6:00

two weeks. So it'd be two weeks, no fod,

6:02

but we'll be back on July 17. And

6:05

on that day, we're going to

6:07

have a lot of fun stuff to talk about as

6:09

well. But I said, okay, what I mean to say

6:11

is, since we're not going to be on for two

6:13

weeks, there's a lot of news to get to right

6:15

now, to cover the next couple of weeks of stuff

6:17

that's coming down the pike. Of course, we'll talk about

6:19

episode 40 of the GCP. And then we are stupid.

6:21

And I'm going to give a little extra time to

6:23

listener mail since there isn't that much to talk about

6:25

in the episode this week, in terms

6:27

of analyzation, because it was a great just like

6:30

kind of role play and move the plot in

6:32

an interesting direction episode. Alright,

6:34

so let's start with news, just a

6:36

couple plugs real quick today, Wednesday, June

6:38

26, I'm going to be streaming at

6:40

11am Eastern Time on our Twitch channel.

6:42

If you have not, if

6:44

you're listening to this in the morning, and you

6:47

can catch it, I'm streaming more Elden Ring, I'm

6:49

very excited to do want to run to the

6:51

DLC. Very excited about that. I've

6:53

got this path in mind, I'm going to be

6:55

streaming at that time, that is going to hopefully

6:57

be like, like

7:00

a way to skip a whole ton of bosses, and

7:02

just get to Moog, where you have to get.

7:05

But like, I'll be way underleveled. So we'll just

7:07

see if it's like even possible. Well, I want

7:09

to ask you about this. So like, I

7:12

kind of want to do it. And

7:14

my character that I platinumed with, I just I'm

7:16

like, well, it would be so easy to just

7:19

go in there, be overleveled and do it. But

7:21

I kind of want to start over. But as

7:23

I started to research it, it was like, if

7:25

you want to do it, and

7:27

be of a commensurate level for what is supposed

7:30

to be a very hard DLC, you

7:32

should really invest 50 to 60 hours

7:34

of gameplay doing it like

7:37

doing x, y and z. Leveling yourself up.

7:39

I don't know if I have another 50

7:41

60 hours I never beat but beat starfield

7:43

yet I want to go beat that. So

7:46

I don't know I'm so torn I could also you

7:50

know, respect the character and I don't know,

7:52

I don't know what to do. So it

7:54

is it's in my mind as a potential

7:57

option if I have to fall back on

7:59

it the character, but I have

8:01

a spec in mind I want to go in with, and

8:03

part of this, I'm going to put at least

8:05

20 to 30 hours into it. Part of that

8:08

is going to be learning how to play the

8:10

new spec, right? Like if I just read,

8:12

it's like, oh, I have a 15th level paladin.

8:14

And I'm like, all right, well, now I'm going

8:16

to play a 15th level wizard at the next

8:18

session. I'm just going to respect like, you're

8:21

going to be abysmal at that thing

8:23

unless you like, unless you evolve with

8:25

it and you know, the weapon moves

8:27

and the weapon sets and because I'm

8:29

moving from a caster build to a

8:31

straight, strong strength and endurance build, heavy

8:33

armor, heavy poise, large colossal weapons, and

8:35

I want to play with that, but

8:37

I've never really done that before. And

8:39

so I want to, I want

8:42

to learn it as I go, and I'm

8:44

going to play a lot of it off

8:46

air so that as soon as possible, I

8:48

can get to Shatter of the Urd Tree

8:50

on air. Anyway, that's, that's the idea. I'll

8:52

be streaming that today, Wednesday at 11am Eastern.

8:55

You're streaming tomorrow, Thursday, you're back to Baldur's

8:57

Gate. So that's great. That's it. I'm just

8:59

my last, this is my last stream. Yeah,

9:01

I've done everything except the final boss.

9:04

Oh, wow. I didn't realize that. Yeah. I mean,

9:06

I don't know if it's going to be a

9:08

two hour stream. It will go a little long

9:10

or if I'm going to have to like, you

9:12

know, you can usually tell pretty early like, fuck, I

9:14

got to reload a save. I got to scum save

9:17

here. So we'll see. It's definitely

9:19

going to be my last stream one way or another. I'd

9:21

like to beat the game on stream. But

9:23

I don't I haven't looked to see like,

9:25

how long the elder

9:27

brain fight is and like all the

9:29

other shit that goes down because there's

9:31

a couple other like quests, personal quests

9:33

that you can only do at at

9:36

the finale. I think you're given like choices

9:38

throughout the fight. So so we'll see.

9:41

I've done everything that I could possibly want to do

9:43

in that game. I have only

9:45

one real open quest and that's to go.

9:48

All right, well, you heard it here.

9:51

Do not miss the finale of all

9:54

the same. Oh, same stuff.

