1:20
The. of America, N.A. member, FDSE. Hey everybody,
1:22
welcome to the Dungeon Cast. I'm Brian. And
1:24
I'm William. And we talk about
1:26
all things tabletop role playing games. And
1:29
today we're talking about Elemental Myrmidons, also
1:31
known as Elemental Archons. One,
1:33
two, three, four. Hey
1:36
Brian. Hey Will.
1:39
How you doing? I
1:42
think we're like 50% on starting the episode these days.
1:48
Yeah, yeah. It's true. Just trying to
1:50
shake things up. It's too exciting. We're
1:52
too hype at the beginning. I like
1:54
the year of the Elemental. I like,
1:57
I'm very excited to say Myrmidons. a
2:00
cool word. I
2:02
love it when a fourth edition
2:04
thing gets transferred into Fivi. Fivi loves
2:06
to disguise certain 4-E elements as its
2:08
own new and different thing and definitely
2:10
not that older thing everyone hated all
2:12
the time. And this time all they
2:15
had to do was change the name. 4-E
2:17
introduced armored elemental soldiers known as the
2:19
Elemental Archons. Fivi now calls them Elemental
2:21
Myrmidons. Either way a cool name for
2:23
a cool creature. Oh okay so they're
2:26
not like mermaids or something like that?
2:28
No. Are you familiar with what a
2:30
mermaidon is in real life? Myrmidons were
2:32
my understanding as a set of Greek
2:35
warriors that specialized in jumping
2:37
off the boats and getting right into the
2:39
fight. Oh cool. No I think Achilles led
2:41
Myrmidons. Oh sick yeah maybe. Let
2:43
me just blow the dust off of these middle
2:45
school memories. I know right. I
2:48
learned about Greek mythology and stuff.
2:50
Right. So elemental Myrmidons, otherwise
2:53
known as elemental archons, are a
2:55
variety of elementals created by conjuring
2:57
and binding elementals into ritually created
3:00
suits of armors to
3:02
act as servile weapons of war. Sick
3:04
okay. Elemental Myrmidons are
3:06
of roughly human shape but
3:09
typically are slightly larger in size though they
3:11
can be even larger as their size is
3:13
determined by the size of the armor
3:15
they are bound to. They are typically
3:17
composed almost entirely of a single substance
3:19
be an element or para element though
3:22
some can be a combination of elements. Only
3:25
earth myrmidons are seen to have legs on
3:27
their lower body others simply have a single
3:29
large mass of the element they are composed
3:31
of. Okay. Anyone who's fully bald or you
3:33
get three into act three probably had a
3:35
lot of experiences archons or
3:38
myrmidons because you can summon
3:40
them at higher levels and
3:42
they are way worth summoning so if you have
3:44
your wizard you should just summon those
3:46
mother fuckers because they're great. Oh cool. So
3:49
it's just like inhabited armor almost? It's
3:51
basically inhab- well you might want to
3:53
pull up an image but essentially it's
3:55
kind of like inhabited armor it still
3:57
counts as elemental it's essentially an element.
4:00
elemental given a little bit more form
4:03
and structure and then of course given actual
4:05
weapons and armor and we're gonna get into
4:08
the Creation and stuff. Yeah, just a bunch
4:10
of Greek and Roman shit. So yeah, you
4:12
need to put elemental you need to put
4:14
elemental if you Okay, so it's clear that
4:17
they are elemental. Yes in very much, but
4:19
they are wearing armor So you're saying there
4:21
are fixed to these armored pieces indeed. Yes.
4:23
Very stylistic. Very yeah So
4:26
all meridons wear thick armor
4:28
typically of plate variety These
4:30
not only protect them against attacks but contain
4:32
their form and are integral to their being
4:34
after some time They are capable of removing
4:36
this armor replacing it with something else But
4:38
many never see any need to do so
4:40
when a murmur don is killed their armor
4:42
is all that remains on them Yeah And
4:44
it would be really cool if fivey released
4:46
like some murmur don armor magic items that
4:48
you could give your players That'd be awesome.
4:51
Oh like an ex like there was a
4:53
living creature inside of this piece Yeah,
4:55
just like, you know, I just feel like
4:58
just fire. Yeah, exactly something like that. Yeah.
5:00
Yeah, exactly. Okay So in
5:02
time and memorial opposing the gods was
5:04
the original sole purpose of the Archon's
5:07
mermaidons highly intelligent elemental creatures
5:09
Archon's served as soldiers and leaders in
5:11
the armies of the primordial When
5:14
the gods brought their armies of angels exarch
5:16
and exalted beings to fight the primordial in
5:18
the dawn war the primordial responded by Creating
5:20
their own soldiers from the elemental foundations of
5:22
their home plane Okay, we
5:24
can do that too. Yes The primordial
5:27
is already had great beasts and chaotic
5:29
elementals that were being used as pure weapons
5:31
But they needed more reliable and inventive creatures
5:33
to populate and lead their armies Archon's
5:36
were gifted with a degree of cunning
5:38
not found in other primordial creations each
5:40
Archon is a dangerous opponent Drawing
5:43
on unrestrained combat prowess the keen mind
5:46
of a veteran soldier and an elemental
5:48
weapon that vanishes when its wielder falls
5:50
That's fucking cool. You can like have
5:53
really cool weapons that the enemy doesn't get
5:55
to pick up if they you know, yeah
5:57
I found a soldier right? I just
5:59
thought of smoke beasts from last episode?
6:01
So the beast, but yeah. The
6:03
beast, you can just send like
6:06
a flock of sootbirds to like,
6:08
suicide mission into like a battalion,
6:10
just like a flock of ravens
6:12
overhead. And they're just like crashing
6:14
down exploding, setting up the place.
6:16
Yep. And then a fire elemental of
6:18
one of these myrmidons can like flame up the smoke
6:21
and explode it. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, that'd
6:23
be cool. So in
6:25
order to create the Archons, the primordial
6:27
studied nature in the elemental chaos. They
6:30
then found several elemental creatures were
6:32
wild elementals and split them apart
6:34
into their components. Finally, they reshaped
6:36
them, forging the elementals into Archons
6:38
through intentional creation. The use
6:40
of Archons was initially successful and might have
6:42
won the primordial of the war as they
6:45
were produced in nearly limitless numbers, but the
6:47
gods discovered the secret of their creation and
6:49
began focusing relentless assaults on the special foundries
6:51
where they were made. Oh. Yeah,
6:54
it's history. Okay, I mean, it's all history, but yeah, sure. Fake
6:58
history. My favorite
7:00
kind. At some point, Ephreaths
7:02
managed to steal the secrets of Archon
7:04
creation from the primordial and form and
7:06
from them, this knowledge eventually spread across
7:08
the plains. After the
7:10
Dawn War ended, an untold number of elemental
7:12
myrmidons remained having no master to serve. Some
7:15
were quickly snatched up by powerful forces in the
7:17
elemental chaos. While those that remained free took up
7:19
the life of mercenary work. Okay.
7:24
Sorry, I made a fire, but can I
7:26
deliver this package? Their
7:28
mercenary work, so it's going to be more
7:30
like combat related. Okay. But maybe there's
7:33
that one guy who's like, you know, I'll take anything. I'm
7:37
just trying to get experience. An heir
7:39
myrmidon doing, you know, the package delivery.
7:41
That's pretty cool. That is pretty cool.
7:43
During the elemental evil crisis on Tyril,
7:46
elemental myrmidons were utilized by members of each of
7:48
the four elemental cults responsible for the crisis. The
7:50
cult of Black Earth, the cult of the crushing
7:53
wave, the cult of the eternal flame, and the
7:55
cult of the howling hatred. Okay. That's
7:57
the Anci Ben's favorite cult. It is. It
8:00
is literally his favorite cult. It's
8:03
actually his favorite cult. I
8:05
just love the way they fucking scream. They're
8:07
his cult. So many Archons
8:09
fight for the memorials that remain,
8:13
or some other elemental power, be they god
8:15
or archamental. They serve mainly
8:17
as soldiers and officers in their armies, but
8:19
also as special agents and shock troops. In
8:22
addition, Archons turn up in the service
8:24
of lesser elemental princes and powerful beings
8:26
that roam the elemental chaos, including the
8:28
4th edition cosmology to
8:31
high ranking demons of the Abyss. So,
8:33
before he mixes up the Abyss and
8:35
the elemental chaos so they get involved.
8:37
I think that's pretty cool. I like
8:39
it. It works. They're chaotic? Yeah.
8:41
In 4E, it's much more about law
8:43
versus chaos than about good versus evil.
8:47
More than just mighty warriors, Archons engage
8:49
in unorthodox tactics to take down their
8:51
enemies. For example, a
8:53
squad of Archon assassins might burst through a
8:55
planar portal to ambush a target's carriage as
8:57
it travels between towns, or
9:00
a team of Archons sent to intimidate the
9:02
locals might appear during a violent earthquake or
9:04
ride in on rushing floodwaters for greater effect.
9:06
That's fucking cool. It's terrifying. Although
9:09
Archons were created for battle, they also
9:11
excel in leadership roles. Would-be
9:14
heroes might be surprised to find that the head
9:16
of a band of elemental cultists is an Archon
9:18
put in place by a higher power. Regardless
9:21
of whether Archons are dispatched to fight
9:23
or lead, they take full advantage of
9:25
their elemental connections to get the job
9:27
done. So how deep are the personalities
9:29
that they have? Are they like actual? It's
9:31
a very interesting question. I want to say they
9:33
are not quite as deep as like
9:36
a real actual person, but
9:38
they are much more deep
9:41
than your average elemental. Notice
9:44
the phrasing here of they excel
9:46
in leadership, would-be heroes might be
9:48
surprised to find that the head of an elemental cultist
9:50
is an Archon put in place
9:52
by a higher power. So an Archon isn't
9:54
going to naturally take charge of a cult,
9:56
but if a higher power puts them there,
9:58
they will then die. do the job. Okay.
10:01
Otherwise don't have like ambitions of their own.
10:03
Yeah. So it's this weird kind of in
10:06
between. This is AI before AI. Yeah. I
10:08
would say I guess they're kind of similar
10:10
to have you ever played a there's a
10:12
video game called Detroit Becoming
10:14
Human I think it's called. It's
10:18
like a story based game but basically I'm
10:20
not no spoilers for the game but essentially
10:22
you are playing as three different androids right
10:24
and these androids kind of have this like
10:26
they're very effective. They're very smart but they
10:28
don't technically have a will of their own
10:30
until they start to. Oh, so that's the
10:33
premise of the game. So that's not really
10:35
spoilers. Okay. But uh, the AI robot shit.
10:37
But yes, it yeah, I would say they're
10:39
like that. All right. Okay.
10:41
I see. That gives
10:43
me a better clearer picture of what's going
10:45
on here. Okay. Okay. Archons have their own
10:48
needs and desires as do other sentient creatures
10:50
but where mortals vie for riches and powers,
10:52
Archons seek opportunities for destruction. The
10:55
chance to commit violence and mayhem is a
10:57
strong lure for Archons. After all, the creatures
10:59
were literally born to fight. It's difficult to
11:01
bribe an Archon with wealth but presenting an
11:04
intriguing destructive challenge. For example, bringing down a
11:06
fortress, fortress walls that have been reinforced with
11:08
powerful arcane runes. It's a sure way to
11:11
get Archons interest if not its servitude. They're
11:13
built to problem solve. They really are. Is
11:15
this a lot like the warforged or
11:18
not? It doesn't quite feel like
11:20
that but something screams like, you
11:22
know, so bodies made for
11:24
war. I mean, yeah, they definitely have that
11:26
same vibe going on. I think
11:29
with warforged though, the major
11:31
differences and I don't
11:33
remember the exact details of their
11:35
forging but like they are sentient
11:38
creatures. They were created as sentient
11:40
creatures with souls. Yeah, okay. Elemental
11:42
Mermanons do not have souls. They're just,
11:44
they are given animus. They're
11:47
elementals given animus. Okay. There's
11:50
a difference there. Right. Kind of. Unlike
11:56
their lesser cousins, the elementals
12:00
Maragon's work well together, and each kind brings
12:02
its own strengths into play. Whereas
12:04
Earth marmadons are patient and exorable defenders,
12:06
fire marmadons are aggressive and highly
12:09
effective when attacking enemy positions or
12:11
laying siege. Water marmadons
12:13
travel as easily through rivers
12:15
and lakes as others do on land.
