6:00

for Blood of Olympus. That's not necessarily a knock on

6:02

Blood of Olympus, but like House of Hades is just

6:05

really that good. And yeah, if

6:07

you think you're having a good time halfway through

6:09

Lost Hero, you're in for a fun ride. That

6:12

is the general impression that I have gotten. And I

6:14

am having a very fun time in the Lost Hero,

6:17

so I look forward to what's ahead. And yeah, I think what's

6:19

fun about having the little difference

6:21

in the characters we're following

6:23

and the narration style is that it makes

6:26

it feel still part of the

6:28

same universe, but not just like, oh, they're just trying

6:30

to do more Percy. Like, it feels different

6:32

enough where it's got its own distinct kind

6:34

of memory and its own place in the universe,

6:37

but it's still a lot of the same characters, a lot of

6:39

the same story. And I'm sure once they

6:41

find Percy, I'm sure he'll get fully in

6:43

the mix, and then it'll be all sorts

6:46

of fun. But for now, we are here

6:48

to discuss chapters 19 and 20 of the

6:50

Lost Hero. Where we last left our heroes,

6:52

they were going into the big fancy room

6:55

to talk with King Barreus. And

6:57

we are now switching to Jason's perspective, we've got chapter

6:59

19, which is called Jason. But of course,

7:01

as we do here on the New Olympian, we will rename this chapter by the end so

7:05

you can start getting the gears turning of

7:07

if you gave it a quirky PJO-esque title,

7:09

what would it be? Which

7:11

will be quick, because chapter 19 was quite short, and

7:13

then chapter 20 is a little beefier. This

7:15

chapter, like every chapter in the Lost Hero, starts

7:18

with a banger of an opener. It says, quote,

7:20

Jason didn't want to leave Leo, but

7:22

he was starting to think that hanging with Cal the hockey player

7:24

was the least dangerous option in this place.

7:27

And the banger here is that Jason's a

7:29

good friend. I love this. I love that

7:32

he is considerate. This is one of my

7:34

favorite things about Percy. So for Jason to

7:36

be similar and have thoughts and

7:38

empathy for his friends, I absolutely love it.

7:40

It makes me so happy. Yeah, Jason's got

7:42

a natural good guy about him, which is

7:45

so funny, because it's like, it

7:47

has to be natural because of where he's

7:49

at in his life at this point. Like,

7:51

he doesn't know who he is. So anything

7:53

he acts on instinctually is like, well, these

7:55

are just the good qualities that he's born

7:57

with, which makes him an easy

7:59

to root on. for hero, but also consequently, as I'm

8:01

sure many of your listeners have pointed out to you,

8:03

makes him a little bit bland at the same time

8:06

too. I'm glad he's a good person. I'm glad he's

8:08

looking out for his friends, but we like our heroes

8:10

to have a little bit of an edge. And

8:12

I think Jason is still finding that

8:14

for himself. Yeah, I'm trying to withhold

8:17

any sort of judgment about him being

8:19

anything more than just kind of like

8:21

your cookie cutter hero, because he has

8:23

no idea about his history. He doesn't

8:25

know what's going on. So I'm going

8:27

to give him the grace to

8:30

where he

8:33

can show a little more personality

8:35

once he figures out what's going on. But I

8:37

do like that at the very least, we have

8:39

this core of a good standup dude, and

8:41

I'll take that for sure. So

8:43

what we have here is Leo staying

8:45

behind and Jason and Piper going through.

8:47

So they make their way up the

8:49

icy stairs with Zethi's behind them, holding

8:51

them at sword point and the ice

8:53

princess leading them, occasionally turning to Jason

8:55

and smiling, but not in a

8:58

way of happiness or compassion. It feels more in a

9:00

way of intrigue. Jason describes it as

9:02

if she is excited to experiment on him like

9:04

he's in a science lab or something. Yeah, the

9:06

whole relationship with Jason and Keown is I don't

9:09

know exactly how to describe it, because I don't

9:11

know if like she's hitting on him or like

9:13

what she wants from him. But it's very clear

9:15

that she sees someone who's like supposed to be

9:17

a great hero, but is so vulnerable because he

9:20

doesn't know who he is. And he's so new

9:22

to this world that she's like looking to kind

9:24

of impose her power a little bit because, you

9:26

know, she's the goddess of snow. Like she's not

9:29

any slouch, but also recognizes when there's an opportunity

9:31

to impart her will. And I

9:33

think she's doing that with Jason right now.

9:35

Yeah, I can see it. Now what Jason

9:37

thinks about these lovely chaperones they have is

9:39

quote, if these were braces kids, Jason

9:42

wasn't sure he wanted to meet daddy, which

9:44

is very fun. He fears that

9:46

he has led his friends into a death

9:48

trap and he ends up grabbing Piper's hand

9:50

for comfort without even thinking about it, which

9:53

is a little bit spicy. We know they've

9:55

got an interesting situation going on. Piper

9:57

raises her eyebrows but doesn't let go. which

10:00

has huge, I'm not going to argue with the results

10:02

energy. And I love this from Piper. It's

10:04

very relatable. And I also love, too, that

10:06

when Keown gives that look back at first,

10:09

you're like, oh, she's jealous because she likes

10:11

Jason. But then it comes with the, no,

10:13

you're creating warmth right now. And that's not

10:15

OK in this, like, ice kingdom we have

10:18

going on. I thought that was really, really

10:20

smart writing. Yeah, it's very fun to have

10:22

the figurative warmth become literal warmth and thus

10:25

a concern for Ice Town. That's exactly what

10:27

she says. And she warns you

10:29

definitely don't want to be showing warmth when

10:31

the best chance of getting out of here

10:33

alive is me, the ice princess. So

10:36

as they walk, Jason thinks back to the

10:38

photo of Thalia that he had been staring

10:40

at in the Zeus cabin and then on

10:42

Festus. And it eats him up that he

10:44

has a sister out there somewhere who may

10:46

have answers about his past, but he's unable

10:48

to talk with her. And he

10:50

notes that she looks nothing like

10:53

him. Dark hair, a Mediterranean complexion,

10:55

and sharper facial features like a

10:57

hawk. And I guess Jason's are

10:59

more like an eagle because he's an

11:01

American. My

11:04

recurring video is that he is just apple pies,

11:06

4 to F-150s, blue

11:08

jeans. It's

11:11

an interesting thing. I like Rick's

11:13

way of describing people. I

11:16

also don't know that I know exactly what it

11:18

means for someone to have hawk-like features in a

11:20

Mediterranean complexion. I'm like, OK, I guess like olive

11:23

skin and a pointy nose, question mark?

11:25

Because I glanced past that so quickly,

11:27

but hearing you describe it, I don't

11:29

really know what a human hawk looks like.

11:31

I honestly don't really know what different predatory

11:33

birds look like. You said hawk and I'm

11:36

picturing in my head, I'm still

11:38

seeing an eagle beak when I think of a hawk.

