0:38

Dragon Highlander. Enjoy your

0:41

0:44

and welcome back to another episode of the Command

0:46

Zone podcast. I'm your host, Rachel Weeks, and today

0:48

we have a special guest joining us. It's your

0:52

friend and mine, Ashlyn Rose. Hey,

0:54

what's up, everyone? Thanks for having me back. I'm

0:56

excited to be here. We're excited to have you

0:58

back. And of course, we're upgrading

1:00

the Eldrazi pre-con for Modern Horizons 3.

1:03

We were like, who else can we

1:06

have but Ashlyn to come talk Eldrazi

1:08

with me? We're gonna

1:10

be upgrading the five-color, almost

1:12

six-color Eldrazi incursion pre-con for

1:15

Modern Horizons 3. We're

1:17

gonna tell you what 10 cards you can add

1:19

to the deck to get it in peak fighting

1:21

shape, what 10 cards to cut to make

1:23

room for those new cards, and we're gonna use a

1:25

budget of $50. On top

1:28

of all that, we're gonna go through the financial stats.

1:30

We're gonna go through the mechanical stats. We're getting the

1:32

best cards in the deck. But first, if you wanna

1:34

pick up any of the cards that we are talking

1:36

about today, if you wanna pick up this sealed deck,

1:38

if you wanna pick up any of the Modern Horizons

1:40

3 decks behind me, go

1:42

to cardkingdom.com/command, and you can support the

1:45

show while you're doing so. They have

1:47

a huge selection of singles and sealed

1:49

product. If you're as excited about Modern

1:51

Horizons 3 as I am, you're probably

1:54

buying a little bit of sealed product, but you

1:56

can wait to and get all of the singles

1:58

that you're looking for. the

4:00

public actually sees it. So

4:02

come be a part of our QC process.

4:05

Well, there's also turns talks, too, right? Yeah, yeah.

4:07

At Certain Tears, you get access to exclusive content

4:09

like turn talk, where we

4:11

have a conversation after every game of extra

4:14

turns where we're just like, how did the

4:16

game go? How did your deck perform? I

4:18

totally punted, and I get to explain why.

4:20

What happened? Yeah, it's the behind

4:22

the scenes thinking of how the game went.

4:25

I love talking about, oh, this card was great. I think I'm

4:27

going to find another card like this, or I'm going to take

4:29

this card out. It was very bad. Yes. It's

4:32

a fun conversation, and you can only get access to that

4:34

at Certain Tears of being a patron. Plus,

4:37

we shout out one lucky patron

4:39

every single podcast episode, and this

4:41

one is dedicated to Jaden

4:44

Soren. Jaden, you

4:47

rock. You freaking rock. Your last name's

4:49

Soren. That's pretty good. This should be

4:51

the vampire episode, but it's not. I'm

4:53

sorry, Soren. Truly random. We

4:57

don't have any patrons with the last name, Ulamog, unfortunately.

4:59

Darn it. Someday.

5:01

Someday. The Ulamog family will

5:03

find us. We can all go. All

5:08

right, let's get into it. This is a sweet, this

5:10

is our second

5:13

Eldrazi pre-con. And

5:15

this time, we are in five

5:18

colors. Five colors. Which is distinctly more

5:20

colors than Eldrazis are used to. Yes,

5:22

it's all five. We

5:25

went from zero to all the colors. All

5:27

of the colors here. It's

5:30

pretty sweet. I mean, before we

5:32

get into the face and backup commander,

5:34

I want to talk about this, because I do

5:36

think it's kind of interesting. What

5:38

is the difference between building

5:40

like a fully colorless Eldrazi

5:42

deck and building a five

5:45

color Eldrazi deck? Yeah, it is

5:47

interesting, because with all the colors,

5:49

you have more options for ramp

5:52

and need for them as well.

5:54

You're not reliant on solely

5:57

artifacts and big. higher

6:00

mana value things. That

6:03

was the most interesting thing about this is I

6:05

do think this deck really did stick to the

6:07

Eldrazi theme. We've got a lot

6:09

of like traditional Eldrazi removal spells in here, but

6:11

you are in five colors. You could put swords

6:13

to Plowshares in this deck. And

6:16

it feels a little different than we're used to

6:18

when you're building an Eldrazi deck, but you do

6:20

have access to the traditional staples that are just

6:23

available in five color decks. Of

6:26

course you have to make a lot more space

6:28

for fixing. Yeah. Previously Eldrazi get to have all

6:31

of the utility lands. Yes. Just

6:33

so much utility. Any utility land you

6:36

can think of, any utility artifact you can think

6:38

of. And it's a little bit of a higher

6:40

cost when you're building with

6:42

all five colors. But I do

6:44

think, we'll get into it a little bit, but I do

6:46

think that this has a pretty good

6:49

mana base for being a pre-con five

6:51

color, six color mana base. Yeah,

6:53

I was pleasantly surprised by this. When I first saw

6:55

it, I was like, I don't know. And then when

6:57

you sit down with it, you're like, oh, oh,

7:00

this has something to it. And it's not. It

7:02

actually works. Yeah. It's pretty

7:04

shocking. So I'm pleasantly

7:06

surprised with that. But without any

7:09

further ado, let's get into the

7:12

face commander and find out

7:14

what this deck is doing.

7:16

All right. First up, we

7:18

have Ulalek focused atrocity. Fused.

7:21

Fused atrocity. I'm

7:24

so focused on the card and the shiniest.

7:27

Ulalek fused atrocity. And

7:29

it is five colors

7:32

or how do you say that? Five colors

7:34

or devoid? It's

7:36

such a weird mana cost. You

7:39

can either pay colorless or you

7:41

can pay the color.

7:43

Right. So it could be

7:45

five colorless. It could be

7:48

Wuburg. It could be WU-colorless.

7:50

WU-kirk. WU-kirk. Yeah.

7:56

So it's actually very easy to cast this

7:58

card on curve because you don't. Technically

8:00

need all of the colors. You just need

8:02

access to colors It's so less restricting than

8:04

a typical five color commander, which

8:06

seems almost It seems

8:08

like you're getting like away with something you shouldn't

8:10

you're like I get to cast it without having

8:12

all five colors You can absolutely get away with

8:15

the first few turns in this deck and not

8:17

having Wuburg like yeah, we find having two colors

8:19

as long as you've access to colorless mana You

8:21

can go a long way. All right, so it's

8:23

Wuburg Wukirk, whatever you want it to be honestly

8:25

for a two five Legendary

8:28

Eldrazi with devoid it

8:30

says whenever you cast an Eldrazi spell

8:32

you may pay two colorless if

8:35

you do Copy all spells you control then

8:37

copy all other activated and triggered abilities you

8:39

control you may choose new targets for those

8:42

copies. I Mean

8:44

this is pretty sweet Before

8:46

we move on so Oolalek is the combination

8:49

of Oolamog and Kozalek. Yeah,

8:51

right like it's the fuse atrocity.

8:53

I Just got that

8:58

I Love it.

9:00

Yeah, I mean, I think it's just the

9:02

two boys mushed together Yeah the

9:04

funny thing about it though is they took

9:06

like the all might to Oolamog and the

9:09

huge Kozalek and they sort of squished it

9:11

down into this two five Compressed

9:16

and you get like a mini Titan

9:19

Oolalek is very interesting because it's it's

9:22

less about Ramping to

9:25

Your Oolamog or your Kozalek or whatever big bad

9:27

you have in the command zone and it's more

9:29

about getting Oolalek down and

9:31

following it up with a

9:34

big specifically non legendary L.

9:38

Drazi of any kind totally So

9:41

it's a slightly different play pattern than we're used to

9:43

seeing in Eldrazi decks. Yeah,

9:45

just generally you got a value piece

9:48

in the command zone that helps support

9:50

some of the The big

9:52

bombs in the 99. Yeah, and I mean I've

9:54

one of the things I thought was cool about

9:56

this commander Specifically is it also encourages like you

9:59

to play with like the the non-typical Eldrazis

10:01

you would expect in an Eldrazi-type old

10:03

deck, because you don't need the 10

10:05

drops, the 11 drops. It's

10:08

much more supportive of the other ones that

10:10

have existed for so long but had no

10:12

home. They're like three drops and four drops,

10:14

rares. Yeah, it's so funny that it's like,

10:16

it's finally a home for like the

10:19

blue-black one that's like whenever you play a

10:21

land, or an opponent plays a land, you

10:23

draw to. Yeah. You're like, it's a home for

10:25

this card. It's in this deck too. I can't

10:28

think of what it's called right now. I'm not

10:30

as well versed on these Eldrazis, because they don't

10:32

have homes. You don't get to play against them

10:34

all that often. So you get

10:36

to take all of those, devoid Eldrazi

10:38

and put them into the deck. And

10:40

many come in the deck already. Really

10:45

neat commander just generally.

10:47

Let's meet the backup commander before

10:49

we move on. This

10:52

is Aslask the Swelling

10:54

Scourge. This

10:56

is a three-mana Eldrazi. It's

10:58

a two-two. And it says,

11:00

whenever Aslask the Swelling Scourge

11:02

or another colorless creature you

11:04

control dies, you get an

11:06

experience counter. Then it

11:09

has an activated ability that says Wuburg

11:11

Colon. So you don't have to tap,

11:13

which is interesting. Creatures you control get

11:15

plus X plus X until end

11:17

of turn, where X is the

11:19

number of experience counters you have.

11:21

Sions and spawns you control get

11:23

indestructible and annihilator one until end

11:25

of turn. I'm so glad annihilator's

11:27

back. I'm just gonna

11:29

throw that out there. Oh, and it turns

11:32

the little babies into warriors. Monsters. So

11:34

this is like a very different focus.

11:37

Like where Ullalak takes all of

11:40

the colored devoid Eldrazi that we

11:42

were talking about and gives them

11:44

a home. Aslask says, take all

11:47

your scions and your spawn cards and put

11:49

them here. Because

11:51

they're the easiest things to sacrifice, you're gonna

11:53

get a ton of experience counters and attack

11:55

with all those wee boys. They're

11:59

indestructible. an annihilator,

12:01

they're all grown up and a nightmare.

12:03

You just destroy people's boards, like honestly. Like if

12:05

you attack with four things, annihilator four isn't what

12:08

it used to be. There's a lot more treasures

12:10

running around, there's a lot of clues and foods

12:12

and that kind of thing. So there's a lot

12:14

more just junk to

12:16

sacrifice. Yeah. But when

12:18

you can go wide and have, be rewarded

12:20

for an annihilator on each one, oh

12:23

my goodness. So

12:26

this is clearly a spawns and science commander.

12:28

It's also a five color

12:30

experience commander. Counter commander,

12:32

which we haven't seen before. You

12:35

know, it has a focus on colorless creatures

12:38

dying. So that's a bit

12:40

of a side quest, but you could just fill this deck

12:43

with all of the other experience counter cards

12:46

as well. Yeah. Which is kind

12:48

of neat. They don't

12:50

feel particularly related. No. These

12:52

two commanders. They really don't. Yeah, like

12:55

Ululek doesn't really care about science respawns

12:57

at all. And Azlax doesn't really care

12:59

about casting Eldrazis all that much unless

13:02

they die and then you get experience

13:04

counters, I guess. It's like an overrun

13:06

type thing. It definitely is just two

13:08

different commanders that you can play and

13:10

build around, I feel like more than

13:12

like one that supports the other. Yeah.

