Obviously you can see their direct stake,

8:02

you can see the direct stake of the

8:04

United States and certainly Russia. Is

8:06

this an energy thing? Why

8:09

is the support of India-Brazil important just for

8:11

sort of moral support reasons or more than

8:14

that? Yeah, I think there are two. One

8:16

is the moral support, the political signaling to

8:18

show that Russia is isolated on the world

8:20

stage after it launched this. The second is

8:23

that Russia's economy is still humming along despite

8:25

tight western sanctions. And part of the reason

8:27

is that Russia has these big loopholes. It

8:32

can get money, it can get currency,

8:34

it can get equipment and supplies through

8:36

countries that haven't signed on to western

8:38

sanctions, such as the UAE, obviously big

8:40

financial hub and India. So getting them

8:42

on board to anything would be significant

8:44

to cutting off one more route for

8:46

Russia to try to subvert these sanctions.

8:48

Well, we're in the middle of an

8:50

election season, obviously. Here in this country,

8:52

we talk about the stakes of this

8:54

election all the time here on 1A.

8:57

And this week, two top Trump advisors

9:00

provided Donald Trump with a plan to

9:02

end Russia's war in Ukraine if he wins in 2024.

9:05

Now, this involves refusing weapons

9:07

to Ukraine until it agrees to enter

9:09

peace talks with Russia, kind of forcing

9:11

their hand to come to the table

9:13

with the country that invaded them. What

9:16

would be the stakes, the implications of an approach like

9:18

this to the war? Well, the other

9:21

side of that agreement is, this

9:23

was put forward by two of Trump's

9:25

top national security advisors, is

9:27

on the campaign right now, is we

9:30

would cut off weapons

9:32

to Ukraine if Ukraine didn't sit down for

9:34

negotiations with Russia. But the flip side is,

9:37

if Russia didn't sit down, if it didn't

9:39

negotiate in good faith, then the Trump administration

9:41

could flood Ukraine with weapons on its own.

9:44

And so there's a lot of unease, there's

9:46

a lot of anxiety in Europe, especially in

9:48

Ukraine, about what a second Trump term would

9:50

mean for Ukraine for this war. But

9:53

the short answer is, Trump is still a wild card.

9:55

We still don't know, he still hasn't said. And of

9:57

course, as we learned from the first four years. His

10:00

advisors can all say one thing but

10:02

the second he tweets something else, you

10:04

know that becomes policy And so it's

10:06

still a big what-if right now hanging

10:09

over the heads of Europe. That's Robbie

10:11

Grammer national security reporter for foreign policy

10:13

Robbie, we really appreciate your expertise. Thanks

10:15

for joining us. Thanks for having me

10:17

We have some news from the Supreme

10:19

Court issuing decisions Currently

10:22

in a victory for the Biden administration

10:24

The United States Supreme Court has reversed

10:26

a lower court ruling that had placed

10:28

significant restrictions on government officials ability to

10:31

communicate With social

10:33

media companies regarding their content moderation

10:35

policies The court didn't decide the

10:37

question of what precisely constitutes permissible

10:40

contacts between the executive branch Itch

10:42

officials and social media companies instead

10:45

by a vote of six to

10:47

three the court ruled that those

10:49

challenging the government's Interaction with social

10:52

media companies lacked legal standing to

10:54

sue It's an important

10:57

ruling that has implications on

10:59

what many especially many on the

11:01

right thought was government attempts at censorship

11:04

During the kovat era and the attempts

11:06

of the Biden administration to help make

11:09

sure that good information About

11:11

kovat not disinformation was going out over

11:13

social media So again, that's a six

11:15

six three ruling written by Justice Amy

11:17

Coney Barrett the court ruling that those

11:19

suing the Biden administration On

11:22

this question did not have legal standing and

11:24

a victory there for the Biden

11:26

administration We'll have more news from the court as

11:28

it comes out today and over the next couple

11:30

of days Coming up

11:32

grief is an experience that

11:35

we all face But humans aren't the only

11:37

species that mourn and we're gonna talk about

11:39

how animals grieve and what that can teach

11:41

us about our own relationship with

11:44

death it's coming up next I'm Todd

11:46
