Some people just know there's a better way

0:03

to do things, like bundling your home and

0:05

auto insurance with Allstate. Or

0:07

hiring someone to move your piano instead of

0:10

doing it yourself. So,

0:15

do things the better way. Bundle home and

0:17

auto and save up to 25% with Allstate.

0:21

Bundled savings vary by state and are not available in every state. Saving

0:25

1:38

a shame. Ah, a lot of

1:40

my friend said think he lifted

1:42

deathbed confession. I would hope so,

1:44

but I find that unlikely. Honestly,

1:47

now I think that confession happened

1:49

in that interview basically admitted to

1:51

it by. Without admitting to it.

1:53

Yeah, He just sort of let it out

1:55

and then was like but you should have. A

2:36

2:38

2:40

2:43

4:46

We had a whole so it's all about

4:52

for people's think really happened during the Apollo

4:54

missions we cover Legend Lord Mystery, my carbs

4:56

4:58

some audience participation. As well. So we love that

5:01

when ya bring the innards I was last week. it's

5:03

not a vote on stuff to do certain celebrities. I'm

5:05

so sorry. Than Aflac says here and any

5:47

what's the weird thing to do in

5:49

the city to the lot of times

5:51

it has have twenty four hours and

5:53

were like we got a something weird

5:55

honestly that we we've gotten some really

5:57

cool little the sensors that a that

5:59

silent for. to it again. I'm also sort

6:02

of trying to go to the sphere in Vegas. We

6:04

will do that. If anybody's got a sphere connection. Holler.

6:07

I guess you could just get tickets. I don't

6:09

think it's that difficult to go. I think you

6:11

can call Bono and then he'll let you in

6:13

the sphere. Oh, we are close. So yeah, I'll

6:15

text Bono. We were texting earlier, so I'll just

6:17

mention it. And also,

6:20

we're probably going to go to the Hahn and... Zach

6:22

Bagans Hahn and Museum. Oh, for sure. Yeah, I have to.

6:24

I don't want to, but I have to. Yeah, it's necessary.

6:27

I would be remiss if we did

6:29

not go. So anything like that weird

6:31

quirky. Yeah, weird quirky wild stuff. Let

6:34

us know, please. Let us know.

6:36

Well, speaking of weird quirky

6:38

and wild, let's get

6:40

started. I'm Christy. I'm Heather. And

6:43

let's get freaky. This

6:45

first one is from April and

6:48

it is called my ex stopped me with

6:50

astral travel. Hello,

6:53

ladies. I just got done listening to your

6:55

episode on the Gateway Project and had

6:57

me thinking about an experience I had

6:59

as a young woman that I thought

7:01

you may find interesting or

7:03

at the very least might speak to someone who

7:06

needs to hear it. Let's get into

7:08

it. Content warning discussions

7:11

of stalking and obsessive behavior. When

7:14

I was in high school, I dated the same boy

7:16

for four years. He was a

7:18

little older than me, funny and

7:20

mysterious. I loved

7:22

him in a way. You can only

7:24

love when you're 16, which

7:27

is to say all encompassing and

7:29

naively. My boyfriend

7:31

was for lack of a better word

7:33

intense and as much as

7:35

my parents tried to discourage us. We

7:38

were inseparable. He wanted to see

7:40

me every day and go to every

7:42

event family or otherwise and latched on

7:44

to me at every chance he got,

7:47

but it didn't just stop at wanting to be

7:50

together during the day. He would

7:52

also tell me that he often astral

7:54

traveled to me just to be

7:56

with you going into great

7:58

detail on how he did it. and

8:00

mystifying me with how spiritual and deep

8:02

he was. Yeah, I

8:04

know, I was silly, but it was

8:07

a post-Twilight world and shit was romantic

8:09

when you're 15 and hormonal. At

8:12

first I didn't believe him. I told him

8:14

he was just dreaming. But that little

8:16

shit could tell me what PJs I wore.

8:19

He would tease me about if I drooled last

8:21

night. Eventually, I had to

8:23

tell him to please stop. It

8:25

was just way too much. Unfortunately,

8:27

I didn't realize how much it

8:30

was until the end of school when

8:32

I started noticing he was literally draining

8:34

my energy. I would be

8:36

exhausted by the end of a visit and had

8:38

started dreading seeing him at all. He

8:41

was a textbook definition of a psychic

8:43

vampire, and I was over it.

8:47

When I finally cut it off, let's

8:49

just say it didn't go well. He

8:51

would show up at the house and try to insist on talking

8:53

to me. Call the house several times

8:55

a day in hopes I would pick up and talk to him.

8:59

And worst of all for me,

9:01

write me essay-long messages about how

9:03

my loss had taken a toll

9:05

on him and how he

9:07

had ideations of self-harm that he was sure

9:09

would go away if I would just come

9:11

back. Which is bullshit, by the

9:13

way. For all you young listeners

9:16

out there who need to hear this, you

9:18

are not responsible for anyone else's

9:20

mental health or happiness. If

9:22

a partner or friend ever makes you feel like

9:25

their well-being is your responsibility

9:27

and detriment to your own,

9:29

please run. Others' actions are

9:31

never your fault. Please

9:33

be safe. People you love are

9:35

willing to help you get out of that situation.

9:37

A while passed

9:39

and I was able to move on. I got

9:42

some counseling and was able to heal a lot from the trauma

9:44

he caused. I started

9:46

a spiritual journey after a year or so. Not

9:49

uncommon in people seeking healing. But

9:52

as I learned and opened up

9:54

new senses, I started picking up

9:56

on things I wasn't comfortable with.

9:58

Every now and again I could sense the pain. my

10:00

ex in the room with me, especially

10:02

at night. I would be

10:04

meditating or trying to do some dotted dreaming and

10:07

I would just pick up on him lurking. It

10:09

was so violating and sometimes my parents

10:12

or sisters would catch me yelling at

10:14

a corner to, get the fuck away

10:16

from me you creep! I

10:18

would even sometimes see him in a

10:21

dream, standing behind in the background or

10:23

sitting across a room from me. Those

10:25

always made me wake up and feel like I

10:28

needed a shower. I

10:30

didn't dare reach out after that much time and

10:32

separation. I didn't want to open

10:34

up communication anyway. So I

10:36

reached out to other practices and tried to

10:38

learn to protect myself. Maybe

10:41

it was all in my head and maybe I

10:43

was just deeply gaslit but the warding

10:45

and cleansing worked so far be it for

10:47

me to look a gift placebo in the mouth.