13:15

So those are the two options for the command zone

13:17

for this deck. We'll get

13:19

to who we picked to put in the command

13:21

zone in a little bit. But before we decide,

13:24

we're gonna talk about the notable reprints in

13:26

this deck when you buy it off the

13:28

shelf. We're only gonna talk about the ones that

13:31

are worth $5 or more. These

13:33

are the ones that when you buy them, you're

13:35

like, oh good, I don't have to rebuy that.

13:38

Right. Excellent. And

13:40

there's some good ones. There are eight cards

13:42

that are worth over $5. Starting

13:45

with Morrifan the Boundless

13:48

is sitting at $15. This

13:51

is cool that it gets to be an Eldrazi

13:53

deck. I think this was the only like five

13:55

color Eldrazi option before. But

13:57

now Morrifan in the 99 reducing. those

14:00

colored mana costs. Yes. Then

14:03

the next one we have at $14 is

14:05

Eldrazi Monument, which is honestly just a great

14:08

artifact. It's a power. It's a game under.

14:10

It's really powerful. It's

14:12

a great reprint. I mean, it can go in any

14:14

sort of token-y deck. As long as you can fuel

14:16

the monument, you can get the benefit. Sitting

14:19

at $11, we've reprinted

14:21

Eldrazi Conscription. This

14:24

is the aura that turns anything into

14:26

an Eldrazi. And if you

14:28

ooh-la-lack and the command zone turns two things into

14:31

an Eldrazi, terrifying. This

14:33

is a very cool reprint for big

14:36

aura decks and Eldrazi decks alike. Then

14:38

we have one of my favorite staples

14:41

now for any colorless deck, honestly. I

14:43

guess any deck, but especially colorless. Forsaken

14:45

Monument, $8. It's

14:48

just so good in your colorless Eldrazi decks. It

14:50

makes them cheaper to cast your mana ramping with

14:54

all the double of your additional wastes. It's

14:56

just really great. Yeah, I'm glad

14:58

they printed this card in both the Eldrazi

15:00

decks, because it's the first thing you're going to

15:02

add anyway. So it's very nice that you're getting the tools

15:05

that you have to have in the deck. Up

15:08

next, we've got a Adderkar Wastes.

15:10

This is the blue-white Painlands, currently

15:12

sitting at $7.50. The

15:15

Painlands, all 10 of them are

15:17

in this deck, which is

15:19

awesome because they make two colors and also

15:21

colorless. So they're perfect for your six-color deck,

15:24

and they come in untapped. You're going to

15:26

take a little bit of damage if you

15:28

need the color, but Oolalex

15:30

suggests that you just don't need the

15:33

color all that often. Honestly. They were

15:35

very conservative about pips in this deck, which

15:37

I appreciate. So $7.50, a good land reprint. And

15:42

then at $6, we have Harald's Horn, which is

15:44

another great staple for any type of typal deck.

15:47

You're going to be, they're going to cost

15:49

less to cast. And being able to look at

15:52

the top part of your library and put it

15:54

into your hand if you need to, it's just

15:56

great. Yeah, Harald's Horn, I found

15:58

is less of a dry engine. than it

16:00

is a ramp piece, but you do could

16:02

just incidentally get all card every so often.

16:05

So I would, if you're playing Herald's Horn, you count

16:08

on it as a ramp piece, and if you draw,

16:10

great, that's a bonus. And I will say, in

16:13

the way we upgrade this deck, which we can get into later,

16:16

it can be even more beneficial to be able to draw

16:18

it. So, yes. Up next

16:20

is Carpluzin Forest. This is the red-green

16:22

Painland sitting at $5.50, and

16:26

of course, all is dust.

16:28

You got a reprint sitting at $5.50 right now. Another

16:32

perfect card for your colorless deck.

16:35

So eight cards over $5, some

16:37

good reprints, and definitely some stuff

16:39

that you want in the deck

16:41

already. Pretty happy to see those.

16:45

So those are the individual reprints. We're gonna

16:47

talk about the total reprint value of this

16:49

deck. We didn't do our

16:51

normal caveats, so I'll do them now.

16:54

All of these prices are taken at time

16:57

of recording, which is before this deck is

16:59

announced. When you are seeing this,

17:02

everybody knows, so those prices will go

17:04

down. So this

17:06

value is more relative. You can use

17:08

it to compare the value of this

17:10

deck to other decks when we record

17:12

them, not literally to what

17:17

you're going to be getting when

17:19

you buy it. If you try to do the numbers after this

17:21

is out, it's not gonna match. It's not gonna match, yeah, exactly.

17:24

Okay, so before

17:26

we get into the reprint value,

17:28

I do wanna mention this deck

17:30

is pre-ordering significantly higher than the

17:32

other three decks. I

17:34

think it has something to do with the

17:37

Commander Master's Eldrazi deck spiking after it getting

17:39

announced and being a very expensive deck to

17:41

pick up. So at

17:43

time of recording, this deck is pre-ordering for

17:45

$135, almost twice what the other decks are

17:52

pre-ordering for. No,

17:55

literally twice what the other decks are pre-ordering

17:57

for. So the math that...

18:00

that we did is

18:02

based on that pre-order price of $135. If

18:05

you can find it cheaper than that, then this will be a

18:07

better deal. If you find it more expensive than that, this will

18:09

be a worse deal. But

18:11

all we have is the numbers on the

18:13

table right now, which is pricey.

18:16

Yes. That being said,

18:18

the total reprint value for this deck

18:21

is, I'll let you announce it, Ashlinn.

18:23

Is... So

18:29

about $10 to $12 more than the cost of the deck. Not

18:34

ideal. Not ideal at all. No. No.

18:37

Oh, it hurts. Yeah.

18:40

It's not great. I

18:42

anticipate the pre-ordering price will go

18:44

down once the, what's

18:47

in the 99 is announced. But

18:49

right now, it is certainly not worth

18:51

it to pick up the deck at $135. Of

18:56

course, this value only takes into account the

18:58

reprints in the deck, which is only 73 cards. It

19:02

doesn't include the 15 new cards from MH3, the

19:05

six main set cards, and the six basic lands.

19:08

Those are not included in this value. So

19:10

technically, you'll be getting a little bit more value. I

19:15

mean, I will say too, compared

19:18

to the Commander Master's one, which was fine, I

19:21

actually really enjoyed playing this deck. For

19:23

me, the new stuff does make it something worth,

19:26

I don't know, $135 is a lot, but it

19:29

does make it, I really do enjoy this deck and what

19:31

it has to offer. It's interesting. I

19:33

mean, 135 seems like

19:35

a speculative number. So

19:37

it's very hard to base this, use

19:40

this number and give you something that feels

19:42

productive. Because of course, right now, the bang

19:44

for your buck is abysmal. If

19:47

you buy it at $135 and you're only getting $147 with

19:51

value, you're getting $1.09 of card value for

19:55

your one American dollar. And

19:57

that reprint value is going to go

19:59

down. So what it means is like

20:02

literally you will be getting less reprint

20:04

value than your American dollar.

20:06

Not great. This is honestly, it

20:08

is the lowest bang for your

20:11

buck value we've ever seen. Really?

20:14

Including Commander Masters, which was quite

20:16

low. Yes, it was. It

20:18

is lower than all of the bang

20:20

for your buck values in 2023. And

20:24

is obviously the lowest in MH3. But

20:28

that is based on the $135 value. So

20:31

if you can find it for cheaper

20:33

later, it's a much better deal. And

20:35

like we said, it does offer a

20:37

totally different thing, Eldrazi

20:40

thing than previous Eldrazi, the

20:43

previous Eldrazi Recon. OK,

20:46

so that's the reprint value. A

20:49

little bit disappointing, honestly. But yeah,

20:52

like you said, we've played

20:55

this deck and it plays. It really

20:57

does play. And it's fun.

20:59

I am. Let's talk about the

21:01

deck stats and we can talk about the deck as

21:03

a whole. So excited to talk about the deck. I

21:06

know. It's time. Who cares about the preprint

21:08

value? This is the deck. So it's time

21:10

to break down the stats. Cool.

21:17

We're going to talk about the mechanical

21:19

details of this deck. Break down the

21:21

nuts and bolts so you understand how

21:23

the deck works. Starting with

21:25

the vegetables, the stuff that goes in every

21:27

pre-con, it goes in every

21:29

deck, honestly. I love that metaphor, the vegetables

21:32

of the deck. Everybody needs it. You've got

21:34

to eat them. They're not always fun. But

21:37

they're necessary. But they're necessary. There

21:39

are 15 pieces of ramp in this

21:41

deck. Makes sense for a deck full of

21:43

Eldrazi. There are 13 draw

21:46

cards, 13 pieces

21:48

of targeted interaction. There are three

21:50

board wipes. We've talked about one

21:52

of them already. There are

21:54

38 lands in the deck. Only six

21:56

of them are basic, which is pretty

21:58

wild for a five-color deck. deck. There's one

22:01

of each, Wuburg Wastes. So

22:03

that's the breakdown. It looks pretty normal, honestly.

22:05

Thirteen's right. Thirteen pieces of interaction is a

22:08

little high, but it's good for like a

22:10

slower deck. And some

22:12

of that interaction is stapled to, you know,

22:14

nine drops. Yeah, that's

22:16

fair. So it's not all super, super

22:19

efficient. Up next, we're

22:21

going to break down the deck-specific stats

22:23

just so you understand what the deck

22:25

is doing itself. There are 33 Eldrazi

22:27

in the deck, predictably, a

22:29

lot. And just to clarify

22:31

there, is it Eldrazi spells or are

22:33

we talking about creatures here? This is

22:35

Eldrazi spells. Great, okay. So this does

22:37

include the sorceries that are Eldrazi, Kindred

22:40

spells. All of those spells

22:42

can be copied with Ulalak. If they

22:44

have the type Eldrazi, they can

22:46

be copied with Ulalak, right? He only cares

22:48

about Eldrazi spells. Eldrazi spells, not creatures. Eldrazi

22:52

spells, doesn't say creatures spells. Good double

22:54

check, though. The next category, there are

22:56

11 cards that make scions or spawns.

22:59

A little low to put Azlask in the

23:01

command zone, I think you would really want

23:03

more slots dedicated. And there are more out

23:05

there, so definitely. I think the deck's going

23:07

to require a bigger pivot if you're going

23:09

to put Azlask in the command zone based

23:11

on that number. And then there are

23:13

eight cards that are built around just colorless synergy

23:16

in general, which we know is

23:18

very commonly tied to Eldrazi stuff.

23:21

Which is decent. Yeah. So

23:23

you can definitely up that. But

23:25

overall, the nuts and bolts of this

23:27

deck are pretty good. Yeah.

23:30

The weirdest thing when you look at it, though, is I was laying out the

23:32

curve, and the curve is terrifying.

23:34

Right? It's like not

23:37

a lot of proactive spells on

23:40

like one and two. And

23:42

then you get to the six and above

23:44

slot, and there's like 20. Flood

23:47

of them, yeah. Eldrazis, or like 20 spells

23:49

that are six mana value or higher. So

23:52

I remember laying it all out and looking at it and

23:54

just being like, how are

23:56

you supposed to play that? I need

23:58

to upgrade so much. But

24:01

it's interesting because normally

24:04

when you're worried about curve you want to be

24:06

able to double spell, you want to be able

24:08

to get like your deck to get to a

24:10

point where you can cast one and hold up

24:12

another or cast two spells and get ahead of your

24:15

opponents. But Oololek

24:17

says if you cast

24:19

one big thing you get a second big

24:21

thing. Right, exactly. It's packed in.

