
17:57
was a lift and flashing button that said
18:00
manual to the lefthand side,
18:03
Lucas guests, he had to press it, didn't
18:06
even notice he was on the fourth through the loop.
18:10
What happened next? Truly surprised
18:12
Lucas and made him cry out in shock
18:14
and excitement. Wonder
18:16
if you will be surprised and shocked to. You'll
18:19
have to wait for chapter three to hear
18:21
that. I do hope you remember
18:23
your p's and q's in your real life. That
18:26
means pleases and thank yous because
18:28
nothing is as the saying goes.
18:31
Well, thank you for listening to this
18:33
free podcast to our next
18:35
episode is called the
18:37
manual. I miss
18:39
it, but we're on our way to adventure.
