Hi Ben, my name is Ben and my secret

0:02

is how through a comical series of events I

0:04

ended up busting a prominent community member for an

0:07

embarrassing crime. Today the

0:09

secret room presents Hole 14. So

0:23

I give him a phone call and he answers and

0:25

I'm like, hey, do you have your gun on you?

0:28

It's right here. Why? Thanks

slash secret. Today,

1:05

my guest will divulge a clandestine secret set

1:08

against a serene backdrop of a moonlit golf

1:10

course with nothing but the echoes of coyotes

1:12

howling in the distance. Entrusted with

1:14

a mission of utmost secrecy, our protagonist

1:16

will endeavor to unmask a mysterious culprit

1:19

lurking in the shadows. Let's

1:21

get started. Hi

1:24

Ben and welcome to the secret room. Hey

1:27

Ben, thanks for having me. You're

1:29

welcome. It's nice to have another Ben on the

1:31

show for once. It's

1:34

great to also meet another Ben. My current

1:36

boss is also named Ben. So I do get to

1:38

spend some time with another Ben quite

1:41

often, but it's a whole

1:43

plethora of Benz. Yes, yes, yes.

1:45

Well, your secret, your secret sounds

1:47

so mysterious. Yeah. Tell

1:50

me about your profession. I'm in

1:52

Pennsylvania. Really I've lost track

1:54

in how many years, but I've been doing golf

1:56

course maintenance probably since I was 20 years old

1:58

now. taking care of

2:01

the day-to-day upkeep of keeping the

2:03

golfers happy. When in

2:05

your career did this story take place?

2:08

Three or four years into it when I was maybe

2:10

23-ish. So was

2:12

your first course? Yep, first

2:14

course. Tell me about the course and what

2:16

was it like? Yeah, it

2:18

was a relatively prominent country club in the

2:21

area. It was like the type of place

2:23

where the grounds crew wasn't allowed in the

2:25

clubhouse because the members would have a huge

2:27

problem with it. Gosh. Yeah,

2:29

we were kind of looked down on as

2:32

like the grime of the property. Oh my

2:34

goodness. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Yeah.

2:37

Tell me some more about the clientele. Yeah,

2:39

doctors, lawyers, politicians that are

2:41

members there, all of which

2:43

I would never communicate with because I would probably end

2:46

up getting in trouble by my boss. Mm-hmm. But

2:48

just, you know, the who's who of City

2:51

in central Pennsylvania. Okay, all right. Were

2:54

all the glitterati converge, I guess? That's

2:57

correct. Can you tell me about your boss? Oh,

3:00

yeah, my boss, he was a bit of

3:02

a nightmare to work for. He was a

3:05

very self-centered individual. He knew his stuff or

3:07

maybe he just acted like he knew his

3:10

stuff. I'm not entirely sure, but he had

3:12

me fooled. He could be very cool, but

3:14

in like the flip of a switch, he

3:16

could be uncool. Like at one

3:18

particular story, I remember I had missed two days in

3:21

a row. I was dealing with

3:23

some mental issues. My brother was sick. So

3:25

I went in and I explained to him why

3:27

I had missed the two days and he just looked

3:29

at me and said, well, is he gonna

3:31

die? I said no, and

3:33

he's like, well, then you should have came in. So that's

3:35

just a little bit of how the guy was. Wow, okay.

3:39

I still like I'm six years into my

3:41

second course now and every single year I

3:43

still apply to that course just kind of

3:45

to troll them a little bit. You apply

3:47

to them just to troll them? Yeah,

3:50

because they're always looking for help, like

3:52

always posting jobs opening and all that.

3:55

I just apply and see if he's gonna give me a

3:57

call. Is there a reason why he would

3:59

not? call you? Probably because it's

4:01

been six five

4:06

of them he's offered me a job and I've

4:08

turned it down five times but it's the sixth

4:10

year now and he's called five times so I'm

4:12

expecting the sixth one. So

4:14

you're just needling him, you just want to

4:16

tease him that you're interested in coming back

4:18

and then you get some pleasure out of

4:21

saying, ah, I'm actually doing fine

4:23

thanks. That is correct, yeah.

4:26

Another funny story about it like one night me and

4:28

some of my friends that I also worked with we

4:30

were in the Baltimore area and

4:32

joined an Orioles game and

4:34

it was about three in the morning after the

4:37

game and we wanted to you

4:39

know rile him up a bit so we prank

4:41

phone called him in the old star six seven

4:43

trick. So he

4:45

answers on like the second ring and I

4:48

asked him if his refrigerator was running and

4:51

he said yeah so I told him he has to go catch

4:55

it. I called him

4:57

another time and he answered on the

4:59

first ring, I ran the same script

5:02

and then I'm like there's no chance he answers

5:04

a third time but I gave

5:06

it a shot and what do you know he he

5:09

answered that third time and he fell for it again.

5:12

So each time you asked him the same question

5:14

is your refrigerator running and he said yes? That

5:17

is correct, yep. He sure did. How

5:20

much time was between the calls? About

5:23

a minute and a half just enough time for him to

5:25

think it's not gonna happen again. And then

5:28

you'd call him a minute

5:30

and a half later and he'd ask him the same question

5:32

and he'd answer like he hadn't heard it right

5:34

before? Yeah. I think the first time

5:37

I told him like I was so-and-so

5:39

from GE like is your

5:41

refrigerator running and then after that I didn't

5:43

run the GE part of it

5:45

or anything. I just asked him the question.

5:48

And he's like yeah just like random person

5:50

with no caller ID that's what star 67

5:52

is right? Yep. No caller ID. An unknown

5:54

caller. And yeah somebody just asked him out

5:56

of the blue three times in a row

5:59

and each time he says that's correct

6:01

my refrigerator is running.

6:04

That is correct, yep. I just

6:08

is inconceivable to me. I

6:11

don't understand how he could... Right. So weird.