24:23

So you get to double spell even if you're

24:25

casting a six drop as long as you have

24:28

the two extra colorless mana to get the second

24:30

six drop. So honestly this deck double spells very,

24:33

very well for a deck that has

24:35

an incredibly high curve. For very, very

24:37

cheap mana. Yeah. Like my

24:39

goodness. I was very

24:41

impressed with the functionality of this deck

24:43

because I think if you look at it

24:45

from the top down you're like it's a mess. Yes. And

24:48

then you play it and wizards

24:51

knew what they were doing. Honestly, seriously. It

24:53

does work. Do you ever think of like

24:55

if you want to sit down and do

24:57

your own workshop on it, play it first,

24:59

goldfish it out and see how it feels

25:01

instead of just looking at the curves and

25:03

the stats because it's misleading. I agree. Yeah.

25:07

Okay. Let's talk about the best cards in the

25:09

deck and that'll inform kind of what we want to do with this upgrade.

25:14

Excuse me. Predictably, this

25:16

first card is always the best

25:18

card in colorless decks. We've

25:21

already mentioned it. It's Forsaken Monument. Yes. Forsaken

25:24

Monument. I'm guessing I'm reading through the card.

25:26

Yeah, yeah. All right. Let's hear

25:28

it in all its glory. It is a legendary

25:30

artifact for five colorless. It says colorless creatures you control

25:32

get plus two plus two. Whenever

25:34

you tap a permanent for a waste, add

25:36

an additional waste. Whenever you

25:39

cast a colorless spell, you gain two life.

25:42

I mean, it's an anthem effect for

25:44

all of your creatures. It's

25:46

ramp. It's life

25:48

gain. Life gain. It's

25:51

so good. It's

25:53

especially with if you had Uluk as the

25:55

commander because it's doubling the life

25:58

gain you get each time. Drazidex,

26:00

you're typically going to be an arch

26:02

enemy at some point if you start

26:04

just spewing out your powerhouses. And so

26:06

to have that extra padding of life

26:08

actually can come in handy, but the

26:10

ramp is honestly the biggest, biggest

26:13

important part of this card that makes it so strong.

26:15

That's a huge part of this. And I think it, especially

26:18

with Oololek's copy trigger, you have to

26:20

pay two colorless mana to copy anything

26:23

on the stack. And Forsaken Monument gives

26:25

you, like even if you tap everything

26:27

else for colored mana, you

26:30

just tap one colorless mana and you can

26:32

pay for that Oololek copy trigger. So

26:36

it's the best card in a lot of Eldrazidex,

26:38

even with five colors, it's still the best card

26:40

in this card. It basically says pay for Oololek's

26:42

ability for free, almost. I'll let you read this

26:44

next one as well. It's a new one. Selective

26:47

Obliteration, it is three colorless colorless

26:50

for a colorless sorcery. Each player chooses

26:52

a color. And exile each

26:54

permanent, unless it's colorless or it's

26:57

the only color its controller chose.

26:59

So this is interesting. It's

27:02

not quite all as dust, but this

27:04

hits, it allows them

27:07

to keep like one or two

27:09

mono-colored things. So if you have

27:11

a smothering tide and you're like, I want to

27:13

keep my smothering tide, they choose white and then

27:15

everything else goes. But all your stuff is colorless. So

27:17

it feels like a one-sided board

27:19

wipe, similar to all

27:21

his dust, but it's cheaper. It's way cheaper.

27:24

It's like two less, I think. Yeah, five to seven. I

27:26

think it's seven for all its dust. This

27:28

kind of thing is so powerful in

27:31

decks that are working with a limitation.

27:34

When you're building heavily around an

27:36

Eldrazi theme or when you're building

27:38

heavily around a colorless theme, you're

27:41

handicapping yourself to earn

27:44

some synergy points. And this board wipe

27:46

is exactly the synergy that you're looking

27:48

to earn. It rewards

27:51

you for your synergy, which is

27:53

nice. I also like it because, I mean, there's

27:56

on average, like, what would you say like the

27:58

average color span decks? are

28:00

nowadays in Commander that you run up against

28:02

three colors. Usually three colors. Yeah. It's

28:05

usually three color, four mana commanders. It's pretty typical.

28:07

That hits pretty hard if they can only choose one to

28:09

keep. So. Yeah, if they're

28:11

not playing a mono colored commander, you're at the

28:13

very least they're losing all of that. It

28:19

lets them keep some things, but

28:21

you keep everything. Right. And

28:24

that imbalance is really how you push

28:26

over the top. It's

28:28

especially when you have Eldrazis and they're

28:30

these huge beaters. They are also sort

28:32

of forced to keep creatures. Yeah.

28:35

Otherwise you were going to rumble.

28:37

That's true. So it puts

28:39

them in an awkward position because where they have to

28:41

sacrifice all their stuff, but they do need to keep

28:43

some amount of blockers and then you attack into them

28:45

and they have to make awkward jumps. Yeah.

28:49

So it's a great board wipe when

28:51

you're ahead on board, which is really

28:53

powerful. Yeah. I think the only

28:55

area. Or puts you ahead on board anyway. Yeah. It

28:58

kind of doesn't shine as brightly as yes, there are a lot of

29:00

treasure tokens. And so that there is that. But

29:03

in general, I feel like it's

29:05

really powerful. We're going to talk about

29:07

one more best card in the deck because when I played

29:09

this deck, this card was terrifying.

29:12

This is from the main set.

29:14

It's glaring flesh raker two

29:17

and a colorless for an Eldrazi

29:19

drone. It's a two, two. It

29:21

says, whenever you cast a colorless

29:23

spell, create a zero one colorless

29:25

Eldrazi spawn creature token with sacrifice

29:28

this creature add colorless. Whenever

29:30

another colorless creature enters the battlefield

29:33

under your control, glaring flesh raker

29:35

deals one damage to each opponent.

29:38

So this is like a colorless impact

29:40

tremors kind of. Yeah. But

29:43

the crazy thing with Oolalek

29:46

is if you cast Oolalek and then

29:48

cast glaring flesh raker the next turn

29:50

and you copy it. Now

29:52

you have two. Now you have two

29:55

glaring flesh rakers. One sees the

29:57

other one coming in, but then the next

29:59

Eldrazi spell. that you cast, you

30:02

have two Glaring Fleshraker triggers, so they both

30:04

give you a scion. Yep, which is already

30:06

two damage. Which is already two damage. If

30:08

you copy that with Ulalek, you get four

30:10

of those. And then if you

30:13

copy that Eldrazi spell, you get those

30:15

two Eldrazi. And you have two Glaring

30:17

Fleshrakers, which means it's like 12 damage.

30:21

For the one card, which is five mana total.

30:23

And that's like on turn six. Like

30:25

you cast Ulalek on four, you cast this the

30:27

next turn. And even if you have just a

30:29

tiny Eldrazi, like a three drop, if

30:32

you copy it with a Glaring Fleshraker on the table,

30:35

it's an absurd amount of damage out

30:37

of nowhere to each opponent. And it

30:39

doesn't even have to be a big

30:42

scary Eldrazi. It can be a value

30:44

Eldrazi. There's like counterspell Eldrazis that will

30:46

deal 12 damage. So

30:48

this is one of those cards that you really

30:51

want to deploy when you can double spell, like

30:53

when you can follow it up with another Eldrazi

30:55

immediately, or when you're fairly sure your opponent's defenses

30:57

are down. Because it

31:00

has the potential to do a huge

31:02

life swing out of nowhere. It's also

31:04

an interesting name. Glaring Fleshraker, is it

31:06

just looking very angrily at you? Or

31:08

is it like so bright? It's

31:13

certainly a Raking Flash. That

31:15

we know. What is Glaring

31:17

about? Like, Clary, I know that

31:19

the Eldrazi have this all shiny, I don't know

31:21

what you call it, like geode looking tone

31:24

to them. But I'm like, hmm. He does

31:26

have eyes though. I

31:28

mean, it's like a bright glare maybe. Maybe

31:30

he's just reflective. He's just very reflective. He's

31:32

a mirror Eldrazi. Eldrazi

31:36

names are always a little

31:38

puzzling to me. They're fun.

31:41

Where they're all just

31:43

sort of doing random things. We're going to

31:45

talk about Vile Redeemer. And

31:47

you're like, what is he redeeming? Why is it

31:49

so vile? Why is it so vile? It's

31:55

hard to get a read on them. They're

31:57

not very expressive. Those are the

31:59

best. in the deck, they're going to give you an idea

32:02

for what we're trying to

32:04

do. And it's in its colorless

32:06

synergy, but it's also just overwhelming

32:09

your opponents with Eldrazi

32:11

spells rather than slamming

32:13

one bomb and crossing your fingers. It's a

32:16

little different. It's a very different shift. So

32:19

let's talk about this. Let's get into the upgrade goals with

32:22

our upgrade. We're going to add 10 cards. We're going to

32:24

take 10 cards out. We're going to use a budget of

32:26

$50. But we're going

32:28

to tell you what we were trying to

32:30

do with this upgrade. We've

32:32

hinted at it, but the commander we chose was Ululek.

32:35

Yes. He's a natural fit

32:37

for the deck. There's not quite enough spawn and

32:40

scion synergy. We would have to

32:42

dedicate every add to putting more

32:44

spawns and scions in if you're going to put

32:46

Azlas in the command zone. But it's a cool

32:48

build around for later. Honestly, yeah. I

32:50

would be excited to see what people do with that

32:52

because it will be fun. Yeah. And anything you can

32:54

do that connects random

32:57

experience countercards is kind of neat. As a

32:59

commander player, I feel like that's very satisfying

33:01

because that's kind of how commander, you're like,

33:03

what can I pile together of all my

33:05

other stuff to make a deck? You're

33:08

like, all right, we're getting marin is getting

33:10

involved in Eldrazis now. So

33:13

this deck, we've sung

33:16

its praises. It does play much better

33:18

than it looks. But

33:20

there are some sort of weird cards in it.

