If you’re like most entrepreneurs you probably know you need a website. But if you’re like the estimated 50 to 60 % of business owners who don’t have a site you may be wondering if it’s possible to build one yourself using one of the many site builder tools on the market.

Should you do it yourself? Should you use one of the many site builder tools?

In this episode Sylvia Buchanan of SylviasIT dot com is going to talk about her experience building her own site using some of the most popular DIY tools on the market. She’s going to tell you exactly what she discovered and what it was like to work with these tools.

I want to be clear that the interview is full of Sylvia sharing her opinions and her experiences.

Let me tell you about her.

Sylvia is the founder and chief tech knowledgist of Sylvias IT a tech training company that has positioned itself in the rapidly expanding field of cloud-based technology. Sylivia has been teaching on a variety of topics since the early 2000s.

She holds a master’s of education degree in digital technology, a bachelor of fine art degree in Visual arts and a graphic design diploma.

Something fun about Sylvia…in addition to her degrees and certificates she’s also an ESL instructor.

So listen in as Sylvia explains:

  • What website builders are and how they work
  • The pros and cons of using a DIY platform
  • The importance of support when using a builder platform
  • Special concerns for DIY web builder buyers outside of the united states including privacy and security considerations
  • What to ask yourself and what to think about before deciding to build your site
  • Mistakes Sylvia made when building her website and what you can learn from them

Two things to mention. There’s a metallic sound that shows up at about 8 or 10 minutes into the audio. It doesn’t last long and I tried to get rid of it but couldn’t. I’m sorry but I’ve been having some audio problems I hope to fix soon but I didn’t want to miss releasing an episode. I hope you understand.

OK the second thing. Be sure to stick around to the end of this episode. I’ll share my two cents on the DIY thing and will give you your cocktail exercise and action step for this episode.