12:17
They make excellent naval forces and can
12:19
sneak into occupied territory before launching a
12:21
surprise attack from behind enemy lines. Ice
12:24
marmadons are brilliant ruthless tacticians who
12:27
calculated plans are devoid of emotion.
12:30
When united, marmadons of different kinds are
12:32
more destructive than when they act separately,
12:34
and the strongest groups are those that
12:36
have diverse elemental affinities. For example,
12:38
water arcons might infiltrate a castle by means
12:40
of an underground river, opening the
12:42
gates so that fire arcons can spill into
12:45
the structure and attack. Earth arcons
12:47
fortify that position and hold the gates open
12:49
while ice arcons ensure no one escapes from
12:51
the castle to warn nearby villages and seek
12:54
reinforcements. Okay. Wait, is it...
12:56
is there five of them or is it all kinds? You
12:58
can do a smoke one. There are all kinds. We are
13:00
only going to talk about when we
13:02
get the specifics, the four major kinds, water,
13:04
air, earth, and fire. Sure. But
13:07
yeah, any para-elemental, any even quasi-elemental,
13:09
there can be marmadons for. Okay.
13:14
Elemental marmadons retain no memories of the
13:16
free elementals that were bound to create
13:18
them. As creatures that were
13:20
forged for the purpose of war, their mindset revolves
13:22
almost entirely around conflict and conquest. They
13:25
have an innate desire to wage war, though not
13:27
necessarily a desire for winning. When
13:30
their innate desire to wage war goes unsatisfied
13:33
for a long period of time, they will
13:35
initially become restless and then careless and sluggish.
13:38
All elemental marmadons are immune to the
13:40
effects of diseases and poisons, as they
13:42
are being composed wholly of elemental essence.
13:45
They are also impervious to harm from their
13:47
respective elements. Yeah, but not
13:49
necessarily weak against their opposing
13:52
elements. No, not necessarily so. No,
13:55
not all the time. Forry was a little bit more like
13:57
that. But we'll get into that. the
14:00
specific mermanon types after a short
14:02
rest. Okay. It's
14:04
the grand invention of Hylian and Bien.
14:08
Oh, Bien. That was a wonderful
14:11
dungeon. Yeah, it was really good.
14:13
I really needed that. I gotta say, the
14:15
pillaging of it? Yeah. That
14:18
was good. Absolutely. You know, the best
14:20
part for me was when we entered
14:22
the chamber filled with elemental mermanons and
14:25
we just let their ashes have it. Absolutely. I
14:27
mean, like, I let them, well, there was that
14:29
part where I let them have my ass. Not
14:31
like that. Not like that.
14:33
Whoa. People were looking the other
14:36
way and I... I missed that one. I did my
14:38
thing. Thankfully. Like, some of the air ones just evaporated. Yes,
14:40
I saw there was like this strange,
14:43
airy gel type substance lying about the floor.
14:45
It was like nothing on that machine before.
14:48
Yeah, yeah. It was as if... It's like
14:50
solid air. ...the liquid was gel that had
14:52
all of its liquid replaced with gas. Yeah,
14:54
you were pretty hyped when you saw that.
14:57
Yes. Well, I pocketed some. I'm going
14:59
to use it in some dark rituals later. It
15:01
was really weird. My armor got all fucked
15:04
up because they were... They doing a force
15:06
damage? Yeah, it was strange.
15:08
It was like their swords would make contact
15:10
with my skin, but then they wouldn't. But
15:13
I would take damage anyway. Yeah, yeah. That
15:15
was a strange choice for the enchantment. But
15:17
you know... I like the
15:20
part where you threw the spear down
15:22
that water one's throat. Yes.
15:24
They tried to spear you and then you speared
15:26
it. It got quite proficient with the spear. I
15:28
don't know if you've noticed. It exploded and it
15:30
got the fire one all wet and now that
15:32
made it kind of mad. There was a chain
15:34
reaction. I hit an earth one with
15:36
a sweet uppercut. I actually dropped my sword at
15:39
one point and hit it with a sweet
15:41
uppercut. I took his armor. Don't I look
15:43
great? Yeah, your armor looks absolutely fantastic. Which
15:45
elementals did you get it off? The earth
15:47
one. The earth one. Oh, that's fantastic. That
15:49
probably has magical properties to it. Yeah, maybe.
15:51
I don't know. You have to tell
15:53
me. It's more of a good story about how I
15:55
got it. I was down. I got hit. I
15:57
got knocked prone. They were knocking me over. Right,
16:00
I got hit prone and then I got up
16:02
like a like a wake-up attack sort of I
16:04
don't know how to describe it But I just
16:06
show you good it just came out of my
16:09
mouth and then the dude exploded I got him
16:11
right on the chin Wow took his armor. It's
16:13
fantastic. Yeah, you know there was a moment there
16:15
I was thinking about casting fireball, but with all
16:17
these magical weapons of what I mean why even
16:19
bother I was gonna say How did you get
16:22
through all that without me? Every man one of
16:24
them that died was dropping magic items left and
16:26
right you would think at this point of our
16:28
journey that you Suspected fighter like me, but you're
16:30
not I mean Necessary
16:32
no fears. There's we got in that one
16:34
Shopify town was crazy Well, I'm all out
16:37
of those but now I have this really
16:39
sweet water trident. Oh, yeah. Yeah, that's great
16:41
What happened to the other one the ones
16:43
you got from the why use them all
16:45
yeah, but like you didn't go You
16:47
gotta go pick them up What?
16:52
Oh It's
16:54

21:38
point. They did not do that. Don't
21:40
ever accuse them. No. They'll
21:43
kill you. Okay.
21:46
I don't know what they're doing on this one,
21:48
but it's probably monster related.
21:50
Definitely. Anyway, they're
21:52
all improv and we do them after we record the
21:55
episode. So we get the whole. We can use all
21:57
the tools at hand. So let's learn what all the
21:59
tools are with Let's do that.
22:01
Oh wait, sorry. Do I need stat blocks? Yeah,
22:04
you actually do. Okay, actually do. I'll go find them.
22:06
Are they the main four ones? They're the main four
22:09
ones. Okay. In a matter of fact, you should be
22:11
able to find them all on one page in D&D
22:13
Beyond Hopefully. Gotcha. You do the thing. I'll do the
22:15
thing over here. Sounds good. So let's get into the
22:17
specifics of each of the four main merbit on types
22:20
starting with air merbit on So
22:22
air elemental merbit on the other was
22:24
known as air merbit ons or air
22:26
arkons are a variety of elemental merbit
22:28
on Being created by conjuring and bonding
22:30
elements in this case of elemental air
22:32
into richly created armor Air merbit ons
22:34
are composed entirely of elemental air with
22:36
semi transparent bodies that are roughly human
22:38
in size and shape Air
22:41
merbit ons have resistance to lightning based
22:43
spells and abilities as well as ones
22:45
that are sonic based They also have
22:47
any abilities allowing them to temporarily imbue
22:50
their weapons with electrical energy and speed
22:52
around the battlefield Yeah
22:55
There are two more powerful varieties of
22:58
air merbit on these Zephyr haunts and
23:00
the tempest blades Zephyr
23:03
haunts can transform themselves into raging
23:05
cyclones slinging away the enemies They
23:07
move through while tempest blades can
23:09
encase themselves in an aura of screaming
23:11
winds that turn aside all weaponry lunged at that I
23:13
was on the I was on the merbit on I
23:15
found the merbit on staff Yeah, but I was on
23:17
that page and I went back like Zephyr haunts. That
23:19
sounds so German, but it's Zephyr
23:22
haunts like a ghost. Yes. Yeah,
23:24
not like haunts like haunts Yeah
23:30
Zephyr haunts sorry my
23:32
pronunciation the braces make a little difficult I'm
23:34
here to speed upon you I've
23:38
practiced with Germans in a long time Yeah,
23:41
I'm terrible at German accent Most
23:43
varieties of air merbit on typically fight
23:45
with spiked chains or a flail with
23:48
spikes on its chains Tempets
23:51
blades though typically fight with long swords. Okay Like
23:54
any elemental merbit ons when left to their own
23:56
devices these beings will form societies that have the
23:59
same structure one that was roughly
24:01
militaristic. They
24:03
originally disciplined and have hierarchies based on
24:06
rank, with rank determining every aspect of
24:08
life in their stronghold. These ranks do
24:10
not have proper titles, as Eramir Madon
24:12
simply know where they and others
24:14
rank. They do not challenge
24:17
authority or compete against one another for rank,
24:19
each being satisfied with their station and feeling
24:22
they best serve in that position. Okay,
24:24
cool. These are terrifying. Yeah, they're terrifying.
24:26
They're terrifying robots of war. Outside
24:29
of combat, Eramir Madon spend much of
24:32
their time trying to hone their knowledge
24:34
of strategy and tactics, engaging in tactical
24:36
exercises or sparring, constantly training for the
24:38
next conflict which satisfies their innate desire
24:40
to make war. Many
24:43
eric archons are known to serve Yancy
24:45
Bin, the evil archamental of elemental air.
24:47
Beyond this, they often find themselves in
24:50
the service of Storm Titans. I
24:52
love Yancy Bin. I think somebody commented
24:55
like, this is the only good one of the
24:57
four. I like them all, but Yancy Bin is
24:59
easily the most interesting. Yeah, 100%. Although,
25:02
to be fair, we have not done Ogrimok yet. Okay.
25:06
Earth elemental mermanons, otherwise known as earth
25:09
mermanons or earth archons, are a variety
25:11
of elemental mermanon being created by conjuring
25:13
and bonding elements, in this case of
25:15
elemental earth, into rich, really created suits
25:17
of armor to act to survive weapons
25:19
of war. Earth
25:21
mermanons are being composed entirely of
25:23
elemental earth. Their bodies are sturdy
25:25
and rough and tough. Even
25:28
among the militarily minded mermanons, earth
25:30
mermanons stand out as being excellent
25:32
strategists. They prefer to conquest at
25:35
a slow and steady pace, bunkering
25:37
down in fortifying positions. There
25:40
are two more powerful varieties
25:42
of earth archons, the Seismic
25:44
Strikers and the Ground Ragers. All
25:47
varieties of earth mermanon are capable of creating tremors
25:49
in the earth. An
25:51
innate ability, they heavily utilize
25:54
in combat. Seismic Strikers have
25:56
the unique ability to manifest
25:58
stone javelins. Like
26:00
in the vermin. So what it... Javelins is
26:02
like a... It's javelin, right? It's javelins. Javelins
26:04
is like a coffee drink. I
26:07
could go for one right now. Stone
26:10
javelins that they hurl at their enemies
26:12
and ground ragers give off an aura
26:14
that liquefies the earth around their enemies
26:16
to impede their movements. You know
26:18
javelins isn't actually a coffee drink, right? Yeah.
26:21
It's not real. Okay. Did
26:23
it sound like I did? I wasn't sure. So I
26:25
just wanted to hit that. Thank you. Thank
26:27
you for the clarification. The standard variety
26:29
of earth mermanon typically fights with either
26:31
mighty warhammers or mauls made of stone.
26:34
Those known as ground ragers fight with
26:36
no weapons while seismic strikers fight with
26:38
a heavy shield and a war pick
26:40
and their stone javelins. Yes. Regardless
26:43
of what weapon they use it is
26:45
considered magical and can cause seismic shockwaves.
26:47
Fucking awesome. Yeah. Many earth
26:49
mermanons are known to serve ogre mock, the
26:52
evil archimental of elemental earth. Beyond this
26:54
seismic strikers sometimes act as guards for
26:56
stone giants. Among their fellow mermanons earth
26:59
mermanons work better with ice archons than
27:01
fire ones due to having similar approaches
27:03
to warfare. I like it. All
27:06
right. Fire elemental mermanons. Otherwise known
27:08
as fire mermanons or fire archons are a
27:10
variety of elemental mermanon beings created by conjuring
27:13
and bounding elements, in this case the elemental
27:15
fire, into virtually created suits of armor to
27:17
act as to revive weapons of war. Mermanons
27:21
are being composed entirely of elemental fire
27:23
with bodies that are roughly human shaped
27:26
and sized with a head, torso
27:28
and arms. But rather than legs
27:30
their lower body is a single
27:32
large conflagration, conflagration, conflagration, conflagration
27:34
that glides above the ground over
27:37
thin layers of super heated air.