6:14

Right, yeah he's an unbelievable human

6:16

being. Not all bad but

6:18

definitely not all good either. Right. Can

6:21

you tell me about a time that

6:24

he might have blown up you know

6:26

to earn this title loose cannon? Oh

6:31

man. Hmm. Yeah,

6:33

yeah, yep, yep, yep. Okay, so one

6:36

time on the golf course

6:38

they have like mowers and then behind

6:40

the mowers they send rollers out to

6:42

speed the greens up and everything. So the rollers

6:45

aren't... they're not cutting any grass but they're just

6:47

rolling right over the grass flattening it out making

6:49

the greens faster. We had a

6:51

rule where we weren't allowed to turn any of

6:53

our equipment in the short grass

6:55

like the fairway, the collar, etc. just

6:57

because it would leave ruts or he

6:59

said it would leave ruts. So

7:02

one day me and another kid

7:05

were out on these rollers. They both

7:07

were like the same setup mower, three

7:09

tires and like the turn would

7:11

be in the back. So I was out

7:14

in front of the other kid. I was on

7:16

hole four at the time the other kid

7:18

was on hole two and my boss drives

7:21

up to me and he goes, Ben are

7:23

you turning on the collar? And I'm like,

7:25

well no, I never do that because you

7:27

tell us not to. He's

7:29

like, okay, well I just talked to so-and-so

7:33

and he said he's not turning on it

7:35

either. So one of you's lying to me

7:38

and I said, okay, well I know

7:41

I didn't do it but if you're gonna just

7:43

go around pissed until somebody admits to it I'll

7:45

just save you the trouble and I'll admit that

7:47

I did it. Mm-hmm. And

7:50

he just was like, well why are you being such a baby? Like

7:52

I'm like, well I'm just trying to handle it

7:54

just to get it done as quick as possible so we can

7:56

keep working and he

7:59

just pretty much told me. me to go home for the day

8:02

because I had admitted to something I didn't do

8:04

I guess and I put my

8:06

two weeks in that day. Oh wow. Yeah.

8:09

I don't know what I was supposed to answer in that situation.

8:12

And yet he wants you to come back. Yeah.

8:15

Yep. Yep. And

8:17

I guess he didn't recognize your voice from those prank calls.

8:20

No he I guess he didn't. Yeah that's a good point.

8:23

It's kind of weird. That's

8:25

a good adjective

8:27

for him. Yep. And you

8:29

were telling me for a night wanting to go back to

8:31

work for him. Thanks. Yeah I

8:33

don't either. Let's

8:35

go to the summer of your secret.

8:37

Oh yeah. Yep. Can

8:40

you tell me who you worked with on the green spot

8:42

summer? Yeah there was a there's

8:44

like a solid group of four or five

8:46

older fellas that were all like in their

8:48

50s or older and they were they were

8:50

all just real cool like real cool

8:52

guys. And then it was

8:54

me and about five of my buddies real

8:57

close friends that we all just we wrote into work

8:59

together and we left together and it

9:02

was a real good summer as far as the staff goes.

9:05

So you had a lot of camaraderie. Oh yeah. Yep.

9:09

And then that summer and

9:11

I guess it happens every summer there's an annual

9:13

event at the country club. Yep. Yep

9:15

every summer they have they have the member guest. What

9:18

is the member guest? Essentially

9:21

it's the country clubs like attempt to

9:23

bring more members in by having each

9:25

member of the club able to bring

9:27

a guest and compete in a three-day

9:30

tournament. Oh wow. They're hoping that you

9:32

know the the guests will play the

9:34

course and enjoy it so much that they'll give them

9:36

you know ten plus thousand dollars to come and get

9:38

a membership of their own. Oh that's how

9:40

much it costs to go there huh? Not entirely

9:42

sure but I would imagine it was something

9:44

around there. Yeah not cheap.

9:48

No. Nope. But otherwise guests

9:50

are not permitted? I don't think so unless they're with

9:52

a member they can I guess they could always come

9:54

with a member for a fee but they

9:56

usually can't play in like club tournaments

9:58

and stuff. Yeah, so

10:00

this is an outreach effort every

10:02

year and it's probably a lot of fun for

10:04

everybody too because it's a it's a tournament of

10:06

members And their guests they and the members have

10:08

an opportunity to show off their course to their

10:10

friends to write Yeah, did that

10:13

usually generate new members for the club?

10:16

In the six years I worked there. I saw

10:19

pretty much zero in it new faces Okay,

10:23

so I don't think so interesting Okay,

10:26

that was probably your boss's idea Right,

10:29

right, right Well,

10:31

I imagine there's a lot of work that goes

10:33

into the preparation for the tournament because you want

10:35

the place to look tip-top Yep,

10:39

so can you tell me about about what you have

10:41

to do to get it into shape? well pretty much

10:43

every blade of grass on the course will get cut

10:45

in like The two days

10:47

leading up to the tournament from the rough

10:50

to the fairways the collars that approaches and

10:52

the greens So it's three days. So every

10:54

morning we would cut the greens twice and

10:56

then we would roll them twice so There's

10:59

four different pieces of equipment going across

11:01

the green and it's it's

11:03

all just to make the speed faster are

11:06

you doing more to get the Course

11:09

ready for the tournament than you

11:11

usually do. Yeah, I'd say so We're

11:14

making sure to cross our T's and dot our

11:16

I's as far as things go on the course

11:18

Yeah, and if anybody messes up the

11:21

work, I bet that's annoying That's

11:23

it. Yeah, that's an understatement. Yeah How

11:26

far in advance did you start prepping for

11:28

the tournament weekend? I'd

11:31

say probably about a good month. We would add

11:33

like an extra mo or an extra rolling in

11:36

Throughout the week just to bring the speeds

11:39

up slowly and then you know,

11:41

we'd put a few more things on it But

11:44

as we got closer to the date,

11:46

okay, so this was very serious. Oh,

11:49

yeah. Oh, yeah places gotta look

11:51

great Yeah, so were there

11:53

any instances where? The

11:55

course did get messed up Yeah,

11:58

yeah, some of them were caused by Mother Nature

12:00

and then you'd have you know the

12:02

random hooligans coming in creating

12:05

some riff-raff places they shouldn't. Like well

12:07

tell me an example of that. I

12:10

remember one day we had like dirt bike tracks

12:13

going through the rough in different places. It was

12:16

usually just people driving off-road vehicles. How

12:21

do they get there? The property is not

12:23

fenced off? There's a driveway

12:25

but there's no gate on the driveway which

12:27

now I've never really thought about how weird

12:30

that is. They could have really solved some

12:32

problems just by putting a gate up. Sure

12:34

yeah that sounds weird. I mean it's this

12:36

exclusive club that you anybody can

12:39

just drive up. Right maybe

12:41

it's changed since then but... Any

12:43

other problems besides the random hooligan?

12:46

Yeah there was there was indeed. He picked

12:49

the wrong time to do it. He would have been

12:51

fine but he just did it at the wrong time.

