Heather Shores, Executive Director of the Chieftains Museum/Major Ridge Home in Rome, Georgia joins Robert to discuss the truth about the Indian Removal Act of 1830 and to clarify the culture and the humanity of the amazing Cherokee Nation at that time. We dig into the history of these incredibly smart, indigenous people who no matter how civilized and learned they became, were still forced from their lands (along with every single tribe) after multiple treaties with the United States government were rendered null time and time again. Robert also points to connections from the novel by Dee Brown, Creek Mary's Blood, a historical fiction novel, but one holding many many truths about the Native American experiences and we examine how the Native American women's roles were far more progressive than even today. Lastly the influence of the Civil Rights Movement is looked at in context with what the Native Americans did at that time as well.