11:41

And so then I can only think of the falcons,

11:43

not the falcons. The falcons are a different type of

11:45

bird. The Atlanta Hawks. And the Atlanta

11:47

Hawks logo is kind of just like a red

11:50

eagle. I was about to say

11:52

the only context I have for what various

11:54

birds of prey look like is how accurate

11:56

are their sports logos. Because I know the

11:58

sports logos, but I don't know how. accurate

12:00

they are, and that's my only thing to go

12:02

off of. Yeah, the Eagles

12:04

and Hawks basketball have a very

12:07

similar beak. Oh, well, yeah.

12:09

We'll do a case study of all the birds and how there

12:11

should be a team called the pigeons. But

12:13

even still, Thalia does look

12:16

familiar to Jason. And he

12:18

feels confident that she is his sister,

12:20

but he was surprised to see how

12:22

shocked Annabeth was at this news. It's

12:25

as if Thalia never mentioned him.

12:27

So now I'm wondering. We do

12:29

know that Hera has messed with

12:31

Jason's memories. I wonder if Hera

12:33

has also messed with Thalia's memories

12:35

so that Thalia doesn't remember Jason

12:38

either that, or maybe it's a really sore

12:40

subject, whatever happened, because Jason's her younger brother.

12:42

I don't know how they got separated if

12:44

they did. So there's a lot of different

12:46

things. But I wonder if Hera messed with

12:48

her too, since she would also be a

12:50

child of Zeus. So maybe Hera has that

12:52

complicated relationship with Thalia as well. I don't

12:54

know. And we've got to keep your spoiler

12:56

trap door intact so we will move forward.

12:58

But no matter what happens, I do love

13:01

Rick's usage of memory stuff,

13:03

I don't know, is just a great book

13:05

trope that I'm fully in favor of. Whatever

13:09

happens, I love, yeah, he's Thalia's

13:11

brother. It's like, cool. Sure,

13:13

I don't care how ridiculous you have to

13:15

find the workaround to be, because at the

13:17

end of the day, this guy has a

13:19

coin that turns into a sword. So anything

13:21

is on the table. Who cares? Who cares?

13:24

Yeah, I don't want to say revisionist

13:26

history, because I think Rick is really

13:28

good about writing new elements that honor

13:30

the canon of what came before it.

13:32

But yeah, it's Greek mythology at the

13:34

end of the day. So there are

13:37

a lot of easy narrative loopholes you

13:39

can do to weave things in. But I

13:41

will definitely say, like I said, because my

13:43

first time reading these books was immediately after

13:46

reading the first five Percy books, I cannot

13:48

recall a single moment that stuck out as

13:50

like, oh, well, that clearly was retconned or

13:52

that was changed around. It all feels like

13:55

it flows like the hero's books were

13:57

almost in mind when he was writing the

13:59

original. I have not found that to be

14:01

a thing yet. I will see. I

14:04

am impressed because it does all feel very intentional. And

14:06

I believe, I think it was in the interview I

14:08

did with Stephanie Lorry, Rick's editor, that

14:10

Rick doesn't necessarily keep like a big bible of all

14:12

the stuff in the universe. I

14:16

think he just kind of either remembers it or honestly probably

14:18

uses like the fan wiki. So that's impressive if he is

14:21

able to kind of pull that off without making any sort

14:23

of huge wreck on. But

14:25

yeah, so far nothing has felt weirdly forced.

14:27

And we don't get a thing that bugs

14:29

me where it's like, oh, this person actually

14:32

lied to you. We haven't

14:34

gotten anything that feels really cheap. And

14:37

yeah, if you're going to use the Greek mythology loophole,

14:39

go for it. It's a Greek mythology book. Like, it's

14:41

fine. We can make things work. There's literal magic. So

14:43

we can have memories be deleted. Sure. Jason

14:47

resents Hera for taking his memories and

14:49

then forcing him to save her just to get them back. He

14:52

wants to just let her rot out of spite. But

14:55

he knows that he can't do it, sure, because

14:57

of the world and stuff. But also, he's really curious

14:59

about his memories and he wants to know what's going

15:01

on. So he's intrigued enough to

15:03

save her. And I think what's cool too

15:05

about how they played Jason like getting in

15:07

his mind is like, well, we, the reader,

15:09

are also thinking that. Because Jason

15:11

has secrets within his mind that he can't

15:13

unlock that tell us so much more about

15:15

this world and also like changes

15:17

the way that we look at this

15:19

world with like what will get revealed just naturally

15:21

because what will get revealed is stuff that happened

15:23

in the past. So I like the idea of

15:26

like, there's definitely a narrative technique. They

15:28

do this in movies all the time where like

15:30

we as the audience know the same amount as

15:32

the main character. It's not a situation where we

15:34

know that the ghost is in the closet and

15:36

the main character is going to the closet unaware.

15:38

Like we are experiencing the story in real time

15:41

with Jason. And I think that makes for something

15:43

very unique. Yeah. And it's also

15:45

fun because with that, we

15:47

get a little bit of a rhythm in these

15:49

chapters where you'll have bits of dialogue or bits

15:51

of action and then usually a chunk of, well,

15:53

whoever the narrator in this chapter was had a

15:55

bit of a think and usually it kind of

15:57

covers any of those things that you're wondering. and

18:00

the heroes books just like embracing some

18:02

of those qualities. And I can't specifically recall

18:04

if they are like beauty qualities and like

18:06

makeup stuff like that, but I don't think,

18:09

in terms of like the tomboyish female

18:11

characters like in the entire Percy world,

18:14

she is definitely like, if Talia is

18:16

the most like anti-girly girl and like

18:18

Annabeth is somewhere in between, I wouldn't

18:20

even put Piper in that conversation. So

18:23

I can't say she's fully committed to

18:25

like the girly girl side. I

18:27

would say she's a very polar opposite

18:29

from a Talia or an Annabeth. Yeah.

18:32

And she's definitely embracing the Aphrodite powers

18:34

for sure as we will see in

18:37

these chapters. Charm speak is the greatest ability

18:39

in Percy Jackson. I'm not like that, I

18:41

will defend that till the cows come home

18:43

or whatever the saying is. Like I think

18:45

it is the coolest thing to just be

18:47

able to like, cause I have

18:49

friends who are like in sales who use

18:51

charm speak without even knowing it. And I'm like, I just

18:53

think it's like the coolest technique to just like, you know,

18:55

not- Why are we going to this place for pizza? I

18:58

wanted to go to De Lorenzo's. Yeah, but you really

19:00

convinced me that this two star joint is going to

19:02

be the best experience of my life. And I don't

19:04

know how you did that, but like, teach me your

19:06

ways. It's the coolest thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, I

19:08

think it's good. And I think this is going to

19:11

come up a lot just in the notes that I

19:13

took, but in the D&D that I've been playing with

19:15

the streaming that I do 20 to

19:17

midnight, I play a bard who's very good at

19:19

talking his way to situations and that's very helpful.

