which is close to replace

0:53

you could. You'd rather just

0:55

going to. Do.

1:07

Well. Hello and welcome to another edition of

1:09

Freaky Friday! It is a Friday May

1:12

seventeenth and by the time you're hearing

1:14

this, we will have. Done. Are

1:16

very first show of our Full Moon Energy

1:18

tour and it was a hit in St.

1:20

Louis. We know it so well, St. Louis

1:23

was great, was an aunt and then tomorrow

1:25

night as you hear this on May eighteenth

1:27

we're going to be in Chicago and May

1:29

nineteenth we're going to be a Milwaukee it's

1:32

of Bobo weekend. It's going to be a

1:34

ton of fun. I'm excited to have an

1:36

extra day in there to do Chicago sun

1:38

things to all a cellphone. I hope it's

1:41

still cool. their fingers crossed it my But

1:43

I like their If seventy five and they're

1:45

like. It's so hot and we're like,

1:47

okay, we'll take it seventy five

1:49

straight. Yeah, thirty five sons like

1:51

a dream, right? Other today isn't

1:53

that bad, but you know, still

1:56

not great i'm surprised it's not warm

1:58

because the sun is exploding right now.

2:01

There's the massive solar coronal ejections

2:04

that I keep seeing. Normally

2:06

people on TikTok that I follow

2:08

for storm stuff are talking about

2:10

the sun flares are bursting and

2:14

you might be able to see aurora

2:16

borealis super far. So if y'all have

2:18

seen the Northern Lights down in Missouri

2:21

this week, send us a Freaky Friday message

2:23

because the burst was supposed to allow you

2:25

to see aurora borealis kind of fall

2:27

across the country. How are

2:29

those two things correlated? And

2:32

I probably sound ignorant, but I don't know. The

2:35

only thing I vaguely understand is that I

2:37

think that when the burst of energy comes

2:39

from the sun, it mashes on whatever aurora

2:42

borealis is and kind of like pizza dough.

2:44

It submissions it further than what it would

2:46

normally be, which is up at the top

2:48

of the globe, you know, in

2:51

your classroom. The party part. If you're in St. Louis

2:53

and you get to see this, good for you, because

2:55

that sounds... Right. Going into like Alaska,

2:58

somewhere where you really get a

3:00

good view and seeing that is

3:02

a bucket list of mine. Where

3:04

it just looks like otherworldly, just

3:07

green and blues swirling in the

3:09

sky. Take me, take me to the Northern Lights.

3:11

Well, we're gonna take you to lots of places

3:13

on this Freaky Friday. We have tales

3:17

that span the globe. Well, we

3:19

may not be going to the Northern Lights anytime

3:22

soon, but we are gonna be heading to

3:25

some fabulous cities. We've

3:27

already been to one and it was fantastic. And

3:30

by the time you hear this, but like

3:32

Heather said, for our Full

3:34

Moon Energy Tour, St. Louis,

3:37

Chicago, Milwaukee, Charlotte, Raleigh, Cincinnati,

3:39

Cleveland, Toronto, I'm so excited

3:41

to go back there, Kansas

3:43

City, Oklahoma City, San Diego,

3:46

Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Dallas.

3:48

For all the details, including

3:51

dates, times, venues, and more,

3:53

visit sinisterhood.com/live shows. And what

3:56

show are we doing, Heather?

3:58

We're doing that Full Moon Energy Tour. And if

4:00

you want to know what full moon energy

4:02

is about let me tell you it's about

4:05

taking up space It's about being that thing

4:07

that just drives people to the brink and

4:09

we're gonna teach you all about that and

4:11

how the moon does That to us and

4:13

how we can better Encompass that by all

4:15

the mysterious macabre lore creepy legends Conspiracies

4:18

all the weird stuff you like to hear us joke about

4:20

that's what we joke about But it's all centered around the

4:22

moon So if you have a friend who's never heard the

4:24

podcast before Doesn't know what the hell it is we do

4:26

it's a great way to bring him to the show because

4:28

everybody loves the moon We all live right underneath it

4:31

Yeah, we everybody does what if

4:33

anybody out there hates the moon Bring

4:36

him. We'll turn we'll convert him we can yeah,

4:39

I shouldn't have said fuck off bring them and

4:41

then we'll convert him They'll leave a lover. You'll

4:43

leave a lover of the moon for sure Well

4:47

for now we have some very

4:49

freaky stories lined up for you

4:51

today, so I'm Kristi no mother

4:53

and let's get freaky This

4:57

first one is from Kristin, and

4:59

it is called a dark and rainy

5:01

night in Littleton Hello

5:03

sinister hit has become one of my very

5:06

favorite podcasts Thank you so much for all

5:08

the time and effort you put into creating

5:10

a podcast that is not only entertaining But

5:13

you do a wonderful job of ensuring that

5:15

each story is respectful, and I appreciate that

5:17

very much The story

5:19

I would like to share takes place in early 2006

5:21

in New Zealand I'll

5:24

be changing the names of my friends I was

5:26

traveling with as I've lost touch with them and

5:28

didn't want to use the real names without permission

5:31

The details of this story are etched

5:33

so deeply in my brain because so

5:36

much of it is still a mystery

5:38

to me So let's get into

5:40

it I was living on

5:42

the South Island of New Zealand working with

5:44

a nonprofit that at the time I believed

5:47

was just doing good work in the community Later

5:50

in life I would come to realize that I

5:52

was living with a religious cult This

5:55

story is a perfect example of things that

5:57

they would do and play off as

5:59

quote normal I was

6:01

young and far too trusting, so I didn't

6:03

question it at the time. And

6:05

18 years out, I'm glad to say that

6:07

since that time, I've grown a good head

6:09

on my shoulders. They

6:12

wanted everyone to participate in what they

6:14

called Faith Week. We could

6:16

bring one backpack, one sandwich, no

6:18

phones, and no money or credit or debit

6:21

cards, and we got dropped off on the

6:23

side of the road an hour from where

6:25

we were living and just had to have

6:27

faith we would be taken care of. We

6:30

weren't allowed to go home for seven days, and

6:33

then when we came back, we would all share these

6:35

stories with each other. I

6:37

was dropped off on the side of the road with John

6:39

and Sarah. All three of us were

6:42

from different parts of the United States, and

6:44

we were a bit skeptical of how the week would

6:46

go. Hitchhiking is,

6:49

or at least it was in 2006, legal

6:51

in New Zealand, so thumbs out,

6:53

we were ready to find a ride. The

6:57

first four days were actually pretty great. We

7:00

met some awesome people who opened their homes to

7:02

us, we were given wonderful places to stay,

7:04

and one host had a party for

7:06

us so his friends could meet the

7:09

Americans in town. As

7:11

the week was winding down, we decided to

7:13

head to a little peninsula off of the

7:15

city we were most familiar with. The

7:17

only way to get there is through a mile-long tunnel

7:20

that goes through a mountain, and you can't

7:22

walk or hitchhike through it. We

7:24

ended up each using some money a new friend

7:26

had given us to buy bus tickets into Littleton.

7:30

When we got there, it was dusk. There

7:32

had been two other people on the bus with

7:34

us, who got off and went their separate ways,

7:36

and we decided to walk around the small harbor

7:38

town to get our bearings before finding a place

7:41

to stay. As we

7:43

turned the corner, we saw a man that was on

7:45

the bus with us who waved as we walked by.