10:51

I'm happy to say it's been over

10:53

10 years now. I'm happy, healthy, safe,

10:55

and grounded for the most part.

10:58

What I went through was abusive. It

11:00

took a long time to heal but

11:02

I did with the help of others

11:04

and sometimes medication. I

11:06

hope if you read this on air and someone

11:08

sees themselves in this story they know that abusers

11:10

come in all shapes and sizes. What

11:13

is happening to you is not your fault and

11:15

that you can and will be okay again.

11:18

Please just reach out and do what you need to

11:20

do to be safe even if that

11:23

is screaming in your closet to leave you the fuck

11:25

alone. Anyway, love the pod.

11:27

Thanks for doing what you do. Hope to

11:29

get to see you live someday, April.

11:32

Well April, thank you for that pep talk.

11:34

I think that's something that we all need

11:36

to be reminded of but especially like you

11:38

said younger listeners because you hit the nail

11:40

on the head to post Twilight. That's when

11:42

it's something is so like it's

11:45

so culturally like a

11:47

pop culture thing happens where like kind

11:49

of sweeps the nation or they get

11:51

wrapped up. Yeah, yeah and it's

11:53

showing it's like showing a relationship and what we

11:55

would say is an unhealthy way because he's literally

11:57

a vampire but also on top of that just We're

12:00

kind of like obsessive and following and

12:02

stuff like that. So yeah. But it's

12:04

romanticized to where young teens then

12:06

think, oh, this is love. This is what it means

12:09

to be in love. And I get it. Yeah, I

12:11

wanted to be like Edward. Yeah.

12:13

Yeah. Or what's the other

12:15

one? Jacob. Jacob. Yeah. Be like Jacob. Don't

12:17

be like Edward. I've changed. I'm team Jacob now.

12:20

I used to be team Edward. Come see me.

12:22

The children changed me. You'll hear why. Yes. The

12:24

women who changed you. But for

12:26

us, I hard relate to that.

12:28

It's the only type of love

12:31

that you can love when you're 16, 17. Because

12:35

we don't know what the fuck we're doing.

12:38

And when I look back on people

12:40

that I thought I loved at that point,

12:43

I'm like, honey, wow, what a toxic relationship

12:45

that was. Right? You're like, what was I

12:47

doing? No, seriously. But you get swept up

12:49

in it. And you don't know any better.

12:52

And I mean, it's kind of like, as part

12:54

of growing up, is learning what

12:57

you're willing to accept and what you're

12:59

not willing to accept. And I'm very

13:02

proud of you for saying no.

13:06

And don't just stop fucking

13:08

with me during the day. Get the fuck

13:10

out of my room at night when I'm

13:12

trying to sleep. That is not cool. You

13:14

can't be bobbing and going into people's houses

13:17

and bodies, and they don't want it. No.

13:19

And I'm glad that just yelling, get the

13:21

fuck away from me. I think that there's

13:23

something to that of sending out a get

13:25

the fuck away energy that maybe that'll disrupt

13:27

whatever he was thinking of. Or maybe he

13:29

just was such a bad guy that your

13:31

brain, he puts him up in your room. But I

13:33

don't know if he said he was trying to do

13:35

it. There could be something to that energy. But

13:38

like you said, do what you've got to do. Right.

13:41

Even if he wasn't, it's a

13:43

form of emotional and mental abuse

13:45

to tell someone that you are because it's

13:47

basically saying, I'm watching you all the time,

13:49

even when you sleep. There's nothing you can

13:51

do about it. Yeah. Yeah. Would

13:53

you encourage your abusive? Yeah. It is.

13:56

So fuck that guy and let the national

13:58

project up his own ass. Man,

14:01

astral project. He's gonna astral project

14:03

right on up there and he

14:06

doesn't get to come back. Nope. He gets stuck up there forever.

14:11

Well thank you so much April. Sinisterhood

14:15

will be right back. Well

14:18

as we all know neither of

14:20

us really particularly enjoy cooking but

14:22

we love to eat and we

14:24

love to eat good tasting food.

14:26

So when Factor came into my

14:28

life and I'm like I can

14:30

have chef prepared meals that

14:32

taste like somebody's been grilling

14:35

over a stove all

14:37

day. Yes please and it only took me two

14:39

minutes to microwave. That is what I'm talking about.

14:42

That's what I'm talking about too and I have

14:44

a habit of eating stuff over and over

14:46

again until I get sick of it. So

14:48

then I'm like oh if it's pre-prepared meals

14:50

I'm gonna get sick of them. But no

14:52

with Factor you have 35 different options a

14:54

week to choose from. Keto, Calorie Smart, Vegan,

14:56

Veggie, More and you have 55 nutrition packed

14:59

add-ons that help make the weekly meal planning

15:01

even more delicious. Get you some

15:03

smoothies, some juices, they have the

15:05

snacks that you eat but those

15:07

smoothies are my favorite. That tropical smoothie baby.

15:09

I think about it. Everything I've had uh

15:11

beef, chicken,

15:15

rice, pilaf, all of it. Like literally

15:17

everything I've had is so good and

15:19

I have friends that just have

15:21

had it on their own and they're like they are

15:24

the best aren't they? I'm like yeah they really are

15:26

good. I'm not we're not just blowing smoke up your

15:28

ass. No they really are delicious. It makes it

15:30

more delicious because it's no prep, no mess. It gets

15:32

delivered to your house and it's ready to eat. When

15:34

I'm hungry I'm hungry. Now I'm not trying to go

15:36

shop at the grocery store and then cook and then

15:38

do a whole cleanup after. I'm just trying to go

15:41

now and this is what Factor offers us. Yep

15:44

and if you're wanting more of an

15:46

upscale option for special occasion meals you

15:48

can do the Factor Gourmet Plus which

15:52

if you want to pretend like you cooked

15:54

something for a special someone I'm not gonna

15:57

wrap you up. We won't tell you. Yeah we

15:59

won't tell. No. Not at all. And

16:01

plus it's Earth Day so look for

16:03

the Earth Month Eats badge on the

16:05

menu. There's the lowest carbon footprint meal.

