Myth or Misogyny?

Oftentimes, I wonder how it would have been if I was born a boy. Things would have been drastically different. Everyday, Every woman and girl is put down and stomped on just on the basis of a mere name card of gender. Yes, according to religious scriptures and beliefs, women were created for a reason: to reproduce and serve. But, why? Why is it still like that? In the age of atheists and non-believers, is that the belief you want to hold onto even if you don’t believe in God? In the creation account of Genesis 1, God’s first word on the subject of men and women is that they were equally created in the image of God (v. 27). Neither received more of the image of God than the other. So the Bible begins with the equality of the genders. As persons, as spiritual beings standing before God, men and women are absolutely equal. So then why was it perceived in the most utter and arrogant manner? Is women still just a tool to care and reproduce?

Life is equal, there is nothing the men get more than women. You must have heard this a million times, ‘That’s a man’s job’ or ‘You’re not meant to do it’ or ‘You can’t do it.’ When the people surrounding you, people you looked up to, people you loved say such hurtful and saddening things, It hurts. It hurts as if your world, the world you are dreaming and soaring towards is shattered into a million pieces. When you see people flying through the sky, you feel that tiny piece of you wanting to do the same. You would feel that longing to reach great heights, the aspiration to follow in the footsteps of your dreams. You see the lives of people who went through such torture and pain to lead their lives to something they dreamt of. The pain and pang you receive is what will lead you to higher steps.

Nonetheless, when your ears hear such harsh and hard words, just think about how dated that person’s thinking is. Just know, that person will never understand, appreciate or realize the things you could do. Don’t listen. Take it into one ear, leave it out the other. You will one day, live the life you’ve always dreamt of, and now that’s certain. Don’t take into account the thoughts and opinions of others that are going to be put down. You will find at least one person who loves you, cares for you and wants to see you reach great heights. Until then, stay put, stay strong, stay safe and stay at home.