7:48

We realized quickly that finding somewhere to stay

7:51

in Littleton was going to be a challenge.

7:53

It was getting darker quickly, and

7:56

it was starting to lightly rain. There

7:58

was no one to be seen in town. When

8:01

we turned a corner again, we saw the

8:03

same man from the bus walking towards us.

8:06

As he approached, he flowed, and asked us

8:08

if we needed any help. We

8:11

quickly explained what we were doing and how we

8:13

had ended up in Littleton, and asked if he

8:15

had any ideas of where we could stay. I

8:18

wish that I could offer for you to stay at

8:20

my place, he responded, but

8:23

my wife's family is in town visiting, so we

8:25

have a full house. You should

8:27

try the church down the street. Maybe the priest is

8:29

there and will let you stay. Thinking

8:32

him, we headed to the church a few doors

8:34

down, and across the street. We

8:36

knocked on the door several times, and peered

8:38

in the window, but it was clear that

8:40

the building was empty. Turning

8:43

around, we saw that there was some kind of

8:45

a school building that had awnings over the walkways,

8:47

so we crossed the street to walk up the steps so

8:50

that we could stay dry under the awnings. We

8:53

talked for a couple of minutes about our options,

8:56

before hearing a rustling to our

8:58

left. We looked up and

9:00

saw the man from the bus standing by

9:02

the tree line of some dense woods, waving

9:05

at us. Our first

9:07

instinct was to be completely creeped out. How

9:10

had he gotten behind us without a scene, and

9:12

why did it look like he came out of the woods,

9:15

especially now that it was fully dark

9:17

outside? He

9:20

approached us and said that he spoke with his

9:22

wife, and they decided we could stay with them.

9:25

They didn't want us being stuck out in the rain all night. Reluctantly,

9:28

we agreed, as we didn't want to be stuck

9:30

out in the rain all night either. We

9:33

walked down the steps to the sidewalk, and

9:35

he turned right, walking up the steps to

9:38

the house directly next door to the school.

9:41

So why had he come out of the woods on

9:43

the opposite side of the building? It

9:46

was a large Victorian style house, with

9:48

a big front porch. It

9:50

was about 9pm, and the house was dark,

9:53

except for one light on in the living

9:55

room. When we walked inside,

9:57

we all set our bags down, and looked towards

9:59

each other. The house was

10:01

eerily silent, which is not what we

10:03

expected after being told that we couldn't

10:05

stay there since they had a full

10:07

house. There was

10:09

a small rocking horse next to the couch

10:11

in the living room, a desk with a

10:14

desktop computer in the corner, and a small

10:16

hallway that led into a dark kitchen. There

10:19

were two doors in the hallway. I

10:21

saw one door crack open about an inch

10:23

and the face of a woman looked out

10:25

before the door quickly shut. She

10:28

said nothing and we never heard another

10:30

sound flimmer. May

10:32

I offer you some dinner? I apologize

10:34

the kitchen is a mess. I'm always busy

10:37

with my work and my wife was busy

10:39

with our toddler all day so the dishes

10:41

piled up. The man said. The

10:44

sink was overflowing with dishes. We

10:47

politely told him not to worry and happily

10:49

accepted a small meal. He

10:51

then said, you know, you should all

10:53

take showers tonight. You're in New

10:55

Zealand. There's not a lot of hot water in the

10:58

mornings, so it would be better if you showered tonight.

11:01

We politely declined the offer and I looked

11:03

to Sarah to see that she was physically

11:05

shaking in fear. John

11:07

who was trained in the military was suddenly

11:09

on high alert and stood in front of

11:12

Sarah and I. We

11:14

had been living in New Zealand for several months

11:16

at this point and we lived in a small

11:18

community with four houses that housed about 40 people.

11:21

We never ran out of hot water in the

11:23

mornings. Are you sure? The

11:26

man asked again. If you don't shower tonight, you aren't

11:28

going to be able to shower in the morning. We're

11:31

sure. John replied matter

11:33

of factly before asking, is

11:36

there anything that we can do to help you? We're

11:38

grateful that we have a place to stay and we

11:40

would be happy to help out around the house before

11:42

we leave in the morning or if there's yard work

11:44

we can do tomorrow before we head out. The

11:47

man just shook his head no and

11:50

turned around to walk back to the kitchen. John

11:53

turned to us. Something weird

11:55

is going on. He said, I want

11:57

you two to get some sleep tonight. I'm going

11:59

to. stay awake and make sure nothing

12:01

happens. I reluctantly

12:03

nodded my head, and Sarah sat,

12:06

shaking, unable to speak. The

12:09

man entered the room again, maintaining

12:11

his emotionless demeanor as he interacted

12:13

with us. Sarah and

12:15

I were sitting near our bags on the living room

12:17

floor at this point, John standing

12:19

in front of us. The man

12:22

stood in the doorway of the kitchen, leaning

12:24

against the wall as he looked at us. I

12:27

thought of something you could help with,

12:29

he said, his voice and facial expression

12:32

stoic, with an emotionless grin on his

12:34

face. Sure, John answered,

12:36

how can we help you? Well,

12:39

you see, he began,

12:41

the emotionless grin remaining, I'm

12:44

a therapist, and I have this client. You

12:46

can pray for him. Okay,

12:49

said John, what's his name?

12:52

Oh, I can't tell you that, it's confidential.

12:54

But my name is Michael. You

12:57

can just pray for Michael's client. Okay,

12:59

Michael, is there anything specific you would like us

13:02

to pray for? John prided. Well,

13:06

Michael began, staring past us out the

13:08

front window of the house. You

13:11

see, Michael said as he made eye

13:13

contact with John, he

13:15

killed someone, my client, and he

13:18

just can't forgive himself for it. As

13:21

Michael paused, the house was completely silent.

13:24

All I could hear was my heart beating in

13:26

my ears. It was like

13:28

the air was electric. I looked

13:31

over to see Sarah had taken out a notebook

13:33

and pen. She wrote something and slid

13:35

it to me. I think that it

13:37

said we need to leave. But she

13:39

was shaking so badly that it was hard to

13:41

read what she wrote. Michael

13:44

continued talking slowly and looking menacingly

13:46

out the window. Everyone

13:49

thinks he's a monster. But

13:51

he's just a scared little kid

13:54

inside. That emotionless grin was back on

13:56

his face as he stood in the doorway

13:58

staring at us. He

14:00

slowly made eye contact with each of

14:02

us, then said, not

14:04

the kind of guy you would want to run

14:07

into on a rainy night in Littleton. Oh,

14:10

my God, I thought we

14:12

were going to be murdered in Littleton. Okay,

14:17

John began, we can do that. It

14:20

was silent, and slowly we began to

14:22

hear pings of large raindrops hitting the

14:24

tin roof of the house. As

14:27

the rain escalated, the sound got louder

14:29

and louder as our eyes got wider

14:31

and wider. There was

14:33

a pit in my stomach, and at

14:36

this point, you could physically see Sarah's

14:38

entire body shaking. Hey,

14:41

Michael said, looking around John to Sarah

14:43

and myself. Have you ever

14:45

seen the Last Lord of the Rings movie? I

14:49

nodded my head yes, watching John do the

14:51

same. Michael continued, you

14:53

know that part of the movie where the

14:55

army is all standing in their armor, waiting

14:57

for the battle to begin, and it's

14:59

almost silent. All you can

15:02

hear is the sound of the raindrops hitting

15:04

their armor. We all nodded

15:06

the yes, we did in fact remember that

15:08

scene, as we listened to the

15:10

pouring rain outside. Michael

15:12

was looking past us again out the window, and

15:15

a wide grin spread across his

15:17

face before his eyes shifted quickly

15:19

to make eye contact once more, saying,

15:24

sends chills down your spine, doesn't

15:26

it? And with

15:28

that, he quickly turned and walked down the

15:30

hallway towards the kitchen. John

15:32

turned to us quickly, get your bags, put on

15:35

your coats, wait for me by the front door.