12:53

You mean he did it in the time ahead of

12:55

the tournament? Yes that's correct. Otherwise it wouldn't have been

12:57

a big deal. Yep he

12:59

just... He found himself in

13:02

the predicament just because of when it happened.

13:04

Well tell me what he was doing. That

13:08

answer is next as we continue. My

13:16

bedtime schedule is so important to

13:18

me. I get up a long

13:20

before the sun comes up and it's been a

13:22

struggle to make sure I'm well rested. And it's

13:25

never been easier now that I

13:27

have Hatch restored too. A gentle

13:29

sunrise alarm with soothing sleep sounds

13:31

all rolled into one beautiful dream

13:33

machine. The secret room has teamed

13:36

up with Hatch to offer up to 20% off

13:38

your hatch device purchase and

13:41

free shipping at hatch.co secret.

13:44

I mentioned I wake up early. Really

13:46

early. And there's no sunrise at

13:49

4 a.m. to motivate my morning

13:51

routine. But Hatch has this

13:53

pesky problem solved. Unlike

13:55

a traditional alarm, the Hatch Restore 2

13:58

wakes you up gently with a sun rise

14:00

that gradually changes color and it

14:02

gets brighter, stimulating your natural sleep

14:05

patterns. In some nights,

14:07

it can be so hard to let go of my

14:09

to-do list running through my mind. Hatch

14:11

has an extensive catalog of sleep sounds

14:13

and meditation sessions to help me switch

14:15

my focus and start to relax. I've

14:18

always loved sleep sounds that use water, so

14:20

Deep Sea Dreams was my quick favorite.

14:23

Hatch has helped over 5 million people from

14:26

babies to adults get a better night's sleep,

14:28

and you can too. Right

14:30

now, as listeners of The Secret Room, Hatch is offering

14:32

you up to 20% off and free shipping

14:36

on your Hatch device

14:38

purchase. Visit hatch.co.secret for

14:40

up to 20% off. Hatch.co.secret.

14:45

Check the show notes for the details. And

14:49

we're back? Well,

14:53

tell me what he was doing. So,

14:55

he was driving his car probably about

14:57

a quarter of a mile up

14:59

the driveway and then he would turn off

15:02

the driveway into the rough, drive through the

15:04

fairway and drive right up onto our 14th

15:06

green and just park his truck. And

15:09

you saw him doing this? No,

15:12

eventually I did. Yes, I did eventually

15:14

see him, but we weren't sure at

15:17

the beginning what was like what all was

15:19

happening. So, what

15:21

time of day was this

15:24

person interloping onto the

15:26

green with his truck? We

15:29

weren't real sure. We knew it was happening at

15:31

night because the clubhouse was open until like 8,

15:33

9 o'clock. I see. So, this was

15:35

happening after hours? Correct, yep. Okay.

15:38

In the dark of night. Yep.

15:41

Okay. And were there cameras?

15:44

There was probably about a

15:47

month into him doing this. We

15:49

put a trail cam back behind

15:51

the green. And

15:53

was there any evidence on the

15:56

camera? Didn't produce any

15:58

evidence. Hmm, interesting. Okay,

16:00

so you've got a situation where you

16:02

are prepping the greens

16:05

for this big annual event, a

16:07

big tournament called the Membered Guest.

16:10

Yep. And you're working real

16:12

hard, a month or so in advance,

16:14

to make sure the course is

16:16

in tip-top shape. And somebody

16:19

is driving up in the dead

16:21

of night to the 14th green

16:23

and messing it up with their tire tracks.

16:26

Yep, that is correct. Okay.

16:29

So what is special about the 14th green? Why would

16:31

somebody go park there as far as you know at this

16:34

point in time? Yeah,

16:36

there's just a view like

16:38

over, it overlooks like the course sits

16:40

on a mountain. So the 14th green

16:42

specifically is like one of the highest

16:44

points on the course and it overlooks

16:46

a big river that goes through our

16:48

area. Oh, it sounds beautiful. It's

16:52

a very nice view at night, very romantic. Mm-hmm,

16:55

okay. So

16:57

the person is coming up at night and you can,

16:59

there's enough light where I

17:01

guess with the moon that somebody going

17:03

up in their truck can enjoy the

17:06

view even at night. Yep.

17:09

Huh, okay. How often are

17:11

they driving up there? Can you tell? When

17:13

it first started happening, it was probably

17:15

about March or so. So it was only

17:18

like once every two weeks or so I'm guessing because

17:20

of the cold. As

17:22

the summer progressed and whatnot, it was turned

17:24

into a weekly thing or multiple times a

17:26

week even. Huh,

17:29

okay. So this can't make your

17:31

loose cannon boss very happy. No,

17:34

it sure didn't. What did he

17:36

have to say about it? He

17:39

was like ripping his hair out trying to figure

17:41

out how we could catch the guy. Like he

17:43

had no idea though, was, he tried the trail

17:45

cam, didn't get anything. He was

17:47

out of ideas. Hmm. Yeah,

17:50

this has got to be super annoying because you'll

17:53

work all day, all week and

17:55

then somebody will just

17:57

drive across the course. And

18:00

then you've got to go around doing cleanup after

18:02

that the next day and it probably takes some

18:05

time. Yeah, it

18:07

would pretty much take about an hour for

18:10

somebody to fix it each time. Okay. So

18:12

it's not the end of the world but it is super annoying and it

18:14

just is not right. Right, right.

18:17

Okay. So after

18:19

your loose cannon boss got finished pulling

18:21

out all his hair, did

18:24

he... I can just see

18:26

it. Yep. Did he eventually come

18:28

up with a plan to catch the perp? I

18:30

think it was suggested by one of me and

18:32

my comrades. Oh, okay. We were

18:34

surprised that he decided to take us up on

18:36

the idea. Interesting. Okay, so the

18:39

idea came from below. Yep. Do

18:41

you remember presenting the idea to him? I

18:43

don't specifically remember but I remember

18:45

whoever did it in a joking

18:48

manner like there's no way he's

18:50

gonna go for this. And what

18:52

did your comrade suggest jokingly?

18:55

Suggested maybe we should just take out here at night

18:57

and just wait for him to park and then we'll

19:00

call the cops when he gets here. Okay. Seems

19:02

like a great idea, pretty obvious. Yep.

19:05

He's gonna take somebody off the day shift

19:07

though. Maybe your boss doesn't care for that too much.