16:07

So Factor's always keeping an eye out

16:09

for that as well. Head over to

16:33

This next one is from Baylen and

16:35

this required me um sending a group

16:37

text to our besties over and

16:40

that's why we drink because the subject line

16:42

is your friends at and that's why

16:44

we drink got my ass haunted. Hi there

16:49

before I start I just wanted to say

16:51

that you were both are so wonderful and

16:53

intelligent and listening to your podcast is one

16:55

of my weekly highlights. I cannot

16:57

appreciate enough how you always give those who

17:00

are victimized a voice and treat them with

17:02

love and kindness. I

17:04

thought you might be interested to hear this story

17:06

because I'm not sure how many people have

17:08

been haunted by a podcast topic. Now

17:11

on to the story. My

17:13

father and I are both sensitive to

17:16

paranormal experiences. He was raised

17:18

on an isolated farm in Appalachia and taught

17:20

me all of the rituals and warnings that

17:22

come along with the entities that live in

17:24

those forests. My mom worked

17:27

in the criminal drug courts and has always

17:29

been fascinated by true crime. Needless

17:32

to say I've always been intrigued

17:34

by everything spooky scary or unexplained.

17:36

So when I was first getting

17:38

into listening to podcasts I explicitly looked for

17:40

those that aligned with those topics. This

17:42

led me to and that's why we

17:44

drink and of course you. In one

17:47

of their first episodes Em and Christine talk

17:50

about a demon that haunts Ouija boards.

17:52

Sorry for not saying the name

17:54

outright but since this night I

17:56

don't say write or even think

17:58

its name. Em,

18:01

however, did say it many times, and

18:03

that is what is known to summon

18:05

it. I was listening

18:07

in my apartment while doing dishes, and it was

18:09

turned up loud. I had

18:11

never felt anything in this space, despite

18:14

the last occupant having died in my

18:16

bedroom, which was not told to me

18:18

before I rented, and as I said

18:20

before, I am sensitive to those

18:22

energies, especially the dark ones. But

18:25

while the podcast was going, I started

18:27

to feel the hair standing up on my neck

18:29

and arms. You know how you can

18:32

tell when someone is watching you? Yeah,

18:34

that feeling. I figured

18:36

I was just creeped out and turned the podcast off

18:38

while I finished up the chores I was doing. But

18:41

after 20 minutes, the feeling hadn't

18:43

subsided, and only got worse. It

18:46

got so bad that I took my cat

18:48

and went for a drive, because I was

18:50

nervous about leaving her in that space without

18:52

me. When I returned

18:55

to the apartment, my roommate was home, and

18:57

I thought that it was nothing, and just me

18:59

being overly dramatic, I quickly

19:01

found out that was not the case.