27:39
So they float. I like it. Depending on
27:42
their need their fingers are either true digits
27:44
or blended together like in a mitten
27:46
like form. What
27:49
need would you have that requires
27:51
mittens over digits? What
27:55
need would you have that would be like
27:57
no mittens are better for this? Catching baseballs?
28:00
Well, okay, that's I thought you would have
28:02
got that that's fair the super fair You
28:04
know that's what fire archons love to do.
28:07
They love to play they like to play
28:09
baseball the fucking Lutely,
28:11
you know, they're throwing heaters over the place Great
28:18
their heads have a defined front and
28:20
back but lack facial features Whenever
28:23
they become angry or agitated two brighter. I
28:25
like points can appear on their face Fire
28:28
murmur dons are the most destructive in nature
28:30
of all the elemental murmur dons and thought
28:32
of everything and think of everything in terms
28:34
Of conflict, maybe they feel bad
28:36
about that sometimes so they get their mitten hands
28:38
and like they shush people like okay
28:42
Alright That's the dark. That's
28:44
really dark. They're impervious to harm for
28:46
fire, but can be harmed by water Also
28:48
like other elemental beings they have no need for sleep
28:51
and they do not need to breathe in the sense
28:53
of fire But though they do
28:55
need to breathe in the sense that fire
28:57
needs air. Yeah, it's their body fuel It's
28:59
their body fuel anytime one of
29:01
their limbs is severed It will quickly regrow
29:03
with the severed part burning away in a
29:06
swirl of fire and smoke They can set
29:08
things alight with their bodies though It requires
29:10
some concentration and they are incapable of diminishing
29:12
the amount of light that their bodies emit
29:14
Which is comparable to a bonfire. So they're
29:16
not sneaking up on nobody ever Don't DMS
29:18
don't fall into the trope that just because
29:20
it has limbs that can regrow means you're
29:22
obligated to No,
29:25
yeah, you don't have to like it's a nice touch
29:27
like piccolo They chop that man's arm off every time
29:29
they get he really do Did
29:32
happen if I will say it did happen to tien
29:34
one time and he did not regrow his arm shit.
29:36
Yeah Tien
29:43
There are quite a few varieties of
29:45
fire murmur Don including ash
29:47
disciples blaze steels Ember
29:50
guards and flame bows. It's not cool
29:53
names. Yes, pretty cool. And big
29:55
surprise or fourth edition names Ash
29:58
Disciples: One of the more powerful varieties. If
30:00
I remember and aunts are, they are equivalent
30:02
to war priests aspiring for a day when
30:04
firewall Emily in Cleanse Live World. They were
30:06
scale armor rather than play and they typically
30:08
were metal robe the top. Them. Not.
30:11
And that not broken misty. What?
30:13
Will said. Ceasefire
30:18
were announced cause noticeable effect on local
30:20
weather pattern such as prolonged routes or
30:22
heatwave. They can hurl fire, unleash, pounding
30:24
was the he and and gulf their
30:26
enemies and blinding clouds cinders when slain
30:28
they float in a burst. the fiery
30:31
embers. Okay, that's fucking cool.
30:33
Vertical Blaze steals one of the
30:35
more powerful varieties of fire more,
30:37
and Aunts Ugly fills our most
30:39
of the most ill tempered and
30:41
easily provoked. Growing more courageous as
30:43
they are injured, they serve a
30:45
shock troopers with Element armies. The
30:48
firemen on bled out birth the fire whenever they
30:50
are injured. In
30:52
addition to their. Diet. For
30:55
isn't yeah I guess Ember Guards the
30:57
serve as guardians of temples, tone Tombs
30:59
and other locations has shrunk guys to
31:01
Element of Fire the author guard portals
31:03
leading to the elemental chaos within. Armies
31:06
made up of elemental creatures, they serve
31:08
as infantry these firemen under surrounded by
31:10
class by cloud of embers burning Any
31:12
For comes to close to them. flame
31:16
bows firing on that are specialize in
31:18
the youth of bows they're often seen
31:20
wearing chain mail rather than plate these
31:23
firemen and can teleport short distances and
31:25
will explode into a birth the fire
31:27
when slain ah firing aunts or never
31:29
inclined to stealth and are highly effective
31:31
when it comes to taking enemy positions
31:34
are laying siege they typically prefer to
31:36
fight with metal weaponry that is evocative
31:38
of flames thus they avoid these of
31:40
heavier bludgeoning weapons their most commonly seen
31:43
fighting with thousands scimitars and even rib
31:45
years okay odds by to destructive tendencies
31:47
fire our guns are noted to be
31:49
excellent craftsmen are able to craft matter
31:52
where quality items on par with those
31:54
created by dwarfs nearly everything they craft
31:56
has a flame motif turret decorating and
31:58
that's fucking calling I bet dwarves are
32:00
mad. You know how to make it thicker put some sick flames
32:02
on it. Absolutely Yeah,
32:05
you know, I'm beginning to get this feeling
32:07
that dwarves are like the the
32:09
wharf or Wolverine of the
32:11
elemental or of D&D
32:14
but okay, so, you know, they wharf or
32:16
Wolverine like from Star Trek. Yes. Okay. Do
32:19
you know what the wharf effect is? What
32:22
that he's mad. No, the wharf effect
32:24
is whenever you need something on your
32:26
Star Trek episode to To
32:29
you whenever you need to communicate to your viewers
32:31
that this is a tough enemy have them punch
32:33
wharf in the face Yeah, same with X-Men in
32:35
the old war room show How do you how
32:37
do you let your people know that this villains
32:40
like needs to be taken seriously have it kick
32:42
Wolverine's ass? Yeah, well let it like run over
32:44
Wolverine. Yeah, and now you know, it's oh, that's
32:46
a tough it. It kicked Wolverine's ass Yeah, you
32:48
know it punch wharf in the face. Yeah, I
32:50
got you How do you know that something's really
32:52
good at crafting things and needy make it as
32:55
good as dwarves? Yeah, there you go. There you
32:57
go. Make dwarves mad about make dwarves mad about
32:59
it You know, it's good. This is a good
33:01
as dwarves Dwarves are pissed go
33:03
buy it. Yeah, you know, it's good Anyways,
33:06
where were you water? No,
33:09
I don't think we got there yet
33:11
Oh, we're one paragraph back many fire
33:13
meridons are known to serve image the
33:15
evil archamental of elemental fire They can
33:17
also be found working for or alongside
33:19
ancient red dragons fire Titans guardian nagas
33:21
phoenix's salamanders and volcanic dragons And
33:24
the city of brass many fire archons serve
33:26
as soldiers to the ruling you freed fucking
33:28
city of brass We're gonna get there this
33:30
August the hottest month of the
33:32
year. That's so hot that Hansel water
33:36
elemental merbidons otherwise known
33:38
as water meridons or water Archons are
33:40
a variety of elemental merbid on being
33:42
created by conjuring and bonding element elementals
33:44
in this case the element of water
33:47
Interritually create a suits of armor to act
33:49
to survive a war on earth like planets.
33:51
This is the strongest elemental Sure.
33:54
Well, maybe I'll say they just
33:58
float through all the water Yeah.
34:01
But what about the land? Setting specific, but
34:03
there's mostly water here. You're not wrong.
34:06
You're not wrong. Water mermanons are being
34:08
composed entirely of elemental water. Though they are
34:10
capable of moving on land and do so
34:12
on occasion as a surprise tactic, they prefer
34:14
to remain near water. Being kept too far
34:16
from water can affect their loyalty to a
34:18
master. They also value having frequent opportunities to
34:21
spread misery and woe. This is the
34:24
only elemental mermanon that
34:26
I thus for read on
34:28
that actively enjoy spreading like
34:31
misery. Like being evil. The
34:33
other one's just like we fight because we are programmed
34:35
to fight. Water
34:37
mermanons like it a little too much. It's
34:39
because all the water has like you know
34:42
how water has you know the water you
34:44
drink today was maybe inside a dinosaur right?
34:46
Sure. Yeah. Or
34:48
something that does that affect like. Yeah. He
34:51
either pooped one time and his
34:53
water got filtered out of his poop and like returned
34:55
back to the earth or whatever. I think I recently
34:57
saw a Vsauce short where he was talking about like
34:59
50% of all the water that we interact
35:01
with on a daily basis is something like 4.5 billion
35:04
plus years old. Yeah.
35:07
See stuff like that. So it's been it's been through a lot of stuff.
35:09
All this water has run through all Hydra. So
35:11
everything's a little bit. Everything's a little bit evil.
35:13
Yeah. Everything's a little bit evil. If
35:16
you're feeling like you want to fucking rob a bank
35:18
that's the all Hydra inside of a damn. That's
35:21
hilarious. They
35:24
are impervious to harm from water based spells
35:26
or abilities but those that are cold based
35:28
will hinder their movements and they are uniquely
35:30
able to temporarily infuse their weapon strikes with
35:32
elemental ice. Sick. There are
35:34
three varieties of water Archon, shoal reavers, tide
35:37
striders and wave shapers. Just all the names
35:39
of the sub ones are so fucking cool.
35:41
They are pretty cool. Shoal reavers.
35:43
These water mermodons can make temporary
35:45
harpoons out of solid water and
35:47
conjure forth small whirlpools. Shoal reavers
35:49
often use their water harpoons to
35:51
pull creatures closer to the water
35:54
before conjuring forth whirlpools. Sick.
35:56
Wave shapers. Get over here. Get
35:59
over here. Shapers these water marinades
36:01
can manipulate the water by gesturing with
36:03
their fans. So they they fight with
36:05
fans. Okay, um, which I Some
36:07
air shit, but okay exotic weapon. I'm
36:09
into it Conjuring force small
36:11
waves whirlpools or geysers as well as
36:14
empowering aquatic or water elemental creatures one
36:16
of the more powerful Varieties water marinades
36:18
they are equivalent to war priests aspiring
36:20
for a day when prime material worlds
36:22
will be drowned by the churning waters
36:24
Of the elemental chaos. All right They
36:26
typically wear robes atop their armor and
36:28
are known for creating great ships made
36:31
of semi-solid water which can rise and
36:33
submerge at will Okay some wet robes
36:37
Tide striders one of the more powerful varieties
36:39
of water marinades They are the most agile
36:41
at moving through water and known for being
36:43
quite reserved by violent The
36:45
standard variety of water marinade on typically
36:47
fights with trade-ins while those known as
36:49
tide striders and wave shapers Typically fight
36:51
with great spares and dual war fans
36:53
respectively Many are known to
36:56
serve all Hydra there There she is folks
36:58
the evil archamental of elemental water beyond this
37:00
they often find themselves in the service
37:02
of masters who are like The ocean quite
37:05
destructive and unpredictable in nature such
37:07
as abalists or human pirates. Hell. Yeah
37:09
These are all fucking sick as fuck. Hell. Yeah,
37:12
these guys. These are elemental mermaidons That's all I
37:14
got before we get to the statbox. Do you
37:16
got any questions comments or concerns? No,
37:19
I'd probably call him the merm. Will can I
37:21
read you some statbox? Please do I have air
37:23
elemental mermaid on Medium elemental
37:25
typically neutral armor class is 18

37:29

37:31

37:38
have a plus four to strength plus two to
37:40

37:42
a zero wisdom and a zero charisma Which that's
37:44
neutral charisma is pretty on brand
37:46
here Damage resistances lightning thunder
37:48
bludgeoning piercing and slashing from non
37:51
magical attacks. They are immune to
37:54
poison Conditioned immunities
37:56
paralyzed petrified prone or Senses
38:00
dark vision 60 feet that tracks do we
38:02
want to talk about my solve for the
38:04
poison problem? We do okay, we want to
38:06
do it now Do it
38:08
now okay? Well we didn't even look up if
38:11
the if there is this thing what
38:13
there might be that thing poison No,
38:16
there isn't okay. Go ahead.
