This lecture discusses key ideas from the 19th century novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky's work,The Brothers Karamazov, focusing on the fourth chapter of the fifth book, titled "Rebellion", during which Ivan and Alyosha are engaged in philosophical discussion.

Specifically it examines the portion of Ivan's argument where he discusses the case of the Swiss boy who is neglected and abused by his foster parents, who becomes a criminal, converts to Christianity in prison, and then is executed.
