As the 20th century dawned, winds of change were sweeping through the world of sports. The 1900 Paris Olympics marked a historic turning point as women were allowed to compete for the first time ever. 

Countess Hélène De Pourtalès’s participation in the 1900 Olympics marked her as one of the first women to compete in the Games. Her gold and silver medals secured her place as the first woman to win an Olympic medal and the first woman to win a team gold medal.
