Retired Brigadier General Peter B. Zwack is a Wilson Center Global Fellow at the Kennan Institute. In 1980 he began his 34-year U.S. Army career as an intelligence and security officer in a nuclear capable artillery battalion. Three decades later, he served as the U.S. Senior Defense Attaché to the Russian Federation from 2012–2014. He is the author of Afghanistan Kabul Kurier: One Soldier's Story of the Taliban, Tribes & Loyalties, Opium Trade, & Burqa and Swimming the Volga: A U.S. Army Officer's Experiences in Pre-Putin Russia.
