I loved the old tagline: "Movies for your ears." Always original stories, well acted, not over produced, and thoughtful. High recommended.
Every story has an unexpected angle that sometimes leave you laughing, surprised or scared. You never know what's coming, and that's the beauty of it. The writing is simply outstanding and the stories are played by some exceptionally gifted actors. The sound is obviously perfect. Jonathan Mitchell has a rare gift for writing wonderful and enigmatic stories and you should really not miss out on this.
The Truth is an excellent podcast, with compelling episodes that draw you in with interesting stories, great acting, and rich sound design. With Jonathan Mitchell at the helm, it’s like a master class in audio fiction. I never miss an episode. Especially good are Phonebank Kismet, Married Alive, and Museum of You.
Jonathan Mitchell's terrific work on THE TRUTH often gets taken for granted. I'll make no bones about it. Listening to this show very closely was one of the ways I learned how to produce audio drama. There is great care to sound effects and atmosphere and, above all, a sense of realism -- even with many of the wacky BLACK MIRROR-style premises. This makes sense, given that this show does have its creative origins and sustains collaborative associations with those in improv. "Fish Girl," in particular, is a wonderful gem -- particularly the way in which this story somehow merges the grounding in reality with the outlandish nature of the concept. As someone who writes and produces a lot of wacky tales, I assure you that this is not easy.
A very good one. This podcast has that vibe, perhaps word "melancholy" would be a stretch, but let's say that it never made me smile so far. This is a compliment actually, there's specific kind of mood I am always getting from this podcast. It makes you think. It's often surprises you. I don't know how to describe it, like a bittersweet fragrance of coffee for a person who prefers tea. Perfect drama. Gorgeous.P.S. And just when I wrote this review one episode finally made me smile ) Now it has everything.
Brilliantly written, emotive stories and atmospheric production. If you love audio fiction, this is for you. One of the best podcasts around.
Great fiction podcast. Each episode is a different story.
My cup of tea
Unique, imaginative stories with a fresh perspective
All unconnected stories. Some were really cool. Most weren't.
Just started listening! It's very entertaining and very well edited! Excited to keep listening.
An excellent anthology audio drama series with some highly thought provoking episode and mini series.
Considering how much of this is improv, it has no right being as good as it is. This anthology is truly something special, not only for the quality of the writing and acting, but the experience and talent behind both. The Truth manages to entertain while also engaging the listener with questions of philosophy and ethics. They're subtle, but they're there, laced in through every tight, moving narrative.
This is a collection of fantastic short fiction. I enjoyed each story that I've heard on this podcast. They are short enough to binge or to use a bed time story.I'll double your money back if you do not enjoy this podcast.
Absolutely fantastic fiction podcast. The audio quality is top-notch, and the acting is so good. I've never heard a single bad actor on that show, and I'm quite sensitive to that. The stories are really intriguing and well-done. Check out "Can You Help Me Find My Mom?" for a completely realistic story that seems impossible until you figure out something crucial.
Incredible production and each episode so different.Only 100 episodes more to binge :-)
There are so many terrible and amateurish audio dramas out there that it is always a relief to listen to someone who knows what he is doing. Even if The Truth doesn't always hit the heights of true art, you listen to this show, having faith that it will at some point. You can trust in The Truth. "The Dark End of the Mall." "Nuclear Winter." "That's Democracy." More than most audio dramas could summon at their finest hour.
I adore anthology fiction. Dipping in and out of one-off tales with no continuing threads and getting to know characters so much but for only a brief period of time is a change if pace from serialised stories. As such I was drawn to The Truth very early into my podcast-listening days and nearly a decade and over a hundred fascinating yarns later it remains one of my favourite podcasts.Without the need to linger on one cast or plot, The Truth freely moves between genres and premises, exploring interesting characters and concepts. Horror, sci-fi, comedy and straight up drama are all to be found in the rich back catalogue. Scripts are well written and the production is excellent, with sound design amongst the best in the field of audio drama. Most episodes really strike a chord though, inevitably given the range being delivered month to month, there will be some efforts that may not click for you. However, these are few and far between for me as there is usually a hook that keeps you engaged.Pay particular attention to the episodes Moon Graffiti, That's Democracy, Your Ears Are Burning and Murder at Cakery Bakery as they are excellent in such different ways.
Stunningly produced, mixed, and edited, The Truth is the benchmark of the short-story audio drama field
Great writing and acting. Nice music and FX. Films for your ears! Really love every episode, no matter the genre. Best short story podcast. Love it!
