1:49

This is Dr. Joy Harden Bradford from

1:51

Therapy for Black Girls. There

1:53

are millions of books on Amazon, so

1:56

there's a reading feeling for everyone. So if

1:58

you're after that excited, Haha! Feeling

2:01

like when you discover you have a

2:03

lot in common with Vikings or something,

2:05

Amazon has books for you. Or maybe

2:07

you enjoy the sort of nervous, ha

2:09

ha, that comes when the hero barely

2:11

escapes the zombies. Or maybe you like

2:13

the smug, ha ha, that comes

2:16

when the villain gets what he deserves, you

2:18

know? Amazon has it all. Amazon

2:21

Books. That reading feeling awaits.

2:24

Moments like seeing my son's team

2:26

cheer him on mean a lot

2:28

to me, but after being diagnosed with

2:30

metastatic breast cancer, or MBC, which is

2:32

breast cancer that has spread to

2:34

other parts of the body, they mean

2:37

even more. I take iBrants. Palbocyclip.

2:39

iBrants' 125mg tablets with an aromatase inhibitor

2:41

is for adults with HR-positive HER2-negative

2:43

MBC as the first hormonal-based therapy. Ask

2:45

your doctor about iBrants and visit

2:47

ibrants.com. iBrants may cause

2:50

low white blood cell counts that may lead to

2:52

serious infections. iBrants may cause severe

2:54

inflammation of the lungs. Both of these

2:56

can lead to death. Tell your doctor

2:58

right away if you have new or

3:00

worsening symptoms, including trouble breathing, shortness of

3:02

breath, cough, or chest pain. Before taking

3:04

iBrants, tell your doctor if you have

3:07

fever, chills, or other signs of infection,

3:09

liver or kidney problems, are or plan

3:11

to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Common

3:13

side effects include low red blood cell

3:15

and low platelet counts, infections, tiredness, nausea,

3:17

sore mouth, abnormalities in liver blood tests,

3:19

diarrhea, hair thinning or loss, vomiting, rash,

3:21

and loss of appetite. I'm

3:27

here for those who really

3:29

believe in the American

3:32

process, all of us. All

3:43

right, what's happening everybody? It's

3:51

me, Tesla Figaro, Straight Shot, no chaser. Straight

3:54

Shot, but I have a little bit of some

3:57

type of congestion or cold or I don't what is trying

3:59

to figure out, figure out what it's trying to do. I

4:01

don't know if my throat wants to be sore or don't

4:03

want to be sore. If it's just a sinus or,

4:06

um, if I'm coming on with a full

4:08

cold, but nothing stops, uh,

4:10

the straight shot, no chaser podcast. So we are

4:12

here. Um, I call her

4:14

Jade Harrell is with me again, as we

4:17

go through these stories, so much has

4:19

been going on. Jade. Uh, I

4:21

know we had a hard time figuring out what

4:23

to talk about because there's so much, there's so

4:26

much drama, drama on the political side, drama

4:29

on the pop culture side, just

4:31

drama, drama, drama, drama. And

4:33

we're going to do our best to get through some

4:35

of this, uh, right off the top. So

4:37

how are you, Jay? I'm doing well

4:39

Taz. I'm just a little concerned. Did

4:41

you catch some cooties from a specific

4:45

energy at the party? I'm

4:49

hoping not. I don't know. I don't know if it's because I

4:51

was in three different cities

4:54

in the last two or three days, uh,

4:57

flying. I did get on spirit

4:59

airlines. Uh, you know, that's allegedly for

5:01

bid, but let's take a pause. Cause you know, I'm

5:04

I'm a loyal, I'm very loyal to Southwest and in

5:06

the end, but they talk about me a lot. They

5:08

say it's a bus in the sky, but

5:10

I actually, uh, this was my second time flying

5:13

spirit and it was pretty, it was decent. I

5:15

didn't like, I had to make a change and

5:17

I wasn't able to make a change. So I

5:19

lost my money for that. So getting ahold of

5:21

customer service is damn near impossible with spirit. But

5:24

other than that, it got me to

5:26

point a point B much cheaper. I got the

5:28

big seat in the front. It's kind of off