33:22

There's some over-costed things. There's

33:24

some new cards that they printed

33:26

that are very narrow type of

33:28

effects. So just

33:30

trying to make the deck more consistent

33:33

and feel a little bit smoother was

33:35

a big part of what we talked

33:37

about in this upgrade. Yeah. And I

33:39

think we also wanted to look at

33:41

making it so we can take advantage

33:43

of our commander's ability. And

33:45

so incorporating more things like Flash so that

33:47

we can really take advantage of those triggers

33:50

and putting things on the stack. Yeah,

33:54

we'll get into it a little bit more, but

33:56

the way that UloLect's ability

33:58

works... is you can copy

34:01

everything you have on the

34:03

stack as long as there's

34:05

an Eldrazi spell that you're copying on

34:07

top of that. So Flash is really,

34:09

really powerful and there's some in the

34:11

pre-con but there's not a lot of

34:14

focus on it. It's not particularly intuitive

34:16

and it's definitely confusing

34:18

for people who are just picking this up

34:20

off the shelf. So we're gonna add some

34:23

of that because it's neat. And

34:26

the other thing that you mentioned was just haste. Every

34:30

time I saw the Ulo Lek deck play,

34:32

I've seen it play twice currently, is

34:35

it just sticks a big threat? And then it says,

34:37

can you answer that? And usually

34:39

it copies that, so just two of them. It's like, can

34:41

you answer that? Can you

34:43

answer that? Can you answer that? But

34:46

you're not getting a ton of value unless

34:48

you untap with those threats. I

34:51

noticed that it's common with like, honestly,

34:54

a lot of decks that I've played

34:56

but in the past, especially big bomb

34:58

decks, is having haste is so crucial

35:00

because if not, you're investing all this

35:02

mana and resources into these powerful

35:04

cards but then you don't get to use them

35:06

for a whole turn. So haste comes into play

35:08

and is really helpful in making sure you can

35:11

utilize those cards as soon as you get them

35:13

out and force your

35:15

opponents to answer them now or

35:17

deal with them now. Yeah, or the consequences

35:19

are, you do not have time to think

35:22

about this. You don't get to draw yet, just deal with it.

35:25

I think that's cool. And it's definitely

35:27

like, this is gonna be the lowest

35:29

curve on an Eldrazi deck because normally

35:31

when you're playing against an Eldrazi deck,

35:33

it's ramp, ramp, ramp, ramp, ramp what's

35:35

coming. This is turn four,

35:38

Ulelec comes down, turn five, you

35:40

have a very big problem and

35:42

maybe even faster. There's

35:44

a lot of acceleration in this deck. You

35:46

could absolutely get Ulelec down as early as

35:48

like turn three. Yeah, when I was gold

35:50

fishing, I got it down turn three with

35:52

like Forsaken Monument was already copped. It was

35:54

gnarly, I was like, what? Yeah, it's absurd.

35:56

And you really don't stumble over the mana

35:58

base as much as I think. When they

36:00

printed the five color sliver deck, that

36:03

mana base was largely tapped, it was, and

36:05

you couldn't curve out the way that you

36:07

wanted to, but because all these lands are

36:10

untapped and because so much of what you're

36:12

casting is colorless mana, you can actually play

36:14

your stuff on curve and not even take

36:16

that much damage from your mostly pain land

36:18

mana base. So, very impressed

36:20

with this deck, but there is definitely some cool tricks

36:22

that we can add to it. We're

36:24

gonna get to those upgrade, the

36:27

cards that we're adding and the cards we're taking out, after

36:30

a few words from our sponsors. Bruce

36:34

36:36

episode, just deserts. Come

36:39

on, Bruce, we're right on Oko's tail. We can bring

dying. Go on without

36:49

41:09

we moved into our new offices, it was a

41:12

huge upgrade, literally. This

41:14

place is gigantic. Which is great,

41:16

but then you realize every single room needs. Tables.

41:19

Chairs. Computer stuff. Decor. We

41:21

wanted the place to look nice and obviously we want it to

41:23

be magic themed. So we're looking for stuff that's classy and high

41:26

end. And one of the coolest things we found was this Jace

41:28

Bellerin statue from Gattler's Tavern. Yeah, look at the

41:30

incredible attention to detail. And it looks even better

41:32

when it's all lit up. Plus it comes with

41:34

interchangeable parts so you can customize it with different

41:36

poses. This is really the ultimate magic collectible to

41:38

be the centerpiece of your home, office, or gaming

41:40

setup. Especially if you're a blue mage like me.

41:42

Or for the true OG collectors, check out

this Black Lotus relief sculpture. It's such an

41:47

iconic part of magic history, but also

41:49

a fantastic art piece that'll get compliments

41:51

from players and non-players alike. It even

41:53

comes with a stunning metal card that makes great

41:55

desk decor all on its own. Or you can use

41:57

it as a proxy in your Garth 1i deck. Ha, we call

41:59

that. Two for one. You know we're obsessed

42:01

with quality here at the command zone, and Gatherr's

42:03

Tavern, they absolutely share those values. Each of these

42:06

pieces is individually hand sculpted and hand painted. As

42:08

you might imagine, that's an intricate process, and as

42:10

a result, both of these items are very, very

42:12

limited. They only created a handful, and once those

42:14

are gone, that's it. These were made for the

42:16

serious collector and it shows. I mean, look at

42:19

them. They're so great, it kind of feels like

42:21

they should have their own room. Do

42:23

you think there's more space? Oh, don't even

42:46

deck list is complete. Now, let's see

42:48

which cards I don't already own and...

42:51

Buy them. Wait, how'd you do

42:53

that without going through a million boxes? Oh, I

42:55

just use Archidact. They make it super easy to

42:57

upload and manage your collection. Then when you're done

42:59

brewing a deck, you can sort it by collection

43:01

status to see what you already have. So this

43:03

group is just cards you don't own. Yup, I

43:05

just click buy this stack and it takes me

43:07

right to Card Kingdom. Whoa. Archidact

43:09

is the best place to browse,

43:12

brew and play test commander decks.

43:14

Just go to archidec.com/command zone to

43:16

get started. That's a-r-c-h-i-d-e-k-t.com/command zone. Welcome

43:19

back everybody. We are talking about

43:21

the Eldrazi Incursion Precon. We

43:24

are going to get to this upgrade. We've given

43:27

you a lot of information and we spent a

43:29

lot of time with this deck. So it's time

43:31

to tell you what cards to add. This

43:34

first category that we're talking about is flash.

43:36

Yes. Just stuff in general. So

43:38

I want to walk through how this works because it

43:40

is super sweet. Yes, it's super

43:42

sweet but can be very complicated. And honestly,

43:45

you can play this deck just fine and

43:47

completely mess up how this flash works and

43:50

miss out on potential power.

43:52

Value. Value. So

43:55

Ululik says, whenever you cast an

43:57

Eldrazi spell, you may pay colorless,

43:59

colorless. If you do copy all

44:02

spells you control, then copy all

44:04

other activated and triggered abilities you

44:06

control, you may choose new targets

44:09

for the copies. So

44:11

Ululek copies the

44:13

actual permanent spell, so you'll get two

44:15

of the Eldrazi spells, and

44:17

it'll copy all cast triggers, and

44:20

it'll copy all other

44:22

things that are on the stack. So if you

44:24

have like a Beast Whisperer, and you cast a creature,

44:26

you have a Beast Whisperer trigger on the stack,

44:28

you'll copy that as well. But

44:31

if you can put an activated ability or

44:33

a triggered ability on the stack, and you

44:35

wanna copy it again, you can put an

44:37

Eldrazi spell on the top of that, like

44:40

an Uluemog's Crusher, right? Is like an

44:42

8A, is super powerful. You

44:44

cast that for eight, and you

44:47

pay two colorless to make a second

44:49

copy. But now you're like, you know

44:51

what? I want more Uluemog's Crushers, and

44:53

I have all this mana. You can

44:56

put a Flash Eldrazi on top of

44:58

that, and pay colorless again,

45:01

and that will copy all the things

45:03

on the stack, including the Uluemog's Crusher,

45:06

including the copy of the Uluemog's Crusher,

45:08

including any other triggered ability. Oh, right,

45:10

it's copying the spell. It copies everything

45:13

on the stack. That's right. So the

45:16

more Eldrazi spells that you have with

45:18

Flash, the more this stuff snowballs. Of

45:20

course you need a lot of mana

45:22

to be able to do that. That's

45:24

like, you know, 15 mana

45:27

or something like that, but you're

45:29

an Eldrazi deck. You've got mana.

45:31

Yeah, the Elder Deep Fiend, which

45:33

is an Eldrazi Octopus for eight

45:35

colorless, five, six, flash with

45:37

Emerge Cost, five, blue, blue. Whenever you cast

45:39

a spell, tap up to four target permanents.

45:42

So you copy that, you tap four permanents

45:44

if you're able to pay. Yeah, Cribswap

45:46

is a cool example in the deck.

45:49

So Cribswap is a instant with changeline,

45:51

which means it's an Eldrazi spell. Yes.

45:54

So it'll trigger your commander. You can pay two

45:56

colorless. Copy your Cribswap, copy the

45:58

Crusher, copy the copy. of the crusher. And

46:01

so one of the other ways I was thinking of this

46:03

too is when it comes to

46:06

like combat tricks or anything, if you have

46:08

things like creatures that say during combat, like

46:10

if you flash something in when that's already

46:12

on the stack, does that work? Yeah. If

46:15

you have like, we talked about the flesh raker,

46:17

if you have ETB damage triggers on the stack,

46:20

you could flash an Eldrazi in on top of

46:22

that and copy all of those one damage triggers.

46:25

It's so good. As long as you have

46:27

the mana to pay for the copy ability

46:29

of like Ululex copy ability, then you're

46:31

good. But it's basically

46:33

anytime you're doing something super powerful, you can

46:36

double it with a flash Eldrazi. It's

46:38

wild. You could even put, it's not

46:41

on the deck and we're not suggesting you add

46:43

it, you could put like an Aether Flux reservoir

46:45

trigger on the stack and flash an Eldrazi in

46:47

on top of it and copy that activated

46:49

ability and kill another player with it.

46:51

Like it's that powerful. It doesn't have

46:53

to be related to Eldrazi's at all

46:55

as long as it's on the stack.

46:57

It is a giant, hindral laser. Okay.

47:02

So, let's talk about it. We're adding a couple

47:04

of cards to make it easier to do this

47:07

because it is really powerful and you can make

47:09

it happen. So versatile too. You get, you have

47:11

so many more options and fun gameplay interactions at

47:13

your fingertips. So, the first card we're adding

47:15

is a land. It's Emergent Zone

47:18

for $1.50. Nice.

47:22

It's what we said, you can abuse cast

47:24

triggers and... Yeah. It's a land. It

47:26

stacks itself as one tap, stack, Emergent Zone. You

47:29

may cast spells this turn as though they

47:31

had flash. So, you have to stack a

47:33

land to do it. It technically like cost

47:35

you two mana, but you can

47:37

copy a powerful thing going on on the stack.

47:41

Yes. The next one's a classic. We should

47:43

have Josh Leakwise head of pop in here

47:45

as we say it. But we're actually going

47:47

to add Vidalcan Orry to this deck. It's

47:49

currently sitting at $8. It's

47:51

come up a little bit since

47:53

it's reprint in Double Masters I

47:55

think. But

47:58

this just gives all your spells. Flash.

48:00

Yes. Now they have no idea what's

48:02

happening. Yeah, and you can also take

48:04

advantage of being able to cast your

48:07

creatures before your turn. So then you don't have to worry

48:09

about the haste. If you don't have any haste enablers yet,

48:11

you can get those out and then on tap with them

48:13

and use them. That's a big thing

48:15

about haste and flash just

48:17

in general when you're playing big

48:20

threatening permanents like this is

48:22

when you have nothing on your board, you

48:26

look less scary. On

48:29

people look at your board and you don't have that

48:31

much. Of course, all your mana is open and you have cards

48:33

in your hand. So you are scary.

48:35

Don't forget that. But being

48:38

able to flash something in on end

48:40

step and suddenly produce 16 power

48:42

worth of attackers is

48:44

so powerful, even if you're not

48:47

doing this tricksy stacking Eldrazi thing.

