When I want to learn about something I want to learn from someone who is an authority on the subject. As someone with a science background, it irks me to listen to influencers and "beauty professionals" who may have done a lot of trial and error with products but who don't have any training on reducing bias in their assessment of products, have significant incentives to be biased to earn money through sponsorships, and don't have significant training on how to make product recommendations that are not just helpful for their skin or people they know but can genuinely make generalizable claims. I appreciate dermatologists and take their opinions into consideration, especially to cross-reference with chemists, but ultimately, I favor the opinions of cosmetic chemists in the world of skincare science. They are the ones who understand the weird and nuanced world of cosmetic formulations and cosmeceuticals from within the industry. As such, I appreciate the Beauty Brains and their perspective quite a bit, however, this podcast really tests my patience. Quite frankly I rarely listen to it unless I'm particularly fixated on skincare at the moment because of how much they ramble and lack focus. Chemist Confessions is my top podcast recommendation for skincare science for this reason but if you can't get enough of skincare content The Beauty Brains is an honorable mention.