5:30

subject, but I got the big seat in the

5:32

front and it wasn't a bad experience. That's

5:35

interesting because I saw an article today about spirit

5:37

airlines. They're trying to get rid of some of

5:39

their junk fees so that more people will fly

5:42

spirit airlines, but yeah, I kind of agree with

5:44

Charlamagne and envy. It is

5:46

a bus in the sky. I think I found it one

5:48

time. I don't know if I would do it again. I'm

5:50

a little boozy when it comes to flying. What you didn't

5:53

like about it though, like the planes are new on the

5:55

inside. It's definitely, it looks better than

5:57

Southwest on the inside. As far as I'm concerned, like

5:59

I'm trying to figure out. bougie about what? Like what

6:02

what are y'all looking for? I don't like that

6:04

yes you gotta pay for water you gotta

6:06

pay for water and snacks. But I guess I

6:08

don't really want water and snacks so it really

6:10

didn't make no difference to me but I'm trying

6:13

to figure out like what is it that

6:15

I will say I do like Delta because they

6:17

have the plugs for my phone

6:19

but I always have a portable charger. So

6:22

is this just a mental thing that we're talking

6:24

about? Because you still arrive at the

6:26

same place, the same airplane, same location

6:28

as all these other airlines. So what's

6:31

the deal? It may

6:33

be the caliber of people maybe I you know I'm just

6:35

a little bit bougie but I've

6:38

seen a lot on Spirit and those seats I mean

6:40

I'm glad you got a seat in the front because

6:42

those seats in the back be cramped. So

6:45

that's just like I mean I guess all

6:47

the seats be cramped. They are a little harder I

6:49

would say that. They're a little harder than Southwest. People

6:51

don't, I like Southwest. The reason why I like Southwest

6:53

is because it's very easy no

6:56

change fees, same

6:58

day change. I get points

7:01

and so I use my everyday purchases like

7:03

for everything I do for Southwest points. So

7:05

I literally don't pay to fly anywhere. Everywhere

7:07

I fly is very rare but if I

7:09

fly is five dollars and sixty cents. Southwest

7:13

has the best and this was not with

7:15

this podcast about which I'll give this additional

7:17

information. Southwest has the best rewards program. I

7:19

also have an American Express with Delta. So

7:22

I use my card with Delta but to

7:25

get a one-way ticket somewhere with Delta it's

7:27

like 27,000 points that I need. A

7:30

one-way ticket on Southwest anywhere is

7:32

about 6,000 points. So from 12 to

7:34

14,000, 16,000 I can get around your ticket anywhere and I just

7:36

can't get

7:40

that with Delta. Delta makes you go through way

7:42

too much to finally get you know

7:45

points. So I'm all about killing

7:47

two birds one stone. If I use my credit

7:50

card even if I'm getting charged interest I look

7:52

at that as paying for a plane ticket. So

7:55

I'm all about the win-win and Southwest really

7:57

does have the best reward program out of all

7:59

of them. seating

18:00

18:03

moonroof. Everyone can enjoy

18:05

the journey and so can the

18:07

scenery of the great outdoors. Plus

18:09

18:11

18:14

an available intelligent four-wheel drive feature

18:16

with seven drive modes, you can

18:18

take your favorite toys while adventuring

18:20

on new terrains. Seize the thrill

18:22

and then weed it. That begins

18:25

with financial literacy. State Farm helps

18:27

fund programs like Project Ready, a

18:29

National Urban League program committed to

18:31

the educational achievement of black and

18:33

brown youth. To date, participants have

18:35

been awarded over 11 million dollars

18:38

in scholarships offers as a direct result

18:40

of contributions from State Farm. At Eating

18:42

Wall Broke, we hear inspiring rags to

18:45

riches stories on each episode from our

18:47

guests, but with State Farm, you can

18:49

begin to write your own success story.