19:21

And now I've been playing Baldur's Gate three, which

19:23

is basically Dungeons and Dragons a game. And my

19:25

character is good at speaking, but not

19:28

as much. I'm playing a rogue this time. And every

19:30

time I can't talk my way out of a fight,

19:32

I'm thinking, man, I wish I could just talk my

19:34

way out of a fight. Like sure, having water

19:36

powers and a cool sword that

19:38

begins as an inanimate object is awesome, but you

19:40

know what the best way to win a fight

19:42

is? Not ever let it begin. So

19:45

charm speaking, go a long way. So

19:47

anyway, Percy Jackson. Jason is more convinced

19:49

that he doesn't know Piper and

19:52

that their relationship was all of the mist, but

19:54

now he's really wishing that it was real because

19:56

he is enjoying being around Piper. I think this

19:58

relationship... is super fascinating. I cannot wait to see

20:01

where it goes. It is very interesting. I don't

20:03

know why this light bulb just went off in

20:05

my head when you said Piper this time, but

20:07

I'm realizing now, the last time I read Heroes,

20:10

like I said, was COVID. It was like March

20:12

of 2020, maybe more May of 2020. In

20:15

December of 2020, my family got

20:17

a dog and my dog's name is Piper.

20:19

So this is my first time reading or

20:21

hearing the name Piper spoken in a Percy

20:23

Jackson context where I'm now also thinking of

20:25

my dog, because like, whenever the first time

20:28

Piper wasn't in our life, it's

20:30

funny when you just said it there, I was like, oh, wait,

20:32

why am I thinking of my dog right now? Oh, that's right.

20:34

My dog's name is Piper. Amazing,

20:36

amazing. Jason stops himself from

20:39

thinking this though, because it's not fair to

20:41

Piper, since he has no idea what family

20:43

or relationships he has waiting back home. And

20:45

him having an existing significant other would be

20:47

wild and I'd be so here for it.

20:49

Like, what if he's already dating someone? What

20:52

if he's dating a dude? Like, what if

20:54

he's Gaysan? We're like, what if it's just

20:56

like, oh, hey, by the way, you

20:59

don't remember so much of you. Like

21:02

anything's in play. It would be ridiculous if

21:04

it just, you know, he actually left a

21:07

girl back home or whatever. Oh man, there's

21:09

so many opportunities. I'm so stoked to see

21:11

what happens. Yep, zip

21:13

to the lips. You

21:16

wonder. I don't even wanna like anything you say

21:18

about future things, I don't want to say anything

21:20

because you might take it in a way that

21:22

is not how I meant for you to take

21:24

it, or I might try to deceive you and

21:26

then you end up like, I don't know, so

21:28

yes. It's smart, it's smart.

21:31

It is very smart and I don't envy the guests

21:33

who have to be interesting as guests, but also not

21:35

destroy my job. So thank you, thank you, thank you.

21:38

Jason wonders about what will happen after the

21:40

quest if they even survive, but he does

21:42

feel like he is not

21:44

destined for camp Half-Blood, which I

21:47

do know of the other camp that

21:49

is being referenced or at least the

21:52

Jupiter side of things is being brought in

21:54

more and more. So that's not news to

21:56

me. They reach the end of

21:58

the hallway and face a large wall. There

26:00

will be other stuff that I do. If you

26:02

want to see what's being covered in all of

26:04

these different things, I have shared an infographic on

26:06

the TNO Instagram account, which is at newest Olympian.

26:08

I'll probably tweet it out if I haven't already.

26:11

And also, speaking of sharing images in the Patreon,

26:13

I did give merch previews of our upcoming merch

26:15

items. They are posted. And the work in progress

26:17

images are posted on the Patreon. If you join

26:19

any of the TNO tiers, you would have access

26:21

to that as well. It's something I do from

26:23

time to time. So if you want to be

26:25

in the know, you can join the Patreon. But

26:28

speaking of the Patreon, I want to give a

26:30

shout out to the folks who joined the Patreon

26:32

team at the newest olympian.com/Patreon most recently. So shout

26:34

out to our newest super god to your patron,

26:36

Barbara Rosa. And shout out to our newest demo

26:38

god to your patrons, Hyacinth Porter, Breakfast in Beauclair,

26:40

and Dylan Pelosi. Dylan, I'm sorry that I made

26:43

fun of your name in one of the earlier

26:45

episodes. I'm sorry to all the Dylan's out there.

26:47

But especially you, Dylan Pelosi, because you're supporting me

26:49

on Patreon. Thank you all so much for your

26:51

support. May Aphrodite bless you that if you are

26:53

ever trying to find just the perfect accessory that

26:55

will complete your outfit, that you are able to

26:57

find it quickly without having to rummage through various

27:00

drawers and stuff in your closet. Now, if you're

27:02

caught up on the newest Olympian and you're looking

27:04

for a new podcast to listen to, you are

27:06

in luck because I make a whole bunch of

27:08

podcasts. I think they're very good and very biased.

27:10

But I think you would like them as well.

27:12

If you're like me, there's another show that I

27:15

make and I host. And there's a bunch of

27:17

fun guests on it. And it supports charity. It's

27:19

called Meddling Adults. It is a podcast game show

27:21

for charity where I host, guest compete, to solve

27:23

children's mysteries from things like Scooby-Doo, Encyclopedia Brown, Nancy

27:25

Drew, Cam Jansen, Shelby Wu, a bunch of fun

27:27

mystery series have been covered. I recap

27:29

the mysteries. The guests try to figure out who

27:31

did it and whoever gets the most right or

27:33

who gets a whole bunch of comedic

27:36

bonus points. Whoever has the highest score at the

27:38

end earns money for a charity of their choosing.

27:40

I've got four full seasons up. I'm in the

27:42

production right now of season five. And you can

27:44

listen to every single episode at meddlingadults.com or by

27:46

searching for Meddling Adults wherever you get your podcasts.

27:48

Now, unless you are listening on Patreon where you

27:50

get access to ad-free episodes, you will now hear

27:52

words from a few sponsors to make it feasible

27:54

for me to be a full-time podcaster. Some of

27:56

those ads will be read by me. For example,

27:58

one would be from our new sponsor, Field of

28:00

Girls. Greens, who is a really cool fruit vegetable

28:02

drink thing. But some of the ads

28:04

won't be read by me. Those are inserted locally.

28:06

So if you live in Bangladesh, don't be surprised

28:08

if you hear an ad in Bengali. But once

28:11

those ads are complete, we'll get back to this

28:13

episode of The New Salimbian. This episode of The

28:15

New Salimbian is brought to you by Field of

28:17

Greens. Now we've got our fun trio here out

28:19

on a quest. They've got their bags packed with

28:21

a whole bunch of stuff, nectar, ambrosia, et cetera.

