Introducing Watching from Abroad

Welcome to Watching From Abroad, the new podcast where Americans living overseas discuss American current events, politics, and culture as seen from our unique vantage points. 

Right now Americans living all over the world are on lockdown or in quarantine in their adopted countries due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s safe to say many of us have never felt quite so far away from our friends and family back in the US. In my first episode, I’ll talk to Americans living in a few different countries to hear what life is like for them now. I’ll get their insights on what it’s like to watch the American response to this pandemic from abroad and how it compares to the responses in the countries they’re living in.

In later episodes we’ll talk Trump and the 2020 election, the role of American media and culture in the rest of the world, how our perceptions of American culture have changed since moving abroad, and much more. 

Are you interested to hear how a socialized healthcare system like Denmark’s really compares to the US system, from people who have experienced both? We’re going to talk about that. 

Ever wonder what you would miss about American culture, and what you really wouldn’t, if you moved abroad? We’ll talk about that too. I think the answers might surprise you.

I’ve been living out of the US for nearly 8 years, the first 6 in Denmark, and the last 2 in Sweden. In that time I’ve connected with tons of American immigrants and expats, both in person and online, and in doing so I’ve learned that they’re awesome people. So I’m really excited to have some great conversations, do some myth busting, and give folks back in the US a glimpse at what it’s like to be watching America from abroad.