38:18
No. I just think okay So I think the
38:20
reason that most of these magical
38:22
high-level creatures are immune to poison is when
38:24
we think about poison We think about it
38:26
in like the actual real world sense kind
38:29
of how we do with weapons like biologically
38:31
like biologically You know and I just think
38:33
that much like there is magical bludgeoning piercing
38:35
and slashing there should just be magical poison
38:39
Such as from like a green dragon's
38:41
breath attack, which should be like more
38:43
than just poison It's pure elemental magical
38:45
poison that can you
38:47
know toxify even even a demon or
38:49
an angel or whatever My
38:52
opinion I thought I'd fix it super poisons
38:54
need super cures indeed Let's
38:57
see we got what I leave off dark vision
38:59
six feet passive perception 60 feet lay languages Orin
39:02
and one language of its creators choice. That's
39:04
pretty cool. Yeah, that makes a lot of
39:06
sense A lot of times it's wizards making
39:09
these things. Yes, they can take orders and
39:11
understand them indeed in more
39:13
common tongue challenge rating
39:15

39:18
experience points they operate on a proficiency bonus of
39:20
plus three Actions multi attack
39:23
the murmur don take makes three flail
39:25
attacks. There's a flail in the picture,
39:27
which is fucking horrifying Flail
39:31
is a melee weapon attack plus seven to hit with
39:33
the reach of five feet on one target It's gonna
39:35
hit for eight or one D eight plus four force
39:37
damage and the final thing here
39:39
is lightning strike recharges on a D six roll
39:42
for six The murmur
39:44
don makes one flail attack on a
39:46
hit the target takes an extra 1848
39:50
lightning damage and the target must succeed
39:52
on a DC 13 Constitution saving throw
39:54
or be stunned Until the
39:56
end of the murmur Don's next turn.
39:58
It's pretty sick indeed Stunned
40:00
is pretty debilitating. Yeah,
40:03
a stun creature is incapacitated Can't
40:06
move and can speak only
40:09
faltering Lee the creature automatically fails strength
40:11
and deck saves Attack rolls
40:13
against the creature have advantage. Yeah, that's
40:15
pretty good. Mm-hmm. Let's see. We got
40:17
the earth elemental Murmudon medium
40:20
elemental typically neutral armor class 18 plate
40:24
HP is 127 17 D 8 plus 51 speed 30 feet It's
40:28

40:31

40:33
zero wisdom and plus zero charisma it's
40:35
gonna resist beep us and From
40:39
non magical. It's gonna resist non magical beep
40:41
us Now
40:45
now that we know they beep. Yeah,
40:48
I'm gonna say beep us. Okay, it's
40:50
immune to poison It's condition immunities are
40:52
paralyzed petrified prone and poisoned senses
40:55
dark vision 60 feet passive perception 10 It
40:58
speaks Taren in one language of its creators choice challenge
41:00
rating seven proficiency bonus three. It's got a multi attack
41:02
It's gonna make two mall attacks The mall is a
41:04
melee weapon attack with plus seven to hit reach of
41:06
five feet on one target It's gonna hit for 11
41:09
or 2d6 plus 4 force damage. It's
41:11
got a thunderous strike. It's gonna
41:13
recharge on a six The
41:16
murmudon makes one mall attack on a hit the
41:18
target take The target takes an
41:20
extra 22 or 40 10 thunder damage
41:22
and the target must succeed on a DC 14
41:25
strength saving throw or be knocked I
41:28
don't like the thunder damage for earth stuff. It
41:30
just doesn't fit for me Yeah,
41:33
the problem is there's not really a
41:35
good alternative either I've seen sometimes acid
41:37
stuff done for earth elementals, which is
41:41
okay because you know, like there are caustic Chemicals
41:44
within you know earth Sulfur
41:46
and a bunch of other stuff. I mean
41:48
it hit you so hard. It damaged you
41:51
with the sound But because
41:54
thunder is synonymous with sound damage for
41:56
the most part, yeah, yeah, so I
41:58
mean it just is weird Because you
42:00
get force damage the Shatter spell is Thunder
42:03
damage under damage. Yeah, fucks up
42:05
around extra it does Yeah, I
42:07
feel like I feel like it's okay to give
42:09
it force damage in this case You know, it's
42:11
just so it's it's the
42:13
bludgeon bludgeon so hard that
42:15
it becomes force damage Which
42:17
is very very rarely ever
42:20
resisted right the best damage. Yeah, that's probably why
42:22
they didn't pick that Yeah, but at the same
42:24
time looking at like I think it should have
42:26
got picked honestly. Hmm, but that's just
42:28
that's just my take It's a balancing issue We
42:31
got the fire elemental mermaid on medium elemental
42:33
typically neutral armor class 18 plate HP
42:36
is 123 or 19 D 8 plus 38 speed is 40 feet 10
42:41
more than the other two, right? Yeah. Yeah.
42:44
Well unless you count the 30 hover On
42:47
top of it. So strength is plus 1
42:49
Dex plus 4 con plus 2 intelligence minus
42:51
1 wisdom plus 0 and charisma plus 0
42:55
damage resistances to beep us from
42:57
non magical beep us damage immunities
42:59
to fire and Poison
43:01
condition immunities to paralyze petrified
43:03
prone and poisoned senses dark
43:05
vision 60 feet passive perception
43:07
is 10 Languages ignorant
43:10
in one language of the creators choice challenge
43:12
rating 7 provisioning bonus plus 3 illumination The
43:15
mermaid on sheds bright light in a 20-foot radius and
43:17
a dim light in a 40-foot radius Water
43:20
susceptibility for every 5 feet the mermaid
43:22
on moves in one foot or more
43:24
of water It takes 2 or 1d4
43:26
cold damage interesting. You can't
43:28
just stay in the water. Yeah, but it has
43:30
hover right? No, it doesn't have hover. No, okay.
43:32
Just move very fast Multi
43:35
attack the mermaid on makes 3 scimitar
43:37
attacks Scimitar is a
43:40
melee weapon attack plus 7 to hit
43:42
reach of 5 feet One target
43:44
is gonna hit for 7 or 1d 6 plus 4
43:46
force damage. This one gets force damage What the fuck
43:48
is that? I did this slashing damage on the step
43:51
block. I'm looking at. Oh, it does not That
43:53
has to be a typo or you're indeed beyond. Yeah, that
43:55
has to be a typo the straight up has to be
43:57
a typo Yeah, there's no way. Yeah Anyway,
44:01
fiery strikes, where are you looking? Some
44:03
site that's probably not legal. I
44:06
don't know. I pulled up the fast thing
44:08
I could find. I'm not mad about it. Fuck has, bro. Fiery
44:12
strikes recharge on a six. The
44:14
Mermanon uses multi-attack. Each
44:17
attack that hits deals an extra seven or
44:19
two-d-six fire damage. Why does this feel better
44:21
than the other ones? Fire
44:23
gets a little bit more attention. I don't know
44:25
if you noticed, but even in the lore it
44:27
had way more subtypes. Yeah, really. Fire is the
44:29
most popular element, period. Okay. Always
44:32
is. Well, so be it. We
44:35
got the water elemental Mermanon. It's
44:37
medium elemental, typically neutral. Armor
44:39
class 18 plate. HP is 127
44:41
or 17. D8 plus 51.
44:44
Speed 40 feet. Swim speed 40 feet. Very
44:47
cool. Strength is going to be plus four.
44:49
Dex plus two. Khan plus three. Intelligence minus
44:51
one. Wisdom plus zero. Charisma plus zero. Damage
44:54
resistance. It resists acid and
44:57
non-magical deepest. Damage
44:59
immunities. Poison. Condition
45:02
immunities. Paralyzed, petrified, prone, and...
45:05
Poison. Census, darkvision 60 feet. Passive
45:08
perception 10. Languages, aquan or
45:10
one language of its creator's choice. Challenge rating seven
45:12
for efficiency bonus plus three. It's going to do
45:14
a multi-attack. The Mermanon takes three trident attacks. The
45:17
trident is a melee or ranged weapon attack plus
45:19
seven to hit. Reach a five
45:21
feet or range of 20 slash 60 feet. That's
45:26
20 at normal, at normal roll and
45:28
60 at disadvantage roll, right? That's how
45:30
that works. Where
45:32
are we looking here? The ranged trident. Oh,
45:35
okay. Like when you
45:37
throw 20 slash 60 like how it has on bows.
45:40
The first one is the normal roll. Up
45:42
to 20 normal. Disadvantaged at 60 feet. You
45:44
know the steplock I'm looking at isn't giving
45:46
me a ranged version, but
45:48
go ahead. We're
45:51
going to hit for seven or 1d6 plus
45:53
four force damage or eight 1d8 plus four
45:55
force damage if used with two hands to
45:57
make a melee attack. Why does this say
45:59
force damage? Also shouldn't be piercing. It's
46:01
definitely a typo. It has
46:03
to be a type of freezing strikes Recharges
46:05
on a six the mermaid on uses multi
46:08
attack each attack that hits deals an extra
46:10
five or one d10 cold damage a Target
46:12
that is hit by one or more of
46:14
these attacks has its speed reduced by 10 feet until
46:16
the end of the mermaid on Next turn which is
46:18
really cool. Okay. We'll check the book I
46:23
guess I've just been reading force damage out loud and
46:25
didn't register, but they all say force damage for their
46:27
attacks and The extra
46:29
stuff is different damage. So yeah, I guess
46:31
they just do force damage Yeah,
46:34
I the only thing I can think of
46:36
is maybe They
46:39
want to to get past
46:41
resistances But like
46:43
usually most monsters you just say like their
46:45
attacks town is magical, right? Okay
46:48
for the purposes of of Resistances.
46:50
Yeah, this is magical
46:52
beep us, but now it's not it's forced
46:54
damage, which is broken. It's pretty good It's
46:58
a strange choice. I mean, it's fine. I
47:00
guess I it doesn't make sense to me
47:02
Yeah, like their additional attack like they're
47:05
the freezing strikes. It's doing cold damage
47:08
Yeah, yeah, I see that but to
47:10
me like why are we
47:12
changing? Like the swords at
47:14
this fire elemental mermaid on our wielding are
47:16
very obviously made of like burning
47:19
hot metal, right? It should do slashing
47:21
damage. Why is it doing force damage?
47:23
I don't know I mean It's
47:25
just strange it's it's it's not a broken
47:28
choice. It's just a choice. No,
47:30
what that choice is about. Well, I think it's It
47:33
I think it is better to
47:36
have four families. It is it is
47:39
better like what we're talking like Damage
47:41
wise like if we're trying to do the most
47:43
amount of damage. Sure. It's just lore wise Why
47:46
did we choose for these things that do this?
47:48
You know what? I mean? I wonder if I
47:50
got updated at some point to be that yeah,
47:52
and it wasn't before I don't know Well,
47:55
you know it probably because some of these other
47:57
blocks I was looking at don't have that yeah,
47:59
there's not like Like. A
48:01
Qantas quickly look I get my third
48:03
relaxing damage or minor. I don't even
48:05
know what this site is by society
48:07
our own make more sense spread to
48:09
be that but the official stop lock
48:11
on Dmd beyond says force damage and
48:13
then the additional like the Thunder Strike
48:15
is funded am and so I guess
48:17
in in free the sake of your
48:19
argument here they are to used for
48:21
steroids if you're gonna pick another kind
48:23
of damage as probably next Best thing.
48:26
Yeah. Sure, let's not bludgeoning, I guess.
48:29
I'm by. yeah there you have it. was
48:31
all for the main stat box on up
48:34
to read of the variance but from to
48:36
a for a. Be
48:38
I like these. Generally speaking, they are all
48:40
very, very cool. They're fine. I'm planning on
48:42
having a lot of them in my current
48:44
Elemental campaign or when we eventually get to
48:46
that level. Rather, hey, I plan to have
48:48
these guys around. Yeah, they're strong, is a
48:50
very wrong, creatures are fun, and they they
48:53
they are at a pretty sweet spot. Ah,
48:55
and Seven is another sweet spot. Like three
48:57
where he can be like a boss. a
48:59
mini. Boss or a round trip depending
49:01
on like billable your party yeah like
49:03
are a small group of adventurers. low
49:05
level are you know? They.
49:08
Find a stray murmured on yeah Matt's a
49:10
straight up like Epa gas mask by nine
49:12
vs. if you're a bunch of level ten
49:14
you know a few these my be a
49:17
good mini boss when one saboteurs flail stunning
49:19
people are level twelve eyeglass either of getting
49:21
a little bit more like an elite troops.
49:23
Yeah, yeah, all right Well that's that's everything
49:25
I have here. Yeah, okay, sounds good. I
49:28
think it's time to take a long rest
49:30
of do it was do it. Everyone
49:41
in the long rest. This is a part of
49:43
the episode where I put things on my feet.