19:10

No, yeah, he definitely would have preferred that everybody

19:12

would come in during the day but it was

19:14

a tough thing to ask, yeah. Yeah. So

19:17

yeah, tough to ask and maybe worth it in the end if you

19:19

can catch this interloper. Right,

19:22

right. But the interloper does not

19:24

come on a regular schedule nor

19:27

does the interloper come every night so

19:29

this might require a few nights of

19:31

stakeout activity. Yeah, we didn't have the

19:33

manpower to invest somebody to look into

19:35

the patterns and whatnot of

19:37

his visits. Yeah. Okay.

19:40

Well, it's so intriguing. So

19:43

what was the plan then? How

19:45

was the stakeout organized? There

19:47

was pretty much no plan given to us

19:49

from our boss other than hey, we're gonna

19:52

park a cart out here and you guys

19:54

can take the cart out and figure out

19:56

what to do from there. So

19:59

he left it on us. much to figure out

20:01

the strategic points of the operation. Okay,

20:03

well this sounds like might have been kind

20:05

of a fun assignment. It's

20:07

to this day I haven't worked a

20:10

better situation than this. This was the most fun I've ever

20:12

had on the clock. Okay,

20:14

so I take it you volunteered. Yeah,

20:17

first first volunteer. Without

20:19

hesitation. Didn't hesitate

20:21

at all. Okay. Hand shot right up.

20:23

All right. Did anybody else follow

20:26

suit? Yeah, for the first

20:28

night my friend Sean, he volunteered to join

20:30

me for the night. Yep. Okay, great. So

20:33

we've got a team of two ready to

20:35

go. Did you have to work your day

20:37

shift also? The

20:39

first day I do believe, yeah, that day we did.

20:41

You got paid for both, right? Yep.

20:43

Okay. No, it was not a volunteer situation.

20:46

As far as like the pay goes, it

20:48

ran off. But yeah, I did pull. Yeah,

20:50

I pulled a cat and it's ever been

20:52

a volunteer. Okay.

20:54

Okay. Nice reference.

20:57

Thanks. Yeah. So

21:00

what time did you head out to the

21:02

greens? When did it get dark? It was

21:04

getting dark probably around 8 30 or so.

21:06

So we got to the shop parking lot

21:08

around nine o'clock. All right. So it's dark

21:11

and the perpetrator is not

21:13

there. We weren't sure. We were

21:16

parking our car like probably about a half

21:18

a mile away and then

21:21

driving a golf cart to the position.

21:23

So the first night we

21:25

got out there and he

21:28

wasn't there. So we situated into our spots.

21:30

I was like on one side

21:32

of the fairway and my friend was on the other

21:34

side of the fairway. But like we were talking on

21:36

walkie talkies, looking at each other the entire night. This

21:39

is so fun. So you guys are on

21:42

different sides. Yep. And you've got it

21:44

in your sights. Yep. From two

21:46

vantage points and you've gotten your outfit with walkie

21:49

talkies. I love it. And

21:51

you were observing the situation. It's light

21:53

enough where, well, you won't, you wouldn't

21:55

miss a vehicle coming up. Even if

21:57

it's running dark, you'll be able to

21:59

see that. Right. Did you bring any

22:01

gear with you? I don't know night vision goggles,

22:03

a lawn chair, anything else

22:06

besides walkie-talkies? Yeah, the

22:08

first night I think I took a bag

22:10

of snacks, drink, a

22:12

lawn chair, a bag

22:14

of weed and a bag

22:16

of strawberry cigarillos. You

22:21

are prepared. Yep, I

22:23

had all the essentials for about

22:25

a four-hour shift. Fantastic. All right.

22:28

So tell me how the evening went. Pretty

22:31

much me sitting there radioing

22:33

to my friend asking him if he saw

22:35

anything when I could clearly see he didn't

22:37

see anything. Okay.

22:40

So we did that for about an hour. And

22:43

then I radioed for him to

22:45

come on over because I had one of the

22:47

cigarillos ready to go. Okay. And as

22:49

soon as he started walking on the fairway

22:51

the sprinklers came on and he got soaked.

22:54

Okay. That was an unfortunate thing, but he

22:56

came over, we smoked and then he went

22:58

back over to his perch, sat

23:01

till the end of the shift and

23:03

went home. Nothing happened. All right. And

23:05

did the water damage any of your

23:07

important gear? No, luckily

23:09

it did not. Okay. Great. And were

23:11

you in camouflage by the way? Like,

23:13

you know, what are you wearing this

23:15

important assignment? It's a good

23:17

question. I think I was probably just in

23:20

all black. Mmm. Yeah, good. Yeah, I think

23:22

just all black. What time did

23:24

you break camp? We probably stayed

23:26

till about midnight that night. About midnight. Okay,

23:28

so you're like, this is not happening.

23:30

We're out of here. Yep.

23:33

No action. Did you have

23:35

any codes you used over the walkie-talkie? Like,

23:38

you know, 10-4.

23:40

I know what you mean. We definitely used 10-4. Mm-hmm.

23:44

But I don't think there was any other

23:46

trucker talk that I can remember. The next

23:48

day you go to work, right? Maybe you go in

23:50

a little bit late. Yep. The

23:53

next day I went in about two hours, three hours

23:55

late. Okay, and that was sanctioned by the boss. He

23:57

was fine with you coming in late, I assume. I

24:00

hope. Yep. Okay. Yeah,

24:03

he was. All right. That's

24:05

a good point though. Yeah, I

24:07

wouldn't have been surprised if you'd said he was not

24:09

happy you were late. Yeah, I wouldn't have been surprised

24:11

either. Yeah. Okay. Do

24:13

you remember giving him your report? I just told him that we didn't see

24:16

anything and, you know, he had a

24:18

little look of like disappointment thinking that's all it

24:20

would take just one night. Right. He

24:22

understood and then he was looking for

24:24

volunteers for that night. Okay. So

24:26

the mission is going to continue. We're not giving up

24:29

after one night. Yeah, we got to get this guy.

24:31

Right. Got to nab him. Did you

24:33

volunteer for another night? I wanted to

24:35

give someone else the experience for a

24:37

chance. That's good of you. My friend

24:39

Zach volunteered and then Sean decided he

24:41

would give it a go another night.

24:43

So Zach is going on the

24:46

second night and are you going

24:48

with Zach also? Nope. It's going

24:50

to be Zach and Sean night too. They probably got

24:52

there around 8.30, went out on the course around 9.

24:55

Did you hear any stories from their evening? Well,

24:57

I couldn't resist. I needed to see if they

25:00

were going to find him. So I went out

25:02

on my own but I didn't tell them that

25:04

I was showing up. Oh, okay.

