And a rainbow flag for you, Bethany
0:05
and Tracy and Pete. These
0:08
are awesome. Thanks Ryan. Okay
0:10
everybody, let's go. I cannot wait to get
0:12
to the Pride Parade. Wait, where's
0:14
Tessa? I'm right behind you. Ah,
0:17
wait, why are you dressed like half a
0:19
unicorn? For the Pride Parade,
0:21
obviously. Ryan, want to help
0:23
me with something? Of course. Okay,
0:26
I need you to be the other half
0:29
of this unicorn. Tessa, I
0:31
would in fact be honored to be the
0:33
majestic butt of this unicorn. Thank you very
0:36
much. Alright, y'all figure that
0:38
out and I will meet you down
0:40
there. I'm Bethany Van Delft. It's Saturday,
0:42
June 4th and this is no ordinary
0:44
episode of The 10 News. This
0:47
is the 10 News Gets Extra.

1. Happy Pride, Tenors! June
0:59
is officially Pride Month, so
1:01
today we're celebrating with lesbian,
1:03
gay, transgender and queer people
1:06
all over the world. And
1:09
we invited queer writer, creator and
1:11
activist, Lynne's Amer to the 10
1:13
News Studio. They sat down with
1:15
Ryan Willard to talk LGBTQ plus
1:17
pride. Take it away, Ryan
1:19
and Lynne's. What up, Tenors? Ryan
1:22
Willard here and I am thrilled because we have
1:24
a very special guest to talk to today. So
1:26
first off, I want to know, who
1:28
are you, where are you from and what do
1:30
you do? My name is Lynne's Amer.
1:33
I am a board and bread New
1:35
Yorker and I
1:37
am an LGBTQ plus and
1:39
social justice children's entertainer, writer
1:42
and performer. That is amazing. Okay,
1:45
I have a very serious question to follow
1:47
up with. Pancakes or waffles? Waffles. Breakfast
1:50
or dessert? Breakfast. Pizza
1:52
or nachos? This one's hard,
1:54
I think pizza probably. Would
1:56
you rather have incredibly stinky
1:58
feet or incredibly... incredibly stinky
2:00
breath. Stinky feet, definitely.
2:04
Wow, that is insane, but OK. So
2:07
you said you have a show called Queer Kid Stuff. Yeah.
2:09
Can you tell me about it? Yeah, it's
2:11
a web series. I do LGBTQ
2:13
plus and social justice education for
2:15
kids and families. So we do
2:17
short form videos on YouTube talking
2:19
about what does gaming, what is
2:21
gender, lots of things like that.
2:24
And you said LGBTQ plus. Could you
2:26
tell me what that is and why
2:28
that's changed over the years? Yeah,
2:30
LGBTQ plus is what I like to
2:32
call an umbrella term. And that means
2:35
that there are lots of different things
2:37
under the umbrella. And it stands
2:39
for a particular community.
2:42
So LGBTQ plus stands
2:44
for lesbian, gay, bisexual,
2:46
transgender, queer, and then
2:48
lots of other people who can also
2:50
fall under that community. So it's a
2:53
term that can keep growing throughout time,
2:55
right? Oh, absolutely, yes. What
2:57
kind of things do you do on
2:59
Queer Kid Stuff? Yeah, so me and
3:01
my friend Teddy, who's over
3:04
here, but you can't see him because we're on a
3:06
podcast, is my best stuffed
3:08
friend is my Teddy bear from childhood.
3:10
And Teddy and I talk about lots
3:12
of different things. We address different questions
3:14
like what does gay mean, what is
3:16
gender, what does it mean to be
3:19
non-binary, what does it mean to be
3:21
transgender, and lots of different social justice
3:23
topics. Like what does activism mean and
3:25
how to be a good activist and
3:27
how to be a good ally to
3:29
others, too. Wow, there are so many things I
3:32
want to ask you about. What is Pride Month
3:34
and what are three important things I should know
3:36
about it? Pride Month
3:38
is a really, really special month for
3:40
the LGBTQ plus community. I mean, it's
3:43
the first month of summer, which is
3:45
always very exciting. But it really is
3:47
an anniversary for the LGBTQ plus community
3:50
because it's really the beginning of the
3:52
activist movement for LGBTQ plus rights. So
3:54
at the end of the month of
3:57
June on June 29.