48:50

Pretty sweet. So $8 from an Alcanore

48:52

worth every penny. All right,

48:54

up next we have Void Graftor. It

48:57

is an Eldrazi drone for a

48:59

colorless green and blue. It's a

49:01

2-4 with a void and flash.

49:03

It says, whenever Void Graftor enters

49:05

the battlefield, another target creature you

49:07

control gains hexproof until end of

49:09

turn. Nice. It's

49:11

a great way to keep whatever you need on

49:13

board protected, especially your commander. Yeah.

49:16

Ulamog's a big part of this value

49:18

engine, especially if you're

49:20

tapping out for an Ulamog's Crusher

49:22

or some big

49:25

threat. You really want, well,

49:28

not quite tapping out, but I guess if you have this,

49:30

but you want something in

49:32

your hand that can give you that protection. And

49:34

it's not even dead if you don't need the

49:37

protection because you can use it as a

49:39

copy spell. Yeah, honestly, it's three mana to copy

49:41

all the other nonsense you could do. And

49:44

it's just $0.25, which is going to

49:46

come up a lot because these are Eldrazi

49:48

that aren't typically seen played anywhere. So yeah,

49:50

$0.25 for the Void Graftor. This

49:54

is a very budget upgrade. Yes, it is. You

49:56

don't, like you actually don't need the

49:59

$40 Kozel. or the really

50:01

expensive Oolamogs or another Emerald. Like they're

50:03

perfectly good. You can copy those cast

50:05

triggers and they're very powerful, but you

50:07

don't get two of them. So there's

50:09

not a ton of benefit to adding

50:11

all of the really expensive Eldrazis to this

50:13

deck. We

50:16

have teased it already. It

50:18

is time to add a little bit of hasty

50:21

threats to this deck. Starting

50:23

with a big one that came from Commander Masters,

50:26

Flayer of Loyalties is eight colorless colorless

50:28

for an Eldrazi. It's a 10-10. When

50:32

you cast this spell, gain control of target creature

50:34

until end of turn, untap that creature. Until end

50:36

of turn, it has base power and toughness, 10-10

50:38

and gains trample, Annihilator 2

50:41

and haste. Flayer of Loyalties

50:43

itself has Annihilator 2 and

50:46

trample. So the Flayer doesn't

50:48

have haste itself, but it does give you

50:50

two if you can copy it. Terrifying

50:53

10-10 threats. While

50:56

removing two blockers. Yes. I

50:59

consider it kind of... Would you consider

51:01

this a game ender or a closer

51:03

if need be? Yeah. I mean, this

51:05

is like an Eldrazi. It's not as

51:08

far as an insurrection, but you can

51:10

take terrifying blockers, turn them into very

51:12

serious threats and it's out of nowhere

51:14

where what's on your board, you're like, I've

51:17

got my two blockers and there's

51:19

nothing on board that can kill me right now. But if

51:21

you can yoink both those blockers and attack

51:24

with 20 hasty power, that's

51:26

not a death people

51:28

expect. Yeah, honestly. You

51:30

cast this thing at flash speed, it can save you

51:32

in combat, it

51:35

can do all sorts of crazy stuff.

51:37

You're probably not going to be able to sacrifice them.

51:40

There's not a lot of sac outlets in

51:42

the deck, but you can make plenty use

51:44

of 10-10s with Annihilator. Yeah, with Annihilator 2.

51:48

And it's 750 for that one. That's probably one of

51:50

the more expensive ones because it's newer and a big

51:52

bum. Yeah. It's a great

51:54

cast trigger to copy and it's a great

51:56

body to double as well, attend with Trample

51:58

and Annihilator 2. This next one is

52:00

my favorite, honestly, for this deck, just because

52:03

it's such a powerhouse. A Reality Smasher. It

52:06

is an Eldrazi, a Fife of

52:08

Eldrazi for four and a Colorless.

52:11

It has trample and haste, and it says,

52:13

whenever Reality Smasher becomes the target of a

52:15

spell and opponent controls, counter that spell unless

52:17

its controller discards a card. He's got like

52:19

a old ward. Yes,

52:22

very old ward. Ward

52:24

before ward existed. And it

52:27

has haste. It's a five-five trample with

52:29

haste, and you're going to

52:31

copy it. And that's just great, because

52:33

that's a lot of damage really fast.

52:36

And typically, there's a downside to having something

52:39

like that when they print it on a

52:41

card, but I feel like being able to

52:43

copy it. Well, there's no downside with this

52:45

one. It's just great. I

52:47

think people underestimate how powerful just a

52:49

hasty, scary threat is, especially when there's

52:52

two of them. This

52:54

is a threat that's going to lower your curve

52:56

a little bit. It's easy to copy the turn

52:58

after you cast Ululek, which I found was

53:01

an interesting thing. You want to get Ululek down

53:03

as fast as possible, but then you're looking at

53:06

seven drops in your hand, and you're like, I

53:08

don't have nine mana to copy this. So making

53:10

sure that you do have something that is meaningful

53:12

to copy, and it's going to

53:15

put some damage on the board right away.

53:17

Again, we're saying that this is an

53:19

Eldrazi deck with a lower curve. It's

53:21

more aggressive, and it's more swarming than

53:23

it is individual. Big

53:25

looming threat, yeah. So Reality Smasher

53:28

actually fits perfectly into the curve

53:30

of an Ululek deck. And

53:32

it's only $3.50. Nice.

53:36

Up next is Dust Stalker.

53:39

He's stalking the Dust? He's stalking the

53:41

Dust. Why? Maybe in

53:43

allergies. The dust is everywhere. Maybe. Maybe

53:45

in her allergies. He's a sweetie. He

53:47

sneezes out of his weird chest cavity.

53:50

Two black red for an Eldrazi

53:52

with Devoid and Haste. He's a

53:54

5'3". At the beginning of

53:57

each end step, if you control no other

53:59

colorless creatures return Dust Stalker to

54:01

its owner's hand. This is the one

54:03

with the downside. Normally,

54:06

when you cast this, you

54:08

cast this 5-3 with haste, and you better hope that

54:10

you have another colorless creature, or you're going to have

54:12

to recast it. But with

54:14

Oololek, you can copy it, have

54:17

another colorless creature on

54:19

board, and you don't have to bounce anything. And

54:22

you've got two hasty scary threats. And

54:25

if they deal with the token, and it returns itself to

54:27

hand, you get to do it again. It's totally fine. Play

54:30

it again and copy it again. Again,

54:33

lowering the curve, making things more

54:35

aggressive, making sure that your mid-range

54:37

Yieldrazis are present and

54:40

getting you plenty of value as well. I

54:42

really like that one. And it's $0.50. It's

54:45

nothing. Up

54:47

next is an enchantment, actually. We're adding some

54:49

colors in here. It is

54:51

Rhythm of the Wild for a colorless red

54:54

and green. I love this enchantment

54:56

in general. And if your spells you

54:58

control can't be countered. No. No. No

55:01

to your no. I say no. And

55:04

non-toking creatures you control have Riot. So you

55:06

can choose whether they enter the battlefield with

55:08

haste or a plus 1

55:10

plus 1 counter. Now, I'm curious. The

55:12

way I was thinking, envisioning this, is

55:14

that it triggers twice with

55:17

Oololek. If need be, if it goes on

55:19

this, if they get Riot, you get to

55:21

give them both? Riot's an ETB trigger. Oh,

55:23

ETB. The Oololek

55:26

trigger will have resolved by the time

55:28

it enters the battlefield. But I still

55:31

like this include because Rhythm of the

55:33

Wild, first of all, protects your

55:35

big scary bombs that you're spending a lot of mana

55:37

on. And

55:40

when you copy something

55:42

with Oololek, you pay the two colorless

55:44

to copy it. It copies a thing

55:46

on the stack. If they counter it

55:48

on top of you copying it, you

55:51

don't get the copy or the spell.

55:53

So turning off that and making it

55:55

so that you can't get blown out

55:57

by a copy effect or by a counter

55:59

effect. is actually really, really good in

56:01

addition to just giving your big scary things haste.

56:03

Haste, yes. Yeah. I

56:06

think, yeah, when you're investing so much mana

56:08

into your synergy, it's important to be able

56:10

to find ways to protect that, and I

56:12

thought this did that very well. It's also

56:14

a good example of what you can do

56:16

with Eldrazis when you add five colors. You

56:18

can play these staply enchantments that aren't actually

56:21

in the stack. They really did

56:23

stick to a lot of Eldrazi-themed things,

56:25

a lot of colorless spells in general,

56:27

and that has a lot to

56:29

do with why the mana base works so

56:31

well, but you can also

56:33

make space for really powerful colored

56:36

permanents that are just going to make the

56:38

deck work better. Yeah.

56:41

Up next, a classic, especially when you're playing

56:43

scary things, it's Swift Foot Boots. Swift

56:46

Foot Boots are only, oh, Rhythm of the Wild was $4.

56:49

Swift Foot Boots are $2.25. You

56:52

do have sort of a key pin

56:54

in your strategy in your commander, so

56:56

having Swift Foot Boots to protect them

56:58

is always super important, but when

57:01

you stick a big 10-10

57:03

with Trample and Annihilator, give

57:06

him some shoes. He needs some shoes. He'll

57:08

figure out what tentacles to put him on.

57:11

He'll figure that out. That's not your

57:13

problem. Being able to move

57:15

haste around and make sure that you can

57:17

deploy threats and they can attack right away is

57:19

so, so powerful, like we've talked about, and Swift

57:21

Foot Boots have a lot of utility. Up

57:26

next, even more Eldrazi. Yeah, things that

57:28

are getting, we have the more the merrier. Get

57:32

them in here. At $1.50, we

57:34

have Reflections of Lit Jara. It's another

57:36

enchantment. It's four colorless and a blue,

57:39

and it says, as Reflections of Lit

57:41

Jara enters the battlefield, choose a creature

57:43

type. Eldrazi. Whenever you

57:45

cast a spell of the

57:48

chosen type, copy that spell,

57:51

which is very important here. So

57:53

this does go on the stack. It's

57:56

a cast trigger whenever you cast a spell

57:58

of the chosen type. So if you have...

58:00

Ulu'lek and Reflections of Liyara on the battlefield,

58:03

Reflections of Liyara won't copy

58:05

the triggered ability, won't copy

58:07

your cast spells, but it will give

58:09

you an additional copy of the Eldrazi

58:11

you're already copying with Ulu'lek. So you're

58:13

just... Does it kind of copy copy

58:15

copy? It's like... So

58:18

you have Ulu'lek on the battlefield, Reflections

58:20

of Liyara on the battlefield. You cast

58:23

any Eldrazi. Let's just say it's a...

58:26

Flaring Flesh. Oh god, that one's so confusing. I'm

58:28

so sorry. You cast a glaring

58:30

Fleshraker. This is the two in a colorless one

58:32

that we mentioned before. You get a cast trigger from

58:35

Reflections of Liyara, that goes on the stack. Then

58:37

you get the copy trigger from Ulu'lek,

58:39

that goes on the stack. You can

58:42

pay that to colorless, and that'll copy

58:44

the copy effect from Reflections of Liyara

58:46

and the glaring Fleshraker itself. So

58:49

now we have four copies of just that creature

58:51

spell, is that right? So you get... Yes.

58:54

I'm following. That creature spell,

58:56

but including the non-token one.