28:24

Those things can help make sure that our demigods

28:26

are feeling good and feeling fresh, but they are

28:28

demigods and you are immortal. You can't have nectar

28:30

and ambrosia. Well, could you have to try to

28:32

feel good and fresh and healthy? You could have

28:34

a field of greens. Field of greens is unlike

28:36

any fruit and vegetable or green product. It's not

28:38

watered down extracts. It is made from organic super

28:40

foods. It is whole fruits and vegetables and they

28:42

are dried up into a powder that you can

28:44

very easily scoop into a glass of water and

28:46

just stir and then boom, you're good to go.

28:48

You can use a shaker bottle. I honestly, when

28:50

I have it, I just take a scoop of

28:52

it into a pint glass of water and I

28:54

take either a spoon or a chopstick and I

28:56

stir it around and then I'm good to go.

28:58

I've got a bunch of different flavors from

29:00

field of greens. I've had their traditional flavor

29:02

and I've had their wild berry flavor. Both

29:05

are great. The wild berry one, little fruity,

29:07

honestly reminds me of sports drinks that I

29:09

used to drink as a kid and their

29:11

standard flavor, really solid too. Whether I'm having

29:13

it alone, whether I put a scoop of

29:15

it into my smoothie, I enjoy it. Each

29:17

fruit and vegetable in field of greens was

29:20

selected by doctors to support vital bodily functions

29:22

like heart, liver, kidneys, metabolism and immune system

29:24

functions. I did a phone call with someone

29:26

from that nutrition team and it was so

29:28

insightful. They've got information on their website. If you

29:30

want to learn more, but only field of greens is

29:33

backed by a better health promise. At your next checkup,

29:35

your doctor will notice your improved health or your money

29:37

back. So you don't want to look back and say,

29:39

gosh, I should have paid attention to nutrition when I

29:41

was younger, like Jason, Leo and Piper when they're on

29:43

this quest, unless you're a kid listening, then I guess

29:45

they'd be older than you. Field of greens is a

29:47

key to better health today when it matters most. So

29:50

let's get you started with 15% off

29:52

29:54

use promo code Olympian. That's promo

29:56

29:58

that out and drink. me

32:00

when these like z-list

32:02

Greek mythology characters talk a big game and we

32:04

know already that they're not going to be able

32:06

to back it up, but it's easier when it's

32:09

like, oh, no, someone else did the talking for

32:11

you. And when you inevitably don't back it up,

32:13

I don't really blame you. I blame the people

32:15

around you. And also it's cool because it shows

32:17

like, well, you clearly do have some pull around

32:20

here because you're in charge of certain people. So

32:22

that does help immerse me a little

32:24

bit more. Right. If someone is talking on your

32:26

behalf, that also does give you a little bit

32:28

of power of, oh, okay, you're so important that

32:31

you don't even want to explain who you are.

32:33

Like that's a pretty low lift thing to do.

32:35

So you must be quite important if someone else

32:37

is going to do your talking for you. Zethi's

32:41

calling Jason Jason Jr. And Jason saying, please

32:43

don't call me that hurries them along because

32:45

Bereas is not patient and Piper is losing

32:47

her magic hairdo. He does offer to lend

32:49

her something from his quote wide assortment of

32:51

hair products. And as a hair guy and

32:54

your hair guy as well, that's high praise.

32:56

I wouldn't just necessarily offer my best stuff

32:58

to someone. Maybe I've got some other hair products

33:00

that are either it's a lower stakes thing or

33:03

if I just need to keep my hair out

33:05

of my face and I don't want to use

33:07

up the good stuff. Yeah. But for him to

33:09

just open the assortment, that's a pretty nice gesture.

33:11

Yeah. In this economy too, geez, I'm paying like

33:13

25 bucks for paste these days. Yeah. Gosh, now

33:15

thankfully, and they don't sponsor me. I've asked them

33:17

about sponsoring me, but I use a layer eight

33:19

cement clay and it lasts me a very long

33:21

time. It lasts me a very, like I don't

33:23

have to buy containers quite often. Usually the only

33:25

times I would have to buy containers is when

33:27

TSA PreCheck would say, no, thank you. You got

33:29

to throw it out. And then I bought the

33:31

travel. I finally committed to buying the travel size

33:33

ones. I cannot take that risk anymore because there

33:35

have been times where it's like the specific ingredients

33:37

in it will allow it to get through TSA.

33:40

There's other times just like I can't risk it

33:42

anymore because I've had too many like 25,

33:44

$30 hair products getting taken from me when I've used

33:46

them like twice. Yes. It's always when you use it

33:48

twice. It's never when it's like almost empty. It was

33:51

always when it's a fresh new one. It happened to

33:53

me when I was on tour doing the Europe tour

33:55

for the new Olympian. I don't remember

33:57

what country it was in. Maybe leaving Amsterdam.

34:00

entering Norway, something like that, somewhere

34:02

at TSA, they were like, no,

34:04

this is too big. Because I think the tube is

34:07

125 grams, and

34:09

100 grams is the max. And

34:11

they were like, no dice. I think I even ripped

34:13

off the label because the label said 125 grams. And

34:16

I ripped off the label, and I was like, oh,

34:18

I'll just tell them it's 100 gram label. And that

34:20

didn't even work. So then at that point, I had

34:23

to find a place in Finland that would sell it.

34:25

And thankfully, there was a barbershop where I actually ended

34:27

up getting my haircut that did sell the stuff. So

34:30

I got the stuff. But then from then on, I

34:32

had to commit to, or I think that's, I think

34:34

it got stopped at one country. Then I bought it

34:36

in Finland, ripped off the label. I was like, this

34:38

won't happen again. And then I think at the last

34:40

leg, it got stopped again. So then I

34:42

was like, that's it. I'm buying the little travel one.

34:44

I know it's not as good price-wise of the cents

34:47

per ounce or whatever. But I keep throwing

34:49

away so much unused

34:51

product that surely it'll be worth the slight price

34:53

hike for the tiny old jar. And now I

34:56

have the tiny jar for travel purposes. And next

34:58

time you're in Canada, just stop by Barreas's place.

35:00

Right? I feel like I would go to the

35:02

Barreas barbershop. That'd be good. I mean,

35:04

I had to find a new barbershop. I tweeted this out the

35:06

other day. My normal barber that I go to in New York,

35:09

I tried to make an appointment with him at the barbershop I

35:11

go to. And he wasn't there. So I texted him. I was

35:13

like, hey, are you not working at this place anymore? And he

35:15

goes, no, they canned me for having too much sauce. And

35:18

that could mean anything. That could mean

35:20

anything. He could have shown up to

35:22

work drunk. He could have gotten to

35:25

an argument with the owner. He could

35:27

have done something actually bad. I have

35:29

no idea. That told me nothing, absolutely

35:31

nothing. That is the greatest

35:33

I got laid off excuse I've ever heard.

35:36

They canned me because I have too

35:38

much sauce. That is one of the

35:40

things I'm dreading when I moved to New York. I am

35:42

like married to my barber. He's been my guy for five

35:44

years. I don't want to have to find a new person.