9:56

Dickerson, stiff, Dickerson. Yeah, I started

9:58

this fucking character. I

12:01

remember seeing the first five minutes at some point

12:03

late at night, like maybe at somebody's place or

12:05

something hanging out, and I was just like, alright,

12:07

this isn't my vibe, like the overly disgusting and

12:10

overly foul and fourth wall breaking. I was like,

12:12

it's not really my thing. But once

12:14

you settle into it, it is a great character

12:16

and a really good origin story. And so I

12:18

was just like, I'm so into this. And

12:21

so, yeah, I'm looking forward to watching too.

12:23

And then Deadpool

12:25

Wolverine and then just like getting

12:27

in the zone for that show. You're really doing

12:30

a lot more research than I will. I was never been

12:32

a big Deadpool guy and just anybody

12:34

loves Deadpool. I think everybody loves

12:36

Deadpool because he looks like Spider-Man, but he

12:38

swears and has like guns.

12:41

Yes, exactly. And that's what I thought too. And I kind of

12:44

wrote it off. I really like

12:46

his origin story. It's a fantastic origin story.

12:49

And so it's just really like, it's

12:51

just a take that I never thought of before,

12:53

you know, on the whole X-Men mutant thing. And

12:56

it's really, really fun. So I'm very excited

12:58

to dig into that. I think we still

13:00

have Marvel Unlimited. You should read, go back

13:02

and read some of the comics. Yeah, yeah,

13:05

absolutely. I'm also going

13:07

to be doing Faster Purple Worms Saturday

13:09

at Comic Con. I don't know what

13:11

the time, I can't remember what the time is. I feel

13:13

like it's five o'clock, but I'm going to be sneaking another

13:15

show. I might be on a panel Saturday morning too. So

13:18

listen, if you're in, if you're coming to Comic Con, please

13:20

come see our shows. If you're

13:22

in LA, California, Vegas, anywhere in Southern California

13:24

area, just come and see the fucking shows.

13:26

It'll be worth it to get a day

13:29

pass and see these shows. The show that

13:31

we did at Comic Con last year was

13:33

so good. And it never saw the light

13:35

of day. You know, I think

13:37

they're going to try and film it this time around, but you never

13:39

know. Anything could go wrong. So if you

13:41

can come out there and see it live, we'd love

13:44

to have you supporting us. We're going to be at

13:46

the con this year, primetime. It's fucking Marvel. This is

13:48

a big deal. So please come out if you can.

13:50

Yeah, come out if you can. And all you need

13:52

is a pass to the con. This isn't like you

13:54

got to buy tickets to the show. You just got

13:56

to have a pass to the con and it's free

13:58

to come to the show. Get

14:00

a date pass. All right, awesome. And then last

14:03

thing is, I don't know,

14:05

you've talked about this, you've teased this a little bit.

14:07

I'm not sure how much it sunk in with people.

14:09

When we made the decision to change over

14:11

what we're doing at the booth this year, and

14:14

that we weren't gonna do live broadcasting from

14:16

the booth, but instead do those gauntlets and

14:18

play with the nash in the booth, we

14:20

decided that we wanted to still have content

14:23

for those that couldn't make it to Indianapolis,

14:25

and those that just wanna hang out on

14:27

the floor and watch it from the booth.

14:29

We're gonna be premiering new content every day

14:32

of the Gen Con weekend on YouTube, and

14:34

we're crushing through this stuff right now. Like

14:36

we're in the midst of recording stuff, you're

14:38

not gonna see it yet, we're grinding away in

14:40

the background, so things might be like a

14:42

little quiet, but all of a sudden that weekend

14:45

at Gen Con, you're gonna get new premier

14:47

actual play content from Chaosium,

14:49

from Paizo, from Evil Hat,

14:51

from Marvel, separate

14:53

from San Diego Comic Con. All new

14:56

stuff, free leak and more. We were gonna

14:58

be playing Renegade, or we'll be playing a

15:00

bunch of different games. Actual

15:02

plays are gonna premiere all weekend long on YouTube.

15:04

We'll come back with all different specific titles for

15:07

you and games that we're gonna be playing when

15:09

we can hit back the next FOD on July

15:11

17th. So tune into

15:13

that FOD and we'll have more specific info on

15:16

what games we're playing and what times we're gonna kinda

15:18

land and stuff. Yeah, it'll be 10 a.m. to 6

15:20

p.m. Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and then

15:22

that short day on Sunday, at least.

15:25

So it'll be just like the years

15:27

pass, except it won't be happening live.

15:30

I can't wait, there's some really fun stuff.