58:59

It is worth noting, and we'll

59:02

talk about it a little bit more

59:04

later, but Ulu'lek copies the spell, as

59:06

does Reflections of Liyara. Copies the spell

59:08

on the stack. When

59:10

you copy a permanent spell, the

59:13

copy spell becomes a token.

59:15

It does not count as

59:17

creating a token. This

59:20

is not a great deck for your parallel

59:23

lives or your anointed processions or anything that's

59:25

going to... Primal Vigor. Primal Vigor, yeah. If

59:27

you're copying, if it says when you would

59:29

create a token, create an additional one,

59:31

you're not creating a token here.

59:35

Your spell is becoming a

59:37

token. And that sounds

59:39

really hairy, and that's because

59:42

it is. It

59:44

was in our Rules Commander players get

59:46

wrong episode, and it continues

59:48

to be just so tricky. It's tricky.

59:52

Yeah. We'll talk about

59:54

why it matters a little bit later, but yeah.

59:58

Reflections of Liyara lets you pop off. you

1:00:00

have Oolulek and reflections of Lil

1:00:02

Yarrow. Oh my gosh. Any

1:00:04

one spell is a nightmare. You just get so

1:00:06

much more value. We've

1:00:09

got one more ad here.

1:00:13

And it's just more card advantage. When

1:00:16

you're sticking huge threats, you always want to be

1:00:18

able to follow it up with another one because

1:00:20

they have to be able to interact with the

1:00:22

Eldrazi deck, and your opponents will know that. This

1:00:25

one is Conduit of Ruin. This

1:00:27

is a $6 card. It's also a $6 mana

1:00:30

Eldrazi. It's a 5-5. When you

1:00:33

cast Conduit of Ruin, you may

1:00:35

search your library for a colorless creature card

1:00:37

with converted mana cost seven or greater, reveal

1:00:39

it, then shuffle your library and put that

1:00:42

card on top of it. The first creature

1:00:44

spell you cast each turn costs two

1:00:46

generic mana less to cast. So

1:00:48

there's a lot of great things going on here. You

1:00:51

can double the cast trigger, which means you get

1:00:53

to stack the top of your library with two

1:00:55

big scary bombs. But then if you copy the

1:00:58

Conduit of Ruin itself, you

1:01:00

first creature spell you cast each turn

1:01:03

costs four less to cast. That

1:01:05

leaves you with a ton of extra mana

1:01:07

to keep casting Eldrazi, but also to copy

1:01:09

stuff with your luck. $6,

1:01:13

but definitely the kind of Eldrazi that

1:01:16

you want in this deck. Yeah, and

1:01:18

I think when I did the numbers,

1:01:20

it was about 13 Eldrazi cards that

1:01:22

were seven CMC or more, roughly. So

1:01:24

there's a good amount to play with.

1:01:26

Plenty of targets there. And

1:01:29

it just means that you're just going to go runner, runner,

1:01:31

runner, which is so scary in an

1:01:33

Eldrazi deck. OK,

1:01:35

that brings your total. So those are the 10 cards

1:01:37

we're adding to the deck. It gets the total value

1:01:39

of this upgrade to $35. Let's

1:01:42

go. There's plenty. Get some foils.

1:01:45

Make it shiny. More. Start building the

1:01:47

spawn in Scion deck two. You've

1:01:50

got extra room in this budget. So those

1:01:52

are the 10 we're going to add. Make it a

1:01:54

little bit trickier. Make it a little bit safer. Make

1:01:56

it a little bit faster. Faster. What

1:02:00

about to cut? What are we taking out of

1:02:02

here? Well, before we go to cuts, I want to

1:02:04

talk about the main set. Oh, yeah. We're going

1:02:06

to talk about it here. So

1:02:09

the Modern Horizons main set

1:02:11

is full of Eldrazis. So

1:02:14

there's obviously a lot of cards that if you

1:02:16

open or if you want to pick up, you

1:02:19

can put right into this deck, and they're going to be

1:02:21

really, really powerful. We don't tend

1:02:24

to include them in upgrades because we don't know

1:02:26

what they're worth at this time. We don't have

1:02:28

their prices. But we do want to mention them

1:02:30

because there's some really cool stuff that you can

1:02:32

do with the main

1:02:35

set and this pre-con. Yeah, there's definitely some synergies

1:02:37

I noticed. And I was like, oh, I'd love

1:02:39

to add this, but we don't have a price

1:02:41

for it. It doesn't quite work

1:02:43

with our budget upgrade style. But

1:02:45

if you open it, or you do see it, do

1:02:48

it. It's going to

1:02:50

be good. This first one is

1:02:52

wild. It's Echoes of Eternity. It's

1:02:54

three colorless, colorless, colorless. And

1:02:57

it's an Eldrazi Kindred enchantment.

1:03:00

If a triggered ability of a

1:03:02

colorless spell you control or another

1:03:04

colorless permanent you control triggers, that

1:03:07

ability triggers an additional time. Whenever

1:03:09

you cast a colorless spell, copy

1:03:11

it. You may choose new targets

1:03:14

for the copy. So it's another

1:03:16

Ululek that can be

1:03:18

copied by Ululek. Yep. You

1:03:22

could put this on the stack and copy

1:03:24

it with Ululek. And now, any time Ululek

1:03:27

triggers, you trigger three times. And

1:03:29

you can copy those things. If you

1:03:31

pay to copy it, you copy it.

1:03:34

Yeah, that's where my brain goes. It's

1:03:38

a lot of value. You

1:03:40

do have to pay the colorless a lot.

1:03:43

But it does mean if you cast a

1:03:45

glaring flesh raker, you get the opportunity to

1:03:47

copy it three times if

1:03:49

you've copied the Echoes of Eternity. And

1:03:52

you can see how it would be a problem.

1:03:54

Oh, that's right. You can copy Echoes of Eternity

1:03:56

with Ululek. Yeah, because it's

1:03:58

an Eldrazi spell. There's

1:04:00

so much. Or another, it doesn't copy itself,

1:04:03

okay, that's good. Yeah, it's a real headache,

1:04:05

but it's definitely gonna be good. Yes. If

1:04:09

your opponent puts this on the board, kill

1:04:11

it. Run away. But

1:04:13

they're gonna have two. Like, if

1:04:15

you Oolalaak, there's gonna be two

1:04:18

of these. That's sort

1:04:20

of the crazy thing about this deck, is

1:04:22

like, yeah, you're sticking huge problems that need to

1:04:24

be removed, and targeted removal is not very good

1:04:26

against you. As long as you're playing in

1:04:28

a curve that you

1:04:30

can be copying every single spell that you're casting.

1:04:34

Right. There's even more, believe it or not. We

1:04:37

talked about haste being such a big

1:04:40

part of this deck's upgrade, and this

1:04:42

next one's perfect. Yeah, it's an Eldrazi

1:04:44

line breaker, which I love. Football.

1:04:47

It's a football player. Play her. But

1:04:50

I guess with what it does, it makes sense. It's

1:04:52

one colorless and a red for a 3-3 Eldrazi with

1:04:56

devoid and trample, but it also says at

1:04:58

the beginning of combat on your turn, target

1:05:00

creature you control gains haste, and

1:05:02

gets X plus O until end

1:05:04

of turn, where X is the number of Eldrazi you

1:05:07

control. So it makes your

1:05:09

threats fast, and it pumps them for

1:05:12

three mana. If you

1:05:14

have two of them, it gives two things haste,

1:05:16

the copy and the original. It's

1:05:18

really powerful in this deck. Oh yeah, it can give itself haste,

1:05:21

that's right. Oh yeah, it can give each shell, yeah. To

1:05:24

target creature, it can give itself haste, it can give

1:05:27

the copy haste, and then next turn, when you copy

1:05:29

something else, it can give both of those haste. If

1:05:31

you get to keep both the brothers. And then with

1:05:33

Echoes of Eternity, everything

1:05:35

gets haste. Oh my God. This

1:05:40

next one's wild. Jimmy, no,

1:05:44

not this one. This one's wild though.

1:05:46

It's Kozilex on ceiling, two and a

1:05:48

blue for an enchantment with devoid. Whenever

1:05:50

you cast a creature spell with mana

1:05:52

value four, or five, or six, make

1:05:54

two Eldrazi, Sion spawn creature tokens, and

1:05:56

then whenever you cast a spell with

1:05:58

mana value seven, Draw

1:06:00

three cards, draw three

1:06:03

cards. And that's a

1:06:05

cast trigger that you can copy with Ulu'lek. That's

1:06:08

right! You can

1:06:10

draw six cards if you copy a

1:06:12

seven drop. Because

1:06:14

these are cast spells. Can you cast this

1:06:17

one? Because it's not an Eldrazi enchantment. So

1:06:19

this one, you can't copy the permanent itself,

1:06:21

but the cast triggers you can copy. So

1:06:23

whenever you cast a creature spell with mana

1:06:25

value 4, 5, 6, or 7,

1:06:27

that'll go on the stack. And as long as

1:06:29

Ulu'lek's trigger, you stack that on top of it,

1:06:32

then you can copy all of the things underneath

1:06:34

it. So you'll be able to draw six, or

1:06:36

you'll make four spawns. Seems

1:06:39

good. Or three mana. Technically five, I

1:06:41

guess you're copying something, yeah. This is a great

1:06:43

proactive thing to do before your commander comes down,

1:06:46

too, which is great. Yeah. There's

1:06:48

really great ones. Noldrifter is very good in the deck.

1:06:51

Sewing Mycospawn is very good in the deck.

1:06:53

These are just good Eldrazi sort of nuts

1:06:55

and bolts. But we would be remiss if

1:06:58

we didn't mention Ugan's Binding. Do

1:07:00

you want to read this one? I guess. Ugan's

1:07:02

Binding, it's great. It's two in a

1:07:05

blue for an instant that has Devoid.

1:07:07

And it says, return target non-land permanent

1:07:09

you don't control to its owner's hand. But of

1:07:11

course, it also has a nice chunk of text

1:07:14

that says, whenever you cast a colorless spell with

1:07:16

mana value 7 or greater, you

1:07:18

may exile Ugan's Binding from your graveyard. When

1:07:21

you do, return each non-land permanent you

1:07:23

don't control to its owner's hand. So

1:07:26

it's Psychonic Rift. Yeah. From

1:07:29

the graveyard. Yeah. From the graveyard. It's a

1:07:31

Traigor ability Psychonic Rift. You can't even copy it.

1:07:33

You can't even counter it. And even if

1:07:35

they do have a stifle, you

1:07:37

could copy it. Yeah, you

1:07:39

could copy it. Right? And

1:07:42

it acts, you may exile it if you

1:07:44

do. No, you cannot copy it. Because it

1:07:46

will be gone. You won't be able to exile it twice. But

1:07:50

it's really, really powerful. Yeah. It's not

1:07:52

an Eldrazi spell. It's self, but the

1:07:54

fact that this is another one-sided

1:07:57

board wipe for Eldrazi decks

1:07:59

is. Unbelievable. Yeah. Really,

1:08:02

really powerful. So all of

1:08:04

those would be great to add to this deck.

1:08:06

There's even more in the main set. We couldn't

1:08:08

spend a ton of time on cards that we

1:08:10

don't have prices for. But definitely go through MH3

1:08:12

and see if there's any cards

1:08:14

you want to add to Ulu'lek. There's some really good

1:08:16

ones. We have added

1:08:19

10 cards though. We are going to cut 10 cards

1:08:22

to make space for them.