49:47
simply putting am i see today a forty
49:49
from friday's as use it so chaotic it's
49:52
charlestown there is an arm is some of
49:54
its wet and some of that some it's
49:56
shooting harpoons and it's as every tickets force
49:58
damage apparently apparently
50:01
yeah I'm a little missed
50:03
actually about it I'm
50:06
not pleased about the whole force damage thing my
50:10
my slippery mermaidan slippers yeah
50:12
oh no it's fine for your slip yeah the force is weird I
50:15
feel like it that was like I don't know
50:17
maybe they're just so fucking strong yeah
50:19
I don't know you know what if
50:22
anyone knows please tell us in comments I really
50:24
want to understand I feel like it's one of
50:26
those things that is behind my decision we could
50:28
probably go Google and figure out I tried to
50:30
Google it I mean briefly I didn't find anything
50:32
mmm interesting yeah let us know if you guys
50:34
know speaking of letting us know if
50:36
you guys know we're gonna I
50:38
said last episode we're gonna read fan mail from the email
50:41
but I was wrong we don't have any we have emails
50:43
that came in but nothing to read on
50:46
the show yeah so we're going to read
50:48
the comments from yancy bin episode so
50:52
get ready for that the
50:54
first one I'll start us from
50:56
Josh Chris Chris mon 8 1
50:59
5 8 threw me for a loop there I thought it was crimson when
51:02
you guys have a laughing fit I can't help but join in thank
51:05
you for the great content here and the last
51:07
thank you you've you've you've
51:10
stoked the flames of my passion to
51:12
create content once again and thank you
51:14
for saying thank you um
51:17
well you might have to help me out with this because no time
51:19
stamp or anything but done choles
51:21
7 6 0
51:23
6 says no Ben Grimm references and
51:26
grim like from a fantastic
51:28
or yeah yeah for the
51:30
NC I mean this ain't over mock episode bro
51:32
I don't tell you yeah I don't know what
51:34
that I don't know if this over mock episode
51:36
we might very well have a Ben Grimm reference
51:38
because he looks like a giant angry Ben Grimm
51:41
that's true but this the NC bin
51:44
yeah um
51:48
so BP this is gonna be fun a fun comment
51:50
Cameron Pierce 5 9 4 3 says BPS stands
51:53
for bludgeoning piercing and slashing yes
51:56
thank you in one piece Hakai
51:58
Lets character punch people with elemental powers
52:01
who can become amorphous. So I apply
52:03
the same kind of thinking of magical
52:05
be bus indian d Thank you for
52:08
reading my other comment. You're welcome Cameron
52:10
Pierce. We
52:12
appreciate you. Bold City Long Sword Nine Nine
52:14
for once as a bit Yancey Been things
52:17
are names are stupid to you know I
52:19
don't We don't really does. Name
52:22
stupid or Willie I'm. Ryan,
52:25
where's your read of letter? The know
52:28
what I saw. How
52:30
are categorically yeah? I was a fact.
52:34
That has only my third of twenty
52:36
six reasons. Ah,
52:40
Raz Euro says i hope
52:42
your boys. Have
52:44
feather far as a prepared spells.
52:46
As for Yancey been. Or.
52:49
Any of the other elements holes. I
52:51
would think that he would have major
52:53
beef with any plane including clause I
52:55
and pair us that does not have
52:57
direct contact with their native plane. so
52:59
yeah, would probably really hate second only
53:01
to the plane of earth, the pair
53:03
of planes of booze and magma, and
53:05
the he played the mineral dust. but
53:07
oddly enough he may not completely mind
53:09
the quasi plane a vacuum, but that
53:11
would be the dems call the scene.
53:13
Go there. Get that Cirque. Com
53:16
mean I would actually fairly obvious that.
53:19
I mean is it is just as
53:21
much the absence of air as element
53:23
of labor. This. In. Awareness so
53:25
I don't think a particular anything
53:27
but I worked all my air
53:29
that fires recently vacuum. What is?
53:31
No, I'm getting Red Sox know.
53:34
What? Is this. A
53:37
hug Jet Lord The Rain Gero.
53:39
Out ranger of winter. Sorry,
53:44
it's all this together. Ah, Look
53:46
up a substance called. Arrow
53:48
gel. For. What I think
53:50
solidified air would look like and feel. Ah
53:53
maybe I will help us a trap.
53:55
I'll look it up or oh dude
53:58
in incognito mode. It's
54:00
a trap. It's a trap. Aero Joe.
54:03
I feel like I've heard of this. Oh
54:05
no shit. A-E-R-O. Holy fuck. This
54:07
is such a good, that was such a good
54:09
suggestion. You gotta see this, dude. Thank
54:12
you, Jetlord, the ranger of winter. Seriously, just look
54:14
at this shit. Yeah, that's what
54:17
solidified air would look like. What the fuck? No fucking joke. What
54:20
the fuck? Okay. That's
54:23
strange. I'm gonna learn more about this.
54:25
Alright. Cameron Pierce is
54:28
back. And they say, I'm shocked they
54:30
never made gargantuan minis for the elemental princes. Ogrimak would be
54:32
so cool. It
54:34
would be cool. They made a
54:36
gargantuan Bahamut, like shooting some fucking shit out of its
54:38
mouth. What are
54:40
we talking about? Oh miniatures? Giant,
54:42
the gargantuan miniatures. Oh,
54:45
no shit, I haven't seen this. I think they should call
54:47
them maxiatures, but whatever. Okay, hold on, hold on, hold on.
54:50
Aerogels. Oh, god dammit. Aerogels
54:52
are a class of synthetic porous ultralight material derived
54:54
from a gel. In which the
54:56
liquid component for the gel has been replaced with a
54:58
gas without significant collapse of the gel structure. The
55:02
result is a solid with extremely low density and extremely low
55:04
thermal conductivity. Aerogels
55:08
can be made with a variety of chemical compounds.
55:11
Yeah, I think, who left that comment? Because they're
55:13
on the money. Jetlord, the ranger of winter. Thank
55:16
you, Jetlord, the ranger of winter. Good
55:18
suggestion. Thank you, Jetlord. Cameron Pierce
55:20
also left another comment that says, I hope you check
55:22
out Pazwuzu's 5E Stats and Minks and Booze Journal of
55:24
Villainy. I
55:28
mean, when you say that, I might look at them, but
55:30
I won't talk about it on the show. They're not going
55:32
to be on the show. Mason
55:35
Van Zant, 7799 says, okay, y'all, here's
55:38
the business. I've been
55:40
listening to you guys for about three years or so now, and
55:42
I have always heard you talk about Super Quest
55:44
Saga, but didn't really want to commit to a
55:46
new actual play podcast yet, despite my love of
55:48
sci-fi. Flash
55:50
forward a year-ish later, I did
55:53
the backer kit for Dragonstar, and I said, thank
55:55
you. I said, fuck it. Fuck
55:57
it! Let's start listening. I added
55:59
the second fuck it. I've been I've
56:01
been binging it and I'm only on episode 9 Already
56:05
it is fucking awesome You four are
56:07
so witty and silly and the world
56:09
building is peak you guys are great
56:11
And I'm excited to finish scoose and
56:13
maybe do a little on the hallowed
56:15
yeah on hallowed is still being made
56:17
But yes, we'll comment that
56:19
saying glad you're enjoying the scoose Indeed
56:22
indeed and you know I was funny. I was telling
56:25
my fiance Michelle about
56:27
one of our most repeated comments
56:30
is always I'm not
56:32
really into live plays, or I'm not
56:35
really into sci-fi But I
56:37
decided to give super quest saga a shot
56:39
and it's amazing and that is it's always
56:41
really great to hear and yeah If
56:43
you have been considering it I
56:45
highly recommend you check out the show. It's
56:47
really good mostly cuz Brian Freeland Shaker hilarious.
56:49
It's really good I think no fucking funny,
56:51
and I do a good job of keeping
56:53
it on the rails Yeah, well obviously the
56:56
whole structure of it the space we played
56:58
in wouldn't have been possible with that will
57:00
who did a great job But we
57:02
are also very cool Yes, it's it's
57:05
I went back and was listening recently cuz I'm
57:07
still writing the book and yes It is very
57:09
funny with my home players. I've been told
57:11
I am a Far
57:13
superior not that I'm a bad dungeon master or anything.
57:16
I think I'm a fair dungeon master, but but the
57:18
I Apparently
57:21
I'm a far superior player than I am a dungeon master So
57:23
if you want to check that out, I Mean,
57:26
I guess I'd agree with that like you're
57:28
you're a much better player than I am I'm
57:30
a much better dungeon master than I am a player,
57:33
but I'm not that I'm a bad player, but no
57:35
I yeah You are an
57:37
amazing player our drinks are weighted. Yeah,
57:39
that's that we respect differently
57:41
indeed Cameron Pierce is back
57:43
again. It's a good old Yancy. I love
57:46
the Yancy as a Nickname
57:48
indeed fucking funny goose
57:53
Far go on says just
57:55
another name for Lucifer is
57:57
it I don't
57:59
know sometimes we get those weird comments that are
58:02
like secretly have hyper
58:05
Christian agendas. Oh maybe
58:09
that's one of them I don't know. Usually the people
58:11
with hyper Christian agendas are like why do you guys
58:13
curse so much? No I think
58:15
they're just uptight agenda. There was that one
58:17
that well oh the the elitists have come.
58:20
Yeah they come and go. Well I
58:22
guess towards the beginning the first like year
58:24
to the show was being made there were
58:26
Christians being hyper. There were
58:29
a lot. Like it's a lot rarer these
58:31
days. Like Bible bashers in the comments like
58:33
really coming after us telling us we're gonna
58:35
burn in hell. Yep yep yep lots
58:37
of that. I mean maybe I will. I don't
58:40
know. Agent Chaus 9332 says for
58:47
the record the lawful out
58:50
just so Gusta Faraguan we
58:52
don't we're not necessarily saying that you're gonna have
58:54
a hyper Christian agenda. Oh yeah yeah I mean
58:57
just saying I didn't understand the comment. I don't
58:59
either. Thank you for commenting. We appreciate it. Thumbs
59:01
up and liked it anyway. Hell yeah.
59:03
Agent Chaus 9332 says for the record the lawful
59:07
outer plane of Machanus or McAnus
59:09
as the normies say it has
59:11
that's me ad-libbing has an
59:14
optional rule where attacks always deal average
59:16
damage just like you were describing as
59:18
a potential homebrew house rule. Yeah
59:20
it does. That's cool. They're right. Mr.
59:24
GOR it's like G
59:26
little O big R. Okay is that
59:29
something? I don't know. Game
59:31
of roar. I
59:35
definitely do average damage it's just faster
59:37
you can still crit just add a
59:39
die roll on top of the average
59:41
the thing that removes the chance of
59:43
crit is when you use mob rules.
59:45
Oh yeah like if
59:48
you land one attack on a mob creature
59:50
it just dies. Yeah I had to remove
59:52
critical hit rules for the starship combat in
59:54
Starseeker's guide unless you use a specific
59:56
starship upgrade because that shit was way too powerful. Yeah
59:59
there's you know. When you need to balance
1:00:01
do the balance. Oh, it's wall you pop
1:00:04
While he pops says I kind
1:00:06
of want some kuatoa to miss here
1:00:08
yancy bins name and create a deity
1:00:10
named Nancy bin That's
1:00:13
tornado generating trash bin God Nancy
1:00:15
bin that's really funny. Oh while you pop I
1:00:18
saw something that said you would like people
1:00:20
that Got
1:00:23
a big success for Nominating
1:00:25
a topic that was selected on patreon for
1:00:28
an episode to be shouted out I think
1:00:30
we could do that what happened
1:00:32
like this like when we do a patron voted
1:00:34
episode We should be like hey this
1:00:36
episode was nominated by this person is that way
1:00:38
to try it out You know yes, absolutely and
1:00:40
and yeah, we should do that well I guess
1:00:43
I will I will the only one I remember
1:00:45
is the dungeon dude Joel Joel Lima Joel You
1:00:49
did it man. Joel Lima episode
1:00:51
happened. I remember that name Lucas
1:00:55
FF 1434 says
1:00:57
and I'm gonna sing it and
1:00:59
see been rolling They
1:01:02
hate oh, that's fucking great That's
1:01:06
really good Brian
1:01:08
to Von Miller shark natives happened
1:01:10
because yan and al hija were doing it
1:01:14
Great now I cannot see this Burton
1:01:16
to my brain Yeah,
1:01:18
sick No
1:01:21
comment Wes what the fuck or
1:01:23
Wes WTF says Tancey
1:01:25
bin reads books on the beach under
1:01:27
an umbrella his polymorph form
1:01:29
with the elementals is a crate
1:01:32
buffer I think that's a math
1:01:34
joke Okay
1:01:37
I'd have to read it hearing it. I didn't get
1:01:39
it. Tancey bin reads books on the beach under an
1:01:41
umbrella It's it's it's a
1:01:44
joke about academia some at some level
1:01:46
okay It's
1:01:48
over it's over our heads right now Cameron
1:01:52
mural bird 7738 says why
1:01:54
do wizards hate go No
1:01:59
wizards don't hate goats. Wizards
1:02:01
from netheral hate goats. Wizards from netheral
1:02:03
hate goats. Wizards
1:02:06
of the coast doesn't necessarily hate goats. They have a
1:02:08
giant goat stat block and it's pretty good. Hell
1:02:11
yeah. I like it. Some wizards love goats.