19:05

I got ready for bed, and in that apartment

19:07

I always slept with my door closed so that

19:09

my cat wouldn't roam at night and get into

19:11

anything. It shut just fine,

19:14

and I went to sleep, but

19:16

at midnight I woke up to

19:18

the sound of the door opening. As

19:21

soon as I saw it standing open,

19:23

not moving, I started feeling

19:25

the staring again. I

19:27

tried to tell myself that it was simply the kitty

19:29

trying to get out and using her paws to pull

19:32

it open, and I must not have just shut it

19:34

fully. I shut the door again,

19:36

and managed to fall back a loop, only

19:39

to wake up not 15 minutes later

19:41

to the door standing open

19:43

once again. This

19:45

time my cat was fully asleep between

19:47

my feet, and I knew she hadn't

19:50

moved. To say the

19:52

least, I was fully crawling out of my skin. I

19:55

got out of bed and shut the door

19:57

firmly, and this is the worst part. And

20:00

wait. To say

20:02

the least, I was fully crawling out of my

20:04

skin. I got out of bed and

20:06

shut the door firmly. And this

20:09

is the worst part. I

20:11

watched the door to see if something was stuck

20:13

or causing the opening, a scientific

20:15

explanation to stop the panic. As

20:18

I watched, the doorknob twisted and flew

20:21

me. Not smoothly,

20:23

just a jerky back and forth

20:25

motion, and it began to push

20:27

open once again. When

20:29

I say I slammed it shut, I

20:33

was terrified. Whatever was

20:35

behind that door, it was a heavy,

20:37

opposing force, and I, unfortunately,

20:39

recognized it from other experiences

20:41

I'd had. I personally

20:44

believe ghosts are never evil, nor can they

20:46

cause harm to the living. Anything

20:48

that does, is not, and never

20:50

was, human. This was

20:53

not human. I cannot tell

20:55

you how glad I am that my father taught

20:57

me about the welcoming of entities into

20:59

spaces. He always said, if

21:01

you don't welcome it in, they cannot cross

21:03

a threshold. I locked the

21:05

door and spoke out loud. You

21:08

are not welcome into this space. You

21:10

have no power here. Luckily,

21:12

the door didn't open again after that. But

21:15

needless to say, I didn't sleep at all that

21:17

night. I could feel whatever

21:19

was standing there behind the shut door. I

21:22

knew the barrier wasn't enough to stop it

21:24

from watching me. The

21:26

next day I cleansed the entire apartment and

21:29

told the entity over and over that it

21:31

was not welcome. Luckily,

21:33

it must not have been able to attach to me

21:35

or anyone else there. Though

21:37

only a week after this incident, my

21:40

roommate with a chronic illness had a seizure,

21:42

after being seizure free for over a year. I

21:46

don't know if they're related, but I wouldn't rule it

21:48

out. I never did

21:50

finish that episode, and honestly, I have

21:52

no interest in trying to. Thank

21:55

you for reading this story, even if it doesn't make

21:57

it to the podcast. I'd love to write

21:59

in about how great grandmother's spirit possessed

22:01

a plant when I saw a cryptid

22:03

in the woods not a Bigfoot

22:05

sorry Kristy although I think you mean

22:08

Heather or how my

22:10

father saw the devil's face sometime

22:13

keep up the great work and know you are loved oh

22:17

thank you for that first of all and it's

22:19

very sweet that's very sweet and I also

22:22

want to see a Bigfoot but yes I think Heather

22:24

is I'm hungry for it well

22:29

Bailyn I think you got

22:31

to avoid our patreon mini-soad because I think

22:33

perhaps the demon the Ouija board demon I

22:35

won't say it because I don't want to

22:37

jack with your vibe where you're at right now so I'm

22:39

assuming you're gonna listen to the episode of your stories on

22:42

but we did a mini-soad on

22:44

it and so we said it a bunch

22:46

of times too so sorry about that yeah

22:48

but it always cracks me up like whether

22:50

it's the Ouija board demon or like certain

22:52

dolls that are more they're rougher than even

22:54

the one of the dolls we covered I did

22:56

not know that people have quite a visceral reaction

22:59

to him as well as another doll that we

23:01

have not covered and I've seen like when our

23:03

pals like if in the Christine covered or last

23:05

podcast on the left or two girls one goes

23:07

on social media people be like you get this

23:09

shit out of my feed you're cursing me

23:11

with these people and I was like so I

23:13

think yeah you know when these entities man they

23:15

can come through the airwaves the devil rules the

23:18

airways we've been saying it we might be in

23:20

it six years now 2018

23:22

yeah everybody I know on

23:24

tick-tock anytime there's something like that everyone in

23:26

the comments is like I rebuke this

23:28

energy yeah not coming to my house

23:30

like I don't know how they get around

23:33

when it what was that a

23:35

Kevin Bacon movie where he traveled through the

23:37

wicker man that

23:40

you hear if you hear a beast in the

23:43

background at my house it's not a demon it

23:45

is pedal who I decided to

23:47

let roam around the backyard because it's such a

23:49

nice day and now she's trying to get in

23:51

the studio she'll just be like man I filmed

23:54

her screaming the other night that sounds like the

23:56

call of a devil for sure that's for real

23:58

I'm always like my name are gonna

24:01

think we've asked them and they're like no we'd

24:03

ever hear them like I don't know how man.

24:05

Yeah they got their TV up loud or something well you next

24:07

time just go you are not welcome in this space you have

24:09

no power here. She has to go

24:11

back. She just goes like hrrrrr. But

24:14

maybe that's when people comment that it's like

24:16

the digital equivalent of what Bailin's dad said

24:18

to do like I rebuke this energy don't

24:20

come at me but yeah it's the I

24:22

got chills for real thinking about a doorknob

24:24

twist and that does something to me it

24:26

makes me feel like like yeah energy

24:32

more than a human hand twisting

24:34

it you know I hate it I

24:36

hate it so much yeah I will keep that

24:38

in my back pocket so tell your dad thank you

24:40

you are not welcome this space you have no

24:42

power here which we we had in the last

24:44

with April saying get the fuck out of here so see it

24:47

works it does work get the fuck out

24:49

get the fuck out also

24:51

if your dad has any

24:53

Appalachia stories please I am

24:55

on the Appalachia algorithm on

24:57

TikTok and I'm not mad

24:59

about it because shit is wild out there

25:01

so I would love to hear or your

25:03

mom too yeah I obviously you're gonna grow

25:05

up with an interest in this this

25:08

is why every night Simon's favorite

25:10

book is National Park Cryptage I

25:12

love that I can't we go through

25:14

last night he was like uh uh

25:17

go the Kentucky Goblin I want to

25:19

see Kentucky Goblin I got

25:22

a video you just

25:25

you'll be like what's this one called I'm like

25:28

this one is called the

25:30

bone rock sliders like bone rock

25:33

slider like you repeat all you're

25:35

gonna like memorize them like oh when you

25:37

go see start school in the fall and

25:39

they're gonna be like he knows his ABCs

25:41

is one two three all of his national

25:43

park cryptage you're like every one of them

25:45

yeah he memorized them this summer all of

25:48

them oh yeah they're like perfect this must

25:50

be Ella's brother we've already heard about all

25:52

these yeah right oh the girl

25:54

that came in the flat with monster shirt yeah yeah

25:56

that's the one it's her brother for sure oh I

25:59

love it well yeah please Listen to those Appalachia stories, any

26:01

stories. It sounds like your family's got a breadth

26:03

of experience. I'd love to hear about all that. And

26:06

thank you for sending this one in. It is eerie

26:09

and emacristy didn't mean it. They're good people.

26:11

And they were discovering the topic like we

26:13

did. I was ignorant and just yelling

26:15

it out, that whole mini so skip that one.

26:17

But the rest of them are good. Sinister

26:21

hood, we'll be right back. Some

we asked for hotel, motel

stories. Holiday Inn. Holiday

Inn. Lexi came in with

28:37

a good, well, actually Lexi's dad, which

28:40

I love this. This literally brought a

28:42

smile to my face when I was reading

28:44

this because I just,

28:47

we've had a couple of like

28:49

updates recently of people's parents'

28:52

stories getting read and they're like,

28:54

when my mom heard this, she

28:56

cried. It like, makes them so happy. It's like, yeah,

28:58

and I'm like, because that is a cool thing. You

29:00

know, and we love when- Yeah, on the radio, but

29:03

like not a radio, you know, it's on demand. When

29:06

people listen together with their families

29:08

or their partners and stuff, you

29:11

can share that it always makes us super

29:13

happy. And this is one of

29:15

those examples. Yeah. So the subject

29:17

of this is Motel Robber Caught

29:20

by Resident Ghost. Lexi

29:22

writes, Hi ladies,

29:24

love the podcast. Hope I can finally see

29:26

you live next time you're in the Buffalo

29:29

or Toronto area. July 19th. When

29:33

Heather asks for more hotel stories in

29:35

last week's Freaky Friday episode, I immediately

29:37

called up my dad and told him

29:40

to write about one of his experiences

29:42

as an owner of a haunted motel.

29:45

This was the most excited that I'd seen him

29:47

in a long time and he emailed it back

29:49

to me within 30 minutes. I

29:52

know. So here's

29:54

his story. July 25th, 1814.