18:51

State Farm believes that being better neighbors

18:54

19:46

Your brand new home should be just

19:48

that. New. At Fisher Homes, you can

19:52

19:54

19:57

2024 be the year that you stepped

19:59

into that. on

22:00

everywhere and we were just trying to pull from

22:02

people and Topher actually was at the party, the

22:04

one with the red hat, he was actually at

22:06

the party next door and he said, hey, I'll

22:08

stop by just for a minute and

22:10

just kind of tap in. He ended up staying the entire

22:13

time and we put him on the couch. So

22:15

it just proved that, you know, this really

22:17

does work. I want more of it.

22:19

I love it more of it. And

22:22

so let's keep it going. So young thugs, dad was

22:24

there to answer your question. Um, you

22:26

know, they told me he was in the room. I asked,

22:28

you know, if you want to say anything. I

22:30

do appreciate his spokesperson. Um, they got up and

22:32

spoke for him, but I really wanted to hear, you

22:35

know, from him and his statement

22:37

was very powerful. Whether people believe that a

22:39

young thug is guilty or not guilty or

22:41

whatever it was to hear his father, hear

22:44

the father say and call out, you know,

22:46

NAACP right there saying, I have contacted you

22:48

guys and you guys have not been responsive.

22:51

Those are the kinds of conversations. See, that's when

22:53

the comment section gets real, Jay, when you able

22:55

to, that's what I love when you able to

22:57

be who you are and say it directly, not

22:59

in the comments. I don't like that

23:01

NAACP was said directly NAACP attorney Greg's y'all haven't

23:04

been responsive with attorney Greg sitting right there. That's

23:06

the type of dialogue that we need. You notice

23:08

the other young lady that said, well, I don't

23:10

really want to say no names. Remember, I went

23:12

on that big long rant about saying names at

23:15

some point, you got to be all right with saying

23:17

names. Speaking of that, not transitioning too

23:19

far. I don't respect any of these Democrats,

23:21

these anonymous Democrats that are sitting up and

23:24

talking about Joe Biden need to sit down.

23:26

Who are these people that they talking about,

23:28

Jay? When I was saying and others were

23:31

saying a few years ago that you should

23:33

have an open primary to run against Joe

23:35

Biden, people killed me for that. They said,

23:37

Oh, you're helping Republicans, helping Republicans, helping Republicans.

23:40

And now in the 12th hour, in

23:42

the 12th hour, now y'all saying, Oh, we need

23:44

to replace Joe Biden, anonymous sources. Who are these

23:46

sources? I have to say it with your name,

23:48

with your chest and staying on business or say

23:50

nothing at all. I don't respect it, Jay. I

23:52

really don't. Yeah,

23:54

it was beautiful to see all those black folks

23:57

in this space having the

23:59

dialogues. and being willing to sit

24:02

in their discomfort in a moment and to

24:04

really push through, because everybody there, in

24:07

my opinion, I think most people were there

24:09

in the spirit of black progress, black empowerment,

24:12

empowering the black voter as opposed to just

24:16

telling black folks what to do and how

24:18

to think. So you definitely gave us a

24:20

lot to think about. And since the debate

24:22

night, yes, the big conversation is whether Joe

24:24

Biden is competent or not, whether he should

24:26

step down and have a seat. And

24:29

folks are saying it's too late for that.

