The Spirit tells us to test ourselves to see if we are in faith. But given the level of delusion in which the people of God tend to dwell (drunk or hungover from the Harlot’s wine), how do we know if we have passed the test?
If we are in any way living for God and not by God (Jesus living His life in-and-through ours), then we are still captive in the Harlot’s house and are not living by the grace of God. We have not fled. The ultimate proof is agape love, comprised of joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
Commands 2-5 about paying back the Harlot after one has fled her control is tied to the prophecies of Babylon which came to fruition and will come to fruition to spiritual Babylon. Our vengeance on Babylon is severe. We are to pay her back as she has paid, give back to her double and double according to her deeds, in the cup she has mixed, mix twice as much for her, and to an excessive degree, give her torment and mourning.
