When Tony and Leona first learned about the outbreak of a novel coronavirus in Wuhan, China, their family had just recovered from a flu-like illness with mysterious symptoms. As SARS-CoV-2 spread throughout the world, hospitals in New York City were pushed to the brink of capacity and desperately needed ICU nurses. In the midst of an unprecedented national lockdown and mass contagion of fear, Leona signed up to be a travel nurse. She worked in COVID-19 ICUs at hospitals in New York City, Florida, and California. By the end of her last contract, Leona started to question whether public health policies were causing more harm than good. She began to research the most pressing questions of the pandemic:
What is the origin of SARS-CoV-2? Has it been spreading for longer than we’ve been told? Are hospital protocols and mechanical ventilators killing Covid patients? Is it ethical to deny hospital patients visitors? Are Covid deaths overcounted? Does community masking prevent transmission of an airborne virus? Did the lockdowns work or primarily cause harm? Is remdesivir safe and effective? Have people always ignored natural immunity? Are public health mandates a violation of our constitutional rights? Are public health leaders manipulating or omitting data? Can we trust the FDA and CDC?
Using over 250 citations, Travel Nurse addresses these questions and more from the perspectives of a Covid ICU nurse and her husband, who tried to wade through the seas of censorship and misinformation to make the best decisions for their family during a global pandemic.
