For many thrifty Coloradans, Labor Day used to be more than just an excuse to take off work. It was the shopping event of the year.

Starting in 1954, and for many Labor Day weekends thereafter, the Gart Brothers would throw open their doors and welcome customers with discounted prices on outdoor apparel and winter sporting goods.
