RATING
Very enjoyable voice acting, soundscaping, etc. But the plot goes almost nowhere, and the places it does go it goes very slowly. Takes them an entire season just to get to the point of considering getting to the good stuff, and after that I skipped around to see if anything ever happens (a little bit does, eventually, but not much. They finally go in the *second* spooky hole in the ground, and it's more spooky!! with bones!! Not that interesting.). It feels very much like a story where they didn't have any idea what the ending would be when they started, they just took a premise, threw in spooky elements when they thought of them, and tried to run with it.The horror elements they do have don't feel thought-out. The spooky elements don't tie together effectively, and some aren't tied together at all, at least not in the parts I had the patience to skip around to.Oh, and there's a decent amount of idiot-ball holding. When the plot demands people be idiots or else they'd start dealing with things a bit more efficiently and sooner, but we gotta drag it out, that really kills it for me.And surely the *german* character has heard of better board games than Chutes and Ladders? Quite easily the most immersion-breaking moment right there. Maybe the writer just doesn't know good board games exist?
"Swing" honestly had me crying at the end, and "The Grove" was wonderfully creepy. This episode's a good one.
This episode felt like it didn't really know where it was going, and boy does it do that for a long time. I finished it, but I still find myself wondering 'wait, what was the point of everything that just happened?'