1:02:13
I'm finding out that I fucking love
1:02:16
goats. They just come up all the time. Goats
1:02:18
are pretty cool. Like one of their animals, they
1:02:20
have the coolest noises I think. One of
1:02:23
them is like fucking scream. They're little assholes
1:02:26
but they're great. Yeah they're mischievous little assholes.
1:02:28
Trash eaters. So are ducks. Ducks. Except I
1:02:30
don't like ducks. Ducks have a bunch of
1:02:32
really terrible facts about them. Oh ducks are
1:02:34
terrible. Yeah they are. I tell you how
1:02:36
I had to save a duck from a
1:02:38
bunch of ducks. Why'd you do that? Why'd
1:02:40
I save the duck? Because the duck was getting the
1:02:42
shit beat out of it to death. Probably deserved it.
1:02:45
I don't know man. It was brutal. I
1:02:48
was like what am I seeing? People
1:02:50
on the show have heard me tell what you
1:02:53
tell that I hate birds. He does hate
1:02:55
birds. But it's a spectrum. And I like
1:02:58
macaws a lot and like sure okay that's
1:03:00
a great bird. There are some birds that
1:03:02
sing and I like the sound of
1:03:05
their singing. I like budgies a lot. Budgies are great. Okay. I
1:03:08
like birds. Like eagles and hawks. They're alright.
1:03:10
I love eagles a lot. In my book
1:03:12
they're cleaning up vermin or whatever. There was
1:03:14
one literally eating a squirrel outside your house.
1:03:16
That tracks. There's a lot of that probably
1:03:18
going on. I hope
1:03:20
it's not my buddy squirrel that's been hanging out in my backyard.
1:03:23
It was next to your house man. I mean to
1:03:25
be fair there's a huge row
1:03:27
of oak trees outside my house. Absolutely. And
1:03:30
a hawk was eating one of the squirrels. Yeah. Let
1:03:32
nature take its course. Yep. Should have saved
1:03:34
that duck. That
1:03:36
duck needed to be saved. It was brutal
1:03:38
dude. There was blood. It was horrible. I'll
1:03:40
give you a pass. Oh what
1:03:42
ducks are on the bottom of the opposite end
1:03:44
of the spectrum of birds I like and don't
1:03:46
like. They used to attack me. Yeah ducks are
1:03:48
jerks. Yeah. They're jerks to each other. They're jerks
1:03:51
to people. They're just jerks. They're mean. They're a
1:03:53
fucking terrible hockey team. I don't know why anyone
1:03:55
likes it. I have nothing against
1:03:57
hockey. Here
1:04:00
guys actually don't dungeon casters fuck duck
1:04:02
fuck the ducks. That's not the
1:04:05
dungeon cast. That's just me as a Kings fan Okay
1:04:09
Come at me You guys
1:04:11
are golfing. We might be golfing soon, but you know,
1:04:13
whatever Trey
1:04:15
Fox Timestamped
1:04:18
38 18 it could be cool
1:04:20
to use these break off elementals as sort
1:04:22
of nodes that elder elementals can choose to
1:04:24
inhabit Transferring themselves between each of
1:04:26
the elementals summon that way as a
1:04:28
free action once per summoned Elemental to
1:04:30
more easily maneuver around and get behind
1:04:33
players that try to surround them Kind
1:04:35
of like Lich phylactery or vampire casket
1:04:37
without needing to be dropped to negative
1:04:40
HP and with much less recharge
1:04:42
time Cons
1:04:44
I consider it consider that
1:04:46
it's a good idea a moss hive Network
1:04:49
117 says are there darkness and light
1:04:51
elementals kind of kind of
1:04:53
yes. Oh, I assume we'll be getting to that.
1:04:56
Oh I don't know. I
1:04:58
mean the radiance plane is gonna have radiance pair
1:05:00
elementals as for darkness ones We
1:05:02
did talk in the Yans to be an episode about
1:05:04
like the necrometals Which is about as
1:05:06
close as you're really gonna get but I don't know.
1:05:08
Maybe there's vacuum elementals. I don't know. Okay We'll figure
1:05:10
it out as the year, but they're gonna look like
1:05:13
nothing not like darkness. So I don't know I
1:05:16
said I replied to that comment. I said will
1:05:18
says kind of okay. Yeah You
1:05:22
can tune in to figure it out, although
1:05:24
I should have typed that instead of just
1:05:26
saying it here As
1:05:29
a back man as a back ham
1:05:31
says gonna be real this was the
1:05:33
first Arkham arc
1:05:36
elemental to really strike me as very
1:05:38
interesting The others are just kind of
1:05:40
bland compared to figures like the Devils
1:05:42
and demons if I were to
1:05:44
mess around with them I'd probably we rework the others
1:05:46
to be more like him to be
1:05:48
fair. I think all Hydra and it makes are hilarious They
1:05:51
are all hydras really funny Yeah I mean, I
1:05:53
think it makes is also funny and he reminds
1:05:55
me a lot of the fire king from Adventure
1:05:58
Time Yeah, yeah, see been is Absolutely
1:06:00
the most nuanced and interesting for sure I
1:06:02
agree this is like I Wrap
1:06:04
for the episode. I have a deep
1:06:07
deep appreciation of like hammy over
1:06:10
the top comic book style villains ah Obviously
1:06:13
too much is too much and you don't want all your
1:06:15
villains to be like that But sometimes I just love a
1:06:17
villain that knows they're a villain and just loves being a
1:06:19
villain and that shit's great Yeah, it makes definitely fits the
1:06:21
bill there. Yeah JS
1:06:24
Togdill 9 1 9 5 says evil air So
1:06:29
he's the fart lord I Would
1:06:31
say yes, he's the fart lord. Yes,
1:06:33
indeed. I was a smiling sweaty face
1:06:35
emoji Also after
1:06:37
I didn't okay. Thanks for communicating
1:06:39
that yeah David
1:06:42
Robertson 5 9 9
1:06:45
6 says love it when the lore is something I've
1:06:47
never heard of before great work guys keep up the
1:06:49
good Work that's easy when most of
1:06:51
it is fourth edition, so it's something a lot
1:06:53
of people haven't heard of before yeah It says
1:06:55
wills will house will house wheel house Good
1:06:58
job will D
1:07:01
mad Hatter says do farts count as
1:07:03
evil air I agree I think so
1:07:05
do they fall under the pre the
1:07:07
purview of yancy bin who knows probably
1:07:09
we okay? We're gonna say it we
1:07:11
know and the answer is yes sir,
1:07:14
Nuno's lives definitely with will
1:07:17
most of us here despise Wizards of the coast
1:07:19
and Wish the company was
1:07:21
in better hands the management makes it too
1:07:23
easy to hate them Shout
1:07:25
out to companies like Larian and content creators
1:07:27
that have to dance around the giant ship
1:07:29
pile in the room Thanks
1:07:32
for the shirt Yeah,
1:07:34
absolutely And then Lich
1:07:37
Balagar says maybe the new president of Wizards
1:07:39
of the coast can turn watsy around I
1:07:41
hope so at least yeah, there was a
1:07:44
Change of the guard there. Yeah, we'll see I
1:07:47
doubt it. I suppose the real problem more
1:07:50
than anything I think so and I can't
1:07:52
expect the employees of Wizards of the coast
1:07:54
to just like not be complicit
1:07:56
in What they have jobs
1:07:58
to do like what the fuck? Like, I
1:08:00
don't know. I feel bad. Like,
1:08:03
what are they supposed to do? I mean, I don't
1:08:05
know the stories of people who have quit to go
1:08:08
to other places. I imagine they exist, though, which
1:08:10
is admirable. Yeah. Hopefully that
1:08:12
sends a message. Clearly it has not so
1:08:15
far. Or
1:08:17
maybe it was part of the, you know, the
1:08:19
pushback. I
1:08:21
don't want to discredit anybody unnecessarily, is what
1:08:23
I'm trying to say. Yeah. So, 44Naya says,
1:08:26
oh, and I'm also with Will on
1:08:28
this. And I'm with
1:08:31
you guys. Yeah. Because
1:08:34
I think when I first read this, I was like, but me too. Yeah.
1:08:37
I hate these fools. Absolutely. Fuck
1:08:42
the guy. Fuck
1:08:44
Wizards and Hasbros. Anyway, 44Naya
1:08:46
says, what is the rallying cry of
1:08:48
the anti-bans palace workers who want to
1:08:51
unionize? Quote, so,
1:08:53
so, so, solidarity. Solidarity.
1:08:56
Oh, my God. That's
1:09:00
great. Thank you. Tape your waitress. Try
1:09:02
the veal. You've been great. A great
1:09:04
audience. Good night, everybody. That was
1:09:06
in parentheses. Very nice. Indeed. Excellent comment. I
1:09:09
liked it. Sure.
1:09:11
Why not? 2156 says generic comment.
1:09:13
Hey, hey. Hey, thank you. They
1:09:15
fucking appreciate that. Keep doing
1:09:17
it. I love you too, random citizen. Yeah. Silver
1:09:20
Triforce and the O is with a numeric
1:09:22
O. At
1:09:26
timestamp 32 minutes exactly, I
1:09:28
was in the same situation. I created an area
1:09:31
around the vessel determined by its size that keeps
1:09:33
large creatures or objects or smaller
1:09:35
in its artificial gravity
1:09:37
sphere. Another cool effect
1:09:39
is when two vessel spheres intersect,
1:09:42
there's a roll the captions do
1:09:45
and the winner, the cat, I
1:09:47
think of it, captors do, and the winner
1:09:49
sets the relative gravity, which can make the
1:09:51
losers up become down. Interesting. Off
1:09:56
Eden or off of it and says an Order
1:09:59
of. Giant monks and ninjas
1:10:01
dedicated to an evil Arkham Mental
1:10:03
is something my game needs. Your
1:10:06
inc. Haskell, Ah,
1:10:11
Let's see. And
1:10:15
then we have Mcgraw Yancey been hateful, he
1:10:17
howling at his name, of
1:10:20
running with if. That's really
1:10:22
funny. Ah, right. Well. That
1:10:25
was it for the se been comments think he
1:10:27
has so much for interacting with the show. It
1:10:29
was fun interacting with all of you. Will
1:10:32
the have anything else? you are? Yeah I'm into your
1:10:34
brother. Gonna keep on role in. Ah,
1:10:36
we're gonna pass it on the Us. You
1:10:39
take it us pre recorded as you guys are.
1:10:42
I'm my best friends. I
1:10:44
am ready. Welcome to the Creators Corner!
1:10:46
I'm here with David Moyes of. An
1:10:49
author of. Suicide. A
1:10:51
level one to twenty table book for
1:10:53
Fifth Edition Dungeons and Dragons as well
1:10:55
the companion book Tyranny of Dragons Reloaded
1:10:58
Local Supplement or the Dragon Queen on
1:11:00
was Athena database. You so much for
1:11:02
joining us today, smoking, eating, Of
1:11:04
thank you for inviting me. It's nice to meet you as
1:11:07
as well. Ah so I want to
1:11:09
know how did you come to stay? Ah,
1:11:11
as a writer. And
1:11:13
human writing for the indie specifically were just
1:11:15
riding in general on I didn't ask you
1:11:17
about reading for D and specifically the just
1:11:20
reading in general the state would be great.
