This week on Discover the Hustle Podcast we talk aboutlearning from your mistakes. We talked about some personal mistakes we’ve maderecently in our business. One notable story was this; we were looking to adesign/manufacturing company for Golf Shots. They told us that they couldfinish up the project over the next month or so and that we could pay half upfront and half at the end. This is a popular manufacturing company and wasrecommend to us by someone we trusted, so we said yes. So roughly 3-4 monthshad gone by with very little communication on their end, and admittedly weshould have followed up more often, but I digress. We ended up spending $5,000for a poorly created design. It was a hard lesson, because at this point thiswas essentially all of the money that we had personally invested in thecompany. It really set us back, but we knew we couldn’t just sit on our hands. So what did we do? Well we started searching for someone who could help usfinish the design. We went to the guys in Milwaukee who were already doing someprototype printing for us and they agreed to help finish the design. So here weare just a month and a half later, with a nearly finished design and someproduct creation actually happening.

So what can you pull from our story? You can find helpsometimes right underneath your nose. Sometimes you just have to take a stepback and start asking for help. Find someone in your industry, or someone whohas gone through what you are going through and ask for help. It’s okay to dothat. Most of the time people will be more than happy to help, because theyknew what it was like to be in that situation. We also preluded to a futureepisode about outsourcing and how valuable that can be. We’ll save that piece forthat episode! But going along with that, you don’t have to and shouldn’t try todo everything by yourself. It makes it very difficult to manage all the thingsyou have going on. Find people who compliment your strengths and bring themaboard. Again, people genuinely like to be a part of something bigger thanthemselves and will more than likely be willing to help you out! Another keything to note that we heard from Tim Ferriss is this; If it’s not a “Hell Yes”it should be a “Hell No.” This will come in handy as you progress as a personin any walk of life. We should not be confined to always saying yes, because wefeel inclined to do things. On top of that, you will always give things abetter effort if you actually want to do them, which means pick s*** youactually like doing! And to finish this off, don’t spread yourself too thin.Pick those things you genuinely want to do and rock them. It’s about depth of execution, not how many things you can do mediocrely. If you can start to see yourmistakes as learning opportunities you’re well on your way in this journey tobecome a better you and discover your hustle.