35:46

It's going to be tough. Yeah, look, I am now in

35:48

search of other places. So I can give you some recommendations.

35:51

And maybe if this guy gets into a

35:53

new spot where his sauce can flow free,

35:55

we can uncan the sauce. We'll

35:58

see if that's a good spot. going

40:00

to help. You need the diversity to bring

40:02

another Baldur's Gate 3 reference into the mix.

40:04

Like, do you really need Lizella and Karlaq

40:06

in the party? No. Like, do you need

40:08

two people that are good with hitting people

40:10

with swords? No. You need a wordsmith in

40:12

there. So it's showing that we can have

40:14

all seven, whoever the seven end up being,

40:16

and they can have very different skill sets.

40:18

Anabeth can be the planner. Percy, I'm assuming,

40:20

is one of the seven. He can do

40:22

water stuff. Jason can do sky stuff. Piper

40:24

can talk out of situations. Grover can play

40:26

read pipes. Like, we've got all the different

40:28

things that people can do. Nico can brood

40:31

in the corner. Everyone's got their different skill

40:33

sets, and it's fun to see not

40:35

just fighting being a cool thing. And I

40:38

love it. Zethi's laughs at Keoni's translation services

40:40

no longer being needed. She shoots him an

40:42

icy look. Bareas sizes up Jason, so he

40:44

bows, introduces himself. Thanks, Bareas, for not killing

40:47

them, and then asks why a Greek god

40:49

speaks French, which I thought was a good

40:51

question. Maybe it's not the most important question,

40:53

but it is a good question nonetheless. Sometimes

40:56

you just want to ask the more timely

40:58

thing instead of the most important thing. It's

41:00

fresh on the brain. You got to just

41:02

say, okay, I know there's a bigger fish

41:05

to fry, but why are you speaking this

41:07

language? But

41:10

Piper and King Bereas talk a little bit back

41:12

and forth, but it's all not

41:14

off screen, but the narrator just says

41:16

they talked back and forth. So I

41:18

don't think Rick speaks French, so it's

41:20

just kind of fast forwarding through there.

41:23

Piper released Jason that King Bereas speaks the

41:25

language of his host country as all gods

41:27

do. And once she said that, I was

41:29

like, oh, right. And then they make the

41:31

exact point. The Greek gods speak English. They're

41:33

not out here speaking Greek at Camp Half-Blood.

41:35

So yeah, that totally makes sense. And that

41:38

is just my English-centric,

41:40

America-centric brain being like

41:42

very much in line with America Jason of

41:45

like, well, yeah, everyone speaks English by default

41:47

and not realizing, no, it's weird that they

41:49

spoke English. So it's less weird

41:51

that he speaks French. It totally makes sense.

41:54

Yeah. Well, it's also too, like the books

41:56

are written in English. So naturally when characters

41:58

have English dialogue after reading when

50:00

you plant a seed that can be sprouted,

50:02

but also there's no harm done if we

50:04

leave it untouched. And I completely forgot about

50:06

that till you just brought it up. Again,

50:08

this makes it so much more interconnected. There

50:10

you go. That's all I wrote. Look, I

50:12

have the luxury of having not taken too

50:14

much time in between the books. So some

50:16

things are more fresh, but also on the

50:18

flip side, I have only read each book

50:21

exactly one time. So I do forget details.

50:23

Piper says the gods had no choice than

50:26

asks why demigods would take the fall for

50:28

this. Berea says that Aeolus cannot take out

50:30

his anger on his bosses, the

50:32

gods. So he has decided instead to get

50:34

even with demigods who assisted them in their

50:36

war. Thus, he issued an edict that

50:38

the four wind gods are not to help demigods

50:40

who seek assistance, but instead kill them. Jason

50:43

asks if they will first hear about their

50:45

quest. Berea says that he will allow it

50:47

because Aeolus gave him the heads up that

50:49

a son of Zeus may ask for assistance

50:51

and he should hear him out because he

50:54

might make things interesting for them. Interesting, never

50:56

a good word by someone who has the

50:58

potential of killing you and the threat of

51:00

it as well. Interesting is not a word

51:02

you wanna hear. Interesting is just a bad

51:04

word. Like as someone who writes a lot

51:06

of critical reviews, interesting and fun are like

51:08

the two worst words to use. It sounds

51:11

like you're lying, like you actually did not

51:13

like the thing you watched and you're just

51:15

trying to give it some sort of positivity,

51:17

or you're just not good at thinking of

51:19

good, rich words. Interesting is bad news no

51:21

matter how you draw it up. I appreciate

51:23

that and I do feel slightly called out,

51:25

but I will admit to it that when

51:27

I'm in a conversation and someone says

51:30

something to me and I don't wanna hurt their feelings and

51:32

I don't really know what to say, interesting

51:34

is my go-to. Oh yeah, I do that all

51:36

the time. There's no shade,

51:38

but also we know what we're doing when

51:40

we use the word interesting. Yeah, no, I

51:43

agree though. You gotta up the synonym game.

51:45

Get out the thesaurus, find something fun. But

51:48

anyway, Percy Jackson, Berea clarifies that he is

51:50

only promising to listen and still may kill

51:52

him, which is a very funny king move

51:55

for him to make. Jason sarcastically thanks him

51:57

and Bereas not getting the this is sarcasm

51:59

says, we will hold your... thanks because sometimes

52:01

quote, make our lives interesting means using

52:04

the demigods for their entertainment. And then

52:06

he gestures to the frozen statues. Jason

52:08

is floored at this realization and asks

52:11

they're alive? And Bureus is unsure of

52:13

their life status because they are frozen

52:15

until they are given orders. And I

52:17

guess if they melted, they would die.

52:19

And that would be very messy. So

52:22

just him being very nonchalant

52:24

about imprisoning people. What does it

52:26

mean? Just taking an interest in

52:28

whether or not the

52:30

big questions that Black Mirror wonders with certain things

52:33

like, oh, is this sentient? Does that count as

52:35

life? He's just like, oh, yeah, I'm a king,

52:37

so I don't really care about other people. This

52:39

is the kind of king stuff that you mentioning

52:41

earlier. I think you're totally right. You get the

52:44

king vibes. He's still kind of bad, but not

52:46

egregiously so in an interesting way. But

52:48

an actually interesting way, not a bad. Yes,

52:51

yes. Good callback. In

52:54

an intriguing way. For anyone

52:56

who's listening, I'm sure one of your

52:58

listeners has either watched or read Three

53:00

Body Problem. I'm currently reading it. And

53:02

so I don't know if they adapt

53:04

this part of the book into the

53:06

show. I don't want to know

53:08

because, again, I'm reading it first and then

53:10

I'll watch the show. But in Three Body

53:12

Problem, there's a whole bit where they're playing

53:14

this VR game and it's set hundreds of

53:16

years ago. And because the

53:18

climate is so hot, they are

53:20

able to dehydrate people's bodies and

53:23

make them into flat

53:25

paper-like things and roll them up so

53:27

that when the climate then changes to

53:29

be livable, they can rehydrate them and

53:31

then they become human again. So when

53:33

I saw this icicle thing, I was

53:36

like, well, they're just frozen because of

53:38

the current climate. And when the climate

53:40

gets better for them, they'll be OK

53:42

to live. And something, something, Three Body

53:45

Problem. You said it was hundreds of

53:47

years ago, not the future? Yes, I

53:49

think so. Yeah, because they can't tell

53:51

time. They use a scale to determine

53:53

the sun patterns. But also, it takes

53:56

place not on Earth, the

53:58

VR game. OK. I don't know the any

54:00

of the answers. I have way more questions.