15:32

I'm gonna play in something. I've switched out,

15:34

I'm gonna have UGM something, and I'm gonna

15:36

go, just so I can go play in

15:38

something, even though I don't play anymore. And

15:41

yeah, dude, that whole, I cannot believe that

15:44

we're already in Gen Con mode,

15:47

because we start Gen Con mode January, but

15:49

now we're a month away, it's crazy. Yeah,

15:51

it's crazy how fast it's gonna be. Getting

15:53

to play those gauntlets this weekend, I cannot

15:55

wait to run the gauntlets in the booth,

15:57

and we're gonna have the terrain in the

15:59

3D minutes. and everything and

16:02

there's only a few slots left. There are I

16:04

think there's Jared's got a

16:06

11 30 a.m. on

16:08

Thursday slot that's the second slot because I

16:10

open up the booth with my slot that

16:12

sold out. Jaren has the 11 30

16:15

there's a couple tickets left to that

16:17

and then Matthew Thursday at 12 45

16:21

one ticket left. Jared Thursday at 3 30

16:23

there's a couple tickets Jared

16:25

Thursday at 4 45

16:28

one ticket and then Jared Friday

16:31

at 12 45 one

16:33

ticket so there's really only a couple tickets

16:35

left for these gauntlets and if I was

16:37

going no offense to

16:39

anybody else I would play in

16:41

a Jaren gauntlet. Especially hearing the

16:43

stuff that he pulled at

16:46

the Nashville retreat. I mean they

16:48

were screaming constantly like left and

16:50

right there was he played the

16:52

one ring and he did Kazadoom

16:55

and like replayed that whole thing and he

16:57

had all these point systems for how much

17:00

noise they're making and will they write raise the

17:02

ballrog and fighting all the goblins and orcs whatever.

17:04

So I mean they had a blast and then

17:06

he ran he ran a call of

17:08

Cthulhu and basically just did the

17:10

end of a long-term campaign. It's like

17:13

because you only had a two-hour slot

17:15

so basically that it began with Cthulhu

17:17

rising out of the water and they

17:20

just had to fight Cthulhu. That's amazing.

17:22

He was just cracking

17:25

up he was literally laughing out

17:27

loud and cackling at Cthulhu's stats.

17:29

He was like you should you should see

17:31

this he's telling the players I wish you could

17:33

look at this I wish you could look at

17:35

this yeah he's like I roll to hit oh

17:38

87 that's a hit just like

17:41

ridiculous ridiculous stuff but anyway they all

17:43

had I mean they were just raving the next day

17:45

about it so yeah anyway I would

17:47

plan a Jared table as well. Alright

17:50

let's get into the glass can of podcasts

17:52

here episode 40 I know it's

17:55

been a few weeks since you've recorded this and

17:57

we have been on the go this whole weekend

26:00

or it could be nature straight

26:02

up for physics and astronomy, or

26:05

society for stories of civilizations

26:08

of other planets, you know, whatever in the solar system.

26:10

So we could see it be in any one of

26:12

those three and it's all about kind of how you

26:14

set the DCs and stuff like that. But the main

26:17

takeaway he wanted us to remember is, lores

26:19

are designed to further specify a

26:22

line of knowledge within a skill,

26:24

not to be a standalone thing you must

26:26

have in order to attempt to learn something.

26:28

Everything fits in one way or another within

26:30

those skills. It's just about how as a

26:32

GM you interpret it. So that sort of...

26:35

Here's a question I want to throw. We

26:37

were talking about, did we

26:39

talk about this at lunch? Or

26:41

maybe it was one of the Lyft rides

26:43

I brought it up and it's like me,

26:45

you, Jared and Skid were in the car.

26:47

And I said, because we're talking about, you

26:49

know, the stinginess of knowledge checks and with

26:51

some of the monsters we were running for

26:53

the gauntlet, we were convincing with each other.

26:55

And I said, like, if you

26:58

roll a success on a knowledge check and

27:02

a creature has nine immunities

27:05

and it's just a regular success, do you give

27:07

them one immunity, two immunities, all

27:10

the immunities, if that's what they asked for?

27:12

I'm curious what other GMs do. I'm curious

27:14

what the people who play a lot of

27:17

PFS, how they tend to run it. Let's

27:20

assume a monster that has several different

27:22

bullshits. Like they got immunities, they got resistance,

27:25

they've got weakness, they've got some death throes,

27:27

like cool powers that you'd want to know

27:29

about. If you're like, immunities, if you're like,

27:31

well, and you look at all these, they're

27:33

like, immune to bleed. But there's

27:35

also nine other immunities. I'm curious how people

27:38

would... Yeah, Professor Eric has waited on this

27:40

before and says the top... Not

27:42

this specifically, but he's weighed in and said

27:44

the top thing that people typically ask for

27:46

is what they call IRW, immunities, resistances, weaknesses.

27:49

These are like the key things that people

27:51

want to know in a recall

27:53

knowledge checkup on a creature during a fight.

