My name is Derrick Javan Hoard. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist and this podcast is about having difficult conversations on difficult topics. Sometimes, even the people themselves are considered by some to be "difficult". I want to help people learn how to understand another person. Even if that person has views and ideas that you don't agree with. So we will talk with "racists", "anti-vaxxers", and "conspiracy theorists" as well as "mothers", "fathers", "sons" and "daughters". They are the same people and we forget that. I hope that my conversations will help heal rifts in families, bridge gaps in communities, and ultimately repair relationships destroyed because we confuse the label with the person we are labeling.
