JT is joined by a very special guest speaker, Sharilin, who shares her remarkable story of turmoil, insanity and redemption. Growing up with alcoholic and drug dealing parents, Sharilin's early childhood is filled with her using and drinking not only to cope with the chaos in her home but to try to fit into a world she felt she never belonged. Trying her hardest to fit in, Sharilin finds herself becoming a chameleon that was desperately searching for acceptance and love. Fighting at school and getting into trouble from drinking on a constant basis, she finds herself tossed from her home before she graduates high school, joining the military in a desperate attempt to escape the madness. With little to no self-esteem she embarks on a long career of drinking in a very physical and mental abusive marriage and having child after child in hopes of fixing the dysfunction and lack of love. Moving from state to state with her alcoholic husband thinking each change would bring the life she was searching for she eventually finds herself homeless with her children in a rescue shelter for abused women. It is here where she finds love and acceptance for the very first time surrounded by women with the same fate and a special one that would become her saving grace and inspiring her to get an education and become a nurse. Although leaving her husband and getting a career improved her life, alcohol still had such a strong hold on Sharilin that she would continue to endure years of self hatred, suffering and the eventual loss of her children and choosing to become homeless while working and making a six figure salary. After becoming a victim of a brutal rape and almost being beat to death she finally finds herself in the rooms of alcoholics anonymous struggling to find a reason to live. In getting a sponsor and working the twelve steps she is finally able to find self worth, self love and be able to accept love from others. By continuing to work the steps and stay connected to her higher power she is now able to maintain her sobriety and share this inspirational story to others to show that recovery is possible for anyone!
