Sangeetalahari presents Carnatic music recitals, both vocal and instrumental, accompanied by English commentary.
Carnatic music is classical music from the south Indian regions of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana and Kerala and derives its name from a belief that it is a musical form which is pleasing to the ear.
Besides the all-important and versatile role that vocals play, the main instruments are nadaswaram (double reed wind instrument), veena (large stringed instrument), mridangam (percussive instrument) and violin. In more recent times various artists have also introduced western instruments such as the saxophone, guitar and clarinet.
As well, with the mixing of eastern and western musical styles, ‘Carnatic fusion” has now also appeared.
Sangeetalahari wishes you a pleasant and relaxing experience.
