Leslie Guyton is a Brooklyn-based director who makes work that cuts across both the theatrical and dance worlds. Not surprising, since Dance/Theatre pioneer Pina Bausch was one of her early heroes. I got to sit down with Leslie and discuss the importance of Pina bausch’s work to her own, as well as the importance of personal and artistic growth...how she keeps herself sharp.
Other topics we cover include:
the importance of work/life balance
how she knows if her work is “good”
the role of confidence in her work as a director
going back into the studio to take 15 dance classes/week!
her admiration for Anne Bogart’s artistry, humanity and discipline
“leaping” into commercial work