1:11:22
At so even as a kid
1:11:25
I I I always enjoyed writing
1:11:27
these short one story one page
1:11:29
stories then and stuff like that
1:11:31
for school and just for myself.
1:11:33
And eventually I did try to
1:11:35
make a fool. Novel thing.
1:11:37
Ah, but I never.
1:11:40
Had the determination to actually
1:11:42
finish one to actually get
1:11:44
it's third completion. And
1:11:47
eventually. I started playing the And D
1:11:49
and I guess as for most either the
1:11:51
Ams you start writing stuff so you start
1:11:53
adding notes on post its or on your
1:11:55
phone or what have you have a tan
1:11:58
when you're prepping for next week's set? And
1:12:01
about like three years after we
1:12:03
finished, after playing, so
1:12:06
we essentially finished our first
1:12:08
campaign, I came to
1:12:10
realize that I had an entire folder of
1:12:13
drawings and photos and notes I had
1:12:15
written of stuff that had happened and
1:12:17
what was supposed to have happened and
1:12:19
what had gone wrong, etc. And
1:12:22
at that time I just sort of let it be I thought
1:12:25
oh this would be a nice project one day
1:12:27
like wrap it all up and make it all
1:12:29
nice and readable from start to finish. But
1:12:32
I let it be and we
1:12:34
played another campaign my brother in law, the
1:12:36
campaign for us as opera, the same group
1:12:38
of people that I was playing with. And
1:12:41
randomly at some point I found a
1:12:43
template online, which just let
1:12:45
you write a document
1:12:48
on the style of D&D solo and the
1:12:50
style of the players handbook or the monster
1:12:52
manual. And that's
1:12:54
where the expedition sort of
1:12:56
started. So, based
1:12:59
on that I thought okay now I could
1:13:01
actually you know start writing something. And,
1:13:04
yeah, so so I basically gathered all everything
1:13:07
I have, and I thought it was
1:13:09
going to be something quick for whatever reason it actually took
1:13:11
me like two or three years to get it done. And
1:13:15
I basically had to rewrite everything from my
1:13:17
notes everything from scratch. And
1:13:19
once I finished I had to rewrite everything
1:13:21
again to actually make it cohesive to actually
1:13:23
have a nice plot from start to finish
1:13:25
instead of just random one shot adventures that
1:13:27
had nothing to do with one another. Yeah,
1:13:32
and then I had to learn how to
1:13:34
make maps, because we used to play so
1:13:36
this was before the advent of VTTs right
1:13:38
so this was before COVID we played on
1:13:40
our on a table and we had this
1:13:42
acrylic board where we draw where we drew
1:13:44
stuff on, and we used a lot of
1:13:46
fear of mine. And nowadays
1:13:49
it's more and more prevalent
1:13:51
to start using virtual tabletops
1:13:53
and Foundry and Roll20 so
1:13:55
having maps is a real
1:13:57
asset. So,
1:13:59
yeah. how to make a couple of maps
1:14:01
and I added like to those more prominent places in
1:14:03
the campaign. And
1:14:06
yeah, I think by the end, so it took me,
1:14:09
as I said, like two or three years, by the
1:14:11
end, I actually had a nice book,
1:14:13
a nice product that I thought, oh, this is
1:14:15
awesome. Like, other
1:14:18
people can actually play the same campaign. And
1:14:20
then I left like little tidbits of stuff,
1:14:22
oh, at my table, we did it this
1:14:24
way, and this happened, and I messed this
1:14:27
up. And it was
1:14:29
a really nice way to sort
1:14:31
of immortalize what actually happened in
1:14:33
our residential development. Oh, that's great.
1:14:35
That's a really good story. I'm excited
1:14:37
to hear that it all kind of coalesced
1:14:39
together with B and D as a catalyst,
1:14:41
you know. So that
1:14:44
was your first book. That's what
1:14:46
you're talking
1:14:48
about now, right? With the
1:14:50
book kind of being that campaign that
1:14:52
you guys all played together, manifesting itself
1:14:55
into this project. Yeah,
1:14:57
absolutely. So in the beginning,
1:14:59
when we started playing, we really
1:15:02
didn't have any idea of the rules of what
1:15:04
was going on. So I remember in our first
1:15:06
game ever, I remember like our rogue at some
1:15:08
point said he wanted to stealth. And
1:15:11
because we didn't know what that actually meant,
1:15:13
we thought stealth was kind of world of
1:15:15
Warcraft stealth, so you're just turning visible when
1:15:17
you're stealth. So we were improvising as we
1:15:20
went along. And we were
1:15:22
just fetching random PDF books off of the
1:15:24
internet, et cetera, like free adventures from some
1:15:26
website that had a list of them. And
1:15:29
I want to say it was about like maybe
1:15:31
level five or six. I
1:15:34
started thinking, oh, you know, we could
1:15:36
actually start having recurring villains. And we
1:15:38
could, you know, at this random item
1:15:40
that they found under a couch, this
1:15:42
could actually be like a nice artifact
1:15:44
that could have some. And
1:15:46
that's when I started actually writing my
1:15:49
own things and actually planning ahead, not
1:15:51
like planning 10 levels ahead, because I
1:15:53
don't think that's even
1:15:55
helpful to try and do, but try
1:15:58
and plan at least two or three levels ahead. and
1:16:00
have an idea of, oh, no, this is like the
1:16:02
original villain is this one. Let me drop a hint
1:16:04
here or a clue there. And
1:16:08
yeah, basically, it was our
1:16:10
first campaign. And at the time, we played
1:16:12
21 levels. So
1:16:14
we, again, homegrown a lot of stuff.
1:16:16
We actually allowed everybody to get to
1:16:19
level 20, but also multi-class one single
1:16:21
level in another class. And
1:16:24
we had a bunch of broken other things that
1:16:26
we did. But
1:16:29
yeah, I feel like
1:16:31
I kind of got sidetracked on this first. No,
1:16:33
that's OK. You pretty much
1:16:36
nailed it there. So I
1:16:39
think that's pretty awesome that your
1:16:41
home game turned into this other
1:16:43
project. So I know
1:16:45
your work is available for purchase
1:16:47
with all proceeds being donated to
1:16:49
Doctors Without Borders who provide independent,
1:16:51
impartial medical care to people affected
1:16:53
by things like conflict, disease outbreaks,
1:16:55
natural treatment disasters, anything like that.
1:16:59
So I wanted to know what
1:17:01
inspired your decision to donate the proceeds
1:17:03
from your books to this charity. Yeah.
1:17:06
So there were two main things that
1:17:09
sort of led me down that road.
1:17:11
So first of all, as I said
1:17:13
before, some of the adventures were random
1:17:17
adventures from other people. And
1:17:19
I contacted every author. And just to
1:17:21
let it know, like, OK, I'm writing
1:17:23
a book. I want to donate the
1:17:25
profits for charity because I didn't feel
1:17:27
it was sort of correct to have
1:17:29
profiting of other people's work. Even if
1:17:31
I gave them credit, I didn't feel
1:17:33
that was right. So
1:17:37
that was one step. And all authors, except
1:17:39
for one, they said it was
1:17:42
totally fine to use their adventures as long as I credit
1:17:44
them. The author that refused,
1:17:46
I had to rewrite the whole
1:17:48
adventure. And then that chapter's villain
1:17:50
I named after the authors, just
1:17:52
as a memento for him. And
1:17:56
so that was the first reason. So some
1:17:58
of the work wasn't entirely mine, I didn't
1:18:00
feel like profiting off their work. The
1:18:02
other reason, and this is more, let's
1:18:05
say, philosophical one, I don't
1:18:08
really need the money. I live,
1:18:10
thank God, a good life. And there are a lot
1:18:12
of people out there that need it
1:18:14
way more than I do. And when
1:18:16
I was publishing the books around the same time,
1:18:18
that was when the war on Ukraine
1:18:20
started, so the invasion by Russia. And
1:18:23
I thought, okay, this is the perfect
1:18:26
catalyst, it's fresh on everybody's mind. So
1:18:28
it will also help, like, people will
1:18:30
donate more because they have
1:18:32
the war in mind. And Doctors
1:18:34
Without Borders were being deployed in
1:18:37
Ukraine at the time. And I thought, okay, this
1:18:39
is the perfect opportunity to help those people and
1:18:43
sort of do my part for
1:18:45
them. Definitely. I agree.
1:18:48
Doctors Without Borders is a wonderful organization.
1:18:50
So I'm happy for your pick and
1:18:52
very admirable. I'm happy to hear that from
1:18:54
you. So next question
1:18:56
is what inspired the decision? Oh,
1:18:59
no, sorry, I just read that. But can
1:19:01
you tell us about your upcoming, or not your
1:19:03
upcoming project, it's out now, Tyranny
1:19:05
of Dragons Reloaded. Can you explain that a little
1:19:07
bit? Yeah,
1:19:10
sure. So it basically
1:19:12
it is meant to be a
1:19:14
companion book to the original tyranny
1:19:16
of dragons campaign. So the first
1:19:18
big campaign for Dungeons and Dragons
1:19:20
fifth edition. So
1:19:24
there are a bunch of issues with that
1:19:26
campaign. I'm not sure if you guys have
1:19:28
played it already. We
1:19:30
haven't played it, but we're aware that it's kind of
1:19:32
a rough dive. Yeah,
1:19:34
so there are a lot of issues
1:19:37
there. So one of the big
1:19:39
complaints is that it's a very
1:19:41
railroady sort of campaign. But
1:19:45
again, once you play it, at the end,
1:19:47
you sort of understand that there's like this
1:19:49
premise that players do need to like follow
1:19:51
along, they need to go along with the
1:19:53
DM and say, Yeah, sure, let's let's chase
1:19:55
after the bad guys. But not only that,
1:20:00
But there are a lot of issues
1:20:02
just based on balance, for example.
1:20:04
So you can tell that the
1:20:07
authors, they were writing this as they were
1:20:09
writing the Monster Manual or something. And
1:20:12
if I remember correctly, I read this some time ago.
1:20:15
At some point, they rewrote the monsters from the
1:20:17
Monster Manual. They made them
1:20:19
a lot stronger, but they sort of
1:20:21
forgot to update the campaign. So
1:20:24
what happens is that you have levels where, let's
1:20:26
say you're like, just the first level. The
1:20:28
first level was pretty infamous. So
1:20:31
you're a bunch of level one characters, and you
1:20:33
go into this city that's being pillaged, and
1:20:35
you're meant to have like five or six
1:20:37
encounters with groups of five or six cultists
1:20:40
all at the same time. And it's a
1:20:42
sort of encounter that if you get one
1:20:44
wrong role, you die, right? And
1:20:47
yeah, so there are a lot of
1:20:49
levels like this that really are not balanced at all.
1:20:53
They're not feasible for a typical inexperienced
1:20:55
party to actually be able to succeed
1:20:59
through. So this companion
1:21:01
book is meant to basically give you
1:21:03
a bunch of help, you the DM,
1:21:05
a bunch of help in prepping this
1:21:07
session. So it adds new levels in
1:21:10
between some campaigns or in specific cities where there
1:21:12
was not really anything to do from the book.
1:21:15
You have side quests and stuff you can do
1:21:17
there. It also gives you
1:21:19
additional information about the NPCs, about
1:21:21
the cities, new locations that
1:21:23
you can explore. It gives you balance
1:21:25
tips. So it says, OK, let you
1:21:27
like, you should probably change this or
1:21:29
remove these enemies or add something else
1:21:31
because, you know, that might be difficult
1:21:33
or too easy depending on the situation
1:21:35
for a given group. It
1:21:38
gives you a bunch of maps. So
1:21:40
the subreddit, the Trinity of Dragons subreddit
1:21:43
has an incredible
1:21:45
amount of just amazing artwork and
1:21:47
maps for any part
1:21:49
of the campaign. So again, I contacted
1:21:51
all authors of maps and I asked
1:21:53
them, like, your map is amazing. Can I have this? I'm
1:21:55
using it myself. Can I put it in a book? And
1:21:58
they said, yeah, I will grab it. The have. I'm
1:22:01
and again pretty pretty great if you're
1:22:03
using a virtual tabletop to just have
1:22:05
maps were the at least for our
1:22:07
table. we feel like it's a good
1:22:09
thing again his ult may vary but
1:22:11
it's very nice to just have different
1:22:13
maps are different occasions and it makes
1:22:16
it makes every so often location more
1:22:18
memorable. We feel. And
1:22:20
the yeah it's it's basically it's basically just
1:22:22
a collection of of be sort of helpful
1:22:24
thanks to to help a D M go
1:22:26
from level one to fifteen because I think
1:22:28
it's also one of the biggest campaigns. That's
1:22:31
been released for fifth edition. Ah, without
1:22:33
having to prep so much and improvise
1:22:35
so much and polishing all the rough
1:22:38
edges that one may expect. Oh,
1:22:41
that sounds really great. I had sounds
1:22:43
kind of necessary to and you're playing
1:22:45
along with that the original adventure. So
1:22:47
ah, it's as if you didn't Great
1:22:49
worked on Wilton Audience found you Stuff.