30:00

the War of 1812 took place on

30:02

Drummond Hill in the Battle

30:04

of Lundy's Lane, Niagara Falls,

30:06

Ontario. Canada had not

30:08

yet been formed as a nation when

30:11

British and American forces fought for what

30:13

was then Upper Canada on that fateful

30:15

night. Each side lost 800 men

30:18

and many horses in the

30:20

six-hour surprise slaughter. In

30:22

the end, the Americans retreated, leaving

30:25

the hill to the British. Oddly

30:27

enough, what should have been designated and

30:30

preserved as a historic site, we

30:32

were granted approval to build our

30:34

35-unit motel on that very hill, just

30:37

below the cemetery where many of the

30:39

dead are buried. That year was

30:41

1986. We

30:43

always respected and honored the significance of

30:46

this site, even erected a

30:48

large mural to commemorate that event. Needless

30:51

to say, our motel was very

30:53

haunted. Most notably, soldiers

30:55

were seen by our small staff walking

30:58

in the basement, as if they were

31:00

alive in the flesh. We

31:02

never felt scared, but rather

31:04

protected. We honored them and

31:07

they protected us. It

31:09

was a couple years into our business that I

31:11

was sleeping in the back room of the office

31:13

when, during a severe thunderstorm, a loud

31:16

crack suddenly woke me from a deep

31:18

sleep. I thought it was thunder

31:20

that maybe shook the place so hard it cracked one of

31:22

the front windows. When I jumped up

31:24

to open the curtain, there stood

31:27

a stunned man, no more

31:29

than three feet from me. Clearly,

31:31

he had tried to break in, smashing the

31:33

plate glass. I immediately snapped

31:35

on the light and scared him off. In

31:38

the thundering rain, he quickly jumped back

31:40

into his topless jeep and rode off.

31:43

My first reaction was of joy that

31:45

this thief was, at the very least,

31:47

now getting soaked as he escaped the

31:49

scene of his crime. It

31:52

was 3am. Rain was pouring

31:54

down. Lightning struck all around

31:56

us, and here, some fool thought it

31:58

was a good idea to break into

32:00

our motel. I put on

32:02

some clothes and ventured out to check on the damage,

32:05

when I couldn't believe my eyes. He

32:08

had lost his wallet right by the

32:10

window he broke. Everything was

32:12

there. Name, address, credit

32:14

cards, even some money. The

32:17

police were just as surprised as I was. I forget

32:20

what his name was now, but the cops went

32:22

right to his home to return his lost wallet,

32:25

and proceeded to arrest him for breaking and

32:27

entering. I can only imagine this

32:29

guy's shock. The thief ended

32:32

up in court. Turned out he was

32:34

actually a front desk clerk at another hotel,

32:36

and according to him, stopped

32:38

on the way home to relieve himself

32:40

in the nearby bushes. The judge

32:42

didn't buy a story that it was just an

32:45

impulsive lapse in judgment. He was

32:47

fined and had to pay restitution. To

32:49

this day, I believe that our friendly

32:52

spirits protected us that night, 100%. No

32:55

crime is simply that easy to solve. Lexi

32:59

writes, So ladies, what do you

33:01

think? Foolish robber who loses his

33:04

valuables too easily? Or soldier

33:06

ghost protecting my family? Either

33:08

way, my dad can write a book of

33:11

all the stories from our golden years at

33:13

the motel. Hopefully, now in

33:15

his semi-retirement, he'll finally get started.

33:18

Thanks for reading Lexi and

33:20

Julius. Yes, like Julius

33:22

Caesar. Well, Julius, please

33:24

write that book. I would read it. You're writing it.

33:26

No! It's so compelling. I

33:28

was right there with you, man. I've envisioned all of

33:31

it, and I like the end

33:33

of its very beyond belief factor fiction.

33:35

What do you think? Foolish robber who

33:37

loses his valuables? That's fact. All of

33:39

it is true. I really think you're

33:41

right, though. The wallet being right there,

33:43

almost placed. I love the idea that

33:45

the soldier's like, well, I'm a ghost,

33:48

so I can't stop him. Let me

33:50

just push him over. Just a little

33:52

bit of

33:54

energy, just enough to move a wallet.

33:56

Yeah, a little tap, something lightweight that

33:58

you have enough energy. And maybe with

34:00

the thunder and lightning it like juiced him up somehow.

34:03

I don't know how ghost energy works But I like

34:05

to think it's like it's like Frankenstein. It helps them

34:07

like yeah Well,

34:11

I do think that

34:14

this guy was quite surprised, you know, he got

34:16

home he was like son of a bitch And

34:20

one because it's such a bitch to

34:22

replace everything you lose in your wallet But

34:25

more importantly you've left your

34:27

little literal identification Yeah,

34:32

what a fool I love the

34:34

respect for the soldiers too, that's what

34:36

yes Nelson from the ghost guild our

34:38

resident paranormal advisor was always

34:40

like being respectful to the entities and you

34:43

know, like when we were at the battleship,

34:45

North Carolina like thanking them for their service

34:47

and Making sure you

34:49

have almost like a report it because like Julia

34:51

said like we're building our motel here But we're

34:53

gonna make sure we honor the site with not

34:56

only just a mural and be like yeah I

34:58

don't know some dumb battle how you know, but

35:00

like ongoing like this is an important place yeah,

35:03

and even though the city

35:05

or the state whoever does those things might

35:07

not have Put it as like

35:09

a historic site the fact that you took

35:11

the time to do that speaks volumes to

35:13

your character because Yeah, a lot of people

35:16

would just be like I don't want anybody

35:18

knowing that stuff happened here Yeah, it'll bum

35:20

them out or whatever. Yeah, well, it's first of

35:22

all, it's true And they can fall it's like

35:24

disrespectful to their the lives that were lost for

35:26

you know But even though it was way back

35:28

when it's you know It's still the energy and

35:30

the sacredness of that ground So I love that

35:33

but yeah get you get you to write and

35:35

Julius get out that laptop get you a notebook

35:37

out Whatever it takes and write that down. I

35:39

read it for sure. This was very well

35:41

written And I would love to hear

35:43

more stories like this. So thank you

35:46

Lexi for sending this man in July 19th I'm

35:49

just saying you and Julius if I

35:51

make this I would die like please

35:54

Hit the ceiling if I'm not like are you kidding me?

35:57

That's what I understand is you get stuck to beat us

35:59

But just like that as much we get so

36:01

excited to meet you like whether it's y'all

36:03

sitting a fricky Friday story or you're in

36:05

36:08

36:10

36:34

36:36

36:38

back there that by the boat yeah I

36:40

want to read that again about that boat

36:42

36:44

36:46

36:48

38:03

18 plus. Welcome

38:30

to another round of Drawing Board or Miro Board. Today

38:38

we discuss technical diagramming with systems

38:40

architect Maya. Let's go. First question.