15:37

We are not staying here. Sarah

15:40

and I scrambled to collect our things, and

15:42

heard John call down the hallway to Michael.

15:44

Hey, so sorry, we decided to move on

15:46

for the night, but we will pray for

15:48

your client. As

15:50

John was zipping his jacket, Michael

15:53

appeared in the doorway once more.

15:55

Are you sure? He said, you

15:57

can stay and shower, you won't be able to

15:59

show. hour in the morning. We're

16:02

sure, John stated, if he continued to

16:04

stand between Michael and myself and Sarah.

16:07

Well, okay, Michael said,

16:09

an air of frustration in his voice, but

16:12

if you leave and that door closes

16:14

behind you, you can't come back. We

16:17

understand, John quickly replied, thank

16:19

you for everything. With

16:22

that, I grabbed the handle for the front door

16:24

and the three of us piled onto the front

16:26

porch. As soon as the

16:28

door clicked shut, the three of us ran.

16:31

With pure adrenaline fueling us, we ran

16:33

through the entire town to the tunnel.

16:36

John busted into a bar on the corner and

16:38

begged a woman that was about to leave to

16:40

drive us through the tunnel to the bigger city.

16:43

To this day, I don't know how we convinced her to let the

16:45

three of us in her car at 11 pm,

16:48

but after getting dropped off on the other side of the

16:50

tunnel, we walked for several hours until

16:52

we had to stop out of pure exhaustion.

16:56

We slept on the grass in front of the Salvation

16:58

Army for a few hours. Right

17:00

after we'd fallen asleep, a drunk driver

17:02

crashed through the gate and came within

17:04

several feet of running us over. The

17:06

car still worked and the driver, without

17:09

even noticing us, just backed up and

17:11

drove off again. We

17:14

called the leader of our program the next morning

17:16

and told them we were coming home two days

17:18

early and someone needed to come pick us up

17:21

from the city. They reluctantly

17:23

agreed, and lo and behold,

17:25

we were the last set of people

17:27

from this religious cult that ever participated

17:29

in, Faith Week. I

17:31

guess once you almost get several members

17:33

murdered in the city, you re-evaluate what's

17:36

important. To this

17:38

day, I have no clue who Michael really was.

17:41

Going on my instincts that night, Michael

17:43

isn't a therapist. I think

17:46

Michael is that monster who's really a scared

17:48

little kid inside. Who

17:50

knows why he wanted us to shower so

17:52

badly, but I'm happy we didn't stick around

17:54

to find out. I've

17:56

tried doogling everything I can think of, but

17:58

I've never gotten any- closer to knowing just

18:01

how much danger I was in that night.

18:03

I. Wish that I still had the pictures that

18:05

I took of Sarah's handwritten note. Saying.

18:08

We should leave. This. Loss on an

18:10

18:56

18:58

19:00

19:03

is like I'd rather think I rather think

19:05

20:34

what do you we gotta call it protect deflect and

20:36

20:43

gosh That's I'm gonna stand between you but that's so

20:45

nice of you. Thank you. We're gonna just go this

20:47

way. Thank you very much Yeah,

20:49

that's what a especially a such a remote place

20:51

That's really hard to get to and from like

20:53

you can't walk there You can't take you have

20:55

to have a car when you don't have a

20:58

car and yeah It sounds like the people that

21:00

ran faith week were like, ah, well, we got another

21:02

one It almost got picked up by a serial killer.

21:04

Guess we have to stop doing that Yeah,

21:07

Adam loves like we're just gonna drop you

21:09

off with barely any food and not

21:11

really anything and just quote You gotta

21:13

have faith. You're gonna make it out.

21:15

Well, sometimes that's not enough and we gotta

21:20

We need something more luckily you had somebody

21:22

that was military trained that was like not

21:24

on my watch Yeah, and whoever

21:26

that shout out to the lady was like All

21:29

right. Yeah, I get in the car. I'll give you a

21:31

rod of the tunnel. Yeah Well,

21:34

thank you so much Kristen for sending that

21:36

in and we're glad that you made it

21:38

out of there a lot narrow narrow escape

21:43

Sinister hood will be right back. Oh Oh

21:48

Tell you what if I have to

21:50

shave my legs, I want

21:52

him to I don't want it to hurt I

21:54

don't want it to be bloody situation. No,

21:57

it's messy. And that's how I know it's

21:59

summer time and I'm happy to see a

22:01

razor if it's an Athena Club razor. That's

22:03

I'm fine with an Athena Club. You

22:05

got to step up your game especially now that

22:07

we're coming out of pants season.

22:10

Some you know if you want your

22:13

legs to be silky smooth the best

22:15

way to do that was with Athena

22:17

Club's award winning razor kit. It is

22:19

seriously the best on the market Heather

22:22

and I both use them have exclusively

22:24

for over a year now. I won't

22:26

go back. I can't go back. No I refuse.

22:28

I'm I'm not.

22:31

There's a reason to the Athena Club razor

22:33

kit. First of all it's an absolute steal

22:35

of just 10 bucks. It comes with a

22:37

beautifully made ergonomic handle two super sharp razor

22:39

heads that deliver an incredibly smooth shave every

22:41

time. It just makes you feel juicy. It's

22:43

great. You also get a game changing magnetic

22:46

hook with the razor kit. So it easily

22:48

stores your stuff. So it doesn't get all

22:50

gooey and gross on the side of your

22:52

tub or falls down or smashes or comes

22:54

apart. Blammo it's right there right on the wall. We

22:56

love it. Yes also little hands

22:58

can't get to it as easily as

23:00

if it's just sitting down. Little

23:03

little tiny fingers and little tiny rays. You know they

23:05

want to touch it and see and then it's no

23:07

good. So you got to put it up there on

23:09

the little the little hook hangy

23:12

thingy. Also the quality of

23:14

the shave that just the razor

23:16

glides effortlessly thanks to

23:18

those five precision engineered blades. The blades

23:20

are perfectly spaced out to let hair

23:23

pass through with each stroke and you'll

23:25

experience less irritation which is always a

23:27

win in my book. I also don't

23:29

think I've ever had a multitasking razor

23:32

but this one moisturizes while you shave

23:34

with an avocado oil and hyaluronic acid

23:36

serum. Plus it has built-in skin guards

23:38

that help to prevent razor burn. This

23:40

thing is like I tell you it's

23:42

just yeah it's like not the best

23:44

co-worker you have. It's just multitasking on

23:46

all fronts. It puts us all to

23:48

shame and you never have to worry

23:50

about dull blades because you get refills

23:52

sent on your schedule. You just tell

23:55

them how often you want fresh blades.