24:31

But yeah, if you all would have

24:33

just spoken about the

24:36

debate, it would have been about, yep, Trump is

24:38

lying, Biden, Biden

24:40

is slurring his words or whatever. Right,

24:44

and nothing comes out of that. So I'm

24:46

excited about it. People can have a different

24:48

opinion about it. I'm excited about it. I'm

24:50

excited to do more. Atlanta, get ready. I'm

24:53

getting ready to be organized in Atlanta. Jay, you attended,

24:55

pushed the line. I'm excited about that. The studio, they

24:57

said I can have any time to do whatever I

24:59

want to do. We can't get 300

25:01

people in there at a time, but certainly 40, 50 people

25:03

at a time to

25:05

specifically be focusing on Gen Z. Let's

25:08

get these organizers prepared. When

25:11

we talk about project 2025, $21

25:14

million is being spent to organize, recruit,

25:16

and train elected leaders, whether Trump gets

25:18

in or not. This is what I

25:20

need people to understand. This is not

25:22

just, because if you go with that

25:24

talking point, this is a Trump gets

25:26

elected. This is what

25:28

they're going to do. Then the counter is Trump didn't

25:31

even put that out. That's not a part of the

25:33

campaign. Like Amber Rose said that Trump, that don't have

25:35

nothing to do with Trump. Y'all being misled. No, no,

25:37

let's lead the people the correct way. This is a

25:39

movement that they're doing with or without Trump. Recruiting training

25:42

leaders that are in line with

25:44

this guideline. This is how they've been successful

25:47

with getting judges in Supreme Court. And this

25:49

is why they've been able to take over being

25:51

the minority in the country. And so I

25:53

just want to make sure I'm doing my

25:55

small part as an independent, I'm not a Democrat

25:57

or Republican. Most of the policies I believe in

26:00

that which is the safety net to take

26:02

care of the lease of these does fall

26:04

on the liberal side. And I'm not going to

26:06

make any apologies about that at all. Doesn't

26:08

mean I don't have any moderate or conservative views. But

26:11

I am in policies because I'm concerned about

26:13

those that don't have. So everybody is concerned.

26:16

Some people get their self interest and that's totally fine.

26:18

And there are some people that look at a community,

26:21

the community and what's going to best serve the community. Matter

26:23

of fact, I explained it to my best friend of the day. She

26:25

was trying to tell her son, she said, well, I can't tell him,

26:27

you know, it's about the community is about the community. And

26:30

I was telling I told her that's not landing with

26:32

him. He said he don't want to vote based on

26:34

being black. And I said, you have to be OK

26:36

with people being self interest, but you have

26:38

to show that your self interest is included

26:41

in that black community. You are still a

26:43

young black man. So you still have to

26:45

look at those policies, but be OK with

26:47

something just because you want to be self

26:49

sacrificial and sacrifice everything for everybody else like

26:51

me. Doesn't mean that everybody moves

26:53

like that. Some people are really going to vote

26:56

based on their self interest. And that's how it

26:58

should be. And for those of us that say

27:00

I'm concerned about mass incarceration, I'm concerned about mass

27:02

incarceration, but I've never been arrested. I don't have

27:04

a felony record. I haven't had any of those

27:06

challenges, but I'm concerned about it and motivates me.

27:09

So everybody has to figure out what

27:12

their motivation is. How can they get involved? And so

27:14

I'm going to do my part in

27:16

being Atlanta. Georgia is a

27:18

swing state. It's very important. And I just want

27:20

to be able when it's done, Jay, to say,

27:22

OK, I was here. You know, we did something

27:25

that I can do. Little old me not funded

27:28

by an organization is getting this done, but we

27:30

just needed the space. And so since

27:32

they're allowing me that space, I'm going to take advantage

27:34

of it and do what I can because people have

27:36

been asking for their training again. I'm

27:38

excited about that. Yeah.

27:42

Well, this ended up being an entire podcast about

27:44

the debate recap, which is great. Guys,

27:46

I do want to dig in deeper to talk

27:49

about Biden and staying

27:51

in the race and what that looks like. I

27:54

also want to talk, Jay, a little bit about immunity

27:57

that Trump was granted. Uh,

28:00

it's actually partial immunity. Some people are calling

28:02

it full of minutes. Some people call it

28:04

partial. Bottom line is it's still immunity. That

28:06

basically saying to the president do whatever hell

28:08

they want. As long as it's an official

28:10

act, the lower courts would determine what is

28:12

an official act. Um, but his

28:14

lawyers are definitely lawyering. Um, so

28:16

I want to talk about that next. So guys, if

28:18

you are listening, make sure you listen to the second

28:20

episode this week, because we're going to get into that.