38:42

You've spent 10 hours slogging over

38:44

a sequence diagram that should have

38:46

taken 5. Drawing board or

38:48

Miro board? Drawing board. And if

38:51

I'm being honest, Miro would probably cut that time

38:53

down by half. You know, with its AI tools

38:55

and ready to go templates. Next, your

38:57

diagrams become so bulky, it's more complex

38:59

than the solar system. But all it

39:01

takes is a few clicks and... It's

39:04

Miro! I've used those technical shape camps

39:06

way too many times and stuff is

39:08

just digestible on its infinite online canvas.

39:11

Now, the final question. Everyone's brought in.

39:13

But you have to make all these

39:15

tasks all the way over in Jira.

39:17

But wait! It's done! Is it... Miro!

39:19

Easy with its two-way Jira thing. Easy

39:21

to plot dependencies. Everyone always knows what's up.

39:23

And she's done it! Join over

39:28

without work locally. Get your first

39:30

three boards for free at miro.com.

39:32

That's m-i-r-o.com. The

39:35

next one's from Jess and the subject line is,

39:38

Sir, that's not an acceptable form

39:40

of payment. A night shift hotel

39:42

employee story. Hi,

39:44

ladies. Love you both and I'm so

39:46

excited to answer the call for wild

39:49

hotel employee stories. When

39:51

I was in college, I worked as a

39:53

night auditor at a 200-room chain hotel. This

39:56

was an ideal job because I basically got paid

39:58

to watch movies and do school. Schoolwork,

40:00

uninterrupted. I mean sure, I

40:02

was literally the only employee there from

40:04

eleven pm. To Seven Aunts. And yeah,

40:07

there were absolutely zero security measures in

40:09

place, But I was young and dumb

40:11

and it was the year two thousand.

40:14

So. This particular hotel had a few

40:17

decent sized banquet rooms that were sometimes

40:19

rent it out for weddings. These

40:21

weddings are usually over by the time myself

40:23

started, but the night in question was one

40:25

of those rare ones that was still in

40:27

full swing. There's. Almost one am before

40:30

the last guess had stumbled back to their

40:32

rooms and the banquet staff cleared out for

40:34

the night. All was quiet for

40:36

about a half hour. And. Then a

40:38

young tuxedo dude bro appeared at

40:40

the front desk. You. Know that kind

40:43

of drunk. When he can't even open your

40:45

eyes, stand up straight. But you're convinced you're

40:47

doing a great job of acting sober. Set.

40:50

Was this guy? He smiled and leaned

40:52

against the lower part of the front desk for

40:54

support and said. And. He a

40:56

room. Ah sir I said I

40:58

just seems your. Id in a credit card. Dude.

41:01

Bro started chuckling to himself. Not.

41:03

In a creepy way. but in a drunk baby. I

41:05

have a funny. Joke pena way to

41:07

her her purse and I got

41:10

my wallet. he slurred only got

41:12

this assists. This. Was

41:14

his last? his dick? Which. He

41:16

had flocked under the counter and was gazing

41:18

out with the pride of an Olympian who

41:20

just won gold. In that moment,

41:23

I wasn't scared. It. Didn't feel

41:25

threatened. In fact, I didn't feel like I

41:27

was in danger at all. I. Was

41:29

just really pissed at this drunk. Fucker

41:31

with keep me from my paperwork. I

41:34

looked him in the eyes, deadpanned, and

41:36

said. Nope. Ladies

41:39

honestly don't know. If he put it away

41:41

or not, But. He turned around

41:43

laughing like, well, a young drunk

41:45

jackass. And. Then he disappeared right

41:47

out the front door and into the night.

41:50

Now. I did call to male friends to come

41:52

sit. In a lobby with me for the rest the evening.

41:55

And I did call the police who came to

41:57

take my statement. But nothing ever came of

41:59

it. and there were no further reports of

42:01

a drunk guy exposing himself to anyone in

42:03

town. I would like to think

42:06

that if something like that happened nowadays, the police

42:08

would treat it much differently. And

42:10

again, intuition told me that this guy wasn't

42:12

going to hurt me, so I don't know, I was

42:14

young and dumb. I have a million

42:16

stories about my time at the hotel. Here's a shameless

42:18

plug, I've written some of them here on Medium

42:22

at J-A-L-C-O-N-A-W-A-Y.

42:26

I look forward to hearing fellow nightshifter stories.

42:28

Keep up the great work y'all, and please

42:30

consider coming to the east coast sometime soon.

42:55

Silly reserve. Just like ahh, get out and

42:57

take your little worm with you, come up here

43:00

for it. Put

43:24

that away. Certainly, sir, we don't accept

43:26

that here. No, no, we

43:28

don't take payment so

43:30

small. No, but you're right, Jess. Paris had

43:32

that same night out at her job in college

43:35

and he said the same thing once. He's like, I

43:37

got to select where the door's locked and he was like, back then,

43:39

no. Isn't that wild? People just

43:41

go in anytime. I'm

43:43

like, thank God, nothing happened. Even

43:46

today, people that work night shifts of

43:48

any kind, especially when the public is

43:51

coming and going, those types of

43:53

hours, y'all are

43:55

doing a certain kind of work that I'm

43:58

not cut out for. type of

44:00

person and I applaud everyone that can do

44:02

it because... Yeah, shut up. It's hard work.

44:05

Yeah, it is. Especially sleeping too but... Yeah. You

44:08

know, just like interfacing with God knows what's fixing to walk through the door so...

44:11

But this... At least he didn't

44:13

pull out like a gun but... Lip

44:16

dicks right under... You know, like if I don't want any

44:18

of that, can you just knock up with me? I'm just

44:20

trying to work. I'm trying to do my homework

44:23

and my paperwork like, pucks straight off. Yeah. And

44:26

then he didn't even get a room. No.

44:28

He's like, what? Oh, sorry. Bye.

44:31

Yeah, he's like, they're like, Derek, we gotta go.

44:33

He's like, oh, God, it's gonna stop by the

44:35

front desk first. They're like, Derek, if you pull

44:37

your dick out... God. He's like, I'm not

44:40

gonna do it this time. Derek. I

44:42

don't know. Derek? We know that

44:44

you're gonna do it. You said it last time that you weren't gonna

44:46

do it and you still did it. Oh, man. Well,

44:49

he is banned from several motel chains,

44:51

I hope. He should be at least. Yeah. If

44:54

you pull your dick out, to

44:56

anybody in any kind of retail

44:58

situation or customer service,

45:00

you're automatically banned from their

45:03

establishment. No, I agree. Because

45:05

that's not conduct becoming of a gold status

45:07

number. No,

45:10

that's not how you become an executive

45:12

suite member at a Marriott Bonvoy. It's

45:14

just pulling your plastic dick out.