23:57

Athena Club will send them automatically with

23:59

free shipping. So you always have

24:01

the best blades for the best shave

24:03

experience it for yourself So we've been

24:05

singing its praises But until you feel

24:07

that juicy skin under your hand and

24:09

house like moisturize its been you just

24:11

won't know So you're ready to upgrade

24:13

shaving This

24:36

next one is from Brenna and it is called

24:38

dad might have pissed off the mob Hello,

24:42

I've been listening to your podcast for a

24:44

little over a year now And I'm still

24:46

catching up on episodes, but I love the

24:48

energy you both bring to the podcast After

24:51

listening to a lot of listener stories I

24:53

wanted to write in about some of the

24:55

weird true crime like things I've experienced in

24:57

my life But I'll start off with

24:59

this one in this submission For

25:02

some brief context to this story I live in

25:04

Ohio and a majority of my life was spent

25:06

here even though I was born in Texas My

25:09

dad was in the Air Force and thankfully I

25:11

only had to move once when I was younger

25:13

since they really wanted him to stay in Ohio

25:17

Have you ever had a memory that you were not

25:19

sure if it was an actual memory or a fever

25:21

dream? Because this story was

25:23

a situation like that, but

25:25

I confirmed it with my dad and I was

25:27

not losing my mind I mentioned

25:29

my dad was in the Air Force But he

25:32

retired after 20 years and after that he went

25:34

on to do so many different jobs I

25:36

don't remember his job title exactly when

25:38

this happened But I believe he was

25:41

a civilian contractor for the Air Force

25:43

that oversaw many different projects One

25:46

day my dad came home from work He

25:48

had talked with my mom on the phone beforehand

25:50

about the situation But then let the

25:52

three kids still in the house know what was going

25:54

on He told us to

25:56

be extra careful and to keep an eye out whenever

25:59

we went out Me

26:01

being in, I want to say 7th or 8th grade,

26:03

maybe like 13 to 14 years old, tried to get

26:06

more information because anxiety and

26:09

never really got one right away. It

26:12

wasn't until a few days later of bugging my

26:14

parents, because I needed to know what I needed

26:16

to be on the lookout for, that I

26:18

found out my dad might have pissed off

26:21

the mob. I know

26:23

that sounds so freaking crazy, especially since

26:25

this was Ohio. I

26:27

didn't question this as a kid. Rather, I

26:30

was extra paranoid and kept an eye out.

26:33

I remember at one point looking under my

26:35

parents' cars for explosives. In

26:37

defense of my younger self, all I knew about

26:39

the mob was from movies or fiction books. So,

26:43

I was paranoid for about a year, and

26:45

then stopped, because I probably moved on to

26:47

something else, or my parents might have

26:50

said we were fine. Well,

26:52

I finally asked my dad about this at

26:54

29 years old, because I happened to remember

26:56

and had to make sure it was not

26:58

some crazy fever dream. My

27:00

dad explained to me that it was true, and he

27:02

was working on some project for work that

27:04

involved a construction crew, but

27:07

they were doing illegal activities, and

27:09

overall, just sketchy things. He

27:12

also mentioned that it seemed like the construction

27:14

manager was in charge of everything, and not the

27:16

program manager that was supposed to be in charge.

27:20

My dad called them out on the

27:22

illegal activities and really pissed off the

27:24

construction crew. He then

27:26

had a really bad feeling and called my

27:28

mom and explained what happened. He

27:31

had a gut feeling to be extra careful,

27:33

and said that if something ever happened to

27:35

him, it would be the construction guy, and

27:37

gave my mom his name. He

27:40

never confirmed it was the mob, but he

27:42

said based on everything he saw and experienced,

27:44

it felt and looked like the mob. He

27:47

would take different routes home and had a document

27:49

of the activities just in case something happened to

27:51

him, so my mom could use it if needed

27:53

to get the guy. Turns

27:56

out, a few months later, the construction crew was forced to dissolve

27:58

due to the to

28:00

the illegal activities, and my dad

28:02

never heard from them or saw them again. He

28:05

has kept the documents all these years

28:07

just in case. This very

28:10

much helps explain my overall

28:12

paranoia in life. I already

28:14

had the anxiety. Thank you for

28:16

reading this, and if I hear it on the podcast,

28:18

I will squeal like a child with joy. I hope

28:21

the Texas summer is not too brutal this

28:23

year and that your AC continues to work.

28:26

Wow, take those blessings. Thank you, Brenna.

28:28

Wow, your dad was ready to turn states

28:30

with this man. He's like, keep them, babe,

28:33

get the filing cabinet, put this in the

28:35

fire safe. It's always construction. It is waste

28:37

management. It's a big one. Summer, maybe like

28:39

that. Yeah, where it's like you kind of

28:41

figure out a way to get a company

28:44

to pay another company that pays a guy

28:46

who pays a, I don't know how

28:48

it all works, but when you uncover something.

28:50

I'm someone from the Sopranos. That's right. Knowledge

28:52

is. And also, Godfather,

28:55

everything don't do about all of my

28:57

in there. Huh? Paris is just

28:59

there watching the thing about Jimmy Hoffa. I was

29:01

like, what is this? All of my

29:03

stuff, Brenna, that I know is largely from

29:05

movies and books as well about the mob.

29:08

So Oh, yeah. Yeah. I'm so bad about

29:10

that. Untouchables. I

29:12

hate that you're having to look under your

29:14

parents' car. So for explosives, poor little thing.

29:16

But luckily, everything

29:19

worked out. But your dad was right. He

29:21

had, he knew something was going

29:23

on. He freakin spotted it. That is

29:25

a scary position to be in when you're

29:27

like, I value my position, like as you

29:29

know, as a civilian contractor with the Air Force. And

29:31

now I have stumbled onto something illegal. And

29:34

I was trying to be a whistleblower, a

29:36

witness, whatever, but like, I'm not going to

29:38

join the mob. So I got to take sides here. It's like,

29:40

you know, your average guy just going to work

29:42

not realizing you're going to uncover some like, mob

29:45

conspiracy, but that you're right. It's hard

29:47

for a little kid to be like, worried

29:49

about just little kid things, because childhood in

29:51

general is just a lot, but then to

29:53

also be like, and also I'm like, Elliott

29:56

Ness, I'm worried that they're gonna get in.

29:58

Yeah. Yeah. stress

30:00

you can't explain to the school guidance counselor

30:02

easily. Right. Well Brenna, we're very glad that

30:04

your family stayed safe and that your dad

30:06

stuck to his guns. He was like, I'm

30:09

not gonna get all messed up in this

30:11

illegal stuff. I'm gonna, I'm gonna stay ethical.

30:13

Good for you. Right. Keep it on the

30:15

up and up and you know what? Keep

30:17

receipts. We love to see it. Oh yes.