28:22

We're going to talk a little bit about, uh, Joe

28:24

Biden. Uh, and again, people

28:27

want him to get out. I'm going to tell you why it

28:30

makes no sense for him to get out. Not

28:32

that he shouldn't get out because he should, should have

28:34

got out two years ago, but this is where

28:36

we are. And I'm going to break down why

28:39

it's not going to happen and why I believe

28:41

the media is just gas lighting, just for the

28:43

clicks and the quote unquote alleged

28:45

consultants, they're just putting their name after to say,

28:47

so that in case Trump wins, they want to

28:50

be able to say, I told you so. And

28:52

so I don't respect it because they could have

28:54

did this two or three years ago. So we're

28:56

going to talk about that in the second episode

28:58

guys, uh, this week.

29:00

So make sure you tap into the next straight

29:03

shot, no chaser, uh, with husband figure on J

29:05

her rail, and then we're going to get into

29:07

some of this other messy stuff, guys. I know

29:09

y'all saw Rick Ross security getting beat down. So

29:11

we got, we got the, I

29:13

was kind of ready to talk about that today, but

29:15

yeah, we should definitely, uh, gotta hit on that this

29:17

week. Got to, we want to talk about that right

29:19

quick, but I just brought it up. The clothes. Yeah.

29:23

So unfortunately Rick Ross

29:26

was assaulted on Sunday night after performing

29:28

at Ignite music festival

29:30

in Vancouver, British, British

29:33

Canada, BC in Canada. All right.

29:35

I've never been to Canada, but shout out to Canada.

29:37

I guess, uh, the video footage

29:39

show Rick Ross being sucker punched. You know,

29:41

Rick Ross is a big dude. He was

29:43

sucker punch and it sparked a brawl possibly

29:46

related to ongoing fuse, presumably with Drake in

29:48

the music industry. Why is it possibly, they

29:50

was very clear. Oh no, that was, that

29:52

was my language. I'm

29:54

just protecting everything, you know. Okay. Yeah. Cause

29:56

there was, there was crystal clear. They said,

29:59

turn that song off and that was that.

30:01

Yeah, they definitely did. I'm erring on the

30:03

side of caution. I don't know, but feel

30:05

free to chime in. Despite the

30:08

incident, Rick Ross told TMZ that no

30:10

serious injuries were sustained and

30:13

he expressed a positive outlook. Going

30:16

back to Vancouver, if I were him, I

30:19

don't know if I was possibly related to

30:21

ongoing feuds, presumably with Drake in the music

30:23

industry. Why they say possibly? They

30:25

was very clear. Oh, no, that was my

30:28

language. I'm just protecting

30:30

everything. Oh, okay. Yeah, there was a group

30:32

of crystal clear. They said turn that song

30:34

off and that was that, but go ahead.

30:36

Yeah, they definitely did. I'm erring on the

30:39

side of caution. I don't know, but feel

30:41

free to chime in. Despite the incident, Rick

30:43

Ross told TMZ that no

30:45

serious injuries were sustained and

30:48

he expressed a positive outlook. Going

30:51

back to Vancouver, if I were him, I don't

30:53

know if I would want to go back, but

30:55

okay, that was really embarrassing. So following the incident,

30:57

of course, 50 Cent has something to say. They

31:01

say he marked Rick Ross on Instagram. At

31:03

first, I mean, I thought 50 was

31:05

being sincere. He said he was glad that they got out.