45:16

No, it's horrible. And everybody keep it

45:18

in your pants. No one wants to see that. So,

45:20

it's a PSA. Mm-hmm. Well,

45:23

this next one is from Alex and the

45:26

subject line is, it's a twin thing. Hi,

45:30

I absolutely love the show and while I was listening

45:32

to Freaky Friday 106, I heard Heather's

45:35

request for twin stories and one immediately

45:37

came to mind. I

45:39

have a fraternal twin, meaning we were

45:41

separate eggs but the same pregnancy. Not

45:44

quite cool as identical, but I'll take it.

45:47

My twin's name is Katie and although we

45:49

are not exactly the same genetic material, we

45:51

do seem to have a strong connection to

45:54

each other just from being woe mates, as

45:56

Katie likes to call it. In

45:58

school, we would freak out. frequently freak teachers

46:00

out by asking the exact same question

46:03

or making the exact same comment as

46:05

one another despite being in different periods

46:07

of the class and not seeing or

46:09

speaking to each other in between. But

46:12

the best example of our twin thing was

46:15

back in elementary school. I

46:17

was outside for gym class and got stung

46:19

by a bee on my pinky finger. I

46:22

told my teacher, but strangely enough, it

46:25

didn't hurt at all, so I just

46:27

kept playing. About 10

46:29

minutes later, my PE teacher checked in on

46:31

me, and though I still was not feeling

46:33

any pain, my hand had swollen up significantly,

46:35

and I was told I would have to

46:37

go to the nurse's office to look at

46:39

it. While at the

46:41

nurse's office explaining what happened and putting an

46:44

ice pack on my hand as I was telling her

46:46

it wasn't a big deal, please can I

46:48

please go outside? Katie

46:50

came in, tears streaming down her

46:52

face. Through her tears,

46:54

she told the nurse and I that

46:56

her hand had randomly started hurting very

46:58

badly and she couldn't figure out why.

47:01

I gave her a hug and handed her

47:03

my ice pack, and the nurse just stared

47:05

at us dumbfounded. I

47:07

know it's a little silly, but I hope

47:10

you enjoyed reading about Katie's and my twin

47:12

thing. Have a great day, Alex. Katie

47:16

absorbed your pain! I... yeah,

47:19

that's so sweet, but I also love

47:21

that y'all in elementary school, all of

47:23

these adult t-shirts were like, what the

47:25

fuck is happening right now? Did your

47:28

sister tell you that? Did

47:32

your sister ask you to ask me that? It's like,

47:35

no, we don't even see each other in between classes,

47:37

but that's so eerie to like have a bee sting

47:39

and be like, oh, it's fine, it doesn't hurt, I'm

47:41

just swollen, like what? And then to have

47:43

her be like, ah, I'm just trying to color my paper and

47:45

my hand hurts! There is

47:47

a terrible movie

47:50

with Lindsay Lohan that...

47:54

There's elements of this to it where like,

47:57

she's a twin,

47:59

but... doesn't know it or something

48:01

and like her hand starts

48:04

getting like fingers cut

48:06

off. It's so bad that I can't remember

48:08

the full. I'm just

48:11

kidding. Yeah. It's I

48:14

think it's called like somebody's hand.

48:17

Oh, Jessica's hand. It's not Jennifer's body.

48:19

I know that it's it

48:22

was probably oh man. Early

48:25

2000s. It's

48:28

so awful that I can't even remember the name of it. I

48:30

know who told me. Backing

48:34

that's it. A young woman named Aubrey

48:36

Fleming falls victim to a sadistic kidnapper.

48:38

When her ordeal is finally over, she

48:40

has a shocking surprise for her family.

48:42

She claims to be someone else. Some

48:45

wonder whether Aubrey is mentally ill, intentionally

48:47

lying, or if there's some bizarre truth

48:49

to her claim. July of 2007. Well,

48:53

it sucked. And that's my official review.

48:55

And I got three out of 10

48:57

on IMDB and a 9% on

49:00

Rotten Tomatoes. That's 9% positive. So

49:03

not a great impressive to get

49:05

9% is truly. I

49:08

think they'll dip it so that you might want

49:10

to go watch it just because it's so terrible.

49:12

It's like the room. It's like oh yeah, I

49:15

was like sun that this

49:17

got greenlit and was being made.

49:19

It's that bad, but it has elements

49:21

of this kind of thing except much

49:23

more gruesome in it. But I

49:25

guess Alex,

49:27

Katie, and Lindsay all told me about us.

49:31

You can feel pain that maybe isn't

49:33

actually being inflicted on you, but if

49:35

you're close to someone, somebody else's

49:37

pain. Yeah, I feel like this is

49:39

I've seen this on perhaps like

49:41

Unexplained, the William Shatner hosted show

49:43

or something similar where they talk to, they

49:45

interview people who are twins who have had

49:47

something like this of like, I was just

49:49

literally at home cooking dinner when my twin

49:51

sister was out skiing and she fell down

49:53

and broke her leg on the mountain and

49:55

I just felt like my leg got. I

49:57

felt like I was going to do it.

50:00

like I broke my leg while I was just like trying to

50:02

scramble eggs in my kitchen. And I'm like, ain't that

50:04

about a bitch? Like you're like, my

50:07

leg goes, don't hurt yourself because I

50:09

also feel it. It's like you have

50:11

to take responsibility, but that's the, and

50:13

you don't even have to be the

50:15

same egg. Sometimes you're two different eggs.

50:17

I love roommates by the way. It's

50:19

very cute. You just, but you

50:21

were in there at the same time. You're

50:24

vibing at the same time and the same

50:26

juice. So you're going to have a connection.

50:28

You're soaking in the same juices. So you're

50:30

marinating in the same juice down there. No,

50:32

I think it's true, man. When you, those

50:34

formative first moments, you know, you're a,

50:36

there's something to get on that same

50:38

wavelength that bit. Oh yeah, for sure. Well,

50:40

thank you very much, Alex. And yeah, anybody else

50:42

has twin stories, keep them coming. Sinister

50:46

hood. We'll be right back. Ryan

50:51

here and I have a question for you.