30:21

Well this next one is from B and it

30:24

is called It's Raining Concrete. Hey

30:28

ladies, I'm a new listener as of a

30:30

couple weeks ago. You too, rock. I've

30:33

forgotten about this story into listening to

30:35

one of the recent Freaky Friday episodes

30:37

which was filled with experiences of close

30:39

calls. While my experience

30:41

doesn't quite measure up to the scale

30:43

of those who almost boarded a missing

30:45

flight or just barely missed a terrorist

30:47

attack, it still reminds me of

30:50

how easily life could change. When

30:53

I was around 18 months old and

30:55

obliviously enjoying my final months as an

30:57

only child, my mom took me

30:59

to a nearby mall to run some errands

31:01

and bond with her favorite child. This

31:04

mall is very unique. It's on the

31:06

older side and built in sections. So

31:09

to go from one side to the other, you

31:11

have to exit one building and cross a small

31:13

street. During this time

31:15

it was also undergoing heavy renovation

31:17

which made the environment noisy and

31:19

dusty. My mom

31:21

decided to brave the ruckus since this mall

31:23

was the only one in the area that

31:26

had a pottery barn kids and she

31:28

liked to show me the fun toys

31:30

while shopping for my room. Mom was

31:32

making her way to the store and wandering

31:34

the nearby shops when she came onto the

31:36

sidewalk that would take you to the other

31:38

side of the mall. A

31:41

large section filled with various construction material

31:43

was blocked off by orange cones

31:46

so she pushed the stroller carrying me

31:48

onto the road, around the pile and

31:50

back onto the sidewalk. No

31:53

sooner had my stroller hit the sidewalk

31:55

than we heard a resounding BOOM!

31:59

Fill the air. Mom turned

32:01

around to see a massive block

32:03

of concrete hit the road exactly

32:05

where we'd been walking just seconds

32:07

before. She looked

32:09

up to see a construction worker on the

32:11

roof with the most terrified expression on

32:14

his face. Being

32:16

the unbothered queen that she is, my mom

32:18

smiled at the man and kept right on

32:20

walking to PBK, trying not

32:22

to think about the fact that she and her

32:24

baby could have been turned into mush if the

32:27

block had landed sooner. The

32:29

theory goes that the construction worker had

32:31

tossed the block off the roof, thinking

32:33

that it would land in the pile below, but

32:35

overshot and just chucked the thing right

32:38

into the road. I'm

32:40

unbelievably grateful that I'm still here and

32:42

that my sweet mom wasn't hurt either,

32:44

but I can't t- I'm

32:48

unbelievably grateful that I'm still here and that

32:50

my sweet mom wasn't hurt either, but

32:52

I can't think too much about this story before

32:54

my head starts spinning. What

32:57

if I'd been killed? What if the block

32:59

had pinned one of us to the ground? What

33:01

if we'd witnessed someone else being struck by the block?

33:03

It could have hit a car! Truly,

33:06

we were fortunate enough to get the

33:08

absolute best case scenario. An

33:10

undeterred mom and an oblivious baby,

33:13

along with a scarred construction worker

33:15

who probably never acted impulsively again.

33:18

I hope. It still

33:20

amazes me that no one got hurt. When

33:22

I talked to my mom about the story to get

33:24

the details right, she said, Oh yeah,

33:26

I went to that mall yesterday. I, however,

33:30

have not been back since I can remember. Stay

33:33

safe and invest in a heavy duty stroller.

33:35

Thanks for reading my story. That

33:38

is like a scene from a cartoon

33:40

with like an anvil or a piano

33:42

just falling. That's horrifying. Yeah. This

33:45

is- these kind of freak accidents are-

33:48

oh, they get me because it's just like- You're

33:50

just living your life and boom, like out of

33:52

nowhere. You know, you don't even see it coming

33:54

and construction stuff.

33:58

I've stumbled upon this. and stuff on the

34:00

air and I wish I could take back.

34:03

And it's just like, it's horrible, but you

34:06

got around just in time and I

34:08

long to be as unbothered as your

34:10

mother because I would not

34:12

have had that reaction. Be like, she

34:15

scaled the side of the building like King Kong and

34:17

took that guy and ran and joke him. No

34:20

joke, that's like, that's a sign though of

34:22

maybe like, eh, 20, 30 years ago, however

34:25

long ago this was that it was like, hey

34:27

man, accidents happened. Yeah, but also

34:30

that you're like, five

34:32

stories up and I'm just gonna chuck

34:35

a huge piece of concrete over the side.

34:38

No, no, you need a basket, a collection basket up

34:40

at the top and then like a hoist or a

34:42

lift to take them all down. Let's not just, with

34:45

reckless abandon, sort of fling large, dangerous

34:47

things, like I said, an anvil, a

34:50

piano situation, anything like that of falling

34:52

stuff really does, like you said, those

34:54

freak accidents and I'm with you, you

34:56

can't really think too much about it,

34:59

it's like, no, but that kind of

35:01

the idea of quantum immortality is that

35:03

in some strange universe, you did get

35:05

flattened like a pancake and that split you off

35:08

into this universe that you're living in now, so

35:10

isn't that weird? Yeah,

35:13

B, why don't you chew on that for a

35:15

bit? And that's your mom. Happy birthday. See what

35:17

she's got to say about that. Her

35:20

mom was like, I don't know, maybe, anyway, there's a great

35:22

sale of port or a board kit. Yeah,

35:25

the fact that she can go back there, but

35:27

you know what, you gotta, sometimes that's the best

35:29

way to get over it, is just to confront it head

35:31

on, but it's like, I won't be stopped. That

35:34

is a moment though, and

35:36

very big teaching moment for that construction worker and I

35:38

hope that he did look down and see what could

35:40

have been, or maybe what was

35:42

in some other parallel universe and then was

35:44

like, oh, collection basket, all right, team meeting,

35:46

we gotta get a collection basket from now

35:49

on. Yeah, I hope his stomach fell right

35:51

out of his ass and he was like,

35:53

never again, and now every work site he's

35:55

on, he's like, I'm gonna tell you some about throwing

35:57

things over the edge. One time, take this

35:59

post, smash. and a little baby and a lady and

36:01

I didn't do it because I just so happened I wiped

36:03

my nose on my shirt right before I threw it. If

36:05

I had to wipe my nose it would have happened in

36:07

some universe. I think I didn't wipe my

36:09

nose. I think things are different. Anyway, so

36:11

before every construction site, he really, I think,

36:14

so it was a teaching moment B for

36:16

this man's life. Yeah, you're near miss. Near

36:19

miss saved countless other people's lives.