54:02

Oh, very interesting. I was just thinking as

54:04

it gets unreasonably hot, it's 95 degrees

54:08

in mid to late June in New York. I

54:12

just feel like the heat is in it for the

54:14

future. And I look forward to when people listen to

54:16

this podcast 80 years from now when I am on

54:18

my deathbed. And then people

54:20

are like, oh, it was only 90 degrees. It's 125

54:22

now in June. 90

54:24

was cold, you fool. So

54:27

anyway, first suggestion. Keone puts her fingers

54:29

on Jason's neck, and he feels her

54:31

icy touch. She says that her

54:33

dad gives such lovely presents and then offers to

54:36

let his friends go free if he stays with

54:38

them. So here the truth comes out. She wants

54:40

to keep him as a weird statue pet thing.

54:43

Zethis is jealous, saying that if Keone gets

54:45

one, then he should get the girl. He's

54:47

jealous that she always gets more presents. And

54:49

them just being bickering siblings is very funny.

54:52

And tracks for them being spoiled little brats

54:54

since they are royalty and they

54:56

are basically trust fund babies. Totally

54:59

makes sense. But Barreus tells them to stop

55:01

unless they look spoiled. So they're on the

55:03

same line of thinking that I was out.

55:05

That's a good point. And I also appreciate,

55:07

too, whenever they have interactions that don't feel

55:10

like they're just clearly

55:12

bickering for the sake of, well, we can't

55:14

have the villain be in complete control. So

55:16

let's make sure some of them are not

55:18

on the same page. This feels very natural.

55:20

Yeah, totally, totally. Barreus also

55:23

adds that they haven't heard Jason's story yet,

55:25

so he asks Jason to share it. Jason

55:27

starts to get nervous. Keone strokes his neck.

55:29

Jason's skin then goes electric. This was an

55:32

unplanned thing. And then there's a pop and

55:34

it sends her flying across the room. Zethi's

55:37

laughs, saying he's glad Jason did that, even though

55:39

he must kill him now. Keone gets up furious

55:41

and begins to form a micro blizzard behind her.

55:43

But then Jason tells her to stop, saying they

55:45

won't kill them or keep them, and explains that

55:47

they are on a quest for Hera. And unless

55:50

they want to face her wrath, they will help

55:52

them. And it does work. And again, to make

55:54

another Baldur's Gate 3 reference, because I've been playing

55:56

recently, this is something I wish I could do,

55:58

because sometimes I'll be- be doing the conversation thing,

56:01

and I'll say something. And it's like the provoke

56:03

a fight dialogue line. And I didn't realize I

56:05

was doing that. It's like, oh, sorry, sorry, sorry.

56:07

I didn't mean like, there's a specific thing

56:09

where I just said something. And I was like, well, well, you

56:11

found me. And then you fight. And I'm like, I didn't think

56:13

we were going to fight. I just thought I was talking crap.

56:16

I'm sorry. Then I have to kill

56:18

them. And it's a whole thing. You

56:21

would fare very well in the Percy Jackson world. That

56:23

is clearly, like I can see Percy having that specific

56:25

dialogue. I'm like, well, I didn't mean it like that.

56:27

But now we've got to fight. And you know how

56:29

this thing ends. Yep. Of

56:31

all the things that Percy does, talking

56:33

trash in tense situations is the times

56:35

I feel most seen. And

56:38

I could definitely see it. Play any sport with me

56:40

once you move to New York. Join my softball team

56:42

or play pickup basketball with me or something. You will

56:44

see it come out. I can't control it. It's a

56:46

problem, but also a blessing? Who knows what it is?

56:49

But then, because Jason has revealed this,

56:51

Keone and Zethi's end up stopping. And

56:53

they turn to their father basically

56:56

to see how should we proceed. He

56:58

instructs Jason to continue, noting he's intrigued

57:00

by a son of Zeus that's actually

57:03

favored by Hera. Jason struggles to find

57:05

his voice, but thankfully Piper steps in

57:07

and relays the entire story from chapter

57:09

one to now perfectly. She

57:12

concludes saying they only seek guidance in finding

57:14

the storm spirits in order to learn the

57:16

identity of this mistress for whom they work.

57:19

And Berea says that he knows the spirits, he

57:21

knows where they are, and he knows their prisoner.

57:23

And Jason checks, oh, you mean Coach Hedge? And

57:25

he's very surprised that he's still alive. And

57:27

Berea's confirms, but does say that it

57:29

is a death wish to oppose the

57:31

being who controls the venti. So we've

57:34

got a fight on our hands. We've

57:36

got a foe to face. Jason

57:38

says they have bigger concerns. Those concerns

57:40

being Hera being destroyed and a giant

57:42

rising. And Berea's agrees that those are

57:45

larger stakes. Then he shoots a look

57:47

at Keone. And Jason wonders if this

57:49

was an intentionally angry look, meaning it

57:51

has to be that. And

57:53

King Berea says, many things are

57:55

stirring. And his kids don't even keep him up on

57:57

all the news that they should. I

58:00

did write a minute, so what is this, two great two starring? Is

58:02

this the sequel? And then he literally just says,

58:05

the great starring didn't end with Chronos' defeat. It

58:07

is still going. The final battle has not yet

58:09

taken place, and the one who will wake is

58:11

more terrible than any Titan. So again,

58:14

another good trope of like, you thought you did

58:16

it, but you didn't? I'm here for it. It's

58:18

a sequel book in a YA series? Yeah. Sometimes

58:21

you just have to go, well, you didn't

58:23

actually beat them, and it's fine. And I

58:25

still love how like, Chronos will always be

58:27

like, my like, favorite final boss, like out

58:29

of, probably out of just fiction in general.

58:31

I love the character of Chronos, and also

58:33

because Luke is one of my favorite characters

58:35

ever written, and Chronos and Luke are so

58:38

like, synergetic as characters. But anything

58:40

that goes on in Heroes, there are

58:42

elements that make it feel like, okay,

58:44

it's the sequel series, so it just

58:46

has to be bigger. But I also

58:48

appreciate that the ending of

58:51

the Chronos battle, the Battle of Manhattan breeds

58:53

specific consequences that are followed in Heroes. Like some

58:56

stuff is bigger for the sake of being bigger,

58:58

because it's a sequel book, and it's a team

59:00

up book. And if Percy is just the solo

59:02

series, this is like their Avengers and all that.