31:08

But this is a thing. Of

31:11

course, the internet sleuths are on the

31:13

job and they took photos and they

31:15

started to try to identify some of

31:17

these white attackers that attacked Rick Ross

31:19

and his body

31:22

detail. So one of the

31:24

guys had on a red bandana and

31:26

a t-shirt and folks are saying that

31:28

that is the regalia of the

31:31

Vancouver Hells Angels. This is the part where we

31:33

definitely want to be heavy on the alleged. Like we

31:35

don't know this for certain. Yeah,

31:37

that's why I say internet sleuths are

31:39

saying this. And so people are starting

31:41

rumors and they're trying to draw correlations

31:44

between the rapper Drake as

31:46

well as this particular biker gang. So

31:48

we don't know. But right now what

31:50

I'm hearing on Black Twitter is that

31:52

Rick Ross was allegedly attacked by some

31:55

suspected white supremacists. What I do know

31:57

is that Rick Ross also made

32:00

a post or, you know, he seems like

32:02

he says he's okay. He seems to be

32:04

unbothered, but I was just, what is post

32:06

on slow down? What is post? Uh,

32:09

it was a video. I have to pull it up. Like

32:11

did he address it? Yeah, he addressed it. He said he was,

32:13

he said he was fine. He was a, he took, he took

32:15

a, it was an image of him in front of a

32:18

private jet laughing at off saying

32:20

that he was, he was fine. Yeah, but

32:22

we didn't see you, but I mean, but we

32:25

did, your security kind of did, they weren't security.

32:27

I mean, that's, I mean,

32:29

I was, I was sure I couldn't believe like

32:31

it was so easy to, you know, to

32:33

get at them like that. So hopefully this is

32:35

a learning lesson and he will tighten up on his

32:37

security. Um, but yeah,

32:39

that, that was really unfortunate over playing that song.

32:42

You know, they not like that. So man, cover

32:44

say don't don't come over here playing that mess.

32:46

They don't want to hear that's it.

32:48

They don't want to hear that. It's hard. It's tough

32:50

watching your favorite get dragged all over the country, you

32:53

know, for the song of the year. I mean,

32:55

literally drag everybody. You got even, you had BP

32:57

Harris saying it in our

32:59

recap. I

33:01

was like, what? Like from the

33:03

toddlers all the way to the white house. I mean, this

33:05

is, this has never happened in the history of B. So

33:09

yeah, they, they was probably feeling the weight

33:11

about it. They were definitely feeling the way about it.

33:13

Well, I listened to as you know, Rick Ross

33:16

put out several posts and videos when the

33:18

whole back and forth was going on between

33:20

Drake and Kendrick and he was laughing. Of

33:22

course he was laughing at Drake. He was

33:24

trolling Drake. And to see him

33:26

get beat down like that to me was

33:28

like really embarrassing. Third

33:30

year you had second party. Yeah.

33:33

I just felt bad for it. I'm like, dang,

33:35

I love me some good boss too, but that

33:37

was not a good look. His whole security detail.

33:39

I don't know if they, you know, friends, family,

33:41

whoever they are, they definitely need some

33:44

training and maybe even some martial arts training or

33:46

for some type of something. Cause that not working.

33:50

Mm-hmm. Well, just

33:52

go to show you, they was letting you know, they ain't like

33:54

us either. They said, whatever y'all like, they ain't like either. So

33:57

again, this is real. See people don't understand. you

34:00

know, I remember the 90s in the pocket

34:02

in the biggie. People take this shit to

34:04

heart. So people got to be careful. Remember

34:06

I told you on this show when I said

34:08

everybody at the sea walking and be walking and

34:11

you aren't really living their life and all

34:13

you got to be careful with some of

34:15

this because some people really believe this shit now.

34:17

So just be careful. You can't go a

34:19

mile. I mean, not a block jade in

34:21

LA that this song is not played like literally

34:23

at every stop sign, every stoplight everywhere. I

34:25

mean, it is literally the anthem of the

34:27

west coast that we've been waiting. It hasn't been

34:30

like this since California love where you just heard

34:32

like back to back to back, no matter where you are.

34:34

So people just got to be careful with this and the

34:36

energy that comes with this song. So be

34:38

careful. Be safe out there guys and be careful because

34:40

it ain't a song. Everybody's some real feelings that

34:42

got hurt behind this dish. So we

34:46

got that on out the way guys had a little bit of petty

34:48

throwing in the show. Make sure you tap