36:22

Well, thank you B for sending that one

36:24

in. Sinisterhood

36:28

will be right back. Helix

36:37

we're gone on tour aside from

36:39

your children and aside from your family, what

36:42

is the number one thing that you miss

36:44

when we travel? And I think our answer

36:46

would be the same. It is, it's the

36:48

mattress. We've been in a lot of hotels,

36:53

you would rate them. And honestly, the

36:56

Helix mattress is always more comfortable than any

36:58

hotel mattress we've ever come upon. We don't

37:00

even stay in like five star hotels, but

37:03

the times in my life, like when I

37:05

worked at the law firm, I could stay

37:07

at like this really swanky hotels. Doesn't matter,

37:09

Helix Sleep, it blows them out of

37:11

the water every time. Yeah, the

37:13

Helix lineup offers 20 unique mattresses,

we love it. It's very comfortable for us

37:24

to lay on with her at night. Also,

37:26

it comes with those two pillows that

37:29

are just the best pillows I've ever had. And she

37:31

loves the pillows too. Helix knows there's

37:33

no better way to test out a new mattress than

38:35

38:40

this next one is from Liz and the

38:42

subject line is, the time my car got

38:44

broken into and I sounded like the one

38:46

police should be more concerned about. Hello,

38:49

your whole team is amazing. I love getting

38:51

to tune in weekly to hear my friends

38:53

talk about anything and everything. Thank you for

38:55

that. About six months ago,

38:57

a rash of car break-ins started happening all

39:00

around my city. A car

39:02

would slowly drive down the street while three

39:04

or four people would run from driveway to

39:06

driveway looking for any unlocked car and taking

39:08

whatever they could quickly get out of the

39:10

car. Admittedly, I had been

39:12

pretty lazy about walking my car because nothing

39:14

ever really happened to my neighborhood. Famous

39:17

last words. I get up for

39:19

work pretty early. So I didn't think much of

39:21

finding some random items on my driveway. I

39:24

thought I had been pretty messy somehow coming home

39:26

from work the night before, gathered them up

39:28

and just went about my drive to work. About

39:31

halfway there, I noticed that the inside of

39:33

my car was also a mess and

39:36

many items were missing. My garage

39:38

door opener had also been thrown in the back,

39:41

but somehow I just continued driving. Forgive

39:43

me, it was like 5 a.m. Eventually,

39:46

I noticed a lot was missing and

39:48

ended up turning around and calling to

39:50

report a car break-in. When I

39:52

explained to the operator what had been stolen, they

39:54

sent an officer out. Then I

39:57

had to explain to the officer that

39:59

a dagger... a hatchet, a

40:01

machete, and an axe were among the

40:04

stolen items. All in all, about

40:06

$600 worth of items. As

40:09

the officer continued to look around my car,

40:11

he then found the remaining two machetes and

40:13

the other knives. I was

40:15

nervously trying to explain my job, forestry, and

40:18

how I actually used all of these things

40:20

in a legitimate manner, but you could see

40:22

the look of confusion about the excess of

40:24

pointy things in my car. I

40:27

get it, I probably looked insane at this point. After

40:30

all the police activity died down, my neighbor

40:32

came over to ask about what had happened. Apparently,

40:35

that same night, their car

40:37

had been broken into. There was

40:39

nothing to steal, but their garage door opener was

40:41

out. Two men had used it

40:44

to actually go into their garage at 6.45 in

40:46

the evening, but were scared off when the homeowners

40:48

went in there. Which made

40:50

me remember the odd placement of my

40:52

opener. Luckily for me, my

40:54

opener really sucks. You have to jam it

40:56

about 40 times and line it up exactly

40:58

right for it to actually work. Turns

41:01

out that about an hour after my neighbors

41:03

break in, another neighbor about a mile away

41:06

from us had about 10 cars that were

41:08

vandalized, with broken windows and damage to the

41:10

cars. Nothing was taken from those,

41:12

the cars were just smashed up. The

41:14

reporting officer contacted me to mention that

41:16

he thought it was likely done with

41:18

my missing hatchet. At the

41:20

end of all this, my car was fingerprinted, my neighbors

41:22

refused to file a break in report, none

41:25

of my items had been recovered, a bunch

41:27

of cars were senselessly damaged, and

41:29

I finally learned to just lock

41:31

my car. On

41:35

a list of types and things you

41:37

don't want to have to report was

41:39

stolen. Hatchet,

41:41

multiple knives, axe, or

41:44

gotta be up, you're missing

41:46

duct tape, rope, ski mask,

41:48

like, it's like, hey, I swear

41:51

it's all for work, I promise you. I

41:53

work in an interesting field, it gets cold out there, that's

41:56

why I also need the ski mask. Yeah,

41:58

it's definitely a thing to have to call like 588- and it

42:00

was like, my hatchets are gone. And they

42:02

were like, hello? And then we find

42:04

out they were using another crime. Man,

42:06

Liz lost her hatchets and some motherfuckers

42:09

took them and just went on a

42:11

hatcheting joy ride. People that

42:13

break into cars like this, there's

42:15

a special place. And if

42:17

there's a hell, that place for you

42:19

because it's just senseless. You don't

42:21

need any of this shit. You know, it's just

42:23

like doing stuff to be messy

42:26

and to cause problems. And you

42:30

don't realize how that can

42:32

really mess up somebody's whole, not just their

42:34

day, but like we talked about in the

42:36

last weeks, you could lose your

42:38

job because you didn't get to get

42:40

there on time because you got to report

42:42

this and all this stuff. Plus you don't

42:44

want just anybody running around with a hatchet.

42:47

Yeah, if you have a dagger, a hatchet,

42:49

a machete, and an ax out in the

42:51

wild, that is nerve-wracking. But I

42:53

think, you're right, Liz, if you're like, I live

42:55

in a rural place, no one's gonna come by

42:57

at like 5 a.m. and bust in my car,

43:00

but that's just when the Kia boys strike.

43:03

Oh yeah, the Kia boys. We heard from another listener,

43:06

it was a very short one, but

43:08

that she lives in

43:11

the area where that's happening and her son

43:13

has a Kia and they won't give her

43:15

insurance. She can't get insurance

43:17

for it because like, I

43:19

guess it's like when I lived in Florida and I tried

43:21

to get insurance after a hurricane

43:24

warning was issued and they're like,

43:26

you gotta do this beforehand. We don't like

43:28

to do this after now that you think

43:30

there's a threat. But the Kia

43:32

boys are real man, and the other kind

43:34

of stuff, like you said, it's just crime for crime. So

43:36

they just busting up a bunch of cars for no

43:38

reason costing everybody else money. That's how you

43:40

know you go from like the cool kid

43:42

in the streets to the old person's like,

43:44

my insurance rates are gonna go up. Stop

43:46

stealing things, kids. But truly, that is where

43:48

my mind goes. But I'm glad nothing worse

43:50

than just some smash windows happened with your hatchet,

43:52

Liz, but what a pain in the ass, man.

43:55

And having to have a cop look at

43:57

you like, I will

43:59

be. I'm just gonna run

44:02

some things past my supervisor. You're

44:04

like, yes, yes, look on me in fear. Do it. Well,

44:08

thank you, Liz. Sinisterhood

44:12

will be right back. Some

45:17

next one is from Liv, and the

45:19

subject line is Big Foot Next Door.

45:21

Another one, they're coming in like hot

45:23

chicks now. You guys

45:25

are making my dreams come true. Liv

45:27

writes, Hi ladies, you said

45:29

you couldn't have too many Bigfoot stories,

45:31

so here's mine. I come

45:33

from a family of Bigfoot enthusiasts. We've

45:36

all seen the Bigfoot shows and read

45:38

many cryptid and creepy books. I

45:40

call my place Bigfoot Creek Farm, where a

45:43

Bigfoot cutout roams the property and the egg

45:45

cartons come decorated with a hand-painted Bigfoot. We

45:47

love the guy. Recently,

45:51

my parents were on vacation and made friends with

45:53

the people staying near them. They

45:55

were retired professors. The man

45:57

was some sort of science professor, I think. chemistry.

46:00

He's very proud of this story and

46:03

told my parents to quote, tell

46:05

everyone. Many

46:07

years ago, I think the 80s or 90s,

46:09

the man, we'll call him the professor, was

46:11

teaching at a school on a Native

46:13

American reservation in Washington. He had

46:16

a long commute to the school from the local town he

46:18

lived in. He described it as

46:20

driving down one mountain, through a valley

46:22

and up another mountain. He'd

46:24

been working at the school for a while and had a

46:26

good relationship with the people on the reservation. One

46:29

morning on his way to work, he was passing

46:31

over a bridge in the valley. As

46:34

he came up, he saw a large man

46:36

standing on the side of the road.