59:06

But there are elements that make it

59:08

feel like, okay, well, at least we're

59:10

building off the prior conflict and not

59:12

just like shunning it completely. Yeah, and

59:14

I think it makes sense. And it

59:16

feels more natural to be this situation

59:18

of that big war wasn't everything. It

59:20

was just most things. And it stopped

59:22

one aspect, but not every aspect. That

59:24

feels more natural than you had this

59:26

big war and everything's done. And

59:28

now here's somebody else or

59:30

the Star Wars and somehow Palpatine

59:32

returns. Like it does feel more

59:34

legitimate to say, yeah, you

59:37

did a lot, but you didn't

59:39

do everything. And stuff has been

59:41

burbling and the stuff that's leftover

59:43

is now going to continue that

59:45

burbling. And it also does feel very

59:47

in line with the Greek mythology, even specifically within the

59:49

series. Monsters never truly die. So

59:51

can you ever really relax? I don't think

59:53

so. So there's always going to be that

59:55

threat. So I think it's fine. I think it tracks. I

59:58

like it. beginning. Quote,

1:00:00

the earth has many more horrors to

1:00:02

yield up when monsters are no longer

1:00:04

staying in Tartarus and souls are no

1:00:06

longer confined to Hades. Olympus has good

1:00:08

reason to fear. That is intimidating. He

1:00:10

is making it sound very scary. He's

1:00:13

doing a very effective job of this.

1:00:15

Jason is unsure of what this all means, but

1:00:17

he is sure that he doesn't like how much

1:00:19

Keone is smiling at all of this. Then

1:00:22

Jason asks, so you'll help us? And Berea

1:00:24

says that he didn't promise that. Piper asks,

1:00:26

please, everyone looks to her, but

1:00:29

she still looks confident. Jason notes, so

1:00:31

she's seeming like she's kind of coming

1:00:33

into her own, which is nice. She

1:00:35

then makes an offer. Bereas will tell

1:00:37

them where the storm spirits are and

1:00:39

they will capture the spirits and bring

1:00:41

them to Aeolus. It would make King

1:00:43

Bereas look good to his boss. And

1:00:45

then maybe the demigods can rescue Hedge

1:00:47

and pardon other demigods. So it's a

1:00:49

win-win all around. Seems like a pretty

1:00:51

good offer. I think it works. It

1:00:53

tracks. Yeah. Yeah. Zethys is in favor.

1:00:55

Keone is not in favor, warning that

1:00:58

it might just be charm speak. Bereas

1:01:00

thinks it over. Jason reaches for flip

1:01:02

tide, his coin, sword, spear. That's pretty

1:01:04

good, right? I'm really proud of it.

1:01:06

Is that original? Yeah, I think so.

1:01:08

I've never heard it before, but it's

1:01:10

also so good that I'm like, how

1:01:12

have I never heard it before? I

1:01:15

hope. I hope. I am the person to say

1:01:17

it. If someone else has said it, I would

1:01:19

not be surprised because it does feel too perfect.

1:01:21

But yeah, Jason, I'm just going to Google flip

1:01:23

tide and see if anything shows up because otherwise

1:01:25

I'm going to run to the trademarking office. Flip

1:01:28

tide LLC is digital marketing solutions. And

1:01:31

then flip tide, no, nothing.

1:01:34

I'm going to Google flip tide, Percy

1:01:36

Jackson. I bet it's going to say.

1:01:39

It's just a rip tide flip

1:01:41

tide. Sounds like a shirt to me. Nothing.

1:01:47

Yeah, baby. I've done it. Yep. Okay.

1:01:49

Great. Cool. There was a

1:01:51

Reddit thread about someone saying that they don't like the coin

1:01:53

flip as much as the pin click. That's the closest we

1:01:55

got. So I think, or I

1:01:57

guess not the pin click, the pin uncapping, but

1:01:59

yeah, look. And

1:08:00

by that time, the winter's been dragging

1:08:02

on long enough that people become a

1:08:05

little unhinged. A

1:08:07

carnival also has a delightful

1:08:09

slash scary mascot. He's a

1:08:12

snowman, Bonham Carnival, and

1:08:15

a event called Bandonez

1:08:17

or Snowbeth. It's not

1:08:19

unlike a polar dip event. You sign

1:08:21

up to dance and roll around and

1:08:24

bathe in the snow for either three,

1:08:26

five, or 10 minutes. This tradition only

1:08:28

dates from 1987. I've

1:08:31

never been, but as far as I know, it's

1:08:33

not a contest or anything. It's just for fun.

1:08:36

You're only allowed to wear swimsuit,

1:08:38

shoes, mittens, and socks, and everyone

1:08:41

also wears matching hats. It's

1:08:43

just good, clean Canadian fun. That

1:08:49

was the newest Olympians designated Canadian,

1:08:51

Jenna Buck. And

1:08:55

then, Bereas decides he will help them and

1:08:58

tell them where to go next. And I

1:09:00

couldn't believe it because it's so bad,

1:09:03

but so good. I

1:09:06

don't know how I feel, but the

1:09:08

wind spirits are in Chicago,

1:09:10

the windy city. Rick

1:09:13

has to know it's not because of the wind, right?

1:09:15

Chicago's the windy city because of politics, not because of

1:09:17

literal wind. He knows this, right? Wait,

1:09:20

is that? Did you not know this? No, this is news to me. Chicago's

1:09:23

the windy city because it used to flip-flop

1:09:25

back and forth between Democratic and Republican, and

1:09:28

it was like a swing town in voting. That's

1:09:30

why it's the windy city. It's not because of

1:09:32

literal wind because Illinois is not particularly windy. Wow,

1:09:35

I literally just learned that. I'm

1:09:38

sure a lot of people did, but I'll just

1:09:40

quit Google. OK, now here's something. I thought that's

1:09:42

what it is. Someone does say that it being

1:09:44

on Lake Michigan, because once I said Illinois is

1:09:46

not particularly windy, I was like, but it's on

1:09:48

Lake Michigan. That might not be true. Midwestern

1:09:51

Career College says Chicago's

1:09:53

infamous for stronger blustery winds. Yeah, maybe it

1:09:55

is very cold there. Maybe I'm going to

1:09:58

add an item. It could be a double

1:10:00

meaning, though, because I know Chicago. Chicago is

1:10:02

also called the second city because two reasons.

1:10:04

One, because it's like, well, New York was

1:10:06

always number one. Chicago was number two. But

1:10:08

also because Chicago burned down one year, and

1:10:10

they built on top of it. So it's

1:10:13

the second city because it's built on top.

