Not being in the target audience, I didn't expect to like this, but it's really well-done and funny. The Dusty and Bob characters are especially hilarious. The writing is funny and not too irritatingly Australian or queer -- the expected group sex scene doesn't happen for at least a few episodes.
Raunchy, funny, and just pure fun
Starship Q Star is one of the funniest things I have ever heard. There are lots of queer jokes and Space jokes but the best ones are the subtle one liners, delivered with perfect comedic timing by the hilarious cast. The show has everything - a planet of the week format, cool alien biology, queer drama, love triangles, a ship computer, frappés. The characters are truly the hottest messes in Space and it's impossible to pick a favourite. If this show had existed when I was a baby gay, I think it would have altered the course of my life. The sound design is a lot of fun and the music absolutely SLAPS. I’m always so excited for a new release!
Starship Q Star is a breath of fresh air. Imagine The L Word did a brief but unforgettable crossover with Star Trek, and you’re somewhere in the right ballpark. This is by far the most a podcast has made me laugh out loud in a very long time. The writing itself is hilarious, but the delivery of the comedy in this show is what does it for me. This wonderfully queer cast is stock full of perfect comedic timing, each actor lending a unique voice to this cast of loveable and messy characters. It’s full of queer culture in-jokes, and has found a perfect balance between futuristic sci-fi and a grounded present-day feel to the characters and their jokes (the misogynistic General in particular had me in tears laughing). There are only a few episodes out at the moment, but I’m genuinely so excited to hear more from this show, it’s becoming a fast-favourite already.
THAT WAS CLASS! Starship Q Star should be your new favorite show. Clever jokes land with belly laughs. The humor is at times raunchy, at times weird and always wildly hilarious. The sound design and score are both top notch, the writing is phenomenal, and the performances are out-of-this-world good. The show and ship are both filled with fun characters and interpersonal dynamics, and I don’t mean to pick favorites or anything, but yes I will, I will pick favorites, and I will say that Mo might be — not only my favorite character on Starship Q Star — but also one of my favorite characters in all of audio fiction. This show was a ton of fun to listen to and that CLIFFHANGER!!! Bold, funny and absolutely wonderful.