46:38

The professor slowed down and made eye contact with

46:41

the man. He said the

46:43

man was huge, broad

46:45

shoulders, extremely tall and

46:47

hairy. He was naked

46:50

except for a loincloth-like item around

46:52

his waist. After a

46:54

quick glance of eye contact, this mystery

46:56

man simply stepped over the guardrail and

46:59

disappeared into the woods. The

47:01

professor arrived at the school, still not believing

47:03

what he had seen. It wasn't

47:06

an ordinary man. It wasn't just a

47:08

large, burly guy roughing it in the

47:10

woods. It was something or

47:12

someone that the professor had never

47:14

seen before. The

47:17

professor spoke with some of the people on the reservation

47:19

about what he'd seen. Everyone knew

47:21

of the man or men that roamed the

47:23

woods near them. It was

47:25

understood that they left each other alone and

47:27

stayed in their own areas. That's

47:29

how it had always been. As

47:31

the professor described this to my parents, he

47:34

explained that it seemed that the tribe he

47:36

had worked with treated these large men as

47:38

a neighboring tribe, not interacting

47:40

much, just aware that the other

47:42

existed nearby. No negative

47:44

interactions. A while later, on the

47:47

same drive into school, the professor had

47:49

the same experience again in almost the

47:51

exact same spot. He

47:53

came down into the valley and saw the large

47:55

man near the road. As

47:58

the professor approached, the large man simply

48:00

disappeared into the woods. He

48:03

only taught at the tribe school for a few years

48:05

before moving away. He only had

48:07

these two interactions with what he thinks

48:09

was Bigfoot. What do you ladies

48:12

think? Is there a group of Bigfoots

48:14

living amongst us in the woods of Washington? Is

48:17

Bigfoot more of a giant man and some

48:19

furry bear like monster? Is the

48:21

professor just using his credibility as a doctor

48:23

of science to fool everyone he meets? My

48:27

family believes him and wants to

48:29

believe even more in a whole

48:31

tribe of respectable Bigfoots living peacefully

48:33

in the woods of Washington. I

48:35

unfortunately do not have photo proof of

48:38

the Bigfoot tribe but I've included

48:40

some pictures of my personal Bigfoot in

48:42

his Christmas attire protecting the chicken coop

48:44

and being the face of my farm.

48:48

Well thank you so much for the pictures. We

48:50

love a Bigfoot

48:53

Creek farm and yeah you gotta spruce

48:55

them up at Christmas time. All

48:57

the holidays really. Yeah I like

49:00

a shining lit Bigfoot. Well that

49:02

is fascinating to think of him

49:04

as a loincloth and

49:07

somewhat it's like a humanoid

49:10

which is what we hear. It's not like

49:12

full-on animal not like it's a person who

49:14

but it's kind of like like

49:16

understanding and enough of like you're

49:18

putting some clothes on. Mm-hmm yeah

49:21

like maybe more

49:24

cavemen era like this you know

49:26

not not as quite as

49:29

evolved as we are now but what I

49:31

really love is that you're like this

49:34

these Native Americans are like you know

49:36

what they keep to themselves we

49:38

do our thing and we're all just gonna coexist and

49:40

live in harmony we don't need to go over there

49:43

and poke the bear and try and run them

49:45

off or anything and that's how

49:47

we should all be right? Coexist in a

49:49

more peaceful way and not a way of

49:51

like we gotta go there and see what

49:53

the Bigfoots is up to. Yeah just

49:56

kind of they do their thing we do

49:58

our thing and never the tweeze. Wayne shall

50:00

meet and that's okay. So the

50:02

professor, maybe he was peekin', drivin'

50:04

in places he shouldn't have been and the Bigfoot's

50:06

like, what are you doin' over there? What's

50:09

up, what's up man? You wanna go to work?

50:12

What are you doin'? I

50:14

like that Liv calls them Bigfoots.

50:18

Yes. But then last week we had Big

50:20

Feet. Question mark. So, wait a

50:22

minute. Is a group of Bigfoot

50:24

just bigfoots? Big feet? Or

50:27

a whole other, you know, a gaggle, a

50:30

murder of Bigfoots? Yeah, we

50:32

need you all to decide. I think once and

50:34

for all and then we'll submit it to Merriam

50:36

Webster and we'll get it in the dictionary. Yeah,

50:39

we'll get them on the phone. Official plural-ness.

50:42

Well, thank you very much Liv for sharing

50:44

that and I agree with your family, I

50:46

believe. You know, there's no reason for you

50:48

to go, hey, it's

50:50

good to meet you guys. Where are you from? Oh, okay, cool. You

50:52

know what, I used to live in Washington State. You wouldn't hear

50:54

a story about the time I saw a Bigfoot.

50:57

And it's like, out of nowhere, I think he wanted to tell

50:59

a fellow believer because he knew, he knew

51:01

y'all would tell everyone. No

51:04

better way. I hope he only

51:06

goes by the professor of now on.

51:10

Yeah, if you're listening and your

51:12

dad or uncle or somebody had

51:14

this interaction and is a professor,

51:16

we want his perspective. Also, please

51:18

write it. Please, yeah, absolutely. Well,

51:20

thank you Liv. Sinisterhood

about anywhere. Well

52:28

this last one is from Lily and

52:30

the subject line is, The White Bluff

52:32

Screamer, My Town's Own Cryptid, or Haunting?

52:36

Hello everyone, I love the show so much

52:38

and have been trying to narrow down the perfect

52:40

story to submit. After trying to

52:42

narrow down the insane list from my haunted family

52:45

farm I grew up on, or my visit

52:47

to the Stanley Hotel that truly changed how

52:49

I view the paranormal, I

52:51

decided to write about my hometown's own

52:53

little cryptid, The White Bluff Screamer. I

52:55

hope you enjoy it. I

52:58

grew up on super old land in

53:00

middle Tennessee. My dad grew

53:02

up here and would tell me stories about

53:04

the supposed wolf man that would come in

53:06

on trains every night and howl at the

53:08

moon looking for his next victim. I had

53:11

no idea until I was much older that

53:13

the story on that one was from his

53:15

imagination. The man had some storytelling skills.

53:19

Tennessee is pretty well known for how haunted we are,

53:21

from Bigfoot sightings in the Smokies to the

53:24

infamous Belle Witch of Adams, Tennessee that

53:26

scared every single person in my elementary

53:28

school. This story though, I'm

53:30

about to tell you, originates in the small

53:32

town of White Bluff. The

53:34

details of the story change depending on who you're

53:36

talking to, but the creature and

53:39

its piercing screams remain the same.

53:42

It's the 1920s in rural Tennessee and the

53:44

chill of fall is lingering in the air.

53:46

It's Todd. No one knows his real name, so

53:48

let's call him Todd for the story. Todd

53:51

treks through the woods with his only

53:53

guide being the slices of moonlight through

53:55

the trees and the distant noise of

53:57

a high pitched scream that sounds eerily.

