Welcome to the 4th and final part of our series on Meaning/Purpose!  In this episode, we plumb the depths of existential angst, examine the stepping-stone of "purpose" for finding meaning in life, and implicitly sketch out a dynamic systems framework for conceptualizing WHO YOU ARE, and therefore, what it "means" to be you.  Dipping into the Tao Te Ching, the Bible, Buddhism, and stealing shamelessly from the Stoics, deep ecologists, and probably some others, we finally, finally, get to "The Meaning Of Life" (said in James Earl Jones' voice...hahaha).

I hope you enjoy this and find it helpful.  Personally, I feared Death and non-being for most of my life.  And now I don't.  Truly.  There are a few different things that have helped me with that, and some of it at least, is captured here.

Peace.

Tearing Down Walls: Personal Thoughts from Dan Dolderman

Do you yearn to feel more authentic, more connected to people, and simply more free? Do you wish you were living like the shopping bag and Instagram sayings tell you to? Do you wish that, somehow, you could "let go" and live from the heart? Do you feel, far too often, like you're "not enough", and wish you could FINALLY be happy with yourself, just as you are? Do you worry about the state of the world, and fear that humanity is going to spiral out of control? So, let's rise. Let's rise, and grow into our loving, strong, courageous, warrior selves. Let's shake off our complacency and fears and embrace THIS LIFE. Let's create lives of joy and connection, spiritual sincerity, playfulness, and depth. Let's reinvent our communities and live again like it's "the good ol' days" when people still reached out and helped each other. Let's go deep and heal from the traumas we've carried around for so many years. Let's talk about joy. Personal growth. Meaning. Love. Strong family bonds. Creative flourishing. And good times. That's what this podcast is all about, the journey to better selves, and a better world. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Dr. Dan Dolderman is a Psychologist, Father, Dungeon Master, Complex Systems junkie and lover of the great outdoors. For many years, he has studied and worked at the intersection of personal growth, wellness, ecological issues and the need for urgent societal transformation. It is often difficult to communicate the linkages between our own individual concerns about life, and our societal and global challenges. But it's super-important to do so, because becoming our "best selves", living our "best lives", and contributing to a "better world" are inseparable challenges, and the journey towards any one of them is the journey towards all. So, come back every week for a new episode! We'll be covering trauma and healing, psychology, mental illness and social support, parenting, climate change and activism, meditation and spirituality, and both cutting edge and age-old techniques and practices for being the kind of person you want to be, living the kind of life you want to live, and helping to create the kind of abundant, beautiful world you want to live in. Oh. And let's laugh about all this (at least sometimes!). Because if you can't laugh, then really, what's the point?
