We talk about personas and getting into the mind of your customer today - the factors and features about them that will likely influence whether or not they buy from you. 

What types of factors? Things like gender, age, marital status, economic status, education level, geographic location, whether they have kids of not, whether they have pets or not, what type of transportation they use, etc. 

The reason why we need to understand our customers in this way, is because by knowing them, we can better talk to them and sell to them and ultimately, to serve them by providing them the value of our product or service in their lives. :-)