54:00

like a young girl that is probably just

54:02

a wounded animal. The noise

54:04

has persisted the last few nights and

54:06

Todd and his family have gotten almost

54:08

no sleep. His wife and

54:10

their seven children are huddled up at the

54:13

cabin while Todd is now determined to find

54:15

out just what this noise is with his

54:17

father's gun in his hand. Just

54:20

as he climbs out of a hollow, the screaming

54:22

stops. He had been

54:24

so close, what happened? He

54:26

tries to climb back down the hollow and trace his

54:28

steps when all of a sudden the scream

54:31

seems to be right where his home is. Only

54:34

now there isn't just one scream piercing

54:36

the night. He races back

54:38

to the cabin he and his family built, praying

54:40

the thoughts couldn't be true. The

54:42

screams couldn't be in the house, they just

54:44

couldn't. Todd reaches the front

54:46

door and every ounce of oxygen

54:48

he had escapes his lungs as his knees

54:50

hit the wood where his love once roamed.

54:53

His beautiful wife is in the corner covered

54:55

in blood still trying to defend their children,

54:58

but it is evident that they are all dead. Blood

55:01

is all over the walls and Todd races to his

55:03

wife to ask what happened. She's barely

55:05

hanging on and the only words she gets

55:08

out before succumbing to death are the

55:10

voice, the voice, it was

55:12

the screams, it was her, she

55:15

was here. Upon further

55:17

inspection, Todd sees his poor family shredded

55:20

to nothing in his home while he

55:22

was gone trying to protect them. This

55:26

is a story that was always told as the

55:28

origin of the screamer. I tried to

55:30

figure out more about what the screamer is. Is

55:32

it a person? Is it an animal

55:34

like cryptid? My town's website tells

55:36

the story of a man who was on a

55:39

camping trip with his family in the 1950s when

55:41

they heard the screams only to

55:43

find huge cat-like paw prints in the

55:45

mud. Other versions

55:47

of the story describe Todd, after finding his

55:49

family, going into the woods every night to

55:52

try to find the voice. One

55:54

night he comes upon an ethereal female

55:56

ghostly figure covered in white light. stop

56:00

and she floats away in blue flames

56:02

leaving fire in her wake. The

56:05

stories all differ, but maybe you

56:07

will never know if the White Bluff Screamer

56:09

is a cryptid-like monster or a woman in

56:11

white who is haunting the woods. I've

56:14

included some sources from my local news,

56:16

town websites, and an illustration of the

56:18

man running from the Screamer. Thanks

56:20

so much for reading, even if it doesn't make it on

56:22

the podcast. I love all the work you

56:24

ladies do and how you encourage everyone to be

56:27

their authentic self and do what makes them happy.

57:27

If you try to grab it, your hands will just

57:29

go right through it. Yeah, where it's like something that's

57:31

evil enough that can hurt you, but when you try

57:33

to go strike back you're like grabbing, you know,

57:36

you're throwing punches under water. You know, you're grasping

57:38

it and smoke wisps, essentially. But something

57:40

about the idea of like the

57:42

dark quietness of a forest and

57:44

just being cut through by a

57:46

sharp scream is it's so eerie.

57:48

And to think that any

57:50

time– It's terrifying. Yeah, any type of

57:53

scream where you're like, that was an animal and not

57:55

a person, right? It's

57:57

just like, I don't know how to open it.

58:00

you're like, what made it scream

58:02

like that? A bigger animal? A

58:04

person, a huge animal. But the giant

58:06

cat paw prints, we may be looking

58:08

at a Wampus cat situation coming up

58:10

through- Oh, where panther? Yeah, where panther,

58:12

Wampus cat, something like that coming up

58:14

through the, it's walks the Appalachian Trail

58:16

from the deep south on up. But

58:19

a big ass cat or a ghost

58:21

in the woods, I'm not trying to meet either of

58:23

those, honestly. No, no, it's like

58:25

the bear and the man. I don't want

58:28

either. If I have to

58:30

choose between a ghost and a cat, a

58:33

big cat, yeah. Oof. Well,

58:37

if it's a screamer, I think I'm going big

58:39

cat, but if it's just like a

58:41

regular ghost, I'll go ghost. Yeah, if it's a

58:44

fun friendly ghost, a catfish situation, I'm fine with

58:46

it. Yeah, we could have a fun time and

58:48

a fun romp through the woods. Yeah,

58:51

a freaking forest ghost, take you on like a

58:53

hike together. No, not a

58:55

scary screaming ghost, I'm not about that. But

58:57

that's a great question of these types of,

59:00

we often run into this and when we're researching to

59:02

do an episode on like say when we did the

59:04

Lady of the Lake, the Dallas based legend of like

59:06

there's 13 different, there's not a story.

59:09

Like we cover a trial, we can kind of go

59:11

and go, okay, here's the transcript of that. But folklore

59:13

like this is like, well, what is

59:15

it? And it's like, it's the screamer. It's like, so it's like

59:17

a lady or like a thing, it's like, you don't

59:19

want to meet the screamer in the woods. You're like,

59:21

yes, yes. But if I did. That's not the answer

59:23

though. Indeed, but if to prepare myself, I need to

59:25

know what it is precisely. That's why I asked so

59:27

many questions. They're like, by the time you

59:29

ask questions, screamers got you. Too late, it's too

59:31

late. That's what's interesting about storytelling

59:33

and folklore is it just morphs

59:36

and changes as the legend gets

59:38

passed on. And so what

59:41

starts off as like usually a cautionary tale

59:43

to keep kids inside so they don't go

59:45

out and get into all sorts of trouble,

59:48

ends up becoming like this thing

59:50

that's morphed into like the whole

59:52

family was taken from this man. And now

59:54

like, what does he do? He walks the

59:57

woods looking for this screamer. So now you

59:59

got him. the screamer both in the

1:00:01

woods yes now I don't get between him

1:00:03

and vengeance it's like why gonna why y'all

1:00:05

have beef with each other I've been to

1:00:07

none of you I'm just trying to hike

1:00:09

can I just go please you can't you

1:00:11

go she's a psycho I gotta go

1:00:14

team guy cuz I don't know until I know more

1:00:16

information the screamers like you don't know what he did

1:00:19

to these woods then you're like all right maybe I'm

1:00:21

team screamer I don't know yep yeah

1:00:23

we got sit down and have like a mediation

1:00:26

to find out like what is everybody's

1:00:28

side here there's three sides to every

1:00:30

story the screamers the man

1:00:32

and something in between is probably the

1:00:34

truth exactly we gotta we'll

1:00:36

get to the bottom of it for sure but

1:00:38

thank you so very much Lily for sending something

1:00:40

like this and this is the kind of stuff

1:00:42

we like to you know where it's like a

1:00:44

weird folklore that's just only known it's not weird

1:00:46

to you because you grew up there but like

1:00:49

it's such a cool like niche thing of where

1:00:51

you're from it's my favorite story so thank you

1:00:53

we had never heard of this one so we always love

1:00:55

to hear about urban legends and

1:00:57

lores like this so thank you so

1:00:59

much Lily and thank you to everybody

1:01:01

for sending in your freaky Friday stories

1:01:03

if you have an odd but true

1:01:05

story maybe you've encountered Bigfoot it seems

1:01:07

like we're getting some Bigfoot stories now

1:01:09

so they're coming we don't have a

1:01:11

buddy's light out everybody was a little

1:01:13

worried to admit that you seem Bigfoot

1:01:15

there's no shame in it get it

1:01:17

out yeah we're gonna now you have

1:01:20

like a support group that we can all so

1:01:22

far there's like four of you in it get

1:01:25

more we'll figure it out y'all can meet
