In this episode, I tackle the dark side of human nature, as part 3 of my 4-part series on “Purpose”.

To recap:  Part 1 (Episode 6) was about getting in touch with vulnerability, and sharing that with others so as to begin to enable yourself to experience genuine, reciprocal love.

Part 2 (Episode 7) was about love, about feeling deeply your wonderful, sometimes silly, beautiful connection to other people, and how, deep down inside we all are fundamentally the same, and certainly deserving of love.

Part 3, this episode, is about how the dark side of human nature is really, really dark.  If we continue our business-as-usual approach to life, we are setting ourselves up for a truly nightmarish future.

In Part 4 (Episode 9, due out next week), we’ll be explicitly targeting these themes and showing how vulnerability, love, and hate, could all work together to truly help people find purpose in a healthy way.  And we might even discuss how all this relates to the Big Bad Meaning Question, and finally slay that dragon, once and for all.

Peace.

Tearing Down Walls: Personal Thoughts from Dan Dolderman

Do you yearn to feel more authentic, more connected to people, and simply more free? Do you wish you were living like the shopping bag and Instagram sayings tell you to? Do you wish that, somehow, you could "let go" and live from the heart? Do you feel, far too often, like you're "not enough", and wish you could FINALLY be happy with yourself, just as you are? Do you worry about the state of the world, and fear that humanity is going to spiral out of control? So, let's rise. Let's rise, and grow into our loving, strong, courageous, warrior selves. Let's shake off our complacency and fears and embrace THIS LIFE. Let's create lives of joy and connection, spiritual sincerity, playfulness, and depth. Let's reinvent our communities and live again like it's "the good ol' days" when people still reached out and helped each other. Let's go deep and heal from the traumas we've carried around for so many years. Let's talk about joy. Personal growth. Meaning. Love. Strong family bonds. Creative flourishing. And good times. That's what this podcast is all about, the journey to better selves, and a better world. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Dr. Dan Dolderman is a Psychologist, Father, Dungeon Master, Complex Systems junkie and lover of the great outdoors. For many years, he has studied and worked at the intersection of personal growth, wellness, ecological issues and the need for urgent societal transformation. It is often difficult to communicate the linkages between our own individual concerns about life, and our societal and global challenges. But it's super-important to do so, because becoming our "best selves", living our "best lives", and contributing to a "better world" are inseparable challenges, and the journey towards any one of them is the journey towards all. So, come back every week for a new episode! We'll be covering trauma and healing, psychology, mental illness and social support, parenting, climate change and activism, meditation and spirituality, and both cutting edge and age-old techniques and practices for being the kind of person you want to be, living the kind of life you want to live, and helping to create the kind of abundant, beautiful world you want to live in. Oh. And let's laugh about all this (at least sometimes!). Because if you can't laugh, then really, what's the point?