25:07

So I parked down at the shop and I

25:10

just walked out. I knew exactly like I texted

25:12

him beforehand and I asked each one individually where

25:14

are you sitting? Okay. And

25:17

then I went out dead of

25:19

night silent when I snuck up

25:21

behind Sean and started playing like

25:23

wolf noises, predator noises pretty much.

25:25

On your iPhone? Yep, on my

25:27

iPhone. That is clever.

25:29

And so did he freak out like with

25:31

his coyote somewhere around here? I watched his

25:33

head start like moving all over the place

25:35

kind of checking out like what's going to

25:38

happen. So yeah, I definitely had him startled.

25:40

That's pretty good. Yeah. So I let that

25:42

go for about five minutes or so before

25:44

I snuck up behind him and scared the

25:46

hell out of him. Did you bark? No,

25:49

I just I said, hey Sean and it

25:51

scared him. That was enough. You

25:53

freaked him out. It was probably good. I didn't do more

25:55

than that. I'm a heart attack. Right, right,

25:58

right. All right. and

26:00

then you confessed that you were the coyote.

26:03

Yes, I did. I did. And then I told him

26:05

I was going to zero in on Zach now. Same

26:07

prank. Yeah, that was at least

26:09

the initial plan. Ooh, what happened? And

26:12

the answer to that is just ahead, as Ben's

27:59

Check the show notes for... all the details. And

28:08

we're back with Ben's secret. I

28:11

was gonna zero in on Zach now. Same prank.

28:14

Yeah, that was at least the initial plan.

28:16

Ooh, what happened? Well, I was

28:18

probably about fifty feet from Zach and

28:20

he... Zach's a Second Amendment

28:22

guy and... Oh, he had a gun. Yeah,

28:25

yeah, he had... well, I wasn't sure,

28:27

but I knew... I knew him

28:29

well enough, so I got to about fifty feet

28:31

and I'm like, oh shit, like I bet you...

28:34

I bet you he has a gun with him.

28:36

Yeah, be careful. I'm like, yeah, I'm scared. So

28:40

I give him a phone call and he answers and

28:42

I'm like, hey, do you have your gun on you?

28:45

And he's like, yeah, it's right here.

28:47

Why? I'm like, perfect. I'm like

28:49

fifty feet behind you and I was just about

28:51

to scare the hell out of you, but I

28:53

figured you had a gun on you and I

28:56

didn't want to get shot. So I'm

28:58

right behind you. And he just started

29:00

laughing. He's like, that was a real smart idea

29:02

to give me a call. Well, sorry.

29:04

Yeah. Had you

29:07

already played some coyote noises? Nope,

29:09

luckily I didn't. I knew... I guess

29:11

I knew to call before playing the coyotes for him.

29:14

Okay, well, good for thinking there. Thank

29:16

you. You live to tell this tale

29:18

on the podcast. That's right. So that night

29:20

I just pretty much did that and then

29:22

I left. Was there any smoking

29:24

on this particular night in question? I

29:27

can't remember. So I would have to imagine there was.

29:30

Yeah, probably both stops. One was Sean, one

29:33

was Zach. Right. Okay, good. Okay. So you

29:35

guys are making the most of this. Oh,

29:37

yeah. You know, what could otherwise be a

29:39

boring assignment. Yeah, we're taking advantage of not

29:41

having any supervision out there. Right. Yeah, that's

29:44

fun. Okay. You get to see the country

29:46

club in a whole new light. Exactly.

29:49

Yep. Glad you survived that. Thanks. Yeah.

29:51

Do you think he might have drawn

29:53

his weapon on a coyote? Like

29:55

if he had heard the coyoting noises, would he have unhauled

29:57

or, you know, wherever he's carrying his weapon? You think he

29:59

would? I don't think he would have just started

30:01

like spraying it or anything, but he would have

30:03

definitely had his hand on his hip looking around.

30:05

Right. Yikes. Okay.

30:08

I will say Zach is a very safe gun handler. Very good. Okay.

30:11

So noted. You guys go to work the

30:14

next day. Now you were freelancing that night. Correct. Did

30:16

you end up getting paid for that night or? No, I had

30:18

to be in the next morning early too. You had to be

30:21

in on time. Yup. Did you

30:23

confess to your boss that you were there or is

30:25

that a secret? I guess that could be a secret

30:27

within this. Yeah. I was just like, I'm not going

30:29

to tell him. Because then he probably would have had

30:31

a problem with it. Yeah. Yeah,

30:33

right. Yeah, he would definitely would

30:35

have had a problem with that like unauthorized access, you

30:37

know, get trespasses or something. Do

30:40

you remember their report to your boss the next morning when

30:43

they came in? Yeah, it was about

30:45

the exact same as mine the

30:47

previous night. No, actually. Yup. So

30:50

is your boss disheartened? Yeah,

30:53

to say the least. Poor guy. Yeah,

30:55

he's defeated at this point. Oh

30:58

my God. I

31:01

don't know why I find it so funny. It's hilarious. I

31:03

know. And you don't even know the guy.

31:05

Like if you knew him, it would be way funnier. But I'm glad

31:08

that you can get a sense out of it without knowing him. He's

31:11

defeated, but not deterred, I imagine. Yeah, that's

31:13

a good way to put it. Does he

31:16

ask for volunteers for night three? He does.

31:18

He does indeed ask for some more people

31:20

to stake out a third night. Who are

31:22

recruits for the third night? I was eager

31:25

to get back out there. So I shot

31:27

up and said me and a new character,

31:29

Larry, has entered the story. Larry

31:31

volunteered night three. What's he like? Larry's

31:33

a character. He's a high strung guy.

31:36

You know, he's either 100%

31:38

into something or he's not into it

31:40

at all. He's hilarious.

31:42

Very funny. The type of

31:44

guy you would want to stake out a place

31:46

with. Oh, perfect. Okay, so I feel he's going

31:48

to be more hijacked. Yeah. Yup.

31:51

How do your colleagues see this whole affair? They think it's

31:53

pretty funny or just a kind of a waste of time?

31:55

They think it's hilarious. They think it's so funny that they're

31:58

letting us do this. So my boss didn't know that. I

32:00

came by that night that I was off but all the

32:02

other guys did and they thought it was great. Okay.

32:05

The evening comes on night three. You're ready to go out with

32:07

Larry. I take it he is 100% in as opposed to zero.