1:08:25

Let's get into it. This first

1:08:27

one's a new card. It's mutated

1:08:29

cultist. It's two in a black for an Eldrazi

1:08:31

horror. It's a one, three. Whenever you cast the

1:08:34

spell, remove all counters. Promote to one target,

1:08:36

permanent or opponent. The next spell you cast

1:08:38

this turn costs one last to cast for

1:08:40

each counter. Removed this way, it's a one,

1:08:42

three with Deathtouch. You're

1:08:45

not guaranteed to have any counters. Right, you're

1:08:47

not guaranteed that someone's gonna have counters. And

1:08:50

it just feels very, very

1:08:52

specifically situational. I think this

1:08:55

is a card designed to play all of the

1:08:57

MH3 decks against each other. And it's supposed to

1:08:59

steal all the energy counters from the energy deck.

1:09:02

But otherwise it's a weird combo thing you could do

1:09:04

with dark depths. Either way, it's not very good in

1:09:06

this deck. So we're gonna take it out. Up

1:09:09

next we have Warping Whale, which

1:09:12

is one and a colorless. It's an

1:09:14

instant. It says choose one, exile target

1:09:16

creature with power or toughness,

1:09:18

one or less. Or you can

1:09:20

choose counter target, source, respell. Or create

1:09:23

a one, one colorless Eldrazi sound creature

1:09:25

token with sacrifice to add colorless. It

1:09:29

was a fine card back in the day

1:09:31

when we didn't have much to play with.

1:09:33

But now we do have other options that

1:09:35

are just as good. And it kind of

1:09:37

just takes up space. We have

1:09:39

five colors. We can do normal counterspells

1:09:41

if we want. Yeah, exactly. You

1:09:44

don't need to mess with the colorless ones

1:09:46

anymore. Yeah, and it doesn't have to be

1:09:48

as situational. It's

1:09:50

good if you don't have access to any of the colors, but we

1:09:53

have access to all of them. The

1:09:55

next one is Skittering Invasion. This is

1:09:57

a seven mana Kindred Sorcery Eldrazi. You

1:10:00

make five, zero, one spawns.

1:10:03

And that's it. And if you copy it, you make 10. I

1:10:06

put on my note here, I can't think of a situation

1:10:08

where that is what I want to spend seven mana on.

1:10:11

I mean, if you have a whole lot of flesh

1:10:13

rakers, sure, yes. Then you just want to cast any

1:10:15

Eldrazi. So I don't think that

1:10:17

this is great for this deck. Maybe if you're

1:10:19

building Azlask, that is a

1:10:22

good position for that card.

1:10:26

Up next. Up next is Vile, the

1:10:28

Vile Redeemer. The Vile Redeemer. What is

1:10:30

he redeeming? And why is

1:10:32

it Vile? For two and

1:10:34

a green, you have a 3-3 Eldrazi with

1:10:36

Devoid and Flash. When you cast

1:10:39

this spell, you may pay colorless. If you

1:10:41

do, create a 1-1 colorless Eldrazi scion

1:10:44

creature token for each non-token creature that died

1:10:46

under your control this turn. So that's where

1:10:49

it kind of takes a turn. It's

1:10:51

like that died. And you're like, oh. We

1:10:54

don't even have stack outlets in this to

1:10:56

really utilize that. It is a Flash creature,

1:10:58

which is nice. You can use it with

1:11:00

Ullelec. But the fact

1:11:03

that it doesn't actually do anything, and we've

1:11:05

added better versions of it. So it doesn't

1:11:07

need to be in the deck anymore. This

1:11:11

is a big old boy. It's Ullemog's

1:11:13

Dreadsire, 10 mana Eldrazi with

1:11:15

Vigilance. It's a 10-10. It is Ward's

1:11:17

Sack of Permanent with Mana Value 1 or greater.

1:11:19

And it says tap. Create a

1:11:22

10-10 Eldrazi creature token. Which

1:11:25

I mean, you could have some fun shenanigans with

1:11:27

Ullelec. But at the same time,

1:11:29

someone could just chomp a

1:11:31

mana dork to the ward, cause

1:11:33

it'd be like, go away. Yeah.

1:11:36

This is like, it doesn't have trample. It

1:11:38

doesn't have flying. It has vigilance. So you could attack with it.

1:11:40

And then you could tap. And you can make more 10-10s. But

1:11:43

it's a little bit of a slow engine. And we're trying

1:11:45

to make this deck more explosive. So

1:11:47

this isn't exactly contributing to that. Also, it's

1:11:50

10 mana. Yes, which is

1:11:52

a lot. That's bunches of mana. That's

1:11:55

why we put Flayer in instead for 10. Up

1:11:58

next. All right. We have six. A sifter of

1:12:00

skulls for three and a black, it

1:12:02

is a four, three Eldrazi with Devoid.

1:12:04

Whenever another non-token creature you control dies,

1:12:06

create a one, one colorless Eldrazi scion

1:12:08

creature token. So again, we're kind of

1:12:11

taking out a lot of the scion

1:12:14

synergies just because there wasn't enough of it

1:12:16

to give it what it

1:12:18

needs. It's again for the sub-commander, I think.

1:12:20

It also only triggers when non-token things die.

1:12:22

Yeah. So it's like you have to figure

1:12:24

out, I guess that's only good in a

1:12:26

board wipe or when people remove your thing.

1:12:28

We do not have sac outlets for our

1:12:30

non-tokens in this deck other than I guess

1:12:32

he makes you sacrifice, is that correct? No.

1:12:36

Nope, I'm thinking one other thing. Whenever it dies, create

1:12:38

one. Yeah. Yeah. Hard

1:12:40

to make work in this deck. Up

1:12:43

next is Idol of Oblivion. This

1:12:46

is a two-man artifact that says tap, draw a

1:12:48

card, activate only if you created a token this

1:12:50

turn. Eight taps, sacrifice this, make

1:12:52

a 10-10 colorless Eldrazi creature token.

1:12:55

We're getting rid of a lot of

1:12:57

the spawn and scion stuff. This is

1:13:00

a less powerful draw engine. It

1:13:02

also specifies if you've created

1:13:05

a token this turn. I

1:13:07

don't believe this works if you've

1:13:09

just doubled a thing with your

1:13:11

commander. Because it's not creating the

1:13:13

token. It becomes a token. Interesting.

1:13:18

It's a little awkwardly situated in

1:13:20

this deck unless

1:13:22

you're really focusing on the spawns and scions

1:13:24

thing which we're obviously pulling out a lot

1:13:27

of that synergy. And

1:13:29

last but not least, we have Eldra. Oh, you

1:13:31

have two more actually. Oh, two more. That's right,

1:13:33

there's another page. Okay, there's like three more. Okay,

1:13:35

anyways, Eldrazi Displacer is out of here. It's

1:13:38

two and a white for a 3-3

1:13:40

Eldrazi with Devoid. It says, has

1:13:43

an activated ability of two and a colorless.

1:13:45

Exile another target creature, then return it to

1:13:47

the battlefield tapped under its owner's control. So

1:13:49

you can blink. We just don't

1:13:51

have a lot of ETB synergies to take advantage

1:13:53

of this. It's a great card.

1:13:55

Just not for the stack. It's

1:13:57

very powerful. But yeah, the... All

1:14:00

the Eldrazis in here have cast triggers, which

1:14:02

is one of the primary things. Up

1:14:05

next, we are cutting Aslask, the

1:14:08

Swelling Scourge. So

1:14:10

you can build him as a spawn

1:14:13

and scion deck. We're cutting a

1:14:15

lot of the spawn and scion stuff. Generally, we don't have

1:14:17

a lot of good ways to make stuff die, so

1:14:20

it's very difficult to get experience counters

1:14:23

on purpose in this deck, which

1:14:25

means that the activated ability is also not

1:14:27

that powerful. So Aslask

1:14:30

is going to go and can find

1:14:32

his own home. Yes, build a home

1:14:34

full of Eldrazi spawn. And

1:14:36

with it, he can take with him, suffer the

1:14:38

past. It's the last card we're cutting. It's X

1:14:41

in a black for an instant. It says, exile

1:14:43

X target cards from target players graveyard. For each

1:14:45

card exiled this way, that player loses one life

1:14:47

and you gain one life. If

1:14:51

they don't have anything in their graveyard, this really

1:14:53

doesn't do much. It is dead. Yeah. It

1:14:56

is dead. And graveyard hate

1:14:59

needs to be a little bit more

1:15:01

incidental than this. I don't often like

1:15:03

to dedicate a whole card to just

1:15:05

like, this is graveyard hate and it

1:15:07

only does that. Right. So

1:15:09

having a card that is dead most of the time,

1:15:11

unless your opponent is playing a graveyard deck and you

1:15:13

happen to have a whole bunch of Fanna, it's

1:15:17

just not worth a slot in most decks.

1:15:20

Cool. All right. Yeah, that's it. 10

1:15:22

cards in, 10 cards out. We've

1:15:25

streamlined the deck a little bit. We've lowered

1:15:27

the curve a little bit, made it a

1:15:30

little trickier. So you've got noodley

1:15:32

monsters surprise out of the sky.

1:15:35

Right. Eldrazis with flash is

1:15:37

very scary. It is. Eldrazis

1:15:40

with flash that copy. So

1:15:44

I want to talk about how this deck plays. Yeah. Now

1:15:47

that we've upgraded it. I

1:15:50

did want to mention that this is, it's

1:15:52

a five color mana base, but the fact that

1:15:54

so many of the cards have colorless mana

1:15:57

costs in them makes this a six color mana

1:15:59

base. So it is not

1:16:02

a, especially on

1:16:04

a pre-con budget, it is a

1:16:07

little hairy. But if

1:16:09

you keep it how it's built,

1:16:11

which is largely with colorless cards, using

1:16:14

colored mana only for when it's really

1:16:16

powerful, or only for one

1:16:18

pip, the

1:16:21

mana base will support it. But if

1:16:23

you're doing upgrades for this deck, I

1:16:25

wouldn't go wild adding like double green

1:16:27

or double white or any

1:16:30

of that kind of stuff, because it will make

1:16:32

your mana base more painful

1:16:35

and a little less functional. So

1:16:37

as much as we were saying that like put in,

1:16:40

you can put in really strong removal spells, you

1:16:42

can put in really strong engine pieces, make sure

1:16:45

that you're considering the mana base when you're doing

1:16:47

so. Yeah, and if anything, it's

1:16:49

an even exchange of what you're replacing it with

1:16:51

so that you don't mess with it too much.

1:16:53

That was something to be very mindful of just

1:16:55

because the creatures even,

1:16:57

all the creatures are all Drowzee types,

1:17:00

which I think is really important. And then there

1:17:02

are only one pip of each color each, like

1:17:04

you mentioned, which makes

1:17:07

it so that you can support it. And still,

1:17:09

because you still want to be able to use

1:17:11

Ule'lek's ability too. You want to have that extra

1:17:13

mana to copy, because that's kind of the key

1:17:15

thing there. Yeah, I would say

1:17:18

as soon as you get one color of

1:17:20

each color on the board, you're

1:17:22

basically functional in this deck. Like if you

1:17:24

have a blue source, a red source, a

1:17:26

green source, you'll be able to cast most

1:17:28

cards in your deck as long as you

1:17:31

have access to colorless mana. So

1:17:34

I wouldn't rely on too many double pip stuff,

1:17:36

certainly not any triple pip stuff. Just be

1:17:38

careful with what you're adding. Or

1:17:40

if you're adding, adjust the mana base accordingly.

