In this episode I have the privilege of speaking with three of the crew members currently sailing around the world aboard one of the most iconic sail boats there is - Maiden.  This boat and her all female crew showed the world back in 1989 that females were not only capable of undertaking such an awesome feat but were a force to be reckoned with.  Skipper Tracy Edwards led her all female team around the world in the Whitbread Race, a true test of grit, determination, skill and seamanship and they sailed home with a second in class.  Doubters transformed to believers and Tracy and her team paved the way for many of the highly accomplished female professional sailors racing today.  If you haven't yet seen it, check out the movie Maiden and be prepared to be amazed by this story.

The Maiden project now has a new lease of life sailing around the world as The Maiden Factor again with an all female crew on a mission to inspire female sailors and through the work of the Maiden Factor Foundation, their goal is to "Empower/teach/mentor girls and/or promote, facilitate, lobby for or provide solutions which enable the education of girls not currently afforded that basic human right".

The crew tell me all about life on board, how they have touched the lives of young female sailors and what they in turn have learned from this experience.  They share details of the route sailed so far and what lies ahead and you cannot help but feel the gratitude of each crew member to be a part of such an important project that stands to empower young females through education.