32:11

I would even say 150%. Okay. So

32:14

you guys are amped. Oh yeah. Oh

32:16

yeah. You're like, let the perp come tonight. We are

32:18

ready. Yep. Okay. Well,

32:21

we'll see if anything's going to happen. So what gear did

32:23

you pack for night three? Night three,

32:25

I was a little bit more prepared. I

32:27

had five pre-rolled blunts so I didn't have

32:29

to waste any time getting them ready to

32:32

go and then just everything else I had

32:34

night one. Yeah. I can just

32:36

see you out there in your lawn chair with

32:38

your weed, surveying the area and communicating with Larry

32:40

across the course on your walkie

32:42

talkie. This night we actually

32:44

sat together. We figured it would

32:47

be best to sit together in a middle

32:49

location and when he got there, we would

32:51

split up from there. I see. Okay.

32:54

Well, and there's strength in numbers in case the coyotes

32:56

descend upon you. That's right. Exactly. I

32:58

didn't even think of that. Yep. I'm

33:01

pretty smart. As soon as we got there, we get

33:03

in the golf cart and we start smoking while we're

33:05

driving out onto the course. As

33:07

we're driving out onto the course, I see

33:10

like there's supposed to be zero people on

33:12

the property at this time other

33:14

than me and Larry. So as we're

33:16

driving out, I see by our

33:18

one pond, there is a commotion

33:21

going on. There's a truck with its lights

33:23

on and at least another car with its

33:25

lights on. So I immediately

33:27

called, it's our assistant superintendent, so

33:30

the second in charge and

33:32

I told him like, hey, this is happening right

33:34

now. I don't know if like

33:36

the guy's not on the green, but there's a

33:38

lot of stuff going on. Highly suspicious. He's like,

33:41

okay, let me call you back. So he calls

33:43

me back and he's like, oh, it's

33:45

fine. Don't worry about it. The one golf shop

33:47

attendant forgot to put his e-brake on

33:50

and his car drifted into the pond.

33:52

Oh my gosh. Yeah. So

33:55

that's how our night started and we're both

33:57

baked, like trying to comprehend what's

33:59

going on. on. So that was a

34:01

distraction. Yep, before we even

34:03

got situated, yep. I'd be concerned

34:05

that, you know, all this extra activity might

34:08

scare off the perpetrator. The place is not

34:10

as quiet as it normally is at that

34:12

time of night. That was what

34:14

our thought was too. Yeah. Did

34:17

the activity at the pond clear

34:19

out? No, we kept

34:21

checking, looking to see if they were still there

34:23

and an hour went by, they were

34:25

still there. The second hour went by, they were

34:27

still there. We watched the tow truck come up

34:30

the driveway and we figured they'd be out of

34:32

there soon. Did you decide to roll

34:34

out? You know, like nothing's going to

34:36

happen tonight. If the perp was even here, he's

34:38

not going to drive up when there's so many

34:40

people around. No, we still wanted

34:42

to get paid our time. I still had some blunts

34:45

that we wanted to smoke, so we figured we'd sit

34:47

there for a bit. All right,

34:49

priorities. Excellent. Yep. What

34:51

happened as the night progressed? Do you play any

34:53

more coyote sounds? Try to scare Larry? No,

34:56

I don't think Larry's heart could have handled a

34:58

scare that night. No,

35:00

we just kind of sat there, chit-chatted, smoked

35:03

the five blunts and then about

35:05

11, 11.30, there was

35:09

some headlights that just started coming up the

35:11

driveway. Oh, okay. All right. Mm-hmm.

35:15

Yep. It's go

35:17

time. We weren't sure yet. Larry's ears perked up.

35:20

He knew, he knew, but I wasn't so sure

35:23

at this point. I mean, who else could it

35:25

be at that time of night? Well, maybe it

35:27

was a ride for the guy whose car went

35:29

into the pond. Okay, okay. So, you're not jumping

35:31

to any conclusions? No, I'm not. But

35:34

Larry, being neither zero or 100 person, he's at

35:36

100 and 10. Yeah,

35:39

at bare minimum 110, yep. At

35:43

a minimum. So, what did he do?

35:45

As soon as the car drove past

35:47

where we were sitting, he shot up

35:49

out of his chair and just started

35:51

sprinting towards the green. Oh, no. Yeah,

35:53

we were probably about 400, probably about 400

35:55

feet or so from. from

36:00

the green. Did you have any cover?

36:02

Like were you able to hide yourself so that

36:04

the person in the car would miss you? We

36:06

were sitting like way away from, like we weren't

36:08

even near the green that he was at. We

36:10

were across the driveway on the other side so

36:12

he wouldn't have been expecting to see us there.

36:15

So the headlights didn't shine on you or you

36:17

were not revealed in any way? Nope, nope, not

36:19

even close. So Larry takes off

36:21

and you're left behind? Yeah, I'm just

36:23

sitting there. I think we probably

36:25

had a blunt going at the time so I'm just sitting

36:28

there finishing that up. You're not going to waste that. I'm

36:31

like, whoa, where are you going, Larry? Okay,

36:36

all right, so he's sprinting toward

36:38

the truck. It's a truck, right?

36:41

It is a truck, yep. We noticed

36:43

now it's a truck. Do you surmise

36:45

at this point that this vehicle could

36:47

be the one that was leading the tracks

36:49

that you have witnessed on the course?

36:52

It was definitely crossing my mind. They were

36:54

driving up the driveway way quicker than they

36:56

needed to be and we figured

36:58

it was a truck with the size of the tires.

37:01

So what is your assignment precisely

37:04

when you witness a car? Are

37:06

you supposed to confront the

37:08

driver or get a make and

37:11

model license plate? What is your

37:13

objective? We were told to just

37:15

wait at the entrance to get

37:17

the license plate as the car

37:19

was leaving. I

37:21

think we also were told to call

37:23

the boss so he could call the

37:25

cops when the car was on the

37:28

green. Wow, exciting. Okay, so what is

37:30

Larry doing? What does he think he's going to

37:32

do when he gets to the,

37:34

I assume he's trying to reach the

37:36

truck. Yes. So what's he

37:38

going to do when he gets there? I

37:40

noticed right after he left that he also

37:42

left his walkie talkie so I couldn't really

37:44

ask him and we didn't discuss it

37:46

at all. He just took off. I mean I would

37:48

be concerned there might be a second

37:51

amendment gentleman in the truck. Not

37:54

the safest situation. Yes, but that didn't cross Larry's

37:56

mind at all. He needed to get this guy.

38:01

He's tired of the extra work this guy's causing.