1:17:43

Yeah. But with

1:17:45

the adds that we put in there, you should be

1:17:47

just fine. It didn't add

1:17:49

anything super extreme. Honestly, Richkar's expertise is

1:17:51

in the deck, and that's probably the

1:17:53

dodgiest spell in

1:17:56

terms of mana cost. Yeah. Okay,

1:17:59

so let's. Let's talk about how this deck plays. Because

1:18:02

it's a totally different curve than Eldrazi decks

1:18:04

have had in the past. It's

1:18:07

refreshing, in a way. I think it's

1:18:09

much faster than you expect. There's less

1:18:11

buildup, right? You on turn three at

1:18:13

earliest, maybe turn, can you do turn

1:18:15

two if you have like soul ring

1:18:17

into a Hedron, not

1:18:20

Hedron archive. Yeah, Hedron. Yeah, Hedron archive's

1:18:22

in here. Yeah. There's definitely

1:18:24

ways to get a ton of mana really, really fast.

1:18:27

Yeah. You would have to have

1:18:29

a very strong hand. Yeah. So

1:18:31

turn three, four, typically. If

1:18:33

you don't miss your land drops, it's very fast.

1:18:36

And you can start taking advantage of cards right

1:18:38

away. Because you have three drops, three

1:18:40

drop creatures, instead of investing more into

1:18:43

artifacts, which is what's very typical of

1:18:45

a Eldrazi deck. The nice thing about

1:18:47

this deck is, once Ulu'lek is on

1:18:49

the battlefield, he's going to be a

1:18:52

big part of your engine. But

1:18:54

your opponents are also going to have to worry about the threats

1:18:56

that you're dishing out. Because you're putting

1:18:58

out two at a time. So spending

1:19:00

targeted removal on Ulu'lek means they're leaving

1:19:03

your two threats alone. So

1:19:06

if you can follow up Ulu'lek with

1:19:08

a serious threat that sort of demands

1:19:10

answering, like even these five-fives with haste

1:19:12

and trample are going to start beating

1:19:14

people to death faster than they are

1:19:16

ready for, it'll

1:19:18

keep targeted removal away from Ulu'lek

1:19:21

and force them to deal with some of

1:19:23

the stuff that's showing up fast and threatening

1:19:25

more damage. But

1:19:28

you do have to protect the

1:19:30

boy. Yes. Zzz. Yeah. Zzz.

1:19:32

I'm not sure how many boys refused.

1:19:34

Protect them. Yeah.

1:19:38

And I don't know. I really enjoyed it.

1:19:40

Again, you said the curve looks high and

1:19:42

scary. But compared to a typical Eldrazi

1:19:46

colorless deck that you're slamming 11, 12 drops, it's

1:19:48

not that bad. Yeah,

1:19:52

it looks wilder

1:19:54

than it is. I will say that.

1:19:57

And it's because Ulu'lek's ability just lets

1:19:59

you. you slam a threat, slam

1:20:01

a threat, slam a threat. And they just

1:20:04

can't be picked off by targeted removal, which

1:20:06

is usually the risk of playing like eight

1:20:08

drops if somebody just hits it with a

1:20:10

one drop and then all your board progression

1:20:13

is gone. But the fact that

1:20:15

you can pay two extra mana and have two

1:20:17

of them, and now their targeted removal is worse

1:20:19

and you've effectively

1:20:22

double-swelled, it

1:20:24

just means that it

1:20:28

doesn't feel as bad when you're casting these huge

1:20:30

spells if you get two of them. Right. And

1:20:32

with the upgrades, it's even faster. We

1:20:35

have a lot more haste enablers and a

1:20:37

lot of creatures that really benefit

1:20:39

from being copied early on. So I think

1:20:41

it plays even faster. It's

1:20:44

also interesting when your curve is this

1:20:46

high. Card advantage is important because you

1:20:49

need more spells to cast and the selection

1:20:51

is helpful, but you're not going to be

1:20:53

able to dump your hand because the curve

1:20:55

is quite high. So as long

1:20:58

as you're getting like a couple cards at

1:21:00

a time, you don't need to draw 10 cards

1:21:04

because you won't be able to deploy them. Everything

1:21:07

is six mana. True. And you want

1:21:09

to be able to copy them. So as long as you have

1:21:11

a steady stream of cards, you're drawing one extra card every so

1:21:13

often, two extra cards every so often, you're

1:21:15

going to have enough threats to keep following up

1:21:17

Oololek and continue to pressure your opponents. Yeah, I

1:21:19

think that's a good point because that's one of

1:21:21

the other things that makes this deck sturdy

1:21:24

is how I would say it. Because typically in

1:21:26

a game, you kind of peter out at some

1:21:28

point. And I think this deck with the copying,

1:21:30

you are able to kind of slow it and

1:21:32

keep a steady flow of

1:21:34

threats each turn while

1:21:37

your opponents hopefully peter out. Yeah. Yeah,

1:21:39

I mean, they're certainly going to run out of

1:21:41

removal. Exactly. Where

1:21:44

is that board wipe? Yeah,

1:21:47

I think this deck is really well built.

1:21:50

I think it's going to be cool to

1:21:52

see a whole new version of Eldrazi running

1:21:54

around. Eldrazi Taipul

1:21:56

hasn't necessarily been that

1:21:58

possible. because it's just more built

1:22:01

around ramping to Kozilek or

1:22:03

ramping to some individual Eldrazi threat.

1:22:05

And this is, you know. This

1:22:07

is a stampede. Yeah,

1:22:10

and it's gross and

1:22:12

wiggly and pointy. Wiggly and vile

1:22:14

and glaring. Yeah, you're

1:22:16

not really sure where one ends and the other

1:22:18

begins. It's all yucky. Okay.

1:22:22

To the listeners, what do you guys think about

1:22:24

this pre-con? Have you gotten to play it yet?

1:22:26

Any cards that we missed in this upgrade that

1:22:28

you were like, of course, you should put this

1:22:30

card in. And any cards that we suggested to

1:22:32

add or take out that you disagree with. We're

1:22:34

always excited to hear your opinions. If

1:22:37

you're building Aslassk, tell us how you're

1:22:39

doing that. We're

1:22:41

in the comments, we're reading those. So

1:22:43

if you have feedback about the upgrade,

1:22:45

or if you have feedback for somebody

1:22:47

else doing this upgrade, put

1:22:49

it in the comments or leave it on the

1:22:51

Architect link. We will post

1:22:54

an Architect link of this upgrade so

1:22:56

you can see it all in one

1:22:58

place. If you

1:23:00

want to pick up any of the singles

1:23:02

or sealed product we talked about today, if

1:23:05

you want to get the Eldrazi Incursion deck

1:23:07

or any of these upgrades, or even the

1:23:09

new cards from MH3, go to cardkingdom.com/command. Card

1:23:11

Kingdom has a huge selection of magic cards.

1:23:13

We're magic players, we're gonna buy a

1:23:15

lot of magic cards, especially when a new exciting set

1:23:17

comes out like Modern Horizons 3. There's

1:23:19

a lot of really powerful cards,

1:23:21

which means you're gonna be doing a lot of upgrading,

1:23:24

which means you need a big old

1:23:26

stack of singles. So go over there, get everything

1:23:28

that you need in one place and

1:23:30

you can trust them to ship it to you safely

1:23:33

in a package wrapped up in a little

1:23:35

plastic box with a packing peanut and a

1:23:37

token for your trouble. We

1:23:39

trust Card Kingdom with our card collection

1:23:41

over here, and if you do so

1:23:43

as well, you're supporting the show while

1:23:46

you do it. Again, cardkingdom.com/command. And

1:23:48

once those cards are in your hand, you're

1:23:50

gonna need to protect them, sleeve them up, put

1:23:53

them in a deck box on a themed play

1:23:55

mat, get the dice that match. If you're

1:23:57

building Eldrazi, you can get this new Emrakul

1:23:59

play mat. She's back, she's cool, she

1:24:01

has madness now. Madness, I tell

1:24:03

you. Being

1:24:05

in the moon that long has driven

1:24:07

her crazy. There's a lot of sweet

1:24:09

stuff that is built around MH3. I

1:24:12

really like the portrait art cards that are

1:24:14

back in MH3, and they've got it on

1:24:16

playmats and on binders. Check them out, pick

1:24:18

them up. There's sort of like cool pop-art-y

1:24:20

thing going on, and you can do so

1:24:23

while supporting the show at

1:24:25

ultrapro.com/command. All

1:24:27

right, we've talked a lot about magic. Let's

1:24:30

take some time to talk about something outside the world of

1:24:32

magic real quick before we go. Yeah.

1:24:34

What are you doing right now? What

1:24:36

am I doing? I just finished

1:24:38

an anime that I really enjoyed

1:24:40

and highly recommend. It's

1:24:42

called Bochi the Rock. So

1:24:45

it's about a girl, a high

1:24:47

schooler, who has very

1:24:50

much social anxiety, which I

1:24:52

think a lot I can relate with, honestly.

1:24:55

I'm sure, yeah. And she has very, very

1:24:58

much social anxiety to the point where she

1:25:00

isolates herself a lot, right? But she loves

1:25:02

the guitar, and she gets into it. And

1:25:05

basically, it's about her journey working

1:25:07

through her anxiety, while also being

1:25:10

an awesome guitar player and rocker. And

1:25:13

the really cool thing about this anime

1:25:15

is that it's not afraid to have

1:25:17

fun. They do nods to other animes,

1:25:20

and they go really hard on the

1:25:22

animations for her anxiety. When she starts

1:25:25

thinking about a situation and how it

1:25:27

could go, for

1:25:29

anyone who's experienced that, and you're like, oh my gosh, there's

1:25:31

gonna be ex people here, and this is what's gonna happen,

1:25:33

you kind of go in your head and trip out, it

1:25:36

does this really cool animation for it,

1:25:38

and it's different every time. They've

1:25:40

nodded to Dragon Ball, JoJo's,

1:25:43

it's great. And I highly recommend it. It's

1:25:45

just a lot of fun, and it's wholesome.

1:25:48

It's a wholesome anime that

1:25:50

I think a lot of people can relate to. And

1:25:52

I highly, yeah, I recommend it. Watch Bochi the Rock.

1:25:54

I love that. I mean, when

1:25:56

I've watched anime, it's often when I just

1:25:58

need something on, and it's... I need something

1:26:01

pleasant and I want something watchable and

1:26:03

it's nice that it's relatable and beautiful

1:26:05

too. Very cool. All right,

1:26:08

before we go, we're gonna say a

1:26:10

big thank you to our amazing team

1:26:12

1:26:31

it. Thanks for having me. Yeah. And

1:26:33

thanks to Rachel for putting this all together.

1:26:35

Oh my goodness. Also me. Yes. Eldrazis,

1:26:38

they're rainbow now. Yes. All

1:26:41

the colors, yum yum. Thank you

1:27:20

1:27:23

that out. Ooh,

1:27:25

I was trying to taste the

1:27:27

rainbow. No, doesn't do it. No,

1:27:30