27:56

And I... Yeah, so let's

27:58

further specify, Professor Eric, and get us your

28:00

thoughts. on this? Does that mean you can

28:02

get, you could ask for just the immunities,

28:04

just the resistances or just the weaknesses as

28:06

part of a successful check? Or is

28:09

it like you ask, what are its immunities,

28:11

resistances, weaknesses? And then you can kind of

28:13

pick one. Do you, if they

28:15

just pick immunities, do you give them,

28:17

oh, they're immune to death effects, they're

28:19

poison, bleed, whatever. Or

28:22

do you pick one? What

28:24

I remember, what I said in the car is I

28:27

give them one, potentially

28:29

two, depending on how high the role is,

28:32

that I think are directly related to their

28:34

PC's abilities that they would normally use in

28:36

combat. So like, that is what

28:38

I do. I can give them the most

28:40

valuable of those immunities and weaknesses and resistances.

28:42

Sometimes it's hard for you to know, though.

28:44

But not all of them. No, no, you

28:46

don't know the PC's skills well enough. Like,

28:49

I don't know what Aldo's got up his

28:51

sleeve during the live show. And if you

28:53

guys face a skeleton that's immune to bleed,

28:55

death effects, disease, mental, paralyzed, poison, and unconscious,

28:57

I can't just think like, what

28:59

are the two things that would be most

29:01

relevant here? Sometimes I can. But

29:03

I'm curious, like, if what's the, I

29:05

don't think as written, what's the standard in, especially

29:07

in like a PFS? Yeah, I'd be curious to

29:09

know like, what's kind of the standard? Because if

29:11

you get all the immunities, if that's like the

29:13

standard, that would be the one that I would

29:16

rock. I would just be like, tell me immunities,

29:18

because it's rare that they're resistant to 10 different

29:20

things, or weak to 10 different

29:22

things. But oftentimes, certain, you know,

29:24

creatures have tons of

29:26

immunities and knowing that is clutch.

29:28

Yeah. All right, real

29:31

quick, going back again to the thaumaturge,

29:33

Matthew didn't do anything wrong. He said

29:35

Matthew was correct that exploit vulnerability is

29:37

not a recall knowledge with esoteric lore,

29:39

and therefore unmistakable lore would not apply

29:41

to the check against a creature. However,

29:44

you can you he can use esoteric

29:46

lore as a general recall knowledge check,

29:48

albeit at a minus two for you

29:51

know, kind of any other knowledge skill

29:53

that's built into the class. So however,

29:56

when he takes unmistakable lore, which

29:58

if you recall, That means whenever

30:02

he critically fails at a

30:05

knowledge check, he just fails. So

30:07

he never gets incorrect information. He just

30:09

doesn't get, you know, so he has

30:12

unmistakable lore, which means he can't get it

30:14

wrong. He can only just get nothing. But

30:17

he also combines that with diverse lore, which

30:19

is built into the Thaumaturge. Diverse

30:22

lore allows you on a failure

30:25

to get one piece of correct

30:27

information and one piece of incorrect

30:29

information as part of a failure.

30:32

So Professor Eric is like, if you line

30:34

all of these things up, this is something

30:36

that really the GM needs to think about

30:39

and discuss and come to a decision to

30:41

on how it's going to play. Because

30:43

to quote Professor Eric, when you combine

30:46

dubious knowledge, which is you get one

30:48

correct and one incorrect on every failure,

30:51

unmistakable lore, which means every critical failure

30:53

is a failure, and the minus two

30:55

penalty from esoteric lore, meaning you're going

30:57

to fail more often than not probably,

31:01

is that you're going to

31:03

have an exceptional number of triggering dubious

31:05

knowledge, one correct, one incorrect, which can

31:08

annoy some GMs to quote him. So

31:11

like, that really does like combine into something

31:13

that could get super irritating. So it's just

31:15

just something to think about and

discuss with Matthew how you guys want to approach

31:19

like, are you going to come

31:21

up with a fake correct answer every single time he fails,

31:23

which by the way, is going to be more than 50%

31:26

of the time, and every critical fail is

31:28

also a regular fail. So he always gets one

31:30

piece of correct information. It's like, it's

31:33

a very strange combination of abilities that are frustrating

31:35

on GMs. I'll just let him pick another ability.

31:38

There you go. There you go. I mean, it's

31:40

just like, when I think of all the things

31:42

I like about the games, that's like, that's

31:44

one of the things that just, it doesn't interest me

31:46

at all as a game master or a player is

31:49

like, here's some fake knowledge. Yes,

31:51

I hear it too. It's

31:53

hard enough for players to know what's

31:55

going on period. And now you

31:57

got to lead them astray. I mean, whenever I've done.