38:04

Exactly. As soon as he takes off, I

38:06

walked down to like the front entrance pretty

38:08

much just in case he didn't get anything,

38:10

I could be there for when the car

38:12

drove away. Smart. A license

38:14

plate. Smart. I called my boss while I

38:16

was doing that. Okay, was your boss pretty excited? Yeah. Yeah,

38:19

he was. He was pumped. He

38:21

was like, finally. Yeah, three nights invested. Yeah,

38:23

exactly. And now we've got some payoff. Exactly.

38:27

Larry made his way to the truck by

38:29

now. I had no clue where he

38:31

was at. It was so dark, I couldn't see him. So

38:33

what happened next for you? Called my

38:35

boss. He's like, okay, great. I'll

38:37

call the cops a while. And

38:40

I told him, like, I don't know where Larry's at.

38:42

Like he doesn't have his walkie talkie. I was panicking

38:44

a little bit. So

38:47

the moment you've been waiting for is here. It

38:49

is upon you. Yeah, the adrenaline's pumping and I

38:51

just kept saying, I can't find Larry. I don't

38:53

know where Larry's at. My

38:56

boss is like, it's fine. He's okay. So

39:00

as he hangs up, my phone vibrates. I pulled

39:02

out and I have a text message from Larry.

39:05

And it's a crystal clear picture a

39:07

foot away of the license plate of

39:09

the truck. Wow. While

39:11

it's still parked on the green. Yeah. So

39:14

he's crawling around behind the truck. He's

39:16

got a picture. Yeah. So I

39:18

adjust my eyes to the dark a little

39:20

bit and I'm able to pick out his

39:23

little silhouette like crawling away from the car.

39:26

And I see him running back up towards our perch.

39:29

Legend. Yeah. Legend.

39:32

That's great. He is legend.

39:34

Okay. So he got that picture. Okay. And

39:37

so then you saw him running away? Yeah. I

39:39

was able to see him running away from the truck back up to where

39:41

we were sitting that night. Okay. But

39:44

you're not there? Nope. I'm over

39:46

by the entrance. And he doesn't know unless you text him back. Right. So

39:49

I just started to walk back over to our perch

39:51

because I saw he had already gotten a license plate.

39:53

So I didn't need to get it as the car

39:55

was leaving. All right. So

39:57

why do you need to go back just to have

39:59

some more weed? Yeah, just

40:01

so we can sit there and watch it unfold together.

40:03

Okay. Oh yeah, okay. Watch it

40:06

unfold. So you're monitoring the truck? Yeah,

40:08

exactly. Now it's pretty much just like

40:10

our own little drama series. Right. Because

40:12

the cops are on their way. Correct,

40:14

yes. Oh wow, okay. But you don't

40:17

need to wait at the entrance to

40:19

direct the cops where to go? Nope,

40:21

the boss was directing the cops where

40:23

to go. Okay. When he called

40:25

him. I think he was on the phone with them the whole

40:27

time. Oh, so exciting. Your boss must have been loving

40:29

this. I think he was, yeah.

40:33

Okay, that's good, amazing.

40:35

Okay, so you guys are, you're

40:38

waiting for the action, right? So did the cops

40:40

show up? Yeah, the

40:42

cops showed up a pretty good response. I might

40:44

say they were probably there within five minutes of

40:46

me calling my boss and letting them know. Holy

40:49

cow, it's almost like they were on standby. Yeah,

40:52

it seemed like they were. And

40:54

it was about, I think there were two,

40:56

maybe three cop cars. Good lord, I mean

40:58

that's like a pretty good show, force for

41:00

the nature of the crime. Right, right. Which

41:03

I'm not sure what the crime is, maybe

41:05

trespassing or something. Yeah, for one trespasser, yep.

41:07

Loitering on a green in the

41:10

dead night. Yeah. Okay.

41:12

So did the cruisers pull up on the grass? No,

41:16

I couldn't even imagine what my boss would have done

41:18

if they had done that. Yeah, and get them arrested

41:20

too. He would have been getting arrested for assaulting an

41:23

officer probably. No,

41:25

they parked like right along the driveway, just got

41:27

out of the car. How far

41:29

was the walk from where they parked to

41:31

the truck in question? Probably

41:34

about 100 yards or so. Okay. So

41:36

they make the journey and you're watching the whole

41:39

thing unfold. Yeah, we're watching

41:41

it from probably about 300 yards away. All

41:43

right. And so do the cops have flashlights? Yep,

41:46

the cops had flashlights. They rolled in with no

41:48

lights on though. So I wonder if

41:50

the person in the truck saw

41:53

the flashlights approaching. I wonder that too.

41:55

That's a good question. The truck

41:57

did not try to make a getaway. Didn't turn

41:59

on. Wow, okay. So, the cops

42:01

just approached the truck and what

42:03

happened? So, as soon as

42:06

like the cops parked the tow truck with

42:08

the pro shop guys, Acura, is like coming

42:10

down the driveway. We thought that maybe then

42:12

the truck would get spooked because they'd see

42:14

the tow truck at the bare minimum but

42:16

that didn't happen either. The

42:18

person in the truck probably thinks he's, you know, under cloak

42:20

of darkness. If he turns on the truck,

42:23

he's going to be revealed. Right, and he's probably thought like,

42:25

oh, I've done this a bunch

42:27

of times. Nobody has any clue here. Yeah,

42:29

right. Right, okay. Yeah, he's feeling pretty comfortable.

42:31

What happens next? Then we

42:33

watched the cops pretty much just approach the truck

42:36

and they like they were rooting

42:39

around the truck for a little bit and

42:41

we couldn't really see like if they had

42:43

anybody out of the truck or anything at

42:45

this point but about like five, ten minutes

42:47

go by and you just see a man

42:49

and a woman getting walked back to the

42:52

police cars parked along the driveway. Whoops.

42:54

So you said it was a romantic spot

42:56

and so I'm assuming what we have here

42:58

is a man and a woman just enjoying

43:00

the view in the evening together. Yep, in

43:03

the company of each other. You

43:05

said it took maybe five to ten minutes of

43:08

the cops at the truck before

43:10

the people inside got out. Was

43:13

there a standoff, do you think? Like

43:16

was something going on? I don't think there was

43:18

a standoff. I think they might have just wanted

43:20

to like pat everybody down. Well, this must have

43:22

been thrilling for you guys. It

43:25

was great. I bet. All

43:27

your hard work is paid off, got

43:30

results. Yep. The cops take

43:32

the two occupants of the truck down

43:34

to their cruisers, I guess. Yep. And

43:36

they leave the truck on the green.