1:10:15

So maybe it could be another double meaning

1:10:17

situation. Oh, OK. I think that is it

1:10:19

because if you go to

1:10:21

Windy City Nickname, the page on

1:10:23

Wikipedia, there are four main possibilities

1:10:25

for the city's nickname. The weather,

1:10:27

as Chicago is near Lake Michigan,

1:10:29

the rivalry with Cincinnati, the world's

1:10:31

fair and politics. So whether we've

1:10:33

already discussed, Cincinnati rivalry is, let's

1:10:36

see, baseball stuff. Cincinnati

1:10:40

is well known as the meat packing trade. It was

1:10:42

called Porcoppolis. Starting in 1843, starting in the early 1860s,

1:10:45

Chicago surpassed Cincinnati in this trade

1:10:48

and proudly proclaimed the same Porcoppolis

1:10:50

nickname. Why would that

1:10:52

have to be Windy City? Yeah, the

1:10:54

Reds and Cubs, I think, have a

1:10:56

rivalry. Yeah. The 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings

1:10:58

were the pride of all baseball. So

1:11:00

Chicago came up with a rival team

1:11:02

called the White Stockings to defeat them.

1:11:04

Windy City often appeared in the Cincinnati

1:11:06

sporting news. So Cincinnati called

1:11:09

it, so then they wanted to call it

1:11:11

that to copy them? Weird. There's

1:11:13

a myth for the world's fair. It is a

1:11:15

popular myth that the first person to use Windy

1:11:17

City as a term was New York Sun editor

1:11:19

Charles Dana in a New York Sun article complaining

1:11:21

about Chicago's victory in 1890 over New York in

1:11:25

its bid to host the world's fair. The term was in common

1:11:27

use since at least 1886, while

1:11:29

the first known use was from 1876. As

1:11:32

Chicago did not win the bid to host the world's

1:11:34

fair until 1890, Dana cannot possibly have known the source

1:11:36

of the term. So that's just wrong.

1:11:38

So politics, yeah, it's because of flip-flops. Allegedly

1:11:41

believed Chicagoan politicians were nothing but profit. Oh,

1:11:43

no, just kidding. Not flip-flopping. 19th century journalists

1:11:46

frequently referred to Chicago as the Windy City

1:11:48

because they allegedly believed Chicagoan politicians were nothing

1:11:51

but profit-centric. However, it's worth noting

1:11:53

that the rivalry was between Chicago, a growing

1:11:55

metropolis, and other cities such as New York

1:11:57

from where most journalists came. In other words,

1:11:59

The Windy City is not a nickname Chicago

1:12:01

gave itself, but rather something that the city

1:12:03

has embraced over time. Ooh, we love reclaiming

1:12:05

an insult. Mm. Interesting. Look at

1:12:07

all this learning we're doing today on this

1:12:10

Percy Jackson bucket. I perked up because I'm

1:12:12

also reading The Devil and the White City,

1:12:14

which is about. Oh, it's great. You've read

1:12:16

it? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like half Chicago World's

1:12:18

Fair. Half potential murder mystery. Serial killer. Half

1:12:20

architecture stuff. Yes, yes, yes. Yeah, yeah. So

1:12:22

all at the World's Fair. Half murder mystery

1:12:25

serial killer. Half architecture. I will say, and

1:12:28

I've told this to my architect wife, but

1:12:30

when I got about halfway through the book,

1:12:32

I started skipping the architecture chapters. Like when

1:12:34

you're halfway through a murder mystery story, and

1:12:37

I don't even like true crime, but when

1:12:39

you're halfway through a murder mystery kind of

1:12:41

thing, you have to finish it. Like you

1:12:43

can't just like it's like, oh, and then

1:12:45

he has his victims doing this. So

1:12:47

then Frank Lloyd Wright, like I don't give a damn. This

1:12:50

guy's killing people with chloroform and trap

1:12:53

elevators. But yeah,

1:12:55

I don't know how far are you into

1:12:57

it? Only like 50 pages. The reason why

1:12:59

I got so invested in it was because

1:13:01

DiCaprio like finally making the movie. He fought

1:13:03

major studios so that his production company could

1:13:05

get the rights to it. He didn't want

1:13:07

like any he was so obsessed with the

1:13:09

story. And it's going to be another DiCaprio

1:13:11

Scorsese collaboration. And that is like

1:13:13

I know it's such a generic answer, but Wolf

1:13:16

of Wall Street, Departed, Shutter Island, like they when

1:13:18

they come together, they make magic. So I'm very

1:13:20

stoked for the movie adaptation. Yeah, look, they're good

1:13:22

movies. Can't argue. And I also I meant to

1:13:25

read Killers of the Flower Moon before seeing the

1:13:27

movie. And I haven't done either. I missed it

1:13:29

when it was in theaters and I also didn't

1:13:31

read the book. So this is the next

1:13:34

DiCaprio movie where I'm like I want to go in knowing

1:13:36

the book and then see it executed. What's funny is I

1:13:38

audiobooked it years ago because I think this one DiCaprio first

1:13:40

bought the rights. And I was like, oh, I want to

1:13:42

make sure I know this before they make the movie. And

1:13:44

that was I think at least six years

1:13:47

ago. I

1:13:49

think it was like eight years ago. It's

1:13:51

been a long time. Anyway, Percy Jackson, they

1:13:53

know they're going to the Windy City. Jason

1:13:55

checks that Chicago is where they're going to

1:13:57

find the person who controls the winds. And

1:13:59

then asks she's who is trapping. and Berea

1:14:01

says those are two different questions, son of

1:14:03

Jupiter. And Jason does pick up on

1:14:05

son of Jupiter being the call out since before

1:14:07

it was son of Zeus. So very interesting stuff

1:14:10

there that he has switched to the Roman

1:14:12

version. And what

1:14:14

Berea says after is the one who controls the winds

1:14:16

is in Chicago, but she is only a servant. If

1:14:19

they defeat her and they capture the winds,

1:14:21

they should go to Aeolus and he can

1:14:23

say where Hera is. He warns that if

1:14:25

he does meet who has Hera in the

1:14:27

cage, he's not gonna like what he finds.

1:14:29

So he's warning our crew

1:14:32

about what lies ahead. Keone

1:14:34

protests, Bereas pushes back since he is in charge

1:14:36

and now it's very clear that they have some

1:14:38

sort of ongoing argument. Bereas has

1:14:40

Zethis escort them out and back in the entry

1:14:42

hall, we've got Leo and Festus. Leo's all cleaned

1:14:44

up, Festus looks normal. Jason sees Leo eyeing up

1:14:47

Keone, so he makes a mental note. I should

1:14:49

probably tell him that this person sucks. Keone

1:14:52

tells Piper that they may have fooled Bereas,

1:14:54

but this won't be the last they see

1:14:56

of her. Jason calls her spoiled, she storms

1:14:58

off, Zethis warns that she never forgets an

1:15:01

insult, Cal calls her a bad sister. Jason

1:15:03

asks, what's she gonna do? Throw snowballs at us?

1:15:05

Which feels incredibly Percy Jackson of him to do,

1:15:08

but then he does know deep down that

1:15:10

she can do worse, which doesn't feel as

1:15:12