50:53

What do you do when you win? Like

50:55

are you a fist pumper a woohoo or

50:57

from Raya and the subject line is sky

51:24

trumpets. Hi ladies.

51:26

I love the podcast so much. And just want to

51:28

start by saying how much I love you too. During

51:31

lockdown, you are my go-to podcast

51:33

and I eagerly await every episode

51:35

coming out each Wednesday. I've been listening

51:38

to Freaky Friday for a while now, but

51:40

when I went back and listened to your old 2023 episode

51:42

on sky trumpets, it reminded me

51:44

of an event that happened a couple of years ago

51:47

during our trip to Scotland. For

51:49

a bit of context, I live in Southern

51:51

England and we'd gone to Loch Ness with my

51:53

family for a weekend to see if we can

51:55

encounter any cryptids. Spoiler alert.

51:57

We didn't, but we got something.

52:00

else entirely. It was

52:02

the final day of the weekend and we'd

52:04

driven about three hours south of Loch Ness

52:06

when we decided to visit Loch Carey, a

52:09

really obscure lake in the middle of nowhere

52:11

which was a very special place for my

52:13

mom's parents. Anyway, we'd all

52:15

gotten out of the car, all trudged out

52:17

in our welly boots with our lovely German

52:20

Shepherd Jupiter. Then he was just a

52:22

puppy. And we walked a half an

52:24

hour or so until we got to the lake from the

52:26

car park. We were down one

52:28

of those sketchy paths that's marked with a sign

52:30

so you know it's a footpath and you're allowed

52:32

to walk there. But it wasn't

52:34

exactly the most well kept path I'd ever

52:36

walked down. I got brambled a

52:39

lot. And that's when we heard it.

52:41

I had heard your recordings of sky trumpets and

52:44

I still, to this day, don't know what the

52:46

noise was. I've attached audio that you're

52:48

more than welcome to play on the pod. We

52:51

were in the middle of nowhere in Scotland and

52:53

we'd gone down loads of really windy, tiny country

52:55

roads to get to this lake. I

52:58

don't think the audio gives it justice but

53:00

this thing was loud and went on

53:02

for about a minute or so.

53:05

There were no planes, no houses

53:07

within a fairly decent vicinity and it was

53:09

way too loud to be building work. I'd

53:12

like to know your guys' opinions on this and what

53:14

you think. I've also attached the

53:16

location of where this happened which, by some

53:19

miracle, was taken when I still had the

53:21

iPhone setting on where it gives you a

53:23

location where your photo or video was taken. When

53:26

I mean the middle of nowhere, I'm not

53:28

kidding. Even if you don't

53:30

decide to read this on air, I just want

53:32

you to know what an impact your podcast has

53:34

had and how grateful I am for what you

53:36

guys do. Keep it creepy, Raya.

53:39

Well, thank you so much, Raya, and we're

53:41

very grateful for you as well and the

53:43

audio that you sent in. I've

53:46

heard it, but you wanted to wait until

53:49

this to read it and also Raya sent

53:51

a screenshot of where the

53:53

location and it is in the middle of

53:55

nowhere. Yeah, you did not oversell it. No,

54:00

isolated. I'll put a

54:02

clip of this map on our Instagram so y'all can

54:04

see. Alright, I'm going to play the sound. Let me turn

54:06

my volume up. Yeah,

54:21

it almost sounds like a plane,

54:23

but Raya said there were

54:25

no planes. And given the

54:27

location where this is, I don't

54:30

think a ton of planes are probably flying over. Maybe,

54:33

but yeah, not then. You see it. It

54:35

sounds like a huge rumbling of

54:37

sorts. Yeah, that's what's eerie about some of

54:39

the sky trumpets sounds. I mean, we talked about it

54:41

in that episode is it you're like,

54:44

is the world ending right now? Like, what

54:46

is the sound? And so yeah, I can

54:48

imagine if you're like going down this like

54:50

bramble pathway and it's like, Oh, because the

54:52

beginning of the recording, it's kind of like

54:54

what lovely birds chirping and then it's like,

54:59

oh, this is where the fucking UFO sucks me

55:01

up and takes me away. Yeah, I'm the Sandown

55:03

clown is coming to get me. You can suck

55:05

me up in this plane, it's a spaceship and

55:07

take me away. You might

55:09

not have had Nessie, but Lop

55:11

Carey has got something else. You

55:13

got Gary over there. It's a

55:16

little hairy even Kings carry. Yeah,

55:20

it's red actually. It's all blood. But

55:22

if any of y'all listening have been

55:24

been to lock Carrie and have had

55:26

any weird experiences or from that area

55:28

and you've heard the call of the

55:31

sky trumpets like right us in because that

55:33

it's the the break in the

55:36

soft like bird chirping and for

55:38

that rumbling that really makes me nervous

55:40

would make me very scared. Even

55:43

the scientific explanation of the

55:46

earth just makes noises and like we

55:48

don't hear a bunch of still like

55:50

that's almost more unsettling because you're like,

55:53

shit, I never thought about that. There's just like

55:56

noises going on all around. If

56:01

we were in space, I think you'd realize how

56:04

loud it is here all the time. That

56:07

we just kind of, it becomes background noise and

56:09

you take for granted. But then when you think,

56:12

what are other noises that are going around

56:14

that I just like can't hear at that

56:16

frequency? And then some of them break

56:19

through or the earth shifts, everything moves. You're

56:21

like, the whole house just creaks. And

56:23

by that, I mean the whole

56:26

earth just creaks. Yeah. It's like,

56:28

what are y'all doing down there? Why is it rumbling? What's

56:30

going on? Are you working on stuff underneath me?

56:32

I need to know. Especially out in the abandoned

56:34

forest in the middle of Scotland. Yeah. It

56:37

is something we take for granted is

56:40

the megahertz of the earth, the ongoing

56:42

vibration of it. Well, you

56:44

got to a quiet enough place and

56:46

you heard it yourself. You

56:48

heard the call of the trumpets, Raya. You did.

56:51

You heard it. Well, thank you so much, Raya, for sending

56:53

that in. And thank you to everyone

56:55

57:07

being. Send them