1:22:53
So erm, the books are available on
1:22:55
Dmz guilds I'm I'm not sure if
1:22:57
you guys can drop a in the
1:22:59
description of this video or not, but
1:23:01
if you cannot, you can just search
1:23:03
for the a size or tyranny of
1:23:05
dragons reloaded on the unskilled and you
1:23:07
should be able to find it. On
1:23:10
it's pay what you once or whatever you want
1:23:12
to donate. It to
1:23:14
it goes to to charity. I'm and
1:23:17
if you don't have the means to donate than
1:23:19
you can just drop a zero there and you
1:23:21
get the adventure for free. Try it out and
1:23:23
are can least some feedback if you want to
1:23:25
sell. Just.
1:23:28
Really did feel you know if people wanted
1:23:30
to. I did go to Dm skill the
1:23:32
detected are and I did see that. Are
1:23:34
you are encouraging people to ah if
1:23:37
they wanted to. i just grabbed
1:23:39
the pdf and then move on to
1:23:41
doctors without borders and drop a donation
1:23:43
their which is very cool an admirable
1:23:45
again so yeah so that that specific
1:23:47
event has to do with the recently
1:23:50
bought called by wizards off the coast
1:23:52
with the o j l thing out
1:23:54
and i knew there were a lot
1:23:56
of people complaining at the time that
1:23:58
they weren't gonna buy anymore Wizards of
1:24:00
the Coast products because they lost trust
1:24:03
in the company, which I get
1:24:05
it. And so I thought, okay, like
1:24:07
Wizards of the Coast does take
1:24:09
a share of whatever money is used
1:24:13
in the end's guild. So if people wanted to
1:24:15
donate directly, I dropped the link there. And
1:24:18
we sort of lose track of how much money has been
1:24:20
earned by the project, which is kind of sad, but at
1:24:22
the same time, that means more money going to charity. So
1:24:24
in the end, it's worth it, I think. Yeah,
1:24:26
that is a little bit of a misfortune. Definitely,
1:24:30
you know, everybody was put in a little
1:24:32
bit of a position when that happened. So
1:24:34
it's understandable, but I don't want
1:24:37
to get side effect. Well, thank you so
1:24:39
much, David. We really appreciate having you on. It
1:24:41
was great getting to talk to you and getting to learn a little
1:24:43
bit more about your products and your books. So really
1:24:46
appreciate having you on and we hope we can talk to you
1:24:48
again. Do you have anything else upcoming at the moment? Yes,
1:24:52
so we did Tyranny
1:24:55
of Dragons, my table, and now we're moving
1:24:57
on to Descent into Avernus and we're going
1:24:59
to play this as a tier four campaign.
1:25:01
So we got to level 16 or something
1:25:04
to campaign and now we're going to do
1:25:06
Descent into Avernus up to level 20 and
1:25:08
we're going to basically mix a bit of
1:25:10
TMS in there because she's stuck in Avernus
1:25:12
as well. So
1:25:14
my next plan is to basically just write
1:25:17
a tier four version of Descent into Avernus,
1:25:20
a little bit of the Alexandrian remix. Again, I'm
1:25:22
not sure if you've heard of this, but
1:25:24
it's basically a homebrew sort of
1:25:28
remix of the campaign where instead of, again,
1:25:30
being this sort of railroad idea, it's more
1:25:32
of a sandbox sort of approach and you
1:25:34
can decide where to go in Avernus and
1:25:36
there's always stuff to do wherever you want
1:25:38
to go. So yeah, I want
1:25:40
to do I want to basically do like
1:25:42
this high level version and that's the current
1:25:44
plan. Again, who knows if it's all going
1:25:46
to come to fruition. It always depends on
1:25:49
a bunch of things. But
1:25:52
yeah, let's see how it goes. Maybe in a few months
1:25:54
we'll have something else published. Great.
1:25:57
Well, I'll keep an eye out and you can let
1:25:59
us know. If you put out anything else,
1:26:01
we'd love to talk to you again. But other
1:26:03
than that, we're going to call it right there.
1:26:05
So thanks again, David. Really appreciate it. Thank
1:26:08
you. The pleasure was all mine.
1:26:10
And yeah, I hope to talk with you
1:26:12
guys again one day. We got Drakenstar news.
1:26:16
What is it, Will? Star Seekers Guide
1:26:18
to Drakenstar, the back-to-kid is finally closed.
1:26:20
No longer taking pre-orders. Thank you, everyone,
1:26:22
for supporting it. We raised just
1:26:25
enough money to get all this done. And
1:26:27
I'm very proud of it. Can't wait
1:26:29
to get it into your heads as hands. This
1:26:32
last week and a half, I have been battle
1:26:34
testing for hours and hours on
1:26:36
end between all the starships and
1:26:38
making tweaks and adjustments. We
1:26:41
should have this thing finished when
1:26:43
it comes to the writing and editing by the end of
1:26:45
June. Hopefully, we'll be
1:26:48
looking at the formatting and design
1:26:50
done by the end of July
1:26:52
and production beginning in August. Very
1:26:55
excited. And thank you
1:26:57
guys again. Can't wait to give you
1:26:59
guys more news as things develop. Yeah,
1:27:01
congratulations, Will, on getting that closed out.
1:27:04
And good luck on the next
1:27:06
upcoming stuff for you. We've got a new
1:27:08
merch shop that is running in tandem with
1:27:10
our old merch shop. So the old merch
1:27:13
shop is still around, but
1:27:15
you can find the new
1:27:17
merch shop at babayagasyardsale.com. Indeed,
1:27:20
where our fan of the
1:27:22
show, Dustin, is the artist
1:27:24
and curator and owner of the store and
1:27:28
he's been making some really killer
1:27:31
Dungeon Cast content on there. The
1:27:33
Bahamut's Gym and a couple
1:27:36
of the Demogorgon ones being my favorite. We have more coming
1:27:38
in the works, but if you have
1:27:40
not checked out these designs, I highly recommend you
1:27:42
go check them out because they look super cool.
1:27:44
Link is in the description. I've
1:27:46
never been so excited about Dungeon Cast
1:27:48
merch before. We need an ooze room.
1:27:52
Absolutely, anything ooze related, I'm super down. I need
1:27:54
to make some orders. I need to order some
1:27:56
of these shirts and support them on the show.
1:27:58
We need an ooze. Roomba with
1:28:00
a claymore like poking out of it. So
1:28:03
one that can also is home defense Absolutely
1:28:05
cleans your house like stabs your cat.
1:28:07
Well, talk to Dustin man. Yeah, maybe
1:28:09
he'll hear this. Yeah, it'll happen anyway
1:28:14
Thank you to everybody who has been sending
1:28:18
Letters emails we are going to be reading those
1:28:20
at the end of the show. So if you
1:28:22
want to reach out I
1:28:24
believe it's one seven eight four up in California
1:28:26
nine one seven eight six for our PO box
1:28:28
but that is down in the description below do
1:28:31
not go off of what I just said and
1:28:33
Then you can go off of what I'm
1:28:36
I'm gonna say for this you can email
1:28:38
us at the dungeon cast@gmail.com With
1:28:40
some fan mail. We will read it on the show
1:28:43
if it's appropriate if it's inappropriate. I'll just look at
1:28:45
it and giggle and if
1:28:48
Yeah, if you guys want to do that We're also
1:28:50
as you know reading YouTube comments Apple
1:28:52
podcast reviews all this stuff is is
1:28:54
really great We like interacting with
1:28:57
you guys, but the Apple podcast reviews in
1:28:59
particular help boost the show
1:29:01
the algorithm notices your love and
1:29:03
Will pedal it to others that
1:29:05
may want to love the dungeon
1:29:07
cast as well, even though they don't know yet
1:29:10
Well, feel free to send questions if you have questions
1:29:12
for us And if they are on
1:29:14
topic like I don't see any reason why we can't
1:29:16
read and talk about you know answer those really quickly
1:29:19
Yeah You
1:29:21
know you guys don't know the future of what we're
1:29:23
gonna record But if you had a question about something
1:29:25
we said or blah blah blah, you know YouTube
1:29:28
comment is good But email or you know snail
1:29:30
mail is fine, too. Yeah, we'll read it Anyway,
1:29:34
we got Social
1:29:36
media social media plugs. What do we got
1:29:38
going on in social media? Well, we got
1:29:41

1:29:48

1:29:53
there's something per knit you guys will be seeing stuff on
1:29:55
there. Yep. Yep. Yep, and
1:29:58
we've got discord So if you guys I'd
1:30:00
like to join our discord. That's a big one
1:30:02
ask us in real time more
1:30:04
or less. Yeah, we do get around That's where
1:30:06
the community for the show in a big way
1:30:08
lives is on discord Constant.
1:30:12
It's constantly awesome to see all the chatter
1:30:14
and all the the the sharing and the
1:30:16
and it's just the bonding and us Getting
1:30:18
in there too and the mix is nice
1:30:21
And yeah, I would say that's the number
1:30:23
one social media platform for the dungeon cast.
1:30:25
Let's check out the discord Yeah, it's more
1:30:27
like a greater Tabletop RPG sort of community,
1:30:29
you know, it kind of extends beyond the
1:30:31
dungeon cast But yeah, we are we are
1:30:34
on there and available including Jake
1:30:36
your special guest Jake and Josh Freeland who
1:30:38
will answer questions A lot of people will
1:30:41
tag them for super quest saga stuff sometimes
1:30:43
or f-bat stuff. So Yeah,
1:30:45
go check that that stuff out Are
1:30:48
we missing anything? Is that the end of it? No,
1:30:50
I think that covers it. Yeah, man. All right Well,
1:30:53
we're gonna call it a game. All right. We'll call
1:30:55
the game. We'll talk to you guys later Bye You
1:31:12
know, sorry, this is a tangent you're gonna need to cut it
1:31:14
but you know when In
1:31:18
baseball when you get on base, there's you like a
1:31:20
little celebration the team will do at each other Yeah,
1:31:22
and the one that the Dodgers are
1:31:24
doing this year is the DBZ Fusion Oh
1:31:27
my god in honor of Akira Toriyama
1:31:30
dying. Oh, yeah, it's pretty cool.
1:31:32
Thanks. Yeah, that's sad. It is sad, but it's awful
1:31:34
awesome Hey
1:31:36
there, this is Justin Bartha I made
1:31:38
a funny new podcast king of the
1:31:40
egg cream It has the greatest cast
1:31:42
in the history of podcasts with actors
1:31:44
like Lewis Black I'm torn by my
1:31:46
feelings for two women Bobby Kannavale You
1:31:48
can eat it or if someone hits
1:31:50
you put it on your cut Melanie
1:31:52
Lynskey I wonder what these marvelous things
1:31:55
are that look just like boiled chicken
1:31:57
feet Jason Ritter. I can break things
1:31:59
and pick love and kill
1:32:01
people. Michael Stuhlberg. The whole
1:32:03
point is to inspire people that they
1:32:05
should make themselves better. Ari Greiner.
1:32:07
No, don't wet its appetite. What
1:32:09
are you, an idiot? Me, Justin
1:32:12
Martha. That's not just any egg
1:32:14
cream, that's a Lemke's special. And
1:32:16
all narrated by the hilarious Richard
1:32:18
Kind. This is the story of
1:32:20
Harry Dallowance, and how
1:32:22
he rose from nothing to
1:32:24
become New York's king of the egg cream.
1:32:28
So if you like funny true stories, come listen to
1:32:30
King of the Egg Cream, available wherever you get your