43:38

Yeah, yep. Is your boss on the

43:40

scene at this point? The assistant was,

43:42

the loose cannon was at home at

43:44

this point. I would think he'd be

43:46

running down there, catch all the action.

43:49

Yeah, I'm kind of surprised he wasn't

43:51

either. Yeah. Did you head down

43:53

to see what was going on or did

43:56

you just continue to enjoy the evening and

43:58

your weed? Our assistant. Justin

44:00

called me and told me to come down like

44:02

police had to talk to us. So

44:04

we got into the truck with our boss

44:06

and these two cops and the one was

44:09

asking us like, you guys out here drinking

44:11

tonight? And like we're there just like baked

44:13

losing it like just laughing about what just

44:15

happened. Right. And I'm like, no, we're

44:17

not drinking tonight. Nope, no drinking just doing our job.

44:20

And he asked us like what happened? We went

44:22

through all this and he's like,

44:24

okay, thanks. You guys are free to go. All

44:26

right. You guys go. You're

44:29

feeling accomplished. You're feeling pretty good. You

44:31

came to work the next day. How were you

44:34

treated by the staff? Everybody

44:36

even the loose cannon boss was just

44:38

thrilled. They were treating us like rock

44:40

stars. Fantastic. Wow. Yeah,

44:42

it was great. Real royalty. But

44:44

you know, I'm so curious what happened to

44:47

the perp. Yeah, we were too. Maybe

44:50

around one o'clock that afternoon, our

44:52

assistant comes up to me and he's

44:55

like, you'll never guess who I just had to talk to. I'm

44:59

like, yeah, I have no clue. Like, I don't know

45:01

where to begin guessing. And

45:03

he's like, well, it was the wife

45:05

of the police officer that was parking

45:07

his car on 14 green. And

45:10

I'm like, oh. Okay. Hold on.

45:13

Hold on. Why what? So it

45:15

was a cop in the truck. Yes,

45:17

it was. Yep. Yep. It

45:20

was a police officer. And the assistant was talking

45:23

to his wife who I'm assuming was not in

45:25

the truck with him. That's

45:27

what we're learning. Yes, that is correct. It was

45:29

not the woman that was with him the previous

45:31

night. Oh, boy. Oh, this is

45:33

a very unfortunate situation. Yeah.

45:37

Pretty much my boss pretty much had to break the

45:39

news to the guy's wife

45:41

that he was parking on our

45:43

green for months. And

45:45

last night, he was pulled out of the

45:47

car by police officers and there was another

45:49

woman in the car. Oh, my gosh. And

45:52

so why did your boss have to tell the

45:54

wife? Did she work there? I'm

45:56

guessing that there were no charges filed

45:58

or anything. I don't know how she

46:00

found out to go there. I guess

46:03

maybe she had to come pick the

46:05

truck up Hmm. I don't know. I

46:07

don't know how she ever found out

46:09

like to come and talk to anybody

46:11

there because there was never any charges

46:16

Why were there no charges filed because

46:18

there was no crime or no, he's

46:20

a police officer or I

46:22

think it was probably because He's a

46:24

police officer. That's interesting. Yeah, that's my guess

46:26

it would be up to the The

46:29

owner of the of the country club. Yeah,

46:31

but they decided not to file charges, right?

46:33

I mean, it's not the worst crime in

46:35

the world. No, it's not

46:37

it's definitely not Yeah, but it is definitely

46:39

a little abuse of power Probably

46:41

knew the guy that was supposed to be like On

46:45

patrol in that area that night. Hmm He

46:47

was like a town cop not a state cop

46:50

and then the state cops were the ones that

46:52

came in. Okay Busted

46:54

the scene. I mean even

46:56

though there were no charges filed against The

46:58

police officer, I assume this there would be

47:00

a black mark for him and just in

47:02

terms of his career, right? Anything

47:05

happened to him? Yeah so my

47:07

mom actually Teaches at the school like in

47:09

the town that he was a police officer

47:11

at and she said After

47:13

the incident occurred, she noticed that he was

47:15

demoted to being just a school cop No

47:20

Yeah Poor

47:22

guy Right. Yeah,

47:24

that's rough. So what happened then

47:26

to Any word

47:29

about his marriage? Nope, I

47:31

have no idea. I don't even I don't remember

47:33

his name at this point Yeah, and do we

47:35

know who the woman was that he was with

47:37

in the truck? Not entirely sure

47:39

You know people use their

47:42

imagination to guess the relationship

47:44

between them, but we had no idea So

47:46

we can't really do a where are they

47:48

now episode, right? Yeah. No sadly we can't

47:52

This is all pretty innocent fun,

47:54

but pretty hilarious Yeah, yep,

47:57

that's exactly what it is.

47:59

Yep Whatever happened with

48:01

the guy who ran his car into the

48:03

pond? I think they totaled the car and

48:05

he just got a new Acura then. You'd

48:07

think the parking lot would be arranged in

48:09

a way where you couldn't roll your car

48:12

into the pond. It is, but he chose

48:14

to park in like a different spot than

48:16

just a regular parking spot. So I think

48:18

he asked me, he had it coming. Right.

48:22

Okay. How did the member

48:24

guest turn out then? I think it

48:26

went off without a hitch. I don't think there was any

48:29

noticeable marks on the greens and I think

48:31

everybody had a blast. Was the

48:33

truck parked at the top of the green the next day? I

48:36

think the cops moved it to the parking lot then.

48:38

I see. So that was the last set of tracks

48:40

that were left by that truck? Yes,

48:43

they were. Great. Why

48:45

did you want to share this silly little

48:47

secret today? I just wanted to

48:50

lighten the mood. Like there's a lot of very

48:52

serious stories that are told on your show

48:54

that are, you know, I like listening to

48:56

them. I like hearing different things happening to

48:58

people, but see if I could lighten the

49:01

mood for one episode maybe. Well, you certainly

49:03

have and I appreciate your coming forward with

49:05

this story. Yeah, I

49:07

appreciate you for wanting to hear it. Yeah.

49:13

Ben's takeout unfolded into an unforeseen

49:15

spectacle. Yet amidst the chaos, he

49:17

emerged triumphant. And while the exact

49:19

count of new members the member guest attracted shall

49:21

forever remain a mystery. One thing

49:23

is certain, it was surely a delightful competition

49:26

shared by all who attended. And

49:28

now with the successful event behind him,

49:30

Ben can finally breathe easy, liberated from
